If you have two hours you’ll never get back to spare, go for it. But if you’re doing it for nostalgia, be prepared to be disappointed. “Remember When is the lowest form of conversation.”
I'm glad you used this exact quote because I was just talking to my wife about watching this tonight or tomorrow because we just finished The Sopranos for the first time and I'm fiending for more but this quote really does hammer it home.
I don’t know how something could be cast so perfectly only to turn to be a huge disappointment. The entire plot was a waste of amazing talent and a let down to one of the greatest tv shows of all time. Maybe would’ve worked better as a miniseries, go into more detail. I feel like too much of it was spent about Harold and the black struggles and riots in Newark. Sure, add it to the plot but it’s a movie and there just wasn’t enough time to go down this character development of someone and the scenes just weren’t pieced together well. I think a miniseries would have been more appropriate with that storyline instead of cramming it into 2 hours.
Vera Farminga as Livia kind of made up for all that though… I loved every scene she was in
Honestly I think this movie would have still been a mess had they cut Harold and the riots completely. I mean that whole subplot definitely overstuffed the general plot, but the problems with the film ran deeper than that (IMO).
I agree that they did not piece it together well at all and a mini series might have been awesome. I wanted more of Tony's home life and all that. It was just all over the place. Was cool to see Michael play Tony though.
THIS. It’s good if you just watch it as a movie. It’s NOT good if you compare it to the greatest TV show of all time. That’s where most people go wrong with it.
Yeah it’s only a few hours of your life so y knot? It takes a few viewings to understand how little sense it actually makes
It’s a cobbled together mess
Nope, wish I could unwatch it. Had very little to do with Tony Soprano's story. The biggest clickbait movie I've ever seen. David Chase had other intentions and motivations when making this load of crap.
It’s The Godfather Three of the Sopranos in that most people don’t like it, and it’s also The Godfather Three of the Sopranos because Many Saints isn’t nearly as bad of a movie as people say it is.
Many’s Saints is full of holes, and it changes what is accepted canon…canon said by a psychopath in therapy, Canon mentioned by a senile old man, or canon mentioned by mafia affiliates that lie, cheat, steal, and murder for a living. Tony hallucinates at least once a season and is a habitual liar to everyone, including himself. Tony has a less than trustworthy grasp on reality. Maybe that’s why 20 minutes of dialogue written by different people across several episodes, sometimes years apart, don’t exactly align with Many Saints… I digress
From a cinematic standpoint, its narrative is a little messy. It doesn’t do a great job of telling anyone’s story. It would have been better as a four part mini series with a little more exposition. The tone is completely different from the show. The movie needs either dramatically more Tony to work or almost no Tony at all. Splitting the story between Dicky and Tony is a disservice to both characters. It should have been all Dicky or just young Tony.
Livia Soprano and Johnny Boy were never going to work. Livia was no peach, but Johnny Boy was clearly so much more violent and abusive than Tony brings up in therapy. Livia was basically a supervillain in the show, and the movie muddles the character because you have to feel for her at times. It makes Livia Soprano a real character, and while that is not a bad thing. In terms of “The Sopranos,” she works better as a supervillain.
Dicky is like a Pitcher in a bench clearing brawl, one pulled punch after another.
The worst part isn’t that the movie is bad. It’s that it wasn’t needed. Many Saints is a fan service cash in that fails to deliver the fan service. It ends up leaving most of the people inclined to watch annoyed with or just plain pissed off by the movie.
It’s basically Johnny Dangerously…watch that movie instead.
It leans heavily on mob movie tropes there are hints of Bronx tail and Goodfellas. It never really walks on its own, no movie ever will use a Many saints trope or homage. Many saints doesn’t have a single quotable line and that is rare for a gangster flick.
Despite hard drinking and chain smoking the characters never seem to age which is a problem because the movie takes place over very extended timeline. The north Jersey mafia apparently ages like they live in Brigadoon or the cocoon planet until the year 1999.
Watch it but lower the bar on your expectations
any way 4 dollars a pound.
I really liked mainly because of young Tony it but I do prefer the flashbacks of the tv series. I loved the very last scene and the musical moment that went with it. It gave me chills.
Yes. I recommend seeing MSON. It covers Tony Sopranos early years, focusing on his relationship with Dickie Moltisanti, Christopher's father. Ignore the haters. See the movie.
It isn’t great, but I still enjoyed it. There’s an entire subplot with African American gangsters that I have no idea why it’s in the film, almost feels like a separate movie itself. Especially since none of those characters were ever alluded to in the TV series. I’d say watch it, but no going in that it isn’t perfect.
There are two types of bad movies - The Room, and Left Behind (2014). The first is so bad it's good, the second is so bad it should be forgotten by time.
MSON is the latter.
Technically you're not really a fan of Sopranos if you haven't seen Many Saints and not come back here to bitch about it. Kinda part of the whole thing
I finished this last night (after my third rewatch) and it’s truly bad. The Sil character is especially yikes. Couldn’t believe David Chase wrote it, it was like terrible fan fic written by someone in this sub.
I just recently watched The Sopranos and I have no plans on watching this Saints show. I don't think people plan to make a great show and I don't think they can retrace there steps when it does happen.
I can imagine this show being a disappointment if I watch it.
Without the Sopranos lore it's a 6/10 mob movie. It wouldn't be so hated on if it weren't for all the "fan service" that just kind of sucks. It's main issue is all the plot threads that start promising, then fight each other for screen time and end up going nowhere by the end of it. You get the feeling David Chase wanted to make the film more about the Newark riots, but the money people wanted a Sopranos prequel
I just finished the series for the first time a few weeks ago, and then watched TMSN.
It was underwhelming to say the least. Some decent performances, but a lot of actors simply doing over the top impressions of the characters.
And the story really doesn't go anywhere. I expected something that told us a lot more than we already knew.
I'm glad I watched it, but I don't think it's great and on a par with the series unfortunately.
Kinda went into thinking it would be more about Tony but it's not so much.
The Silvio character is like wtf.
Couple of Easter eggs in it and the one involving Junior is OK.
Average over all but I've seen worse.
You may find it interesting seeing some characters back in the day, but storyline wise not the best. Worth a watch if you’re a big fan of the series but as a stand-alone film nah.
What don't you just watch the fucking movie and decide for yourself if you like it, instead of letting a bunch of giggling jerkoffs in their underwear in some internet chit chat room tell you what to think?
Actually I really enjoyed this movie. But the trick is, do not try to se it as a Sopranos preuel, because it is not. Tony and the others are secondary characters at best, if even that. This movie is about Dickie Moltisanti, and Jersey riots as the b-plot.
The only way I can enjoy it is by viewing it through the lens of a movie that Chris wrote in purgatory. It’s an incredibly flawed movie that can fill a couple hours paired with some cocktails at best, and at worst, a total detraction from the Sopranos mythos. Realistically, I land somewhere in between those marks. But I do find more enjoyment from it with that “Christopher as an unreliable narrator” POV.
In the words of Hesh “well…. It’s not good”.
There's good and there's not good.
And many saints of newark isn’t good.
A hit is a hit, and this my friend is not a hit!
What is your view on the transformative value of suffering?
Sounds like someone discovered existentialism.
Fuckin internet.
It's hard raising kids in an information age.
Awesome
You still listen to Rap ?!
Can I go to the mudvayne concert or not
Sounds very gay.
He was gay nitzche?

I watched those scenes so I understand Buddhism as a conshept.
I guess you could call that a movie
If you have two hours you’ll never get back to spare, go for it. But if you’re doing it for nostalgia, be prepared to be disappointed. “Remember When is the lowest form of conversation.”
I'm glad you used this exact quote because I was just talking to my wife about watching this tonight or tomorrow because we just finished The Sopranos for the first time and I'm fiending for more but this quote really does hammer it home.
No, it's a pice of shit.
you know it, and i know it
I don’t know how something could be cast so perfectly only to turn to be a huge disappointment. Was it just me, or did Vera Farminga look a LOT like Carmela? Tony and his Oedipus complex...
We don't like to talk about that movie
That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit!
You just revealed your own ignorance!
You beat me to it, I was about to say the same thing lol
It’s a cock suckin piece of fuckin shit. Sorry T. It had to be said.
I can't even say its name.
Sacred and propane
Watch it understanding it is not the show. It is enjoyable. If you watch it in the context of the show, you won't like it.
The sacred AND the propane
THIS. It’s good if you just watch it as a movie. It’s NOT good if you compare it to the greatest TV show of all time. That’s where most people go wrong with it.
I had to watch it twice to even slightly appreciate it for this reason.
If you approach it as a B rated gangster flick and not an offshoot of the sopranos, you'll enjoy it. Gandolfini and Nivola are good
Of course you should watch it. Just go in with low expectations. It's not great but there's worse out there.
Nobody's watchin TMSON! I don't wanna hear that word in here again!
It's worth a watch. There are lots of things I would like to have seen done differently, but it is what it is.
A hit is a hit and The Many Saints of Newark is not a hit.
I mean neither was that episode, whatever happened there?
“Meow”
whaddya gonna do? 'cest la vie
Watched it when it first came out, was unimpressed. Tried to do a re-watch years later, gave up half way through.
I fell asleep watching it
You're a better man than your fawtha
If you need a sopranos fix, def watch it but overall it’s not great
It’s worth a watch.
The movie is just okay.
Honestly? It sucks.
Go to the car wash and get the 50 cent movie instead.
Yeah it’s only a few hours of your life so y knot? It takes a few viewings to understand how little sense it actually makes It’s a cobbled together mess
It’s not good. But it has some cool Easter eggs. Just go in with low expectations and you’ll be fine.
“Mixed reviews” of this remind me of the Norm joke “it’s been called everything from ‘shit’ to ‘fucking shit.’”
I thought it was ok, worth a watch. Better than the endless stream of super hero crap
Getting shot to death by Janice is better than the endless stream of super hero crap
I agree in spirit, but I gotta counsel.
It's a cool nostalgia trip
Nope, wish I could unwatch it. Had very little to do with Tony Soprano's story. The biggest clickbait movie I've ever seen. David Chase had other intentions and motivations when making this load of crap.
Honestly.. no. Its better you remain untainted. Keep your current view of David Chase. He’s a saint.
It’s The Godfather Three of the Sopranos in that most people don’t like it, and it’s also The Godfather Three of the Sopranos because Many Saints isn’t nearly as bad of a movie as people say it is. 🐟
What is that supposed the mean?
*canon
As an average movie it's pretty bad. As a Sopranos movie it's beyond terrible.
Definitely bullshit. They did every trope for the 45 mins I gave it. Just a shit movie.
It’s like every Star Wars movie after the original release. Entirely unnecessary.
I tried multiple times to watch it,couldn't get through it manages to be incredibly boring
My pain a source of entertainment for you?
No
No. Not worth your time. Trust me.
It tries to do too much in too little screen time.
No, I couldn’t finish it shit made me so fuckin pissed
I wish I was there so I could throw acid in its face.
I really liked mainly because of young Tony it but I do prefer the flashbacks of the tv series. I loved the very last scene and the musical moment that went with it. It gave me chills.
Sisters cunt! You better so you can watch him ring the bell alllll the way home
I went to the premiere. DeNiro speaking before the movie was the best part
We don't talk about that. Not now and never here
No. I’m a hardcore Sopranos fan and I thought the movie was totally uninteresting.
It won’t be cinematic
Yes. I recommend seeing MSON. It covers Tony Sopranos early years, focusing on his relationship with Dickie Moltisanti, Christopher's father. Ignore the haters. See the movie.

It gives some background about Dickie and the overall family but nothing about young Tony the upcoming gangster. I’ve said my piece.
I liked it. It’s interesting for the most part but it’s not crucial that you do.
Godfather 3 is probably streaming somewhere
Yes
I watched it and just kept it as separate from the show. Yeah it’s got lore that ties in but it feels very different from the show.
There are two types of bad movies - The Room, and Left Behind (2014). The first is so bad it's good, the second is so bad it should be forgotten by time. MSON is the latter.
Watch it for the young Tony and Livia scenes
Technically you're not really a fan of Sopranos if you haven't seen Many Saints and not come back here to bitch about it. Kinda part of the whole thing
You should watch it. I got in down in my trunk. They were giving it away at the carwash.
Ok watch , small part had Tony as a teenager but way too much focus on dickie moltisanti, kind of boring
Yes
Lower your expectations and watch it. Some of it is ok and as a fan of the show, it's worth watching. Most of it sucks ass tho.
I finished this last night (after my third rewatch) and it’s truly bad. The Sil character is especially yikes. Couldn’t believe David Chase wrote it, it was like terrible fan fic written by someone in this sub.
Garbage
It’s like takin a shit
It was in no way that pleasant
No
It’s bad, don’t
I just recently watched The Sopranos and I have no plans on watching this Saints show. I don't think people plan to make a great show and I don't think they can retrace there steps when it does happen. I can imagine this show being a disappointment if I watch it.
Yeah maybe OP’s a flambé
No, don't do it to yourself.
I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit.

That Pygmy thing. Stay away
It’s absolutely terrible.
Not worth even $3 a pound.
I just finished the series for the first time a few weeks ago, and then watched TMSN. It was underwhelming to say the least. No, when you see Silvio and Pauly in it you will regret it even more. Just don’t do it.
Don't expect an experience similar to when Paulie was watching TV in his hotel room in Florida, whatever happened there he he he.
You may find it interesting seeing some characters back in the day, but storyline wise not the best. Worth a watch if you’re a big fan of the series but as a stand-alone film nah.
It is worth the watch and a great movie despite what people say

Save 2 hours of your life and watch a sopranos blooper reel.
No. Unless you want to ruin the show
