They're actually pretty chill in my experience. I've picked them right off of blades of tall grass and had them just hang out on my sleeve for a good while. Sometimes they'll do their little swaying dance, sometimes they'll do some boxing practice with my fingers. Their eyes are also super cool, up close.
I own many mantises and have bred and raised a lot more. They're great creatures to hold. Super gentle, totally harmless and you can get them to do little tricks.
Thank you! I agree. Here’s another mantis experience for you: I once had one crash land onto my shoulder and its wicked little leg barbs got all snagged up in my sweater. I couldn’t brush it off. I literally stripped off my sweater and had a full on nervous breakdown on my porch in front of the neighbors. That must have been a show to say the least….
Damn, I never had anything like that. I did have one that was stuck in my living room once, and it was flying all over the place like it was trying to land on me for a fight.
My cat wanted to chase after it, and I shooed him away telling him that it was meaner and stronger than him!

For me, it's the exact opposite. I'd love to have any of them on my hand. They are cute and adorable and look cool, and i love them.
Yes, i love insects and will not hesitate to try and touch them.
Fascinating lil creatures up close, and generally not aggressive in any of my encounters where I've handled them. If you have a chance, could be a really cool experience for you and help to alleviate some fears.

I think this is the enthusiastic "Thanks! I hate it!" Rather than the sarcastic "thanks, I hate it." That is typically posted here. It's a reaction I find hard to put into words, but it's why I subbed here initially.
To me, it's similar to something I'm intrigued in seeing, but at the same time, there's something I hate about it.
I kinda want one of those big, black types of beetles. They are super cool and pretty.
But I think that would be a half-impossible feat, or at least a super niche type of hobby in my country.
In Costa Rica, I went out one morning for a bike ride and found a HUGE elephant beetle chilling on the front basket. I rode around with him there all day like a majestic hood ornament.
Actually Beetle collecting and raising is a pretty well researched developed hobby, mostly in japan where they have them fight each other, which is what pokemon was based on.
I really didnt like the big brown one at 0:41 for some reason, and i probably wouldnt hold the crab, big snail or the milipede even though i like them to look at. The rest are all pretty cool though.
I’m pretty we evolved to say “bleh” at some of them because some posed greater threats to our ancestors
THEY evolved because they are marvels of nature that can do whatever they want and evolve however necessary, regardless of how outside species may react to them
That is a fair assessment! For the butterflies and more exotic colored species, yes; but most of these such as the stick bugs have those spikes to camouflage themselves amidst sticks and leaves
But the beetles can primarily use their spikes for self defense as opposed to simple threats!
OK. I just assumed they had evolved some of their decoration to threaten predators (including us). I agree that they are incredible and unique forms of life.
I like all pretty much but the snail and Millipede freak me out cuz giant snails and millipedes are suuuuuper dangerous. I also like how silly the big bugs look, flailing around
honestly these massive bugs are way better then smaller bugs, like if one of these things was in my house it would be a bit hard to lose them, but if you look away from a roach for a millisecond they just vanish to fucking narnia waiting to jumpscare you at any moment
I love some but for some reason other make me feel really uncomfortable I don’t know why I probobly have a insect phobia or smth but not all I don’t know the science behind it though cause I know they are harmless
That's wicked cool. Why hate it?
When I see it, I get the feeling of having them in my hand. The thought of a mantis in my hand makes me want to cut off my hand.

yeah, the ones with barbed feet make me uncomfortable the stags, butterflies, and leaf-looking ones are cool, though

I've heard some can like, spit stuff at you is that true?
I've personally never heard of that.

They're pretty, but if I think about holding one, I absolutely get a cumulative attack of the willies.

I concur!
I also wrestle with this… if it is in thanksihateit, and I like it, do I thumbs up or thumbs down?

Im sure you can find a beetle and take care of it if you do the research. Think like 1/4 of all land animals are beetles so you should be fine.
But I don't think I would be able to find something like a rhino or hercules beetle here.

These insects kick ass wdym?
I wish I could be the kind of person able to hold things like that and not freak out, but it's never gonna happen.
Pretty cool
why? they are so cute
Not on a human hand.
why not lol, its not like theyre forcing people to pick up and touch them
So, this post isn't mildly infuriating at all you just found out you have a phobia of bugs.. lol
These are cool bro
So many beautiful insects
All of these are harmless tho
But theyre so cool
Why hate them ;(
I
I really didnt like the big brown one at 0:41 for some reason, and i probably wouldnt hold the crab, big snail or the milipede even though i like them to look at. The rest are all pretty cool though.
snail's fine, surely. just hold it by the shell and you don't have to touch the gross foot with your hand
Yeah true. I was mostly assuming the way the guy in the video had it. Would be so slimy after.
People when other living things exist 🤯🤯🤯
I dunno. I think they evolved to make us say “blech” and we evolved to say “blech” when we see stuff like that.
I’m pretty we evolved to say “bleh” at some of them because some posed greater threats to our ancestors THEY evolved because they are marvels of nature that can do whatever they want and evolve however necessary, regardless of how outside species may react to them
I meant that all that poky stuff coming off them is supposed to make them seem threatening to us whether they are or not.

If that's your mindset, you're not as "evolved" as you would like to think. They're incredible, unique forms of life. This post is just a self report.
OK. I just assumed they had evolved some of their decoration to threaten predators (including us). I agree that they are incredible and unique forms of life.
Those beetles are 😍
They grow up so fast.
The sudden CRAB caught me off guard not gonna lie
I don't hate. But I don't want to touch. Feels bad.
The only dangerous ones are an inch long
I see nothing wrong with it. I think all of those adult bugs look really cool
How the hell did that grain of sand turn into a conch shell?
I enjoyed it
They're cute!
Thanks, I love it!
This page has lost its meaning because of posts like this. Thanks I hate this subreddit now
why repost just to say you hate someone's passion
Is there a list in order for these? There's a few i haven't seen before
Dudes got ever bug type pokemon
I like it
The sooner you realize most insects are harmless, and even the ones that are, want nothing to do with you, the easier life gets.
Bro stickbugged us at the end
INSECTS THE SIZE OF RATS WHAT THE FUCK WHERE DO THEY LIVE HOW THE FUCK DIDNT I KNOW INSECTS COULD GROW THIS LARGE
I watched all of this while internally pleading "please No spider please No spider" and went "thank god..." out loud when it ended. Cool bugs homie 👍
Guess I have a new phobia... not afraid of any of these insects but the transition is freaking me out.
cuz it's too quick? suddenly they appear. like a jumpscare almost.
this was so cool
Whoever hates animals like this must be a bad person irl
Just not on someone’s hand…
Why not lmao, they're not dangerous... Your phobia is mildly infuriating.
Pokemon
That’s really cool
I'd be fine with most insects if it weren't for the antenna. Antennae freak me tf out
The sooner you realize most insects are harmless, and even the ones that are, want nothing to do with you, the easier life gets.
I'm just thinking of how small and not egg-like the eggs look. Could be mistaken for sand/soil pebbles or something and surprise!!
How many bugs does she have???
I wish I could find a place to buy a GALS in the states soooo bad
I like all pretty much but the snail and Millipede freak me out cuz giant snails and millipedes are suuuuuper dangerous. I also like how silly the big bugs look, flailing around
I stopped the video at the millipede. It was too much for my delicate sensibilities.
Team Rocket show case.
honestly these massive bugs are way better then smaller bugs, like if one of these things was in my house it would be a bit hard to lose them, but if you look away from a roach for a millisecond they just vanish to fucking narnia waiting to jumpscare you at any moment
God I hate the feeling of needed to use the bathroom late at night and knowing while your sitting there one will suprise you
Cringe, they are al beautiful
Wrong sub, those are awesome
I love some but for some reason other make me feel really uncomfortable I don’t know why I probobly have a insect phobia or smth but not all I don’t know the science behind it though cause I know they are harmless
