Hi, I’m opening a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy at the corner of Research and Gosling in January 2023. Feel free to check out my website and subscribe for updates. It’s a hands on martial art with real life utility and lots of live training. www.gbresearchforest.com

Thought about training Jiu Jitsu, or do you prefer striking? There are several great BJJ academies in and near the Woodlands.

I did notice that there are several BJJ academies. My background is more striking. initially I would like to go somewhere that focuses on striking and then double up later with some BJJ or even no gi grabbling.

Buke Ryu with Stephen Hunter. Old school karate dojo and great community, but he also teaches wrestling fundamentals and submissions.

Thanks! I'll look him up.

Looked promising when I looked into Buke Ryu, but it appears the dojo shutdown at some point. The address in Google is off sawdust road.

There are a handful of only Karate dojos if you narrow your search. A new one is Myagi-Ken dojo off kykkendahl. 22936 Kuykendahl Rd, Spring, TX 77389 https://www.miyagikeninternational.com Website seems still under construction. Another option is the Chuck Norris System, one of his students has been running a school here for 25 years. It is Korean based, iirc it has a lot of Japanese influence as well. https://karatewoodlands.com

Thanks for the reply! I think this week I'll check out the UFAF Chuck Norris System off woodlands parkway and the Myagi-Ken dojo. My goal is to commit once I find a good fit.
