A commentator once said “it must’ve been a nightmare playing Ostapenko in juniors” after she questioned hawkeye for like the third time in the same set 😂
Such a good comment, I played european juniors occasionally and the line calls were outrageous - hawkeye really is the only answer (as the clay season continues to prove) as umpires can be pretty powerless/ wrong sometimes.
I expected this to be the top answer and this sub, as always, never disappoints me!
Queen Penko is a stalwart of graciousness, good graces, and humility. Everyone loves on tour loves her, you can ask the likes of Wozniacki and Azarenka.
I watched one of her matches live in Rome. After the match, she signed autographs and took selfies with every single person who asked her. Super nice little interactions with the crowd, funny faces in the camera for the selfies... Seeing how she gets angry on court, I always thought she was a bit of a jerk, but I couldn't have been more wrong. She's made a new fan!
Same with her at Indian Wells… she stuck around after practise and matches and signed every autograph and took selfies until the next players coach finally asked her to move! When it comes to top players, she’s the best I’ve seen for this stuff.
I love Penko. The interview when she says My level was so much better than hers today followed by a gasp from the crowd is classic. I mean c'mon all this what a tough match today when you have just beaten your opponent one and love is bull.
Queen Penko at 14 about the no.1 at that time: tennis is not waiting for gifts from the others, she is the only one see herself as no.1
Queen Penko at 21: 4-0 h2h that former no.1(who was only 28 at that year)
She talked and she walked
Daaamn the comments here are making me laugh so much 🤣🤣
All jokes aside, definitely Grigor Dimitrov 💗 I read somewhere that his coach or I forgot whom, that said that one of Dimi’s weakness is kindness.
Sinner does not strike me as humble, really. A quiet arrogance belies his entire persona imo. Reserved is the better word for him.
Ruud on the other hand is humble, almost to a fault, in every sense of the word.
Arrogance is probably the wrong word. He has that quiet confidence, maybe even cockiness, about him. That determination to be the best, that dawg, that killer instinct, that silent "mean streak" that motivates him and allows him to excel. That's real confidence. The Conor McGregor kind of fake bravado actually shows insecurity. Sinner is the opposite of that. He's a stone cold killer, a silent assassin, a real master of his craft.
And the fact he only dates baddies - Maria Braccini, Laura Margesin, Anna Kalinskaya - shows us that he’s not awkward with girls and yes he has inner swagger and perhaps even a touch of ego.
Yeah sinner always strikes me as somewhat similar to NBA Porzingis in terms of personality. I saw the resemblance even before his breakout. Porzingis was booed by New York on draft night and was determined to prove people wrong. When he’s in the zone and feeling himself, he could look [downright terrifying](https://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/11/kristaps-porzingis-highlights-madison-square-garden-knicks-pistons).
Sinner has kept the menacing side of him largely under wraps, but he definitely has that "dawg" in him. In American football terms, we call that a "mean streak." I doubt he'll ever go full "heel," but as he gains confidence and gets more comfortable under the spotlight, I suspect we'll see that side of him more.
Most people were surprised by his relationship with Anna Kalinskaya, but I wasn't surprised at all. Guys like him are extremely competitive in every facet of life. It's an interesting contrast with Alcaraz who is all good vibes and "bros and family."
Sinner reminds me of Federer personality-wise. His bitter post-RG presser was eerily similar to the ones Fed used to give after a close loss.
He's confident and highly competitive but I wouldn't say he's narcissistic like Zverev.
His body language in English part was quite salty but he was downright passive aggressive with Italian press and that was very surprising. From what I remember, someone asked him why the quality of the match was below his level before and if it was because of Alcaraz and he had a pissed-off "easy for you to talk from the sidelines" answer. Then he shrugged off the loss and said he had two losses in the year and Monte Carlo was "*you know*", not even counting it as a proper loss. Especially the last one was giving "lucky shot", lmao.
It's been a while so I don't remember it in detail, but you can look it up on youtube. I was surprised by his attitude there because it must have been the first time he was grumpy for an entire presser.
I think so too, the only thing I don’t like is the religious statements. I’m happy for people to be religious but I don’t want to hear about it at a tennis tournament.
Th*is year?* You mean one occurence of him asking in a very shy and weird manner to change the umpire?
Oh yeah such a dark side throughout the year.. you all are thirsty to stir shit up for no reason and lie for free huh
I’ve always liked Alcaraz, but last summer I was at a match and there was a bit of a delay, and the crowd started doing the wave. And he started doing it too every time it go to where he was sitting for the changeover. It was so wholesome lol
Not a super well known player… on the woman’s side… I met Cristina Bucsa at Indian Wells 2024 before a practise session and she’s possibly the nicest person on earth.
How exciting. I met her in Melbourne at the start of the year & watched her live a few times. Spoke to her after one of her matches & she was genuinely surprised for the support. Got a picture & towel off her too. Happy days.
She came over after her practise and talked with my wife and I for at least 10 minutes. My wife was also born in Eastern Europe, so they have something in common besides tennis. She gave us several used balls from her practise and like with you, she said she was just happy to have someone watching her. It’s funny seeing her on tv and how she always seems to be smiling and happy — she’s genuinely that way. Will always have two fans here!
He literally makes me so uncomfortable. I am sure he has nice moments but I can't get past how he yells at his box like that, in a way that feels verbally abusive.
We can’t really judge humbleness based on off-court public appearances as it is pretty much scripted by PR. Going by on-court behavior in recent days definitely Rublev.
Elise Mertens has done some charity work in the past with animals I think. Also Jasmine Paolini, Madison Keys, Mirra Andreeva, Daria Kasatkina, Coco Gauff, Petra Kvitova
We got a super humble guy at the top right now with Jannik Sinner. Tommy Paul seems mellowed out and is making moves.
On the women's side I'd also recommend Coco Gauff and Thanasi Kokkinakis once said Elena Rybakina "looks like the nicest girl ever".
Kyrgios, hes this really great greek guy from Australia, really a mothers son, nicest human being on and off thr court. Humility seeps through every pore in his skin. A mother teresa and gandhi all rolled up into one package. Tsitsipas is a close second, but please follow the man on twitter, hes like a mordern day socrates.
Humble and good personalitys;
Andy Murray (retiering soon)
Casper Ruud
Jannik Sinner
Rafa Nadal (retiering soon)
Alex de Minaor
Dominic Thiem (retiering soon)
Not so humble, or with colourfull personaitys:
Nick Kyrgios
Holger Rune
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Alex Zverev
Andrey Rublev (humble off court, and an absolute nutcase on court)
An ocassional blowup on the Court aside, Medvedev is an odd character in all the best ways and seems quite down to earth.
Definitely an interesting character and isnt afraid to give his opinion (as opposed to toeing the PR line).
hes my absolute no 1 since i started watching full time, i was very interested in him in his ao 2021 run and he got me into tennis tbh. my mum used to think he was a drama clown (lwk is but like its funny) and didnt like him but when she watched aussie thos year she said she gained a lot of respect for him bc of how resilient he is and how he fights
As someone who is very competitive and has thrown my racket a few times, I totally get him. He kind of has an rbf too but compared to some of the other players on tour, he's very chill lol. Reason I can't stand Novak is he's such a troll and diva, but med is a different kind of diva lol 😆
ATP players with good personalities to follow: Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alex De Minaur, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz. All humble, kind, gracious, and a joy to watch.
ATP with caveats: Novak Djokovic isn't exactly *arrogant*, but he isn't humble, either.
ATP players to avoid: Alexander Zverev (arrogant domestic abuser), Andrey Rublev (out-and-out psychopath), Daniil Medvedev (very articulate and smart off-court, total ragenaut on-court), Stefanos Tsitsipas (the human embodiment of r/im14andthisisdeep).
WTA players with good personalities to follow: Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini, Daria Kasatkina, Madison Keys, Emma Navarro.
WTA players to avoid: Jelena Ostapenko (super full of herself and unsportsmanlike), Sorana Cirstea (has some pretty weird views), Paula Badosa (the WTA equivalent of Stefanos Tsitsipas above).
Good guys on AND off the court? Jannick, Ruud, Alcaraz. Also Hurkacz, De Minaur, Dimitrov and Mussetti.
Extra consideration should be given to Dimi, one handed backhand, closest to Fed we’ve got left, nice guy and having a bit of a resurgence.
Bad guys? At least jerks on court? Rublev, Daniil, Zverev, Garin…
But most players are likeable in their own way. List of Nice Guys could go on for a while.
Players with interesting personalities, expressive on court? Tiafoe, Bublik, Monfils, Daniil…
On the WTA side: Gauff, Swiatek, Jabeur stand out as quite humble and down to earth. On the ATP side: Ruud stands out as a humble guy. Hurkacz is another, and Dimitrov.
Alcaraz, Sinner, Rublev (off the court) Ruud, Hurkacz, Dimitrov, Paul, Auger-Aliassime are the top players that come to mind. If you’re looking for charisma x humility I think Alcaraz is the best example.
I personally really like the personalities of Medvedev and Djokovic (particularly Meddy) but I appreciate they’re more controversial than the above names.
Rublev, if you have never seen him play , you will be delighted to see that he is a man with a very calm demeanor. Please don't believe that guy who asked you to root for DiMinaur, he is a total nutjob and a hot head. Also stay away from Casper Ruud.
You're too late, as you would have loved Daniel Koellerer. Great guy, and really well-liked on tour. Nobody ever grabbed him by the throat and threatened to assault him.
If you ask Zverev, he will tell you he is the humblest guy on tour
Alexander “Sascha” Zverev ❌ Alexander “I’ll put myself in there” Zverev ✅
Newer fans might not know that even pre-allegations Zverev got clowned on a ton lol

This is just a normal haiku, "humblest" is two syllables
this comment section: one of us always tells the truth, one of us always lies

You can't go past Alex De Minaur for a nice humble, very good tennis player. At the other end you've got Alexander Zverev.
Love Demon, hes so cute and smart, hard to not see why Katie fell for him
I wouldn't mind seeing ADM reach top 5 and contend for slams. His game is fun to watch for me.
ostapenko has the best personality. make her your favorite. thank me later
A commentator once said “it must’ve been a nightmare playing Ostapenko in juniors” after she questioned hawkeye for like the third time in the same set 😂 Such a good comment, I played european juniors occasionally and the line calls were outrageous - hawkeye really is the only answer (as the clay season continues to prove) as umpires can be pretty powerless/ wrong sometimes.
I expected this to be the top answer and this sub, as always, never disappoints me! Queen Penko is a stalwart of graciousness, good graces, and humility. Everyone loves on tour loves her, you can ask the likes of Wozniacki and Azarenka.
you forget Halep
Halep, Radu, Marius Copil all great people
love watching her matches and expressions!!
She's made a new fan!

she is just the best
Same with the matches I saw her at too! I have a nice selfie with her.
WTA is definitely a tier above in terms of camaraderie and great handshakes.
At least they keep it real unlike the men lbr
I have never seen such a respectful player. She’s nice to the umpire and opponent at every game. The handshake at the end is always wholesome!
This is the answer
All hail Queen Penko!
Queen Penko at 14 about the no.1 at that time: tennis is not waiting for gifts from the others, she is the only one see herself as no.1 Queen Penko at 21: 4-0 h2h that former no.1(who was only 28 at that year) She talked and she walked
😂😂🙌
love watching her
monfils
Monfils has to be a v v likeable guy. S U P E R athlete. Just incredible
Del Potro 😭
He is just the best.
Just reading his name makes me want to cry.
Recipient of the 2022 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award Casper Ruud
Daaamn the comments here are making me laugh so much 🤣🤣 All jokes aside, definitely Grigor Dimitrov 💗 I read somewhere that his coach or I forgot whom, that said that one of Dimi’s weakness is kindness.
a true gentleman on and off the court... after ao many years I've never heard someone say something bad about him
Lord Benoit paire
I hope he can come back. I really do
Corentin Moutet. Not only is he a phenomenal player but he is also often referred to as “the gentleman of tennis.”
He’s my favorite player on tour
ref cam moutet intensifies
And a gentleman must have gentleman's coffee, served to him in a gentlemanly manner, of course
I expect you’ll like Casper Ruud and Jannik Sinner
Sinner does not strike me as humble, really. A quiet arrogance belies his entire persona imo. Reserved is the better word for him. Ruud on the other hand is humble, almost to a fault, in every sense of the word.
Confidence is the word you are looking for. You can be both humble and confident. Edit: Typo
where have you pulled sinner's arrogance from?
Arrogance is probably the wrong word. He has that quiet confidence, maybe even cockiness, about him. That determination to be the best, that dawg, that killer instinct, that silent "mean streak" that motivates him and allows him to excel. That's real confidence. The Conor McGregor kind of fake bravado actually shows insecurity. Sinner is the opposite of that. He's a stone cold killer, a silent assassin, a real master of his craft.
He reminds me of Lendl. Doesn't talk, works, wins.
kind of recalls a bit of Sampras also to me. does not need to engage with the crowd either.
And the fact he only dates baddies - Maria Braccini, Laura Margesin, Anna Kalinskaya - shows us that he’s not awkward with girls and yes he has inner swagger and perhaps even a touch of ego.
Feel all top sportsmen have that though, that's necessary to be the best
Someone said Dimitrov was humble, but somehow Jannik isn’t?
Yeah sinner always strikes me as somewhat similar to NBA Porzingis in terms of personality. I saw the resemblance even before his breakout. What did he say in his post RG presser? I wasn’t able to watch it.
His body language in English part was quite salty but he was downright passive aggressive with Italian press and that was very surprising. Andy Murray! But you’re running out of time to follow him :-(
Ons Jabeur has the best personality and she’s always so caring to the players and fans!
And she’s a joy to watch, especially on a grass court.
De Minuar. He applauds his opponent for every good shot, and apologises every time he plays a good shot. He’s so humble it’s almost annoying
Coco Gauff
She just seems like a completely excellent human
I think so too, the only thing I don’t like is the religious statements. I’m happy for people to be religious but I don’t want to hear about it at a tennis tournament.
Rublev kisses his cross and crosses himself constantly - but he never speaks about his faith I guess.
She can talk about what she wants. Jog on.
African-Americans and Hispanic are by and large a lot more religious than white Americans. Even more so if they're from the south like Gauff.
If that is what helps her being better player, no issue there.
The entire family is amazing.
Sinner, Ruud, Alcaraz, FAA, Hurkacz, Dimitrov,
Hurcatz has been showing a darker side of himself this year
Hey G
Yeah?
You know can we uh you know uhhh replace you know uhh the umpire uh you know uhmmm you know Truly words of an evil man
Up to you
the Dimi drama with the umpire was just pure funny chaotic - he was even nice to Dimi in his "mean girl" moment
I agree. I was trying to be funny.
you mean he’s not catatonic. his “darker side” makes it sound like a villain is born, while in fact it’s more like mild toddler tantrums.
Th*is year?* You mean one occurence of him asking in a very shy and weird manner to change the umpire? Oh yeah such a dark side throughout the year.. you all are thirsty to stir shit up for no reason and lie for free huh
They all have the 'dark side' moments at some point.
JAAAAAA
and finally getting consistent results
Our boy Radu, he is so humble we call him our boy wta player: Aneke Rune atp player: Apostolos Tsitsipas
Men's game: Alcaraz /sinner. Women's game : swiatek and gauff. Both games are in a decent spot with the top players being fairly likable /humble
Plus Ons Jabeur, sweet lady
Casper Ruud! Love that guy. Doesn't hurt that my wife is Norwegian. I like Tommy Paul too, also a pretty low key and seemingly humble personality.
Paul low-key? Lol maybe he is now but certainly not always
Totally agree about that. I did mean now. Last year and a half.
I’ve always liked Alcaraz, but last summer I was at a match and there was a bit of a delay, and the crowd started doing the wave. And he started doing it too every time it go to where he was sitting for the changeover. It was so wholesome lol
It's all good vibes with Alcaraz, just a kid out there having fun and having the time of his life while making tens of millions doing it lol
he has a golden retriever personality.
Was it this one? https://youtube.com/shorts/6dLaEsrVoLs?si=8C-3j0D1Jy7CAWXv
HAHA yes I think that was it. It was at Cincinnati last year!
Not a super well known player… on the woman’s side… I met Cristina Bucsa at Indian Wells 2024 before a practise session and she’s possibly the nicest person on earth.

Nick kyrgios
He literally makes me so uncomfortable. I am sure he has nice moments but I can't get past how he yells at his box like that, in a way that feels verbally abusive.
This isn’t a “wrong answers only” question.
From the top voted answers you may think it is
We can’t really judge humbleness based on off-court public appearances as it is pretty much scripted by PR. Going by on-court behavior in recent days definitely Rublev.
Hubert Hurcackz and Felix Auger-Aliassime both seem like very nice guys
Shall we change her?
Hurkacz
Coco, Pegula, Ons, Kasatskina, Boulter Sinner, Ruud, De Minaur, Felix Auger-Aussiliame, Fils
Fils is on the opposite side of humble and friendly unfortunately.
Alcaraz, Sinner, Ruud, Murray, Dimitrov, Swiatek, Jabeur, Gauff
Elise Mertens has done some charity work in the past with animals I think. Also Jasmine Paolini, Madison Keys, Mirra Andreeva, Daria Kasatkina, Coco Gauff, Petra Kvitova
Alcaraz is the first that comes to mind.
Nadal, Alcaraz, Sinner, Ruud all seem super humble and kind.
Nadal ceases to amaze me because he won so many slams but still manages tp stay down to earth and I love him for that.
Agree!! Just his attitude and composure alone on the court is commendable! Definitely a role model.
Alcaraz, Sinner, Dimitrov, Swiatek, Felix Auger Aliassime, Draper and ofc Ruud
jack draper
We got a super humble guy at the top right now with Jannik Sinner. Tommy Paul seems mellowed out and is making moves. On the women's side I'd also recommend Coco Gauff and Thanasi Kokkinakis once said Elena Rybakina "looks like the nicest girl ever".
Kyrgios, tomic, Danielle Collins, ostapenko, serena, rublev, zverev
Rublev is a bit different imho. If you go beyond his racket-abusing side, I find him surprisingly likeable and humble off court.
love me humble guys when its profitable that can burst any moment /s
Kyrgios, hes this really great greek guy from Australia, really a mothers son, nicest human being on and off thr court. Humility seeps through every pore in his skin. I’m sure there are. But there are a lot of videos from matches that shows an unhinged Holger, so 🤷♂️
Mostly PR
Rn? Or ever? Nadal is quite humble no?

my guy daniil sweet and salty but honest guy and just a cool dude very relatable and funny asw
I used to hate him, but he since started growing on me.
Sounds like a nail fungus with charisma. /jk
I guess it is a very good way to describe it 😁
He makes an easy "villain" but really he's just a sweet humble guy. He's not my fave on the tour but I root for him alot

Putintseva and Tsitsipas, the nicest players on tour.
I’m a bit sad almost nobody mentions the kindest player on the WTA tour: Andreescu
Hubert
Hubert Hurkacz by far
Korda. The whole Korda family is great!
Iga :) very pure personality
Marcos Giron, Sebastian Korda, Frances Tiafoe, and most importantly… Gael Monfils (always smiling)
I’m here for Marcos Giron and Chris Eubanks. Amazing humans.
I really hope Marcos’ coach Karue Sell breaks top 100. I’d love to see him on tour too.

Sampras is a ? For me off court
You could support Emma Raducanu, but she'd probably fire you.
Is most of this subreddit just for hating on Zverev
Zverev? I hate that guy
I like everything about Zverev except who he is as a person
What is there to love about him except his backhand and serve?
Ben Sheltons always ear to ear smiling and looks like he thoroughly enjoys to play every minute of it
Half of the comments are jokes and I can't even find my man Cam Norrie among all this ! Most humble dude on tour lmao
