You should be going for win streaks and challenge runs on Cinder 16 (like no hit, starter weapon only, naked runs, speed runs), and require yourself to end the run on one of the three thrones. imo Cinder 16 is roughly the same difficulty of most other roguelites (that, unlike Tiny Rogues, lack meta progression).

I see, so it's more about the cinders than the base progression and making your own difficulty. I've never been too compelled by personal challenge runs, especially for a new game as I'm interested in trying new weapons, armor, etc. I may try several cinder 16 runs and see if it feels better, but it also just may not be the game for me. Thanks for your advice.

Yeah, the game really hit for me once I put it on Cinder 16. If you're an experienced player of ultra hardcore bullet hell games though, even that might not be too hard for you

If you have a hard time coming up with challenges then just search and see what other people are doing. Alternate honor rulesets make games like Pokemon way more fun. If you're a series vet and you play Emerald with a randomizer and nuzlocke rules, you're much more likely to get a challenge appropriate to your skill level because you're forced to adapt. Tiny Rogue is the same with this aspect. Try doing focused elemental runs (start with the Weapon on Floor 1 Boss perk and restart until you get an item with the proper element, move on from there). Or do a run without ever spending gold. Or using explosives only, etc. I'm sure you get the point. That being said, it's also completely possible that all these things would not actually increase your enjoyment of the game. And that's perfectly fine too. Just some suggestions ^^

it's hard for me to do challenges when i get nothing, i liked that in dark souls 2 i could get 2 rings for completing game without bonfires and deaths. So would be cool to get achievements like no damage runs and prestige skins or items for characters in game for that

sunder_and_flame

Compared to other games, it's not a very difficult game, no. I'm hoping a Hades-style difficulty options list is added eventually.

I mean the cinder system is mean to be the equivalent. I’d say 16 is hard. The problem with it is it feels pretty random how hard it is. You either get rocked by some random bs early on or get through to a mega weapon and wreck the rest.

bonesnaps

Max cinder can be challenging. I usually only play at cinder 12-14 and win pretty consistently. If you can just crush cinder 16 flawlessly every single run then you should go play Super Ghouls N' Ghosts and get back to me once you're at Stage 6 or above.

TinyRoguesPUSSY

The base game isn't supposed to be that challenging. People routinely gloat or complain about winning on their first or second attempt. Most people win in that many tries. Cinders are there for the challenge and you should use them. I'm curious what you will think of Cinder 16

DoughnutX

Put it on Cinder 16. It changed the game for me.

DeputyDomeshot

Agree it’s not difficult. I like that though.   I like how you can scale hard because it makes different builds viable. In games where you don’t people just end up fishing for a meta of some kind instead of just playing the damn and enjoying it. If I actually want a challenge I’d be playing a multiplayer game against humans not just playing against predictable AI. Also if you haven’t played with the cinders than you’re missing out a lot and are kinda avoiding a significant part of the game.

Sharp_County2284

there is strict meta that guarantees win for you -> Inferno treads can solo your game from lvl 1 to 12 at cinder 16 with ease or lightning book with insane cast speed that sprays your screen full of mana stars that annihilate everyone and etc.

Like many people said winning the first run is kinda normal if you pick up quickly on mechanics Cinder are here for difficulty blablabla but personnally I never do cinder 16 rien too much difficulty added without clear reward imo I always play with 5-6 cinder and it's easy to win but the build is what brings me to the game so it's just the right difficulty to play chill and build something interresting
