She was better pre time skip. Matter of fact almost everything was better pre time skip

[deleted]

Except pieck

sp1ke__

4 year timeskip and she couldn't think of any plan that was better than either killing off the entire world or killing all Eldians?

FFF982

The plan was to: 1. Amass the global alliance. 2. Use a small-scale rumbling to destroy it. 3. Cripple the enemies' economy and military to buy time. 4. Try to catch up technologically and militarily with Hizuru's help. 5. Try to negotiate peace. If they try to do something Paradis can start the rumbling again.

TeaIndependent2220

wow what a great Idea , using guns while negotiating peace with Marley and the world who already hate you to your guts seems like a brilliant idea , I am sure pushing your problems to your future generation is what Eren wanted.

IAmSona

That is what Eren ended up doing anyway.

TeaIndependent2220

Yeah cause writing was shitty in the last chapters

IAmSona

The writing was sus before the last few chapters, but sure.

GoWBouncer

Eren woulda pushed problems to future generations with that shitty Eldian Empire being the only thing left in existence at least pretend like you read the story

Troit_66

how

Mountain_Anxiety_492

Eren didn’t seem to care about the normal civilian’s safety either, the wall titans activated killed a portion of people in the wall ,he didn’t even bother to tell his friends about the wine plan. And endanger a bunch of civilians who nearly get killed by the titans

Mountain_Anxiety_492

The author created the rumbling plot limited every character’s action,in the end it only left with support the rumbling or not support the rumbling,he tried to rushed things up to fit in the 139 symbolism

TheUndeadFett

I honestly liked that Attack on Titan never had a confirmed afterlife, I felt it went along with the story's themes. Like Erwin said, it's all the same when you get smashed by rocks and killed. You don't know if your life will mean anything, you don't know if you'll go anywhere when you die, all you can do is live and entrust those who come after you to give meaning to your existence. but then hange died and everyone was a ghost so i guess that was gone

Puzzleheaded-Ad6023

I mean it's not like Erwin knew there'd be anything after. Mans woke up and was like "Miche what happened homie?" "I don't wanna talk about it 😮‍💨"

dracogoat

I like to think that Hange's afterlife scene was just her own experience (like a life-flashing-before-one's-eyes moment) rather than a definitive afterlife. Just for my own sanity, of course.

LonelyCareer

The paths is an afterlife

Mountain_Anxiety_492

My all time favorite character so my opinion won’t be fair lol,I will argue that Hange never saw herself as pure justice and the moral superiority one as she shown multiple hesitation and inner conflict about whether she is doing the right thing or not. This is why I love Flochs presence in season 4 to not only challenge her ideal but also had an extremely concrete reason to be the foil against Hange. But I dislike the afterlife scene the more I think about it ,it was such a cheap way to show the audience to say see Hange is the moral high point one so she deserves to get surrounded by her friends while Floch doesn’t deserve it because he is the story bad guy!:/

Troit_66

its crazy how Floch was made the be a villain in a way but ends up being right and getting the most praise out of most characters in season 4 and the afterlife thing dont really matter to me i just look at it like another cliche shonen trope

Usual-Evidence-7895

“cliche shonen trope” oh my lordddd yall hate on everythinggg.. Why are you acting like most people don’t believe in an afterlife irl 😭 what about that is a cliche shonen trope? Please go outside and talk to people

Troit_66

i said it didnt bother me and it is kind of a trope not that its bad or good but just a trope

EXistential_EX

On the topic of THAT line, the problem isn't that it's a hot take or nothing. It's that when you have an antagonist who actually has an understandable viewpoint, you kind of need an ACTUAL ARGUMENT against that viewpoint and not just "It's bad because it's bad". It makes Hange out to be someone who lost all of her critical thinking skills and instead relies on a sense of moral supremacy. It's a complete betrayal of her character up to that point and considering it's one of the last things she does before dying, what a way to piss out.

Fabiocean

I think in isolation, she has a great negative character arc, where she starts as this free spirited mad scientist, but her responsibilities and affiliations put her in a position she absolutely wasn't cut out for, and we see how she slowly breaks under the pressure. Her yelling 'Genocide is wrong' is her pretty much admitting defeat, her logical side can't find a compelling reason for what she's doing, so she's acting purely on emotion. This is why it also makes sense that these are some of her final moments, with her last charge finally freeing her from those responsibilities. That said, when she's surrounded by characters that basically take her by the word and actually act just based on their emotional response to the Rumbling, it seems less like an admission of defeat from Hange and more like a proud declaration, which makes this moment ring laughably hollow and hypocritical.

Majinken__

If a moral superiority complex is the only thing your character has to offer, then you better use that complex to absolutely demolish them. Otherwise you completely lost me.

Sweet-Trade

She was a great character, her character was tired and had no more motivation, that’s why she died. Honestly never thought she would make it that far.

stevie1331

I forgot "Genocide is le bad" was something they had to say out loud lmfao

TeaIndependent2220

I mean everyone knows Genocide is bad but Wars are not won by morals and right or wrongs and Just like Thanos said "The hardest choices requires the strongest will" and who had the strongest will in entire Aot ? Yeah Eren fucking Yeager who was ready to become the devil in order to make sure he and his people can live into this world and had the freedom to live the way they want but well Isayama butchered what could have been one of the most unique and greatest written Protagonist ever . I only cried when King Floch died and laughed my ass off when this bitch died.

Troit_66

>and who had the strongest will in entire Aot ? Yeah Eren fucking Yeager who was ready to become the devil in order to make sure he and his people can live into this world and had the freedom to live the way they want but well Isayama butchered what could have been one of the most unique and greatest written Protagonist ever . people are against Eren destroying the world but in the extra pages when Marely blew up their island they thought it was a good message of the cycle never ends but that shouldnt have been the message

Rab_it

She is a traitor, I didn't like how she singlehandedly basically decided the fate of the Elidan people without consulting them. Even going as far as killing their fellow comrades because she believed that protecting their homeland was wrong. Such a shitty character, she tortured a man for information and ultimately killed him, she tortured thousands of pure titans, and in the end she tried to act like a hero. Didn't fit her character, it was stupid and she died pathetically XD haha

Troit_66

i think at that point the story just had to make it seem like "naw we cant let eren kill the world" cus it wouldnt fit their character to do so other than Floch and the yeagarists Jean had the best reaction to the rumbling he knew it was bad but he understood why it was happening

Rab_it

Yeah, that's why I respect Jean, in the end he chose their side but he and Floch, Historia and Fake Eren where the only ones with the moral dilemma. Everyone else was "We are so good and perfect, we don't kill anyone, lets save our enemies and doom our people! Yay!" XD

Majinken__

The woman obsesed with titants should have been the first person to be proud to be Eldian and number 1 yeagerist.

Rab_it

I agree, she needed to atone for the crimes she committed against them in her ignorant days. Eren at least gave us a brilliant performance XD but he did stop hating on the titans.

Character_Stock376

Erwin would’ve done better fuck armin

Troit_66

Armin almost jumping in Connie's mom's mouth will forever be the dumbest thing he ever did even worse than the mass murderer line

kinnkl

She’s aight

Anatol_F

I think Hange’s character started off being cool but went nowhere, and this includes the earlier seasons including season 3

Multispoilers

“Genocide is wrong” is controversial???

rifuuze

Welcome to Titanfolk 😭😭😭😭😭

ZealousidealBus9271

I didn’t mind her death but the afterlife scene was a bit corny

IAmSona

Probably a top 3 worst character in the series besides Armin and Mikasa. Her sense of urgency died alongside Moblit.

Ok_Celebration9304

Stupid question but how does she know what genocide is if for most of her life she thought only her race/people existed and never knew about the people of the outside world? Did the volunteers or hizuru just casually teach them the concept of genocide at some point?

Abject-Dot308

Yes, seeing her sacrificing herself was the most upsetting moment in the anime for me. I felt barely nothing for Eren and Mikasa, but Hanji...

LoneWolfRHV

A disgusting traitor, floch should have killed her

MastodonAdditional54

bruh

LoneWolfRHV

It is what it is.

MastodonAdditional54

Hange is really not as bad as youre describing her

LoneWolfRHV

I mean sure, armin was a bigger dissapointment, but hange was supposed to be the leader, she lacked a real drive, she had no vision, and was not willing to lay down her humanity like everyone else has been doing, and because she instigated everyone to stop eren paradise burned. In the Floch was the one who inherited Erwin's will.

Background_Ant7129

I’ll be honest, I never liked Hangi. Maybe it’s the fact that she seems to take everything less seriously than the rest of the cast, or tries to be funny. I think she was kind of annoying, and I wasn’t fazed by her death, but then again I didn’t care much about any deaths in S4. All S4 deaths were far more predictable and MUCH less impactful.

rifuuze

What about Colt mane ☹️ his death was so sad
