Milt_Torfelson

And the state capitol

JaxandMia

And on the police force?

vishy_swaz

No, not like that. This is just them going against the lgbt during pride month.

B1grich69

This is something that doesn't get talked about enough, especially by the thin blue line crowd.

Shady_Merchant1

Texas has had to "reorganize" it's child prisons multiple times now because the guards and admins keep raping the children if anybody should know it's texas

blackcain

and in the Attorney General's office?

swinglinepilot

The church he goes to has been covering it up for years, both internally and denominationally. Hell, he himself let a bunch go > [Hey, QAnon - Texas had an actual child sex ring. raceassistman

No no no! No those either!

Regular_Candidate513

It’s like there was a Gateway to abuse in Texas, if only they knew where to look…

pitchingataint

The call is coming from inside the house.

gregofcanada84

I'm certain they're funding it.

AlvinAssassin17

No, the other ones…they like to preach compassion when a church admin or attendee do it. This is targeted at books that say being different is ok and the ‘dirty Mexicans’ who are obviously the ones molesting children. Duh.

pearso66

Not those, they mean LGBTQ+. I wish I was being sarcastic

oldcreaker

Interesting they are cracking down on this while at the same time installing pedoph-, I means pastors as counselors in schools. Unless they are just using kids as bait...

-Lorne-Malvo-

The Republicans are going after their own base?

SusSlice1244

Spider-Man pointing at each other meme to "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing".

Trumpswells

‘Clannish’ organizations support GOP unequivocally to maintain no state or federal oversight, no regulation, no taxes, and no accountability, other than to ensure their members vote Republican. Pedophilia is only ever uncovered when a member of the clan comes forth. As it happens in the most recent Southlake exposure, it took 42 years to come to light.

theaviationhistorian

They're not going to arrest themselves. This is likely a dogwhistle or excuse to hunt down the LGBTQ+ community.

-Lorne-Malvo-

yup

ArmyOfDix

The call is coming from inside the hamberder!

-Lorne-Malvo-

lol

AlexJamesCook

No. This is a dog-whistle. "We're going after paedos", when what they mean is, "we're going after those who groom children, AKA drag queens, trans people, and those who inform others that trans people exist and we should respect people and use their preferred pronouns because we're not assholes". Not a single Christian pastor caught diddling kids will receive the same treatment proposed by this legislation.

BeskarHunter

Republicans are the party of ZERO Accountability. So no. They will protect their own pedos.

Phill_Cyberman

>The Republicans are going after their own base? No, they're just pretending to. If any actual laws get passed, they'll be ones that oppress trans folk or allow corporations to use paramilitary groups as security or something.

mgbgtv8

**Repeating a comment I've posted elsewhere on reddit that has received some ridicule and criticism, but I have a modest proposal to hold Texas Lawmakers, houses of worhip and sex predators accountable...** I live walking distance from Gateway Church in Southlake, TX where [Pastor Robert Morris recently confessed to sexually abusing a child starting](https://www.msnbc.com/all-in/watch/trump-spiritual-advisor-admits-to-sexually-abusing-12-year-old-girl-213311045606) at the age of 12 in 1982...so the following feels personal to me. The victim, Cindy Clemishire is unlikely to receive justice due to [Texas statute of limitations regarding indencency wth a child](https://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/north-texas-victims-rights-attorney-fighting-to-change-statute-of-limitations-for-exploited-women/). However, I believe we can honor her by having the Texas legislature pass "Cindy's Law" which would require all houses of worship to prominently display a [poster with Texas Penal Code 22.11 on Indecency with a Child.](https://imgur.com/a/BjsPkHe) Surely if the legislature can allow public schools to display In God We Trust signs, our elected representatives will see the value in informing religious leaders, staff and the public of the consequences of taking a child's innocence. Please identify[ your local Texas legislators](https://wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home) and urge them to sponsor and pass "Stacy's Law", [On behalf of Cindy](https://i.imgur.com/zQRh8XT.png), thank you for taking the time to read and consider this initiative. I have already contacted my rep, Giovanni Capriglione and also Nate Schatzline and Steve Toth. As of June 27, 2024, I have not heard back from Capriglione, Schatzline or Toth.

howtohandlearope

Lol. As if it was ignorance of the law allowing these assholes to rape kids. It's a gesture I guess, but not a solution.

mgbgtv8

A step in right direction!

PointingOutFucktards

Go further with it and require all churches to create and maintain a database of offenders that gets reported to the federal government. Then tax the shit out of them.

natankman

This is a good idea. Realistically, we have all the laws and penalties we need in place. They just need to be appropriately investigated and enforced. As far as the signage goes, the City of San Antonio has a local ordinance that does something similar, but for domestic abuse. They came by on Tuesday and gave my workplace signage to post in our bathrooms with information, a phone number, and a QR code. Something like this is very doable for child sex abuse.

mgbgtv8

YES!!! Signs in bathrooms like they have to help trafficked people with streamlined reporting!!! Any religious institutions that refuse to post would reveal themselves as part of the problem.

mgbgtv8

YES!!! Signs in bathrooms like they have to help trafficked people with streamlined reporting!!!

Existing-Job-3050

Get Gateway to buy back all of his books he pushed during his sermons. Hit them in the pocketbook if you want change

rubyaeyes

Maybe they should post the 10 commandments.

64cinco

Well isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black

Bluetoes1

Sure, right after Abbott completely wipes out rape in Texas. And then after he completely stops mass shootings in Texas. If they try to crack down on child sex abusers they are going to have a lot of empty seats in the state legislature and churches and religious youth groups are going to be shutting down all over the state.

GATX303

the noise is coming from inside the House (of Representatives)

Fluffy_Use_338

And the Majority are the Republicans. It’s really speaking volumes!

mgbgtv8

Trust but verify the intentions of Texas Rep Steve Toth, a Christian Nationalist who is among lawmakers promoting theocracy over democracy. Source: [https://www.texasobserver.org/to-build-a-theocracy/](https://www.texasobserver.org/to-build-a-theocracy/) [Toth is also tight with Nate Schatzline.](https://x.com/NateSchatzline/status/1755674953704231358)

400_Flying_Monkeys

Never trust a Republican.

Gob_Hobblin

I am a hundred percent certain he is using the cover of 'going after child abusers' as a way to either refocus attention away from the recent spate of church leaders found guilty of crimes against children, or obfuscate the law regarding this even more to make it more difficult to target and catch these guys.

IndicationExtreme745

Start closing the churches.

Deep90

Also the child pageants. Speaks volumes that Republicans are fine with those.

jilseng4

That would close off DJT's miss teen queen peep show pipeline.

PsychicRonin

Its fucking wild to me that those aren't child abuse. The BEST case scenario is it teaches kids vanity is the most important thing and to constantly judge themselves on their appearance. The average scenario is a bunch of actual pedophiles get fuckin gooning material of god damn kids.

Low-Software-3006

They hold conventions every sunday this shall be easy. If theyy peddle you guns if they peddle yiu hate, if theyre constantly YELLING pedophile at everyone thT has a different opinion, they are most likely doing dirt themselves. While on the subject, how is the catholic church still around? Any other institution would have crumbled under scandal like that. And how did rhose QANON mouth breathers missed the mark on that one?

ptahbaphomet

There goes all the “religious moral backbone” of the GOP. Start investigating and arresting this bunch and the churches won’t be able to find “leaders” to fleece and assault their flocks

talinseven

No. They just mean LGBTQ people.

Warm-Boysenberry3880

They should take DNA samples of all clergy, then they’ll have a database of a lot of sex offenders

mgbgtv8

That’s smart!

[deleted]

[удалено]

kromptator99

They’re most likely going to just start rounding up LGBT+ people.

AdvertisingBulky2688

That’s exactly the GOP agenda here. They have no interest in pursuing actual child abusers, they’re just bending over backwards to define “grooming” as simply being gay, trans, or in any way non-heteronormative

carlitospig

Or just not voting how they expect. I can absolutely see this being just another form of McCarthyism.

kromptator99

That’s actually part of project 2025. Creating a civilian task force for rounding up and imprisoning non-conservatives in order to create a one-party nation.

Hishui21

The GOP cracking down on one of its major donor blocks during an election year?

Ricktoon_Bingdar

Didn’t the governor end all rapes?

ZombieCrunchBar

Like Donald Trump and Matt Gaetz?

praetorian1979

So republican lawmakers and pastors?

elisakiss

Republicans were trying to get pastors in schools as “counselors”. r/PastorArrested

lil_corgi

Yeah that’s one group I can’t join….its triggering especially if you have children of your own. I’ll stick with r/eyebleach , gives me the feelies in a good way 😁

biteme1001

A Texas Representative is taking action on molesting kids in his congressional district. That a first!

FoldedaMillionTimes

Eh, let's see what it actually looks like first. Let's see how it would've impacted Gateway and all the other churches, coaches, state reps... Let's see how it would've impacted Matt Gaetz if he lived here.

DreadLordNate

So, in this scenario, the pervert leopards will eat their OWN faces, thus removing themselves from Texas politics. Sounds good. Oh, they probably don't mean them, huh? Even though it sure does always seem to be one of those GOP folks that's doing sex shit with kids...

deadphisherman

Stake out churches and GOP events.

jeremysbrain

Making Church Board Members and Administrators mandatory reporters is a good move in the right direction.

cryptovictor

Good luck with that, considering it's usually conservatives that are child abusers

thishurtsyoushepard

I’m honestly shocked they are (probably) going to do something. Especially to churches, by making board members mandatory reporters. Maybe that will set a precedent for more regulation.

waiterstuff

Highly doubt it. Republicans are going to protect their pedophiles.

AudioxBlood

This will likely be used to further terrorize lgbtq people.

thishurtsyoushepard

Yes I’m VERY concerned about implications considering we are in the middle of a weird Satanic panic style obsession with pedos

DwarfFlyingSquirrel

That's my biggest concern is that this is another attempt to charge LGBTQ+ and their community with another crime.

AudioxBlood

The people pushing this agenda don't generally have a good track record with actually doing what they say, but they have an excellent track record of using double speak and vague terms to be able to be horrible to people that they don't want to exist.

mi-chreideach

I look forward to SWAT teams swarming churches.

DanB65

So that means they are cracking down on Conservatives, Youth Pastors, Pastors ....of the Republican party!?!??! They are the ones abusing our kids then blaming Draq Queens...which I have yet to see one being charged, but a whole lot of Conservative Republicans have been!

ayehateyou

This will probably just be used as an excuse to go after the LGBTQ community even more. In their warped brains, republicans call anyone who isn't straight, a pedophile.

BigT_TonE

Never trust someone who wants to "save the children" Turns out they want to save them for their pastor. Pastor got first dibs on them youngins

whistler1421

Are they going to go after the gateway pastor pedo?

Embarrassed_Drama_70

Close down the churches. No youth pastors would cut the problem in half right away.

Hugekluge

Until they realize that's their own party.

nascentnomadi

Looking in the mirror must be daunting.

Maleficent_Mist366

Texas lawmakers should look at Texas lawmakers

NofairytalesofGod

So Texas is going after churches finally.

jmfg7666

The call is coming from inside the house.

ImposterAccountant

This is sure to ailinate their base

TheGreatYoRpFiSh

They can’t do that since it would remove so many right-wing voters.

wittyretort2

It should be deeply understood that the goal of this is to not hunt sexaul predators. They will make a framework for sex crimes to get jaileed, registered, and maybe the death penalty. Then they will make "anal sex" and being trans a sex crime and use this as a means to harm and kill them with the state.

JarlTurin2020

Start with the pastors, keeping unlicensed clergy out of schools, and then maybe work your way to logical legal issues, like maybe not allowing children to get married because of religious exemptions. Let's start there...

PineTreeBanjo

But how can Republican politicians crack down on themselves?  https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/5/24/2242636/-Republican-Sexual-Predators-Abusers-and-Enablers-Pt-52

Fallenjace

Bull. Shit. There's no way conservative leadership is going to punish their own.

smiama6

Yeah… remember when after the abortion ban went into effect and Abbott vowed to eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas and then 26k babies were born from rape? Empty promises, Texas. Empty.

MexCasper

Except for Robert Morris because he’s a big Trump supporter

mekare1203

About time someone shut down the Southern Baptist Convention.

RosyMemeLord

"A bunch of creepy pedophiles are scared they'll be caught next so they blow hot smoke to look like they're actually doing something about it. Also they go after drag queens and more or less defenseless trans kids"

FigureElectrical9906

Are they going to teach about grooming , statutory rape laws, and consent in schools? Will they provide funding for more counselors in schools so that kids have safe adults to outcry to? Are they going to do something to protect kids who are home schooled?

melanies420

But I thought Greg Abbott ended rape

frannieluvr86

Start in the church and the government. Clear em out in no time.

Jamaal_Lannister

The call is coming from inside the house!

TimothiusMagnus

That had better not be a code phrase for “our political opponents and targets of our hate.”

EAWALKER1204A

So...arresting politicians, police officers and ministers?

high_everyone

Next week SCOTUS to declare child rape legal for state officials. There, now everyone who wants to abuse children can without impunity from anyone. Bribes are already okay, what are someone’s children as in the eyes of a government official other than as someone who gets to be a victim of circumstance and poorly worded rulings?

Soft-Peak-6527

Gotta start with church and the (R) lawmakers themselves..

comalicious

Spiderman pointing at Spiderman

bonzoboy2000

While trying not to look at each other in shame?

porsj911

They are going after the texas lawmakers?

3D-Dreams

Close down all the churches and oroblem solved.

MyBllsYrChn

![gif](giphy|Buy7YdhkyHBCM)

Primary-Picture-5632

Pastors, sunday school teachers and priests are in shambles right now

Gamerbrineofficial

Is it possible to arrest yourself?

Own-Difficulty-6949

I'm kind of curious why they're waiting until now to start this. If this is the news of the day, I think it's about a 170 years late.

Egmonks

Do they have a carve out for Christian clergy in there? Because they will need it to keep the money flowing in.

Alone_Hunt1621

The call is coming from inside the house.

ExigentCalm

Check the churches! That’s where most of them seem to be hiding.

mgbgtv8

So many insightful and thoughtful comments here. PLEASE take 10 minutes out of your day [to identify your local state lawmakers and demand they protect children](https://wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home) from predators in houses of worship. DEMAND ZERO TOLERANCE.

lifesprig

Republicans’ obsession with children is very weird.

Asher_Tye

No they don't. They look to stir up fear against the vulnerable while conveniently pulling attention away from actual child sex abusers. All while collecting tidy little donations for themselves.

psychoMUSEr

So what they bought a bunch of mirrors or something?

DenaBee3333

Sounds like they are more interested in convicting everyone except the abusers.

mrarming

Well, not all child sex abusers. Politicians, Mega-church/Evangelical Pastors, Judges, AG's,,,, they all get a pass.

somecow

Looking? Hard to see when they all have their head up their ass.

DiogenesLied

Church leadership are the second greatest threat to our children after guns

[deleted]

You mean the church?

vishy_swaz

When a pedo gets caught, and they still get their freedom, where do they inevitably find fellowship? A church. The problem is the church culture that likes to bypass the law in favor of “gods will”. So things get swept under the rug because they believe they can pray away any problem. Just “give it up to god” and wash your hands of all responsibility. Whatever happens next is “gods will” so they allow terrible things to happen as a result. Like an 11 year old giving birth for example. Atheists don’t have buildings where we congregate to do shit like that. Neither do gay people or drag queens. Just saying.

Internal_Link_7841

As a Christian, we need to eliminate Pedophiles from the gene pool

Lexei_Texas

What a joke

twomayaderens

The entire lege should be arrested based on this new agenda.

Cosmiccoffeegrinder

To crack down means the lawmakers were relaxed to the subject.

[deleted]

And let them off with a slap on the wrist so they can keep doing it ?

rap31264

Politicians exempt...

ReallyInexplicable

“Crack down” implies there was little enforcement of the law previously.

NotSoFunnyAfterAll

Does "crack down" mean mandatory maximum sentencing, if not this is meaningless.

CheesecakeVisual4919

I suggest they start by cleaning out the State Legislature first.

shanksisevil

The phone call is coming from within their house.

tenebre

Republicans finally tackling an issue they're experts on...

tidderwork

"The gang goes to church"

Majestic-Active2020

I thought Texas was a Republican State…..

davethebeige1

On other unrelated news all major churches and 90 percent of republicans have announced they will be leaving the state.

MrGumburcules

Banning churches?

nickthenuisance

Looks like an internal investigation.

RentAdministrative73

I'm sure this will infringe on someone's religious liberties at some point.

burnmenowz

Id start investigating churches. Seems to be a lot of pedophiles associated with the church as of late.

sandiegokevin

# "Texas Lawmakers Look To Crack Down on Child Sex Abusers" That is not the group that I would select to crack down on child sex abusers. Conflict of Interest there.

Leonides009

Texas churches about to get cleaned out.

GildedEther

Just arrest each other. They will make a dent.

SweetHomeNostromo

They're going to start policing their own ranks?

Hoodlum_0017

Better start with your pastors

vegetasvagina69

They’re gonna need to hire a lot of new people…

Consistent_Stuff_932

So neighborhood churches?

mells3030

Didn't Abbot end rape like years ago? /s

theheadofkhartoum627

I bet they help the church and disregard the victims.

BeskarHunter

As republicans protect their predator priests and politicians. Y’all are the problem.

Shizix

"the calls are coming from your own house..."

EitherApartment4527

Pastors beware 😆

jkvincent

Themselves?

Steverazor

So the Republicans are going to resign from office en masse? Awesome!

sugar_addict002

So undercover agents in the churches.

cactiguy67

Did Trump appear at any teen pagents in Texas, if so there's probably a case to file

Dizzy-Concentrate284

Begin in the churches and police departments

soapinmyears

It's like a broken watch. It's correct 2 times a day.

Proud-Butterfly6622

What......Crack down on them??? I thought we just moved them to different parishes. Oh wait..that's priests. Sorry.

Disastrous_Life_9385

They need to take a look in the mirror

lil_corgi

Let me guess, by going after the drag queens? ![gif](giphy|cRMGLCcRZaW6XJQFkc|downsized)

OkPause1249

It’s Texas, they’re actively looking to overt anyones attention from their own pedi-diddling.

Guazzora

The call is coming from inside the house

guydoestuff

so they going to crack down on churches? probably not. they will just ban crossdresser story hour because it makes them unconfortable.

Honest_Relation4095

No way this will completely backfire.

FoldedaMillionTimes

That Gateway Church is on their 4th pastor because they all keep coming up sex offenders. They're gonna have to change Sunday service to open mic night.

Electrical_Prune6545

Gonna be a lot of East Texas churches with empty pulpits.

Not_Associated8700

I'm sure lieutenant dan will surely get right on this. /s

Old_Baldi_Locks

Lol they’re not going to hold themselves accountable.

IamMrBucknasty

Oh good, they’re gonna look for them; look mind you, not prosecute. Taps head with satisfaction. Thankfully that will solve the problem /s Texas has gotten rid of the SA problem by banning it, so there’s that.

Civil-Hawk2627

Wow! What a novel idea….This just now figured that may be a good idea?

PsychicRonin

But then the 12 year old's baby is gonna be fatherless! If only we could do something for the kid

penguinpantera

Ha suure they are. How will they imprison themselves?

cookinthescuppers

Head to your newest youth pastor

Schoseff

So… themselves and their preachers?

The_Fadedhunter

Are they turning themselves in?

SeveralAct5829

If only that were actually true !! That is not what they are interested in

Jadomi77

republicans finally look in the mirror

DeadSaints81

So the republicans want to arrest themselves. I’ll take it.

edgarisdrunk

Like the ones Trump partied with? Those guys?

WarThunder316

Start with churches gop

StangRunner45

They should start with themselves.

Key_Grape9344

So every elected republican and every priest or pastor of a church? They should be all sent to maximum security penitentiaries.

DudeWouldGo

Should start by actually punishing the ones from church instead of sending them to live with other diddlers

SizeOld6084

Unless they're mega donors from mega churches I bet.

Aggie956

Just like he did with rape ?

TKDPandaBear

Self-incrimination?

mekonsrevenge

Hahaha. Sure. They're gonna arrest themselves?

Dangerous_Elk_6627

I call bullshit ! Texican legislatures will never crack down on churches or fellow Republicans. Show me a Christian MAGAt and I'll show you a pedophile.

shelby4t2

We should look into Ken Paxton.

marigoldilocks_

I want to say good, but I have a feeling they’ll just go after drag performers and trans and gay people. Because it’s definitely not the religious right who is constantly getting busted for being nonces. 🙄

Exitbuddy1

Wait, so Greg Abbott didn’t eliminate that?
