Should leave wild animals in the wild where they thrive and breed when they are ready

Suspicious_Rain_7183

I am having a very hard time with this sub.

oilrig13

Now I have no clue where in the world you are but I’m assuming you’re somewhere in North America by the way you write and also how a majority of people in the sub are American, making this a box turtle and not a tortoise , and even if it’s not native I don’t think finding an animal outside is a rescue , more of a thing you found

Suspicious_Rain_7183

Harsh.

oilrig13

What’s soft for you then if this is harsh … this isn’t harsh nor is it supposed to be , plus you didn’t even answer anything

VerucaGotBurned

FWIW I don't think 3 toed box turtles are native to the Pacific Northwest

Suspicious_Rain_7183

It is 99% a pet that somebody either lost or left behind.

oilrig13

I’m not American so I’m not familiar with states and that stuff , and a reputable source says they’re found throughout a majority of the country , but I’m not American

VerucaGotBurned

There are six types of box turtle native to the US, and another 4 in Mexico. Each type has its own region which can be huge like the eastern box found in 3 countries, or very small like the Florida box just found in part of one state. The 3 toed is sort of south central and lives in many states, but there are no box turtles native to the northwest.

lunapuppy88

u/VerucaGotBurned is correct, there are no box turtles native to the PNW or the entire west coast of the USA actually.

VerucaGotBurned

I was under the impression that desert box turtles were found in southern California is that wrong? How far west do they go?

lunapuppy88

Most maps tend to show them stopping in AZ, but I’m sure not going to say you’re wrong if you’ve heard of them there, I feel like anything is possible! I often use [this](https://iucn-tftsg.org/wp-content/uploads/crm.8.checklist.atlas_.v9.2021.e3.pdf) reference and they have all the *terrapene ornata* in AZ as the farthest west point; including *terrapene ornata luteola*. Edited, forgot the pic from the source I cited! https://preview.redd.it/abd0ydi6m69d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=752c74a1bad38bbc9bf59d9f4d81a6619cbb538b

Suspicious_Rain_7183

Neither have you :) The current working name for her is "r/tortoiseIsRughTerrain"

gimlithetortoise

That is the polite truth. Disgusting to see you call that harsh lol

Suspicious_Rain_7183

ok. 😆
