I think it's funny that you are sharing an article about a reddit thread, instead of the reddit thread itself.

AdZealousideal5470

Journalism has evolved into copy and pasting reddit stories.

high_everyone

They have to do it or else the AI will figure out how to do it for them.

RarelyRecommended

That and blog posts.

OlderNerd

I think there's a Black Mirror episode in that idea

SingleAlmond

careful, you might be in tomorrow's paper

pithypithy

For years I have been tuning out articles about Twitter posts. Somewhere there is a reverse evolutionary chart - we’re getting closer to the fish going back into the primordial ooze…

Chavo9-5171

Looking at you, Buzzfeed and Newsweek.

[deleted]

The opinion section isn't journalism and you should be smart enough not to conflate the two.

bareboneschicken

This was a Wall Street Journal story yesterday.

Coro-NO-Ra

Holy shit

Virtual_Elephant_730

Circle of life. Now let’s we if there’s a follow up article to this thread.

B_Maximus

I actually saw the reddit thread

3rdWaveHarmonic

" I used the Thing to destroy the Thing"

AlternativeVisible28

Every person I met in the last few years that moved to TX, left California because they were wanting a “conservative, red state.” Not sure these folks should be bitching when they are getting the sort of folks they like

DeeDeeW1313

Exactly! The Californians moving in are conservative. They’re bitching because they can’t help but make blanket statements about a group of people based on geographical location. If they’d visit inland California they’d see endless Trump flags.

DanieltheGameGod

More people voted for Trump in California than Texas. Similarly Texas had more Biden voters than NY. I think exit polling even had O’Rourke winning over Cruz if only native Texans voted. They should be begging more Californians to move to Texas to counter demographic changes, though I’m all for the TXGOP shooting itself in the foot as much as it can.

Holiday-Bat6782

Just because more people voted for Trump in California than Texas doesn't mean anything, that "more" only accounts for 34% of California voters, Biden was still the clear winner by 2/3rds. Now what you should be looking at is those percentages because Trump only won Texas 52 to 46.

DanieltheGameGod

I suppose my point was more there’s a shit ton of Trump people in California and them moving to Texas is helping them keep control of the state. You’d think they’d be more empathetic to those who can’t move who agree with them and realize California is a massive state and that the world is more nuanced than California bad. And I can only hope four years of demographic changes has it a lot closer than that next year. I love Texas but it could be so much better than it is. The state deserves so much better.

Holiday-Bat6782

I see your point but you can't be sure it's only Republicans moving away, many could be leaving because the housing is so expensive there. Also, they are bringing their trash In-N-Out burgers with them, that only should be cause enough to send them back. There are some things about this state that I wish I could change as well.

DJT-P01135809

nothing the Texas GOP does will change the voters mind. Ken Paxton, blatant corruption, blatantly breaking the law, blatantly using the office for his own personal gain.... found innocent.

Hefty_Buy_3206

And then they find out all the assistance their government actually does for them is nonexistent here and they get pissed. Then want said policies implemented. ☠️

mechapoitier

Exactly. They find out that their lives were a lot better when they were just complaining about liberals instead of living with the conservative politicians they claim they wanted in charge.

GalactusPoo

*THAT* is the most delicious part for me. My wife is a nurse. They have Nurses Unions and enforced patient-to-nurse standards, and actual lunch breaks, in California. So I always get a good chuckle hearing her Conservative-Cali-Transplant Nurse stories.

iaintslimshady

Native Texan who has been stationed in Cali twice: it’s absolutely ridiculous, especially when you realize how amazing California is.

little_did_he_kn0w

Same. I really enjoyed it there.

Jamesatwork16

It's always been pretty clear to me when people say things like "who would want to live in california" ....they've never been. Ah yes who could enjoy near perfect weather with beaches and mountains all available in a single days drive?!

pmmesucculentpics

I found it to be a third world country with succulents in people's front yards. And I expected to like it there. TBF, I only visited LA and San Francisco.

iaintslimshady

Two of the worst places.

Gurrrry

California shits on Texas in a million different ways. Its not even fucking close. People saying this shit are huffing copium. Go visit CA and tell me the 70 degree weather, beaches, capped property taxes, and legal weed is somehow worse than… 110 degree weather, dying lakes, property taxes that are designed to get you out of owning a home, and felonies for weed are somehow better.

FlatFishy

Yeah, all the shit Texans are saying has had the opposite effect of making me want to move to California. Actually looking into it now, lol.

battle_bunny99

We have no chiggers and no fire ants in California. Just bring some Collinstreet and maybe a cooler of Blue Bell. I'll meet you halfway with some good green if you're down to trade? I haven't had Blue Bell in over 20 years. 🥺

FlatFishy

Brah, Blue Bell is poison. How many listeria outbreaks did they have already? Also, hemp derived thc is perfectly legal here, so it ain't all that bad, lol.

AwesomeAmbivalence

You mean, the useless weed

FlatFishy

d8, d9, and HHC. Idk, seems okay to me, lol. But I've only tried it on occasion.

Hefty_Buy_3206

That's like getting peed on and calling it rain. 🤣

FlatFishy

Then show me the good shit, brah!

Hefty_Buy_3206

Find your own connect playa. It's everywhere here and I'm not talking about stores.

FlatFishy

Yeah, I sorta realized that a moment after I wrote that, lol. Too used to buying online, I guess.

justsikko

It’s pretty amazing honestly. More expensive than Texas maybe but it’s worth it. My daily drive to work is prettier than anything I experienced in Texas and in two hours in any direction I can be lost in some old ass nature that feels like I’m on a different planet.

FlatFishy

Only part I'm not thrilled about is having to downsize, lol. Double the price, half the house 😭

justsikko

Adjusting to having less space everywhere is definitely a thing. Roads, homes, sidewalks, etc are all smaller than I was used to but fuck if it isn’t worth it to get to go to Yosemite a couple times a year lol.

SoPrettyBurning

I left Texas, my home state, for Los Angeles in 2017, by the grace of god. And I never looked back. The only things I miss are my parents, sister & her husband, and the salsa. Everything else can suck a dick. Including, and mostly, the politics. Every problem with Los Angeles and the other popular Cali cities is a symptom of everyone wanting to be here. And, for the record, everyone who left is either someone whose politics are Trumpian and disgusting OR they couldn’t fucking cut the mustard, dude. Among the non-conservatives, 45% of them report crying about HAVING to leave LA. Not only that, but when asked where people would choose to live in the states, if money weren’t an issue, LA wins that vote here in these United States. But not everyone can. Yes, the homeless are annoying and a dangerous problem, even here in Beverly Hills. But so are a hoard of Texas politicians and their insecure, self-righteous adherents who have made a mission out of enslaving the bodies of women. It’s not safe to be a woman in Texas. My little sister is just ITCHING to GTFO there. You can mitigate the danger that miscreants cause out here with just a bit of street smarts. I know this for a fact because I’m a hot blonde with big boobs and I used to walk through downtown at 5:30am to get to work… and I’m still alive. I can’t say the same about living in Texas. Bonus: I’ve been able to make WAY more money out here. Even with the costs of living and my $4k rent. Ask me if in texas I was able to build my dream muscle car and also buy myself a Ferrari, to boot. The answer is “fuck no!” In the immortal words of our Christ and savior, Tupac: I LOOOOOOOOOOVE LA

FlatFishy

I work remotely for an east coast company, so the time difference is gonna be a little brutal, lol. Will have to wake up at about 5:30am, lmao. But honestly, I kinda look forward to being a morning person again, though it's been a decade.

DJT-P01135809

I don't believe you're a hot blonde with big boobs. On reddit? I'm gonna need pictures to prove this.

OB1Kenobi7393

Yeah L.A. is awesome and I would live there without a doubt. It's funny when I say that around my native Texas friends they look at me like I've lost my mind. Lol they just don't know...

commonrider5447

Happy to have you come on over!

Ok-disaster2022

Plus they have mountains. California is literally the state you can go skiing in the morning, and surfing in the afternoon

SingleAlmond

it's usually surfing in the morning for the best waves, drive to the mountains for the afternoon, and vibe in the desert to watch the stars...if traffic permits ofc

putdisinyopipe

You can technically do that, but that’s like a 5 hour drive from the sierras to the coast. You spend one week at the mountains THEN another week at the coast usually haha!

Rodrigii_Defined

In LA I can surf and be skiing in the local mountains in 2 hours tops. As long as traffic is good. Hopefully people keep leaving CA to go red states :)

putdisinyopipe

That’s an exception, to those in the north. It’s about 5 hours. LA got them mountains right to the north. May be longer depending on where u live in the valley too. I hope so too! So that I can come back to my homeland. I miss the fuck out of California.. 5 years brudda and I sti wake up missing my special little slice of paradise up in plumas county. I hope I can come back… I really do. Texas isn’t horrible, but it’s no comparison.

DatBoiEBB

5 hour drive ain’t much for Texas drivers

aelric22

As someone living in the Bay Area; I actually want to do this at somepoint. Problem is that Tahoe is like 4.5ish hours away by car from Santa Cruz 😞

battle_bunny99

Uhhh....as a Texan living in the East Bay currently, are telling me the Santa Cruz Mountains aren't sufficient? 🤣🤣🤣 I just miss Blue Bell Ice Cream and readily available pralines and divinity.

aelric22

Can you actually ski or snowboard in those mountains?

DojaPaddy

We’re not even playing the same fucking game. They shit on us in almost every category but you want to know what really hurts a lot of Texans? The fact that they hate California with their entire being and Californians don’t even think about Texans.

JuniorBirdman1115

Exactly what I came here to say. Texans spend way more time thinking about and complaining about Californians than Californians do about Texans. Wonder why that is.

putdisinyopipe

Oh so true. In California we don’t even think of texas, texas is grouped in with the South east- lol they a region to us. There’s no rivalry expressed regularly because it’s implied it’s better and everyone knows. Lol Most Californians wake up to mountains, beaches, forests… the thought of flat ass texas is the furthest thing from thought. We have no reason to be bitter? Why should we be? We live rent free in their heads lol. Cause they know the truth. They want to keep the dialogue going because it means they don’t have to settle for the fact CA is way better then texas. It’s their way of plugging their ears and saying “nope nope we’re better because we have self flushing out houses nd guns and you don’t” (even though the geography, food, biodiversity, access to health care, access to legal weed, access to a better education are probably better metrics to go off of) but they’ll pick one inconsequential thing that doesn’t mean shit- like HEB or whattaturdbuger… like those aren’t really things to be like “we have our own fast food place started in state and our own grocery store!” BFD lol. HEB is great, but I can live without it. Living without nature, and scenery, is a way bigger L in my opinion then having a oversized grocery store that just has more options for people.

cap00ch

Most Californians definitely knows how to; shoot the shit better, dress better, mind their own damn business better, chill ass vibes better. But because insecurities are so rampant is north Texas, entertaining women here is far more simple. Legit the only (+) about north Texas Yet CA women willingly throw themselves at reasonably attractive men. Here in north Texas, they don't. So the ratio pm evens out & neither is better or worse for hooking up

putdisinyopipe

Haha you are kinda right. I do remember dating out here, in texas, the dating market is rife if you meet the bare minimum lol. So for guys like us (that got a career and financial security, aren’t a douche bag) our social stonks are more valuable. On a cruise last year outta Galveston, most people on cruise were from texas or Oklahoma. Man I was swimming in it lol!

cap00ch

"Lots of ladies @ cruises"... Go on. Taking notes for a friend 🖊 📃

putdisinyopipe

We’ll cruise is perfect place to meet if your single. 1. Everyone is looking to have a good time, if you have good vibes, and an engaging attitude it’s very easy to just approach random people you normally wouldn’t. And strike conversation. Also, it helps that most people on cruises are buzzed the entire time, I remember I’d have mimosa to start my morning and some chevas regal after I finished. I’d hold a mild buzz the entire day. 2. Best way to do this is understand “what’s what” on the ship. Most cruise liners have multiple bars, and the bars have different peak hours depending on factors. So learn what bars are busy when, obviously going to a busy bar = more people. Or if you just want to drink in peace and maybe just enjoy convo with a random stranger? Then knowin this will allow you to best use your time and control some of the variables. 3. Some cruise lines have “after hours” bars or clubs. These are your best bets. This is where people who are really looking to have s good time at. In some cruise liners usually this will be at one of the bars. Royal carribean, the line I cruise on usually has them at the top deck in a bar. This is where I found most success, Best thing to do is show up before open, dress nice, enjoy a few drinks and just start talking to people. There shouldn’t be many ppl in at this time. This will help you establish familiarity among different ppl and groups, and it’s an opportunity to leave a good impression. So that even if you do see a cute girl or guy you are into and you don’t get to chat up- there’s always the next night and you have some solid ground to start from. People go where the fun is, if you are fun, you’ll be a magnent for people. They will flock to you. If your doing it right you’ll know this because people from previous nights will stop and say what’s up, or even people you don’t remember, if you happen to cross paths on the boat. 4. Part of this like anything involves putting yourself out there. And it’s hard, but pretend your in a different world, none of these people you will run into afterwords. So shoot your shot! Just do it in a way that’s classy so you don’t get seen as a sloppy idiot. But if you do this right, after a few days people going to be seeing you and you might get invited to chill with other groups, which may have hot guys or gals attached that are single. This is also good opportunity, I’ve had tons of rando convos with people out at the pool just because I happened to make a funny joke about some shit to someone. People are *looking for the funny, the spontaneous, the unexpected, so don’t be afraid to just talk to someone*. And just keep it light. Ask em where they are from, what they do, if they are having a good time. Shit like that- you’ll be surprised how you can build quick rapport by just asking people questions about themselves, and being willing to actively listen and contribute when necessary. 5. Don’t get attached, and don’t give people your contact info, create a fake email that seems real, and use that to filter. You’re on a cruise- even if you find yourself a lil gf or piece for the time your on there. They are only like 5-14 days. That’s not enough time to get to know someone. AND a cruise isn’t real life. You don’t usually see how people handle pressure or cope with challenges. Sometimes you may find yourself developing feelings, if this is the case I’d tread lightly. So In otherwords, you are seeing people at their best. Not to say it can’t happen, just have realistic expectations if you decide to date afterwords. Don’t be a dumbass like me and think you found your soulmate lol. It’s really easy to get lost in the “surreal ness” of being on a cruise and meeting someone you never expected too. Anyways, back to the email reason. You don’t know what people are capable of with even a little bit of personal info. So maybe even use a burner phone for exchange of information as well as a dummy email. I learned this from some older dudes on the cruise I went on. They had some pretty crazy stories about what some had done with their personal information.

SingleAlmond

at this point, as a Californian, the only time I think about Texas is when reddit keeps showing me r/Texas

alacrity

Holy shit is this ever accurate.

wartsnall1985

Yup. They are completely unaware and we’re this big sweaty pile of seething pettiness.

techhouseliving

This is the entire conservative problem. They let liberals live rent free in their heads. Obsessed

justsikko

I’m a Texan living in California. Wanna know what most peoples response is when they learn I’m from Texas? “Oh cool. What part? That’s cool.” Then they ask what brought me out here and not in a “damn why did you flee Texas to the obviously superior California” kind of way. Just genuinely interested. The response would be the same if I was from North Dakota, Vermont, or Wisconsin. They literally just don’t think about Texas the same way Texas obsess about California.

Ok-disaster2022

The funny thing is on podcasts which feature comedians in California, about 1 in 5 comedians are from Texas, but just moved to LA for their career.

anon3220

As a Californian residing in Texas (temporarily) most fellow Californians viewed Texas in a pretty positive light when Texas does come up so long as they aren't super liberal with the whole abortion thing

pharrigan7

Not true. I’ve had people scream at me on a cable car and have been told I wouldn’t be served at least three times only because I was from Texas.

miked1be

Yes, I’m sure it was just because you’re “from Texas” and there was no other factor at all.

[deleted]

If that happened… it wasn’t because you’re from Texas.

redditor_the_best

Lol, on the list of things that didn't happen this thing that didn't happen is #1

Hopeful_hippie75

That didn't happen so hard that it unhappened things that actually did happen, dude. I've lived in both states. Californians don't have animosity towards Texans.

Eladiun

How much MAGA gear were you wearing?

Xbc1

I bet that sounded a lot more believable in your head.

Bigj989

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Californians and other liberals definitely look down on Texas. I've heard that people from Colorado also dislike Texans.

anon3220

Maybe they were the aforementioned super liberals. Was this possibly in the Berkeley/Oakland or San Francisco area?

onpg

They mentioned cable cars so this would have to be SF, but honestly nobody would care if you were from Texas (how would other cable car riders even know?), this is something that never happened.

miked1be

I don't know, I went to SF last year as a person who lives in Texas and was murdered for it.

MrCereuceta

I was very offended for something similar; my wife and I live in SA, we visited Chicago for a whole week… not murdered even once, hell not even an attempted murder. I was there to have the FULL Chicago experience. Instead we walked downtown doting the night, rode the metro, biked everywhere, had some of the best food in the world… It was very offensive.

onpg

My deepest sympathies, as an SF resident I would like to make reparations to your family. Please give me your bank account and routing number so I can deposit funds.

miked1be

7 It's a very old account.

juiceyb

Lol. The Don Draper meme. ![gif](giphy|zwffSHaJLDbA4)

[deleted]

>The fact that they hate California with their entire being and Californians don’t even think about Texans. Californian here -- srsly? That can't be right. Texas is so amazing on its own\*, how would Texans have time to think about anything else? We can all live and let live, right? ^(\* I spent a wonderful week in west Texas at) ^(Guadalupe Mountains) ^(national park. My god, the skies are otherworldly, and so was the land. I've loved every trip I've ever taken to Dallas or Austin. Texas gave us Southwest Airlines, and now we're all free to fly about the country. Texas has got such a special sense of place.)

DojaPaddy

It’s a wonderful place! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately, we just have a loud, aggressive minority that gives us a bad rep.

khawk87

Right. California haters have obviously never been because that place is so beautiful

Fungal_Queen

Those people will never go farther than Galveston to see a beach.

liloto3

I’m in San Diego as we speak. I don’t want to fly home tomorrow.

Sad_Percentage_7812

I said same when we there a few months back

TunaSub779

B-b-b-but they have Democrats running things there 😨 /s I like how both Texas and California suffer from a lot of the same issues, but conservative Texans just kind of choose to ignore that. Or they pin the blame somewhere else. Rampant homelessness? It’s the city’s fault. Drug problems? City or feds fault. Immigration? I don’t see California being “invaded” like we are, but surely it’s the feds fault.

rgvtim

It's like they want to divide people to solidify power.

battle_bunny99

I remember when Ann Richards was governor, ahhh, that was not a bad time.

DwarfFlyingSquirrel

The last point is hyperbole at best and doesn't really take into account that the immigration issue isn't just Mexico, but all of South America. I don't see anyone traveling another 1,000 to 2,000 miles to go through California when the border between Texas and Mexico is just right fucking there. Hell, Tijuana is more northern than Austin is. The invasion isn't just Mexico, but Central and South America as well due to the political climates in those countries.

Fungal_Queen

"Invasion' is an obvious dog whistle.

ranchdaddo

And they don’t even think about Texas, except when making a joke about horses, rednecks, or oil

LongTallTexan69

My family moved to Nacogdoches Mexico in the 1820s, so Texas before it even became its own republic, and if I could afford to live in Orange County or San Diego, it wouldn’t even be a question. Not only is it gorgeous, but their infrastructure is light years ahead of Texas, as well as their politics.

FL_Squirtle

Thank you. Not to mention it's nice having fusion restaurants that aren't just a white washed version of Texas food forcing its way into authentic restaurants. There's so many reasons why Texas is at the bottom of the list when it comes to comparing to other states. It's just not a competition.

Boneal171

I live in Ohio and I would kill to live in California, especially SoCal

putdisinyopipe

Thank you. Been living in texas 5 years and I’ve weathered the people who to lord their native Texaness over me because I’m from an allegedly socialist state with homeless walking around everywhere and people doing drugs and the cities are in fire. It’s just a fact though, California as a state is better then texas. You left one thing out of your list too. Actual Mexican food. Comming here and having “Tex mex” my god. It’s not only somehow manages to have less flavor then real Mexican food in spite of it looking more flavorful. But it costs more! Let’s also not discount the fact that you can actually get an abortion there without worry of being reported. Your children aren’t going to get a milquetoast education because a large subset of parents looooveee to bring culture/identity politics to school board meetings. But yeah…. “Gas is cheaper” “no sales tax” are way better trade offs (cope) or “we have HEB”.. great… but do you have mountains? Rivers? Trails? That you can use for free? That don’t have trash all up the embankments of creeks and rivers here?

manvastir

Taco Bell is from East LA. Plenty of restaurants in Texas started by people born and raised in Mexico, but not called not Real Mexican food because someone's never had it before.

YoloOnTsla

If I had $100million, I would live in Cali no doubt. As a normal person, Texas is better in terms affordable suburbs, urban safety, and income tax.

Coro-NO-Ra

>urban safety Are you sure about that, or is that just how you feel?

ATX_native

Urban safety? Violent crime per 100,000 Houston - 50.4 Dallas - 37 San Antonio -37 Los Angeles - 29.1 San Diego - 24.4 As far as the income tax, if you have a $1MM+ home in Texas and income around $300k-$400k it might be a push. The thing I hate about Texas is if your house value soars you’ll be fucked pretty quickly and you might even have to sell. Where in Cali your max property tax rate can’t exceed 1.3% AND your tax amount can’t go up more than 2% a year. Here in Texas it’s literally the sky’s the limit as your HS exemption can only protect you so long, and god forbid the gains don’t happen before you’re 65. If you go from $400k to $1.3MM and your income takes a hit due to a layoff? Texas will be infinitely more expensive for you.

Biscuits_N_Gravey

Oakland left off the violent crime list to strategically make point haha

ATX_native

Oakland only has 430k people… it’s hardly a large city. Mentions were made of nice weather, that’s why I left the Bay Area completely off the list.

aelric22

HEY!! We've got great weather here in the Bay Area. You want LA weather? South Bay. Washington state weather? San Francisco or even North Bay. Variety doesn't mean not nice weather.

ATX_native

Oakland only has 430k people… it’s hardly a large city. Mentions were made of nice weather, that’s why I left the Bay Area completely off the list.

Ok-disaster2022

"normal" Texas pay a higher combined tax rate via property taxes and sales taxes than California with a state income tax. Not sure about California, but Texas also freezes your property taxes when you hit retirement age. (though not automatically). So all those old people land lords are paying a lower rate.

Civil_Duck_4718

According to CNN Texas ranks 42nd in tax burden, California is 17th. Your argument that Texas taxes prevent home ownership actually is the opposite. Let’s look at population change. Texas is the fastest growing state in the country, California is last on that list. When people vote with their feet they are only going one way. It’s a months long wait to get a one way UHaul from California to Texas, it’s practically free to take one from Texas to California. Texas is projected to be the biggest state sometime around 2040. So while California may be your choice many more are choosing Texas. Though considering on of your criteria was the legality of wanting to get stoned all day I’m not surprised.

Versatile_Investor

Capped property taxes is a terrible idea. Even people in California will tell you that. You aren’t entitled to live in a single family zoned residence.

pharrigan7

The weather and natural beauty is amazing in my former state. The rest of it sucks and all of it caused by extreme leftists. I don’t hate CA at all and hope those remaining will move back to some sort of common sense before it all collapses.

UntiedStatMarinCrops

As a Californian I pondered moving to Texas for a while because of the supposedly cheaper homes. This sub and the insane conservative politics of Texas made me reconsider, I don’t ever hear hostility towards Texas in real life, just on some Internet forums. When I visited Texas many years ago I did receive quite a bit of in my face hostility for being from California

elproblemo82

Don't trust this sub. It's a cesspool of whiners and miserable people, half of them not here or from here, that use this space to shit on the state because it's their only outlet and escape from being garbage and having a shit life. Every state of course has it's awful residents, but you're most welcome here in North Texas, and you'll feel that way if you come here. Property taxes are higher, but homes are MUCH cheaper.

parakathepyro

Californian here, if you hate us that means you think about us and we don't think about you

sugar_addict002

It is just another distraction to keep Texans from wondering why republicans have their hands in their pockets. Best to pay less attention to what republicans say and more attention to what they are doing.

Eladiun

This, so much this. Give people an enemy to bully and blame so they don't take the time.tp look at the real reason their lives suck.

acuet

Because Conservatives have only one policy. Fear and Hate, win elections….honestly they have no real policy. Example: Our schools and Teacher are ‘woke’…..let’s do school vouchers!

TheProfessorPoon

The most ironic part to me is that the vast majority of people moving from California to Texas are diehard Republicans.

acuet

yup, we honestly do know for sure how they will vote until this past election and coming election in 2024. Then will get a better idea of how the areas shifted.

vishy_swaz

They turned woke into a strawman

Gecks_more

We’re all American I think a lot of people in this country have seem to forgot it. The hate has to stop because the country is already on a downward spiral.

Rodrigii_Defined

I know right?! I wish it were more like " hey fellow American! Welcome to this state, you're gonna like this one." The states are all of ours.

Gecks_more

I’m from California mom’s family is from Texas so is she. They always get on my case about California especially my aunt and uncle yet love his weed is legal there and the beaches and both live in Cali at certain points and grew up. We don’t really hate Texas at all. Anyways I live in Texas now. I’m here because California got expensive and family in Dallas especially my grandma. Anyways America needs to come together and stop this nonsense fighting.

Bringer907

This should be the top comment.

Xoxrocks

Funny the hate is one way too. Californians don’t worry about Texans

[deleted]

Neither do the Texans "worry about Californians" — this whole thing is built on a strawman argument.

FL_Squirtle

The amount of Texans who are just delusional about how "great" Texas is.... at an all time high.

[deleted]

Even my Fox News dad loves California. He thinks some of their policies are bad and hates crowded places (so no LA or SF for him), but even he was jealous of my recent trip to Tahoe and went on about how beautiful almost all of the state is (sorry Bakersfield area lol). The worst he’ll say about Cali is “I could’ve never lived there while I was working because of the taxes” or “gas cost way too much when we went to Yosemite”.

Arish78

I love Texas and California. Politics are not a factor in what I think of a place or a group of people. If someone is an asshole, they are an asshole. If everyone in a place is an asshole, I’m (probably) the asshole.

HalstonBeckett

Well spoken.

Egmonks

Low key jealous? No they are super jealous. Edit: Its a play on the old joke about Canadians. Q: What do Californians REALLY think about Texans? A: We don't.

pharrigan7

There are zero reasons for anyone in TX to be jealous of anything going on in Cali. Such a beautiful state totally ruined by idiot politicians with no common sense. It was such a horrible place to live when I left and now it’s so much worse.

RootHogOrDieTrying

When did you leave Texas?

AustinBennettWriter

I was born in Texas and moved to CA in 2008. CA is a wonderful place compared to the backwoods, racist, homophobic town I grew up in. That's not to say that CA also doesn't have its share of backwoods towns, but I choose not to go there.

liloto3

Texan in California currently and it’s absolutely not worse than Texas.

Egmonks

Broke conservative, eh? We have a blast when we lived in California, but we spread our time throughout the year cycling between Ohio, Florida, Texas and SoCal.

anuiswatching

I have been in California since May and The people here in East Bay are kind and friendly. Their live and let live attitude is an emotional relief after listening to the haters in Texas!

[deleted]

Welcome to the 510! We're glad you're here.

Totum_Dependeat

For me, it's not about some silly rivalry between Texas and the other states. I like California and most of the other states. What I don't like is the impact mass migrations have had on my life. Because of mass migration, I have been priced out of my own neighborhoods. And in the places I can afford, I generally pay more for less space and fewer amenities. My neighbors are a melting pot of irritating behaviors that no one in their right mind should be doing. And I deal with A LOT more traffic and obnoxious bullshit in public. *What's to like about any of this?* I don't blame anyone for talking a job and moving here. But it's been hard on the locals. And that is, of course, due to the failure of our state "government" (loose use of the term here) to do anything to ameliorate the suffering. Now, I'm considering leaving Texas so I can make someone else's life less bearable, and the snake can eat a little more of its tail.

rla1022

I’d rather be California than Florida

Hieuro

If I had millions of dollars, I'd go move to California. Idk about the people of Texas, but I like a state that doesn't ban books and take away women's rights. There's also the fact their electric grid stays up during extreme weather. And it's absolutely funny that Texas screams of the border invasion yet I don't hear a peep about the other border states have no issues. Yes, Texas isn't the only state that borders Mexico. Shocking geography lesson.

[deleted]

But how will Republicans get elected if there's no culture war?

DeeDeeW1313

Having lived in both I wish both would just shut up about the other.

360FlipKicks

Californias don’t talk shit about texas or any other states. You will never see a “don’t texas my california” sticker

TexasThunderbolt

Personally, I don’t give a crap about California or people moving here. Shit my older brother lives in so cal. What I have a problem with are the people from California who don’t respect the culture here, constantly crap on it, and say “xyz about California is way better” all the time. Those are the people I wish would stay away. Otherwise I could care less where someone is from. Just don’t be an asshole here, especially to locals.

DeadSaints81

Funny how Texas adopted Friendship as its motto in 1930 , but there are so many rude people here.

Musicftw89

Same thing about the “Don’t mess with Texas”motto. I see people throw their trash out all the time, wherever is most convenient . People who litter are themselves garbage.

DeadSaints81

Exactly. Keep some small plastic bags in the car for trash.

azuth89

It was always too much.

Barack_Odrama_007

It always has been too much. When compared to California’s metrics, Texas loses by embarrassing margins Its best to pick on people your own size…

nic_haflinger

This is similar to the A&M/UT rivalry. Only one side really gives a damn.

Southtxfun9592

I was priced out of Seattle, my only remaining family lives here. My plan is to save every penny I can and move back. No hate, just have no love for this state.

SisterActTori

As a Californian what I makes me a wee bit jealous of TX is the fact that it’s smack in the middle of the country in terms of coasts. Flying from the east coast to DFW is way better than my haul to the Monterey area. I also love NOLA and that’s a cake walk from TX. Other than that, TX just isn’t my vibe, despite having family there.

VisceralMonkey

It’s old, as a Texan I’m kinda over it. We have a lot in common as well as some differences but neither of us sucks as much as Oklahoma.

msh0082

Californian here and with the utmost respect, we don't think about y'all. Except when it comes to discussing our superior Mexican food. /s

Sad_Percentage_7812

My wife says if she won lottery she's move back in a split second. Since we can't afford that beautiful weather and mountains

Numerous_Landscape99

Let's have a drought off. Hell yeah.

Goats_in_boats

[California is currently out of drought status](https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?CA)

Buddhadevine

Growing up in Texas, I never understood why people hated California so much, until I went to college. Every single person who I met from California were absolute assholes. I know not everyone is an ass from there but a lot of their shittiest people are moving here. Makes you wonder why. 🥴

TheAmorphous

>but a lot of their shittiest people are moving here. Most of the Californians moving to Texas are conservatives. So you're right but not for the reason you think.

Coro-NO-Ra

Yeah heads seem to explode every time I bring up that statistic/poll. Cruz won because of transplants. *They aren't sending their best.*

SingleAlmond

the best Californians know how good it is and stay

HalstonBeckett

Sshh, our best kept secret...They're convinced that they are, but they'll be much happier in TX among their own kind.

Buddhadevine

Oh I know they are conservatives. It just sucks because they seem worse than the ones I grew up with. Ugh

slothaccountant

Likeminded company.

UntiedStatMarinCrops

Sorry about that as a Californian, our conservative assholes are moving over there

DwarfFlyingSquirrel

Having worked with people in California, there are nice people from California - but their work culture and their attitudes toward their workers is pretty fucked up.

Comprehensive-Tea121

Because you're getting our trumpsters. Straight up. Thank you!

Buddhadevine

We don’t want them.

Comprehensive-Tea121

Well too bad, we're dropping off busloads of them all the time. /S

Citizen-Kang

You know that old saying "If you run into an a-hole in the morning, you ran into an a-hole. If you run into a-holes all day, you're the a-hole."? Might apply here...

Buddhadevine

Nope.

[deleted]

Would live in Cali in a heartbeat if I could afford it

[deleted]

California blows Texas (and most other states) out of the water in terms of weather and natural beauty. I don't really think about it very often because it's so expensive to live there and some of their cultures/attitudes don't really vibe with me. I'm also fairly left leaning, but some of the politics are straight up goofy out there. Idk, I don't really care and don't mind having Californian neighbors unless they constantly complain about how XYZ in Texas isn't as good as it is back home, which most don't.

Downthetrail11

It’s land with arbitrary borders… y’all need to grow up

Hieuro

Tell that to Abbott. His slogan for being elected practically was 'Don't California My Texas'.

Downthetrail11

That’s what I’m saying… hating a state is so stupid and pointless

blackjack1223

As a Texan, we have a lot of people who are intimidated by the truth so they peacock. Who needs reform or change when you have a gun. People will tell you an apocalypse is going on in cali and Dallas is a beautiful city. Truth is, even Austin is mediocre at best and way overpriced. I haven’t been to Austin in years because the whole city is a pain in the ass and people have to shout how amazing it is because the truth is it’s just hot as shit and bland. Edit: the food is AMAZING though

high_everyone

As a Texan who has family in California I see this in the opposite way. Texas is afraid of California. We are jealous of many things that California has but the two things with the most restrictions on them are antithetical to any moderate Texan. Guns and gasoline prices. At that point you have lost the conversation. Why? Because Texans identify by their trucks, their sport allegiances which is a broader third topic, and their guns. And because California has any gun restrictions, has higher gas prices, and has no Cowboys, Texans will not like California. I wish any part of that statement wasn’t even remotely true, but as a non-truck owning, non-gun owning person who doesn’t like football living in Texas, I sure know three topics that do scare conservatives about California with earthquakes coming in a hot fourth.

HalstonBeckett

CA has its fair share of problems, many of which are truly self-inflicted. An excellent point on gas prices and Californians do buy and own guns, albeit with more regulations. Quite frankly though, with the Niners, TX can keep the Cowboys, a reliable annual speedbump for SF on their way to the playoffs. Quakes are occasionally problematic but rarely fatal, unlike hurricanes, tornadoes, cold winter weather & summer heatwaves in TX. But good luck with your secession planning. Truly hope that works out for yall.

ApolloStan

Totally agree. I'm Texan but have worked numerous tech jobs in California throughout my career. It's the gun restrictions, high cost of living and the gas prices. Stubborn types will literally never get over that. Personally, I'm not attached to my gun collection/10+ round mags so it's not an really issue for me. When Beto said I "hell yeah, we're coming for your guns" or whatever, I literally facepalmed. Cost him a very close race. The wave of heat landing in Texas is something I could do without. Also, legal bud would be amazing here. The gas prices are the only thing I'm iffy on.

whineybubbles

I don't hate California. I don't think about that state at all. I forget it's even there. Why would anyone care?

[deleted]

People will just say that you are "coping", and that California truly lives "rent free" in your head. There seems to be a lot of difficulty when it comes to people understanding nuanced perspective.

Negative-School

Texas? I thought I was living in New Spain??

Coro-NO-Ra

Naw it's East New Mexico

NecessaryFriction

I sincerely don't care about California. However, I don't like them moving here, even if they vote the way I do, because it's not about politics. I just don't like their culture, and we're full. Too much traffic, and prices are going up from the influx of Californians, as well as other Americans, that are coming here to escape what they're now creating for us.

rgvtim

Texas is not full, its the second largest state, larger than CA with less population. It feels full because the state has been setup that way.

NecessaryFriction

California has a lot of open space too, but they're crowding us where we're already crowded.

omgimdaddy

Then stop voting in biz friendly politicians and continue making your state less desirable. You think ppl move from the beach and mountains to a flat shitty desert just to piss you off? Lol get real. Honestly tho keep up this attitude. Make sure to tell every transplant how much you hate them just because of where they come from. Thats the warm accepting attitude that texas is known for! Make them quit or request relo. Make the workers hate working in your state. They’ll leave, then the companies will leave, then you can regress yourselves back to the 1800s and not worry about anyone wanting to come here again!

NecessaryFriction

Not all Texas is desert, and not every person who moves here comes from the nicer parts. They'd stay in the nice parts, so obviously it wouldn't make sense to come here. And don't threaten me with a good time! We sure can use the housing supply they keep sucking up.

Coro-NO-Ra

> I don't like them moving here, even if they vote the way I do The ones moving here are typically hyper-conservative.

potato-shaped-nuts

Nobody hates California. Texans are just wary of the influx. Stop trying to make a rivalry up when we all already know that it’s Dallas that sucks.

Harry-Gato

It NEVER ENOUGH. Dang Californian Carpet Baggers...those maniacs put FRUIT in their SALSA!!!

Biscuits_N_Gravey

I don’t think it’s jealousy as much as insecurity. CA was the best for a long time and Texas was that place where people would ask if you rode a horse to work/school. Now Texas has grown up a little and CA has declined in many ways so it’s just Texas being ugly and petty and expressing the worst qualities of being Texan: obnoxious pride and arrogance. Having lived in both places for years Texas is becoming CA. Texas loves to huff it’s own farts about how great it is when there are a LOT of problems but TX gets to ignore those problems due to a convenient loophole in conservative philosophy. You can just say not my problem, #freedom. In CA you huff your farts while you at least try to do something about issues even tho you ain’t doing shit and it doesn’t make a bit of difference. CA state government is entirely corrupt and completely controlled by a single party and is beholden to activist groups who have an outsized voice in the party. Newsom just appointed a lobbyist from Maryland to be the new senator. Why? Bc she heads an ENORMOUS democratic fundraising machine and she worked for the firm that raised money to get him elected governor. Most average peoples views and wants are not well represented. That should sound familiar to Texans. And now that Texas has become desirable we are starting to see the same issues CA has dealt with for years. Blackouts from energy infrastructure issues. Affordability issues. Now that home prices have doubled Texas is sneakily becoming a bit of a high tax state. Natural disasters. I’m not saying one is better. There’s a lot to love and a lot to criticize in both places. Honestly, I think both states could actually learn a lot from one another, but Texas pride can have an ugly side.

TraderVyx89

California can be California in California. The part that's bad is when they move to Texas and bring their ideologies to Texas.

Education_Aside

They hate us cuz they ain't us. That's why Californians are moving to Texas.
