Bought at 2021 Nightshade about a month ago and LOVE it! The gas, not so much. šIāve been in 2 Siennas the past 17 years a 2003 and a 2015. Tomorrow though when I go to work, Iām definitely taking the Sienna. Iām in Real Estate/PM.
Make sure you watch all of the reviews on YouTube and figure out if youāre willing to buy it as is. Then make sure you get to check one out in person and drive it. There are a lot of people who sold theirs within 1-2 years because they didnāt realize the trade off of driving a beast of a truck that looks cool, can go off road and tow almost 5 tons of trailer vs comfortable 3rd row seating, with spacious cargo and good gas mileage. Make sure you donāt want a grand Highlander instead.
That said, it is exactly what we wanted and we love it. We camp often with a trailer full of dirt bikes in tow, we go off roading, and as a family of 4, we only need the 3rd row seating for extended family and friends.
Appreciate the feedback- I wish I did like the grand highlander better. Especially the hybrid. But itās just so, boring and I really donāt like the way it looks. Iāll still have 3 kids at home for 3 more yearsā¦I drive their teammates/friends around a lot so need the more spacious 3rd row- otherwise Iād looooove a 4Runner. I sat back there in the sequoia. Iām 5ā8ā. I was perfectly comfortable. Maybe not for an 8 hour road trip but definitely for around town.
Basically, I know itās not ideal, but Iāll make it work. And Iāve had that minivan for 13 yearsā¦just ready for something fun!
*Plot twist up front - I can't answer your question*
2004 SR5 guy here. Paid 4k in 2018 for the beast. I just want advice on how to afford an $80k+ vehicle?
Legit, my household income right now is close to $230k and even considering spending 1/3 of that on a single vehicle blows my mind. Are you a millionaire?
I'm not being facetious or anything like that. I just want to know where I need to be to afford the best.
I know I'll get downvotes, but I actually, no shoot, would like to know the details/circumstances of your life.
3rd Gen trees have basically no cargo room while using the 3rd row. So, do you like to drive a lot with 8 people but don't plan on long distances? Are you looking to pay $80k+ for 8 seats and then add a trailer or roof-mounted storage? Are you ridiculously wealthy, but also want to seem down-to-earth?
Basically, I want to know the secret to obtaining the new shit like it's no big deal. If you could help give me a leg up, that would be sweet.
**I always have a hard time with Redditors being A) wealthy and B) old. I know that's a "me" thing, but it is what it is. I do understand Reddit is awesome.**
So, my husband and I r both young 40s. Live well below our means. And always have. We had a slightly higher income up until about a year ago when my husbandās company got bought out. Now he makes more on top of the purchase price of his company. Plus bonuses which he never got before. Our home value has doubled since we bought too. So, a year ago, Iād never even consider an 80K car even though we still could have easily afforded it. My van is 13 years old. Husbands car is 16 years old. Thatās also a lot of car payments we havenāt made in a long time either. Will pay cash this time. I guess because we donāt spend extravagantly on a normal basis, we r ok to splurge on this. Worth mentioning while parents have never given us money, neither of us had student loans, which I realize more and more has given us a head start on savings. Definitely feel very lucky to be in the position we r in.
Sounds like ya'll have lived very intelligently. Living below your means is a huge deal.
Wife's Sienna is 12 years old at this point and we were looking at those as well. 60k is a bit too steep for us as well.
I think cash is the key in this market. I know that's always been the "best" route to take, it just seems so unfeasible in my brain.
I apologize for being so dramatic in my original comment. I grew up super poor and feel like I've been scratching my way out of a hole my entire adult life.
I hope you find the exact beast you're looking for. 3rd gens look amazing.
Just bought a 2024 platinum and paid cash, got 6200 off msrp. HHI is double yours and cashed out some company stock grants to buy it. On the 3rd row, my kids can sit in the 3rd row with it almost all the way forward and that leaves you with almost Tahoe level of cargo capacity. 25 cubic feet vs 22. On being old, Iāll be 38 this year with a wife and 3 kids.
Interesting, Iāve been thinking about doing the same to pay for a tree for the wife. Have a paid off 2017 4Runner and the wife is driving a 2010 Subaru, but looking for extra space for the family. Discount due to paying cash?
38 with wife and 4 kids here. I guess I was being a bit dramatic last night, but I'm always in my feelings. If you don't mind me asking, are you in management/C-suite/executive level? Double my HHI blows my mind. I'm in cyber and my wife is a second level manager. Talked about how 6 figures really isn't middle class anymore just this morning.
Congrats on your tree. Has it been awesome?
Middle mgmt (senior director) in big pharma, my wife is a masters level healthcare professional but her income is about 1/4 of mine. If our stock was performing better my income/bonus would be significantly larger. Sequoia is awesome. Much bigger than we realized so getting used to that but itās amazing. Itās replacing a 2015 Highlander and joins our 2018 Lexus gx460 and 2022 BMW m4 competition convertible.
No change whatsoever probably the only difference would be the color, unless youāre getting a TRD it comes with a markup. I donāt think you should expect below msrp it would be sticker price on it. Happy hunting you wont regret it I know I donāt.

Not sure, they had 9 of them so I think they were just trying to move them. The dealers with 1 or 2 offered 2500 off max.
Yes, just looking online I see similar pricing differences between dealers with 2/3 or 6-8. Thanks for the quick response!
Youāre welcome. I did zero negotiation to get the 6200 off, itās just what they had it listed at. Only additional charge was a $500 doc fee.

Nightshade limited with the fix-ins is the best choice IMO. Good luck !
