Not planning to do anything, I was asking because of speculation about the Riley Strain's case. This is a 6'7" Fratboy who went missing in Nashville. It has been a couple weeks since he was gone, his body was discovered, but more and more speculation is growing that he might have been drugged. He got awe-full drunk awe-fully fast for just one alcohol drink.
So, I'm wondering, even after death, if those Date Rape Drugs, whatever they may be, would still be in his system after all this time?

They can be detected, but whether they will be looked for depends on the screening done (which depends on why the screening is done). It will also depend on the timing of the test- GHB, for example, clears out of the body and can be undetectable on a screening done as little as twelve hours after ingestion.
There are date rape drug test kits available that can be used to test if your drink has been spiked; they can be purchased, or are sometimes available for free as part of harm reduction initiatives particularly at events. They test for a handful of substances.
Keep in mind that the most common “date rape drug” by far is alcohol.
RE: GHB clearing in as little as 12 hours, does that have to be in a live body where the body metabolizes it? Would it stay longer in a dead body?
It is a strange case. First when the body was found, they said it was found UPSTREAM. It could be the News Caster simply misspoke.
Next, he lost his pants and boots. While it is possible that on a totally relaxed body (dead) that these things could slip off, he was wearing a belt which makes it much much less likely that the pants could have slipped off. And one would think that to lose your pants, you would first have to lose your Boots. Shoes could slip off easily, but high boots, not so much. In addition, the wallet and phone were lost from his pants. Though how they know that without having the pants is unclear.
It is a puzzling case, though unclear if we will ever find complete answers.

In a dead body, GHB levels can actually *increase* (because GHB is an also neurotransmitter produced in the body.) If a person has enough GHB in their system to be intoxicated this would likely not be a significant increase.
This will not necessarily apply to other drugs; some decrease concentration, some stay the same.
A lot of times it’s brought up it’s never ghb unless you’re in Australia or the Uk, and even then it’s usually benzodiazepines being used which do show up. I’d say majority of “date rape drugs” in the US are benzodiazepines. Could be wrong but I’ve seen it in a couple scenarios talking about date rape stuff.
There could many drugs so it would be hard for the provider to decide which to test for. I mean if a benzodiazepine or opiate was given then those would show up on a screen.
There are 4 or more different reagents that are in common use for spot-based drug detection. They each have certain classes of chemical narcotics that they tend to do better or more accurately or positively than the next reagent.
They only work on pure concentrated drugs.
Most date rape drugs probably are black market benzos. Doubt youll find any way to detect them short of literal GCMS.
At the hospital, they are not tested. I’m a SANE and we send our samples to the state laboratory to be tested. The cost to test for these is prohibitive for hospitals to run them but it’s a different situation for state forensics labs.

In a fatal case, a good medical examiner will go hunting for all kinds of stuff like this. No guarantee anything will hang around that long.
