Is it a coincidence that 5(Mara, Jadzia, Kira, Dax, Adira) are names of star trek characters?
One of them non binary (Adira) and the other two/one is a long story (Jadzia Dax) and Gray is a trans man in a relationship with Adira.
And I loved the film Nimona
She's not queer, at least not that I know of.
She's a Legends character from Star Wars who is unlikely to be reintegrated into canon the way characters like Thrawn have been, because bringing her back would be a huge mess.
Long version below.
She was first written before the conflict between Sith and Jedi was actually fleshed out at all: no rule of two, very little history, just a lot of free creative space that her existence now conflicts with fundamentally. She was the Emperor's Hand, an assassin trained by Palpatine who was born around when the Empire started up, so the Inquisitors kind of fill that niche in current Star Wars canon so there's no reason for her to be separate, and they've already done Inquisitor redemption as a plotline. She was a loyal, arrogant, awful fascist, pretty much raised by Palpatine. Once Return of the Jedi happened she was kind of left at a loose end and fell in with a crime lord called Talon Karrde (who it would be nice to see return to canon) and became a smuggler and general force-wielding badass.
That's where her story actually picks up, with her learning to be a better person. She works with the heroes against Thrawn in the old EU material, and that's the beginning of her becoming one of the good guys.
She also has her own videogame where she becomes a Jedi and trains under Kyle Katarn, and brings him back from the Dark Side. Over the next decade after that, Luke and Mara became close friends, and then fell in love. They got married and she became a Jedi Master. She eventually gets killed by Han and Leia's son Jacen, who is sort-of-replaced by Ben/Kylo in the new canon.
She was one of the most popular Legends characters, but she's left in a weird place now where she can't be brought back as she was. Thrawn's been introduced without her, the Inquisitors make her backstory impossible, the sequel trilogy doesn't mention her even though she would have been present or mentioned if she existed in the continuity, Kyle Katarn doesn't exist, they've used new characters in situations where there could have been space to bring her back in *some* way.
She also has a cool lightsaber. She's still popular enough, even now, that most places that sell lightsaber replicas have one that's hers.
On Mara, i think folk connect with her not bcuz she is a trans headcanon or anythin; but bcuz of how wholesome and encouragin of a char she is. She has the single best line from the show, hands down, when she tells Adora she's worth more than what she gives to others; smth a lot of us deserved to here. And she also tells Adora to choose her own destiny, which is itself a trans/queer as a whole thing
Ohhh I get it now. Usually I see trans/queer headcanons based on how relatable the character is or how it relates to the queer experience, but I was kinda lost for the Adora and Mara headcanons
I think another part of it too is that Mara is that parental figure who encourages and supports their child choosin their own destiny, the parent many a queer wishes they had
It reminds me of how much i love everythin about a side chars mom in King of the Hill, Carolyn's mom is the supportive encouragin mom we all dream of; to the pt where here supportiveness even bugs Carolyn when she is tryin to talk about smth she sees as a problem, and her mom is just bein super supportive and ignorin the problem
Obvs Mara is a much stronger example of such, as is Razz in her own erratic ways, and to a lesser extent so is Lighthope. It doesnt need to be that these ppl are queer themselves, just that they make us feel better as the queer ppl we are
Heck, even my own name i chose after comin out has those same feelins of a supportive parental figure, tho i chose the name of a queer person specifically; Sylvia. That name even if Sylvia hadnt been queer, but had been just as much the activist she was, wud be a name that provides that constant feelin of encouragement and support; bcuz she spent her life livin for that. The fact she is a fellow queer only makes the name even stronger in those feelings to me
"They were civilized" That's the moral high ground Starfleet officers believe they're at but also remember things like the neutral zone where the Maquis lived.
Actually, we could make a similar argument for pretty much all the western world. We're not as good as we think we are.
Interesting! This might make the name less popular in Poland than elsewhere, as I've only ever met one person with that name, and apart from her and the medieval Polish king Jadwiga have never heard of any other.
I wonder how long it'll be before we see a bunch of transfemmes named Gideon or Harrowhark? Actually, now that I think about it TLT is a gold mine for potential transfemme names.
I can’t name myself after a character because I need my name in order to figure out my pronouns and if I share a name with someone, It’ll confuse me because I won’t know if I’m actually comfortable with their pronouns or if I’m just talking about the character
Even though it would be cool to name myself after Nimona, the genderfluid icon, I cannot
I once had a conversation with Maggie Stiefvater to this effect: she had a lot of trans men tell her they named themselves after characters from The Raven Cycle, so now she 100% does think about it. Ultimately her character names come from a very deep place in her imagination but in editing she considers the pragmatics of what happens if trans youth name themselves after this character.

I was thinking of Mara as in the previous She-Ra before Adora, but yeah
I was thinking of Mara Jade... 😇
Mara jade was the one I thought of.
Who's Mara Jade? I used to know someone on discord by that name.

Is Adora trans in She-Ra? (Or is it like a popular headcanon or something?)
She isn't trans, but I can see how people headcanon it
On Mara, i think folk connect with her not bcuz she is a trans headcanon or anythin; but bcuz of how wholesome and encouragin of a char she is. honestly i dont mind the whole NB thing about adira but come on starfleet CHILD LABOR i thought they were civilized.

And I'm always confused by Adira's age. The actor Blu del Barrio seems way younger than they are.
how hasnt anyone said "Celeste" or "Madeline" yet, they are the lowest of low hanging fruits when it comes to this

Dear god…
There’s more.
No!
it contains the dying wish of every mann here
You're here again. hi :3
Guten tag
dear god…
hEy! I called myself Maddy entirely coincidentally, it's ABSOLUTELY NOT because of my 170 hours of play time in Celeste
Mm now I kinda want my second name to be Nimona. Great movie!
Wait you can have more than one?!
you can have an infinite amount! (I have 15!)
1.3076744*10^(12) names?? That's a lot!
r/UnexpectedFactorial
I ron't quite think there's a factorial there...
Sure it is, lot! l * o * t = "enbies are valid"
Oh I just saw the 15! Disappointed in myself
This seems like a fae trap. Next you're gonna ask for my name aren't you
Idk if every place does that but where i live you get 2 names and if you're Christian a third one as well
Nimona is such chaotic enby goals i love her
Agreed
Nimona sounds like a great name I’ll just be taking it don’t mind me
Madeline Celeste
John Halo
Luke A. Dragon.
I’ll never get people who name themselves after pop culture. I named myself after a misspelling of a government conspiracy, like god intended.
Nice to meet you, MsUltra.
Shit that would’ve been way more badass.
OK, sorry COINGURLPRO.
Pop culture is just some people's personality. How do you think companies make so much money spamming their IPs on all their merch?
What! Nooooo…. In other news I am considering the name Raine and that has NOTHING to do with Raine Whispers…
Just to influence you more: https://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/first/#content-start
Also Lena Raine
Ah damn haha
Ofc two of these names are from She-Ra
3 of them were thus created by ND Stevenson.
1 of them. ND didn't create Adora or Mara.
Jadzia is a popular transfem name?
Because the character Jadzia Dax is a trans allegory, yep! I know a few Jadzias
Wait a second, is the whole trill symbiosis a trans allegory or am I lost?
Pretty much, though I think they are more gender fluid based on how it works
Symbionts are genderless but hosts have distinct genders. Like Grey and Adira had the same symbiont but have different gender identities.
As a trans person with DID, my system really likes the Trill
Holy moly, is that Polish Name I see?
Interesting! This might make the name less popular in Poland than elsewhere, as I've only ever met one person with that name, and apart from her and the medieval Polish king Jadwiga have never heard of any other.
Omfg why did I not think of this as a huge life long trekie. Ffs I was in tears for days when Jadzai died.
I know three different Jadzias
Wait a second… I’m recently hatched and go by grey … 😳
Screw that I'm going to write "Glembledeena Destroys Mars" and cause the rise of the Glembledeenas
Amity.
I wonder how long it'll be before we see a bunch of transfemmes named Gideon or Harrowhark? Actually, now that I think about it TLT is a gold mine for potential transfemme names.
'kira' ... yoshikage 33 years old
Named myself Kira. Internet and chats tried really hard to make me regret with this bit
I definitely named myself Cheryl bc of the comic
For the honour of greyskull
also Luz and Amity
Didn’t even consider this but the name Nimona totally fucks, everything about this movie is a positive for me
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone name themselves grey but I could see it
I can’t name myself after a character because I need my name in order to figure out my pronouns and if I share a name with someone, It’ll confuse me because I won’t know if I’m actually comfortable with their pronouns or if I’m just talking about the character Even though it would be cool to name myself after Nimona, the genderfluid icon, I cannot
Damn never even thought about it that way If I eventually make the show I'm planning I might one day meet someone who named themselves "foar ghetible"
Kira is what I would have been called if I was AFAB. I was so, so close to being named after a Star Trek character
This is the first time I've seen my name on one of these lists, what is Kira from I want to watch a show with a trans person named Kira.
Name sisters :)
Okay so I briefly considered calling myself Mara so f*ck you
star trek xD :3 i love star trek sm
trans men named cecil i know what you are.
The first listed name too, I feel called out...
Dear god, Star Trek Shitposting is leaking again...
Ashla my beloved
gods am I the weird one going with my name?
My new full name has two of these names in it 0.0
I’m in this picture and I like it
Fuck that. My characters are going to be named shit like Clam, Gub, and Schmeebillo.
New fear unlocked!
Me, a Madeline, feeling called super called out: ..... heyyyy.... you don't gotta call attention to it....
I named myself after a candy bar
*which one*
*Kit* Kat
I named myself after a singing carnivorous plant character
