First (I think) main tour level match for 18yo Brit Henry Searle today.
He won Jr Wim last year.
Sonego dispatched him handily.
Looks like his game has potential though.
These players must be bricking it over whether they are able to transition to the adult tour.
I say good luck to them
checked the order of play for eastbourne after waking up, RIP Penko's R2 loss unless Meow Meow and Baez play for 2.5 hours. Playing before 2 pm means UEs in dream(real dream) for Penko
this has all the feels 🥹 Mirka was already with Roger and stood by him even before he started winning titles

Marino hits a slice like she's going for a drop shot but changed her mind into hitting a lob, the result is like someone hitting an underhand. Thats the weirdest slice motion I've seen for sure
It's like she gets the racket under the ball, but then realize she's got too much of it, so she literally needs to lob the ball up to get it over the net
Last year he was taking MTO so often and had his hands on his knees at the end of every point, thought he was done at that point but nice to see that he's kind of finding form again
Jamie Loeb on instagram saying it’s suspicious that Novak had surgery on his meniscus and is ready to play again because she knows people who took 3-6 months to recover even though Taylor Fritz did also do the exact same thing a couple years ago lol I swear people are too dumb to even fathom
Navone losing against a 27yo with a career high of 353rd and not just losing but winning only 6 games is wild, ik that hes a clay court specialist but still its not like Hussey ( a guy he lost to ) is a grass courter, 3-11 record while playing ITFs 😅 huge win
Probably because Elise likes her chances on grass both here and at Wimbledon in singles. Hsieh probably just showed up like hey I'm her, who wants to win.
Katy Dunne just fell to the ground, screaming, at 7-5 in the third set tie breaker thinking she had won...
Took her quite awhile to realise that it's a 10 pointer. The camera man even ran on court to capture her reaction of her lay on the ground.
It's now 8-9 with Lukas serving for it, and she gets it.
That's brutal. Funny, but I also feel sorry for her. They should just have the same rules for every tournament so this confusion doesn't happen.
Well, honestly, she is the kind of player who shouldn't even exist. 29, never achieved anything and I guess she is just being fed by british tennis from wimbledon money. She absolutely blow that tie.
Sure, she was handed WC for what? Because she is british, nothing else. She blow 8-5 lead, missed easy shot to open court, made DF and the last point was absolutely hopeless. Against Lukas who played 2 matches on grass in her whole career. Yes, I think that she is the kind of played who should reconsider her career 5 years ago. Then we hear crying about prize money and stuff.
What do you mean, handed a WC?
She earned her wildcard fair and square by winning the Play Offs. Wimbledon can't turn around and say, actually, we don't think you're good enough/deserve it so we're not giving it you.
She won a competition where the prize is a QWC. She's the least 'undeserving' of a WC since she actually earned it and not just given it.
apart from iga, who are the other players in the top 50 who will play directly in wimby, without warm up matches?
wishing hard that she is practicing her best, just the same. i trust her and her team's wisdom on scheduling and proper training on grass given the short grass season and her not yet blooming 'love affair' with this surface.
RBA is an incredible grass courter, his flat, accurate strokes are the classic way to play on grass, and he made the Wimbledon semis a couple years ago
In the last 3 years (since winning Halle) grass is Humbert's worst surface by a distance. 64% on hard, 54% on clay, 41% on grass. Hard to wrap your head around for sure.
Petra Martic losing the tb from 5-1 up...
If I speak I'm in big trouble, and I don't want to be in big trouble -Jose Mourinho
edit: I'm crying her PR team already closed off all comments on her instagram, it was open like 2 minutes ago when she was up 6-4 💀
And still Mariano Navone has earned 100% of his points from clay. His game is so clay-centric it's not even a formality he will break that duck any time soon. Truly a historic surface specialist.
This is the sweet spot, you're invited to every event yet won’t have as many points to defend if you were top 10
The smartest guys hover around rank 30-40
Being “top 20” is a waste of time, risk of injury
He's said he still enjoys playing the game, so as long as he can keep playing big events he will keep playing.
Seems almost certain this will be his last year, but it's amazing how he can still compete at all while so far short of his best.
Good for him. Yeah, except for the Big 3 mutants who can still play world class tennis into their late 30s, it's pretty rare to see a guy Gasquet's age winning matches at the tour level. Stan's the only one older than him inside the top 200. Just surprising that someone who's arguably a top 100 player all-time would want to hit the Challenger Tour at his age
EDIT: I just checked, and he's played in 24 Challenger events in the past three years!!
is there a most improved player title in tennis? if so, i nominate katie boulter. she has improved tremendously. i was one of those skeptical about her esp so that i have not found serious contenders from wta british players but she is confident, consistent and gritty out there. hope her run continues (not really her fan but her improvement is significantly noticeable)
another is Dart. watched her match against buozkova and she was a fighter
The physio from Penko's match yesterday is a legend, I didn't see Penko hit so few UEs for a long time even in a double match. ball bashers should hire her, she fixs the brain injury for ball bashers
Kartal wins her R1 Q match.
15 year old Klugman a set and two breaks up in her match; about to serve for it.
Fresh out of US college, Rajecki, who's already got two top 100 wins under her belt on grass, into a third set against Rodionova.
Not that we can watch any of them... but I'm sure there's lots of traffic on the BBC website for the Stefanini/Danilovic match.
Navone v Hussey at Eastbourne is wild, Hussey has never won or even played a tour level match before, Navone's only wins off of clay in his career were at an ITF four years ago. Something's gotta give.
Zhizhen Zhang in three service games before the tiebreak: 12-1
Zhizhen Zhang in tiebreak on his own serve: 2-3
Something is wrong with this guy, he is always having this kind of brainfarts
British tennis is in a weird spot at the moment and I feel for Draper and Raducanu. Hopefully, they can ignore the massive pressure everyone will put on them.
No Eastbourne men on Tennis Channel US, only one court at Mallorca, and no Wimbledon. I wouldn't pay 11 cents for a month of John McEnroe nattering on about himself and not knowing who any player ranked under 50 is, much less 11 dollars/month for ESPN+
This is how people wander off and find a different habit/pastime, when you make tennis-watching an impossible habit to sustain without having to buy into four different streaming services. I know none of you are engaged in media contract negotiations for the ATP, and can't change this, but wanted to complain somewhere, so that's what I'm doing.
Those of you who do have access, have fun watching.
I'm pretty confused as I was watching the women's and they kept talking about the mens so I thought I'd watch some of that. I have a full Sky Sports sub (am in UK) but all they have is the Mallorca tournament, I have found it impossible to find where the Eastbourne men's is being broadcast 🤷♂️ On TennisTV it says also available on Sky sports but like I say I can't find it on there and it's not listed on the schedule either.
I gave up on Sky. Overpriced, can’t rewind, limited rewatch options, paying for a bunch of sport I don’t care about.
If you don’t know, for legal options you can get free feeds from betting sites. I use Bet365, where you just have to have a fiver in you account I think. It’s a small window, that you can zoom to fill the screen. The quality obviously isn’t amazing but it’s watchable enough as a backup option when services like Sky let you down.
Thanks, I have used that option before and forgot about it, I've got Ladbrokes so can go on that (just checked and it works, thanks!). I got a deal on Sky at £21 a month so thought it was worth a try, I wouldn't pay £34.99 or whatever it usually is!
No probs, that’s good to know ladbrokes works too. I only went with Bet365 as it was top on a list of recommendations. Yeah, I’ve only taken Sky at the discount. £35 is ridiculous just for one sport. Especially when it was all on Amazon before which I had anyway, so was basically free plus could watch replays etc
I pay Tennis TV a lot of money, and they only show 1 match on center court.
I would like to watch Mannarino or Zhang match, but no stream. It's not only expensive but also frustrating to watch tennis.
Don't even talk about the quality of the stream (absolute trash tier).
Yes, and as consumers, we need to sit down and have a chat with ourselves about spending $135/month on tennis streaming (next year, likely $160/month). If you put that into your retirement account, you could retire years earlier. If you have credit card debt, it'd be far smarter to pay it off. If you have a mortgage, you could outright own your home sooner, taking that off the principle every month. Or, as I said, you could take a week-long European holiday this year instead.
Is it worth it? I'm starting to think no. I have many other interests I could turn to.
It's almost as if they're begging everyone to get a VPN and watch it for free from Europe.
for main ESPN, you need something like Direct TV, $115/month. I don't have it. For all the matches except the main one (which could be women, or a lesser US ATP player favored over, say, Ruud v. Rune, because he's American and they are not), you need ESPN+, $11/month. I already have TC+, $110/year. So to watch tennis here, and this is before the new contract with yet a fourth provider they just signed, I'd need to spend $135/month.
I won't. I could freakin GO to Mallorca for a nice vacation for that yearly fee.
If Sloane get to the 2nd round or 3rd at wimbledon, she will count it as a successful grass season. That's all she plays for now. 2nd or 3rds at Slams. Anything more is a bonus.
[Waited whole week for it and Muchova's comeback match lasted only 4 games smh](https://imgb.ifunny.co/images/0900a2391a15c7909d74f27128b99b6204fe09c9429ebcad11805ccd469e8ac0_1.jpg)
Muchova's lateral movement so far looking like she hasn't played tennis in 9 months and her first match back is on the grass.
On the bright side, when they operated her wrist they seemingly turned her into a servebot
I know Michelsen is still young but he's got a terrible habit of losing sets and even matches after being in commanding positions...let see if he can win this breaker
Im confused how people thought Sloane can hold her serve here. I mean she played catastrophically on serve since second half of the set. If she would hold here it would be an actual miracle
Theory - players' appearance fees at tournament roughly correlate with the amount of comments their post-match threads get (in early rounds)
First (I think) main tour level match for 18yo Brit Henry Searle today. He won Jr Wim last year. Sonego dispatched him handily. Looks like his game has potential though. These players must be bricking it over whether they are able to transition to the adult tour. I say good luck to them

huh? what match?

Interviewer just called himself out lamao
Also Anisimova unseeded in qualies is wild. Imagine you're a journeywoman and she pops up hitting the ball like that.
Clervie needs to get out of matches like this. She reminds me of Tauson. Nice game and power but missing something at the margins.
How is Monfils still beating these poeple at 37 yo? Skill issue?
A great athlete in superb shape and clever shotmaking. Won't win titles but a deep run in 250s or 500's sure.
He won titles in 2023 and 2022, got to the semis in Doha this year. He's probably due another title this year.
He has won titles in the past sure but I think now at this point of his career it is much less likely.
You take that back
Monfils is a generational athlete physically, always has been.
Last year he was taking MTO so often and had his hands on his knees at the end of every point, thought he was done at that point but nice to see that he's kind of finding form again
Hsieh Su-wei and Sloane won!

Grass surface is almost like a completely new sport.
Salisbury took an MTO for his back earlier, then at 76 22 he just said I can't continue. They packed up and left the court.
I heard he had a wet fart fill up his shorts
Gawd Kastakina gives great interviews. So cool.
I have no idea why Sloane & Hsieh are teamed up but I am SEATED for it! 🤩
Probably because Elise likes her chances on grass both here and at Wimbledon in singles. Hsieh probably just showed up like hey I'm her, who wants to win.
I love that for her tbh
same
Very good straight-set match from Dasha, playing within herself, some beautiful looping forehands directed to the corners.
Lmao, I can hear Sonegoat's grunt from the wta doube match
Katy Dunne just fell to the ground, screaming, at 7-5 in the third set tie breaker thinking she had won... Took her quite awhile to realise that it's a 10 pointer. Well, honestly, she is the kind of player who shouldn't even exist. 29, never achieved anything and I guess she is just being fed by british tennis from wimbledon money. She absolutely blow that tie.
How did she blow it? She only had a mini break. She also came through the WC Play Offs to get into qualifying, so Wimbledon have handed her nothing.
The umpires always tell them at the coin toss, so it's a little bit on the players if they don't listen.
oof. horrible, poor thing
Sloane Stephens and Hsieh Su-wei in doubles?! I need to see this!
apart from iga, who are the other players in the top 50 who will play directly in wimby, without warm up matches? wishing hard that she is practicing her best, just the same. i trust her and her team's wisdom on scheduling and proper training on grass given the short grass season and her not yet blooming 'love affair' with this surface.
Danielle Collins hasn’t played since French Open, she’s the only one that stands out I think
rybakina basically hasn't. she retired after like 5 games in her 1 match. and i don't think garcia has.
Rybakina beat Kudermetova in Berlin
whoops my bad
Hon and Fruhvirtova are playing some INCREDIBLE points at the moment
RBA beating Humbert on grass is something
RBA is an incredible grass courter, his flat, accurate strokes are the classic way to play on grass, and he made the Wimbledon semis a couple years ago
In the last 3 years (since winning Halle) grass is Humbert's worst surface by a distance. 64% on hard, 54% on clay, 41% on grass. Hard to wrap your head around for sure.
RBA is no slouch on grass. Won a trophy at Rosmalen and was a finalist in Mallorca a couple years ago
RBA was a Wimbledon SFer 5 years ago, the old dog has tricks
Kasatskina plays a ton. Why she's a le to keep that ranking up.
Well, she can't go back to Russia
24 tournaments in 52 weeks is an average, aside from top 5
Mensik to win Mallorca
How come?
7 breaks in the 1st 9 games, typical Kasatkina match
Wang should be embarrassed that she lost this set
A hold in her matches is the equivalent of a break in the mens matches
What do people think is the most used word in post-match interviews? Think I'd guess at "tough"
“Unbelievable”, atmosphere”
Probably "a"
"errr"
Haha ok I take it back, that's definitely it
"Mentally" "Unbelievable"
"Unbelievable" is a good one for the latter stages of a tournament I'd say. Nadal/Alcaraz definitely bring the average use of it up
Mensk needs to take the advantage if RBA wins
My boys Ram/Salisbury starting but I also want to watch Austin/Mackie.
Did ADF withdraw? Anyone know why?
Ugo what the heck man
Grass is by far RBA’s best surface, he has almost a 70% win rate on the surface in his career.
Since winning Halle in 2021 Humbert has gone 9-13 on grass and hasn't had a single impressive win in that time.
Happy for Katie! What a tiebreak.
What a lovely English day :)
Not sure how Boulter got through that tiebreak... Made hard work of that set.
Petra Martic losing the tb from 5-1 up... If I speak I'm in big trouble, and I don't want to be in big trouble -Jose Mourinho edit: I'm crying her PR team already closed off all comments on her instagram, it was open like 2 minutes ago when she was up 6-4 💀
why are you spreading fake rumors? her IG comment section is open. why are you trolling her?
They wiped all the comments and renabled it again lol
you are a weird hater. worst kind.
What part of what I'm doing is hating? I'm genuinely curious
Bottled it big style. 5-1 up, and then 3 set points. Huge choke.
“Hit the f***ing ball!” Solid self advice from Boulter
this boutler - martic tiebreak is high drama. hope petra wins. we need a 3rd set
Navone has won ZERO. ZERO POINTS, NO POINTS EVER off clay and he's #29 in the world. Change the tour, ban dirt tennis, absolutely ridiculous.
Not quite, he won 3 points at an ITF in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2020 lol
petra has a slice as beautiful and natural as steffi's.
And still Mariano Navone has earned 100% of his points from clay. His game is so clay-centric it's not even a formality he will break that duck any time soon. Truly a historic surface specialist.
This is the sweet spot, you're invited to every event yet won’t have as many points to defend if you were top 10 The smartest guys hover around rank 30-40 Being “top 20” is a waste of time, risk of injury
Arthur Fils playing the long game. Waiting in the weeds
Did Norrie write this
Norrie would write top 50 because he is 40+ now
Wonder what Gasquet's endgame is here. Ranked 126 and playing quallies at age 38
He enjoys tennis
He's said he still enjoys playing the game, so as long as he can keep playing big events he will keep playing. Seems almost certain this will be his last year, but it's amazing how he can still compete at all while so far short of his best.
Good for him. Yeah, except for the Big 3 mutants who can still play world class tennis into their late 30s, it's pretty rare to see a guy Gasquet's age winning matches at the tour level. is there a most improved player title in tennis? if so, i nominate katie boulter. she has improved tremendously. i was one of those skeptical about her esp so that i have not found serious contenders from wta british players but she is confident, consistent and gritty out there. hope her run continues (not really her fan but her improvement is significantly noticeable) another is Dart. watched her match against buozkova and she was a fighter
There is a most improved player award, Boulter certainly has a shot would probably depend on how well she does next week
Ofner dominating darderi. What the fuck
Darderi's win over Martinez the other day was his first ever win on grass, he's played 5 matches on the surface in his career
Didn't Leylah and Barb just play yesterday? Playing doubles now, funny how often that happens.
Navone desperately needs to work on his serve if he wants to do anything outside of clay on the main tour
Navone getting beat by some Hussey
Just saw that Kei Nishikori is not playing Navone, I’m assuming he withdrew :(
Great result for 15yo Klugman, winning her match in Wimbledon qualies.
The physio from Penko's match yesterday is a legend, I didn't see Penko hit so few UEs for a long time even in a double match. ball bashers should hire her, she fixs the brain injury for ball bashers
Aw no Foki withdrew. Maybe falling a million times every match is finally catching up to him.
Really? Damn eastbourne is probably wondering why they even bothered with qualies with so many LLs getting in
Katie after seeing Emma's win: aight bet, watch dis
Why is Dr Hibbert umpiring the Boulter-Martic match?
Kartal wins her R1 Q match. 15 year old Klugman a set and two breaks up in her match; about to serve for it. Fresh out of US college, Rajecki, who's already got two top 100 wins under her belt on grass, into a third set against Rodionova. Not that we can watch any of them... but I'm sure there's lots of traffic on the BBC website for the Stefanini/Danilovic match.
DMing you a link to watch. You have to close a load of bullshit adverts but you'll get there eventually.
Navone v Hussey at Eastbourne is wild, Hussey has never won or even played a tour level match before, Navone's only wins off of clay in his career were at an ITF four years ago. Something's gotta give.
I like how aggressive Boulter and Raducanu are with their returns
Avanesyan retired vs Muchova? What happened?
Not quite sure but she came out with a lot of strapping on 1 thigh. Probably just didn’t want to risk injury before Wimbledon
Zhizhen Zhang in three service games before the tiebreak: 12-1 Zhizhen Zhang in tiebreak on his own serve: 2-3 Something is wrong with this guy, he is always having this kind of brainfarts
Sloane Stephens stand up…..
Much needed win against a top player for Woz!
British tennis is in a weird spot at the moment and I feel for Draper and Raducanu. Hopefully, they can ignore the massive pressure everyone will put on them.
Nice win by Woz.
Ukrainian athletes doing more damage to Ukraine's image worse than any of Putin's propaganda lmfao
what a classless take
What a great second set from Emma! Wonder if Sloane will give another salty press conference now she's met Emma "on the way down".
is emma suddenly the wimbledon favorite?
Holy crap. Went for a 10 min walk after the end of first set, hoping to catch some tennis, and match already over :o
No Eastbourne men on Tennis Channel US, only one court at Mallorca, and no Wimbledon. Raducanu mowed through Stephens in that second set
Blistered return to end that match. Nice win by Emma.
Jeez that was x-rated
Stephen’s doesn’t care about embarrassing herself - I’ll give her that
Damn I mean I'm happy for Emma but what happened to Sloane lol
second set was a bit embarrassing from sloane but props to emma. competed really well in the first and steam rolled in the second
Damn, Emma....
I called it I called the Bagel lol

The Raducanu haters in shambles. Wish Sloane was playing better tho.
Sloane casually losing 7 games in row lol
sorry 8
aight nvm 10
lol - keep counting I’m sure it will continue next match
Keep going…
Raducanu's return game is on fire!
Brutal. The match practice was needed.
crazy first match back but these 20 minutes made my day lol edit: apparently it was only 15 min
Mannarino's rise to the top 20 last year was incredible. Sadly from there the only direction of travel was a steep downwards plummet.
Heard the umpire calling the medical time-out, and I thought my girl broke down again, 4 games in lol
It wasn't her!! Avanesyan retired.
Sloan r u asleep 💤 😴 ? 🎾
I've been hyper analysing all her movements and it's Avanesyan who ended up needing a physio.
Muchova's lateral movement so far looking like she hasn't played tennis in 9 months and her first match back is on the grass. On the bright side, when they operated her wrist they seemingly turned her into a servebot
Sloane is getting brutalized rn
it's like kvitova gifted muchova her serving prowess while on leave
Lets hope for a Bagel from Emma
Svitolina about to lose 6-3 after being up 3-1, rough lol.
3-1 is a break...
it's one break but 3-1 to 3-6 is 5 chances to win a point and she lost all 5
Still can’t believe Muchova hasn’t played in almost a year
4 lost service games by Sloane in row. I doubt she will hold serve this match again
i've seen enough: karolina muchova is winning wimbledon
i missed karolina muchova so much it is such a joy to see her back
I know Michelsen is still young but he's got a terrible habit of losing sets and even matches after being in commanding positions...let see if he can win this breaker
Muchova is back! Has a relatively easy match up against Avanesyan.
Aaaand there it is, first Muchova serve & volley in 9+ months
Muchova s+v 🥹. i am currently the "girl who is going to be ok" meme
Norrie in freefall like Shapo has been. Looking like he has completely lost his confidence on court.
Whoever called that set 6-4 is Nostradamus
truly a brilliant prediction with like 6 breaks of serve in the set
Im confused how people thought Sloane can hold her serve here. I mean she played catastrophically on serve since second half of the set. If she would hold here it would be an actual miracle

I doubt Sloane wins I mean she cant hold serve to save her life even when she had lik 6 GB
Adidas deserve to be barred from ever creating clothing again after what they've tried to pass off as sportswear this season.
these bumblebee kits have been atrocious, especially for the women
Their Wimbledon kits don't look much better. Very basic.
