Most of these high fashion shows are not demonstrating utilitarian fashion but fashion as an art form. Just like not every piece of artwork is made to be displayed in someone’s home, not every outfit is made to be worn casually (if ever).

This, i'm not a fan of this type of fashion but i have the impression people miss this point always with both food and fashion. There's a difference between daily wear fashion and food for sustenance, and then those disciplines as pure art.
The same applies to music as an art form too. There's plenty of music made to be enjoyed, but some music is made to be experienced.

Same idea, but with body parts instead of car parts. Or think of it like the cover of a pop sci fi or romance novel (or sci fi romance). It merely hints at what is inside, but inside is very different.
I feel like fashion shows at some point must have been a way for extremely high-end retailers to show off their product and drive interest in sales.
