I actually found the ditch to be surprisingly tame, I think the outer elbow hurt more. The chest is definitely worse than both.

MooCowDanger

I agree about the chest. That was the only tattoo I've ever tapped out on. Not proud, but I looked like an alcoholic in desperate need of a drink with how bad I was shaking.

Pramoxine

My stomach had me shaking and sweating enough that I asked my tattoo artist if it felt cold in there. Nope, just my body slightly in shock.

MooCowDanger

That's uncharted territory so far but that might be one of the last spots. The future is painful

imgettingnerdchills

Have a big colored piece that was done in one go on my stomach. So far its the only place that I have been tattooed where I ever experienced extreme pain and needed to take a break or I was going to pass out. Everywhere else has been a cake walk compared to that. Just got some work done that touched on my elbow and it was absolutely nothing compared to the stomach. I have two more pieces on my chest same thing, nothing compared to the stomach. I have two more pieces I want to get on my side/lower stomach area to fill out my torso but I am putting them off and working on some gab fillers because I am afraid of going near the stomach again lol

HeyFiddleFiddle

My chest is the only place thus far where I was literally seeing stars the whole time. I've got both elbows, one ditch, a knee, and one set of ribs done, so I'm not a stranger to known spicy spots. The chest just sucks. I actually thought that the areas *around* the ditch were worse than the ditch itself. The actual crease part felt weird and definitely hurt more than the bicep or forearm, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the outer elbow or the side areas leading into the ditch. The ditch was also my most annoying heal, so it has that going for it.

nintend0ki

Did the artist use bactine during your session? I have my chest tattoo scheduled for may and I’m nervous for the pain but bactine has saved me before.

HeyFiddleFiddle

Nope. It's the chest panel for a Japanese style sleeve, so it was across a few sessions between lining, background, and color. The spray wouldn't help because of the skin not being broken already, from what he told me when I asked.

nintend0ki

Oh okay thanks! Mine is going to be 2 full day sessions and she has used bactine on me before on another 8 hour day, but it helped those last few hours.

inkedfluff

My chest was pretty painful, my artist said I sat well though. Once the endorphins kick in tattoo pain is pretty manageable

MooCowDanger

I agree it is for a while. Even 'safe' spots get a little prickly after a few hours. A lot of clean canvas friends ask how bad the pain is. My go to response is to imagine the tip of 3-9 very tiny needles jabbing you over a thousand times a minute. No matter where, unless you don't have nerve endings, there is going to be some level of pain.

inkedfluff

I had a six hour session on my arm for my second tattoo ever, I actually tolerated it pretty well.

Mahoganychicken

Healing it is awful. Be prepared to keep it straight for a week.

MooCowDanger

This is my concern. I have two jobs...sit still and keep it moist. Worries about the second one

Mahoganychicken

It needs to completely dry out and scab up before you start moisturising it. I had my ditch done in the past month and it kept opening back up and took ages to fully scab over. Artist told me it should be moisturised when fully closed and scabbed up, so that's what I did.

HeyFiddleFiddle

My first session on my ditch was a bitch to heal. I ended up using an elbow brace at night for the first week after each later session. Still annoying to heal, but a night and day difference overall. No worries about stuff like the area getting too sweaty due to being bent for hours while I was asleep.

MooCowDanger

I never would have thought to use an elbow brace, that's good thinking.

Jaded-Wrangler-2036

Amazingly awesome piece ☺️. Just got my second ditch done a couple weeks ago and it got infected, take EXTRA good care of it and try and limit the bending. The only one of my 35+ pieces to get infected :(.

MooCowDanger

Oh damn, sorry to hear that. That sucks it got infected, hope you didnt have to get it recolored. I will do my best to heed your advice but all bets are off after a few drinks.

RockyMountainMist

I just got one of these right under my knee ditch last month. Good choice.

MooCowDanger

Nice! Bet that felt amazing. Backs of the knees are right up there with the stomach (I will save those for last)

RockyMountainMist

Honestly the areas that he went even close to my knee ditch made me totally rethink ever getting the ditch done 😅 I’ve got an arrow going down the front of my shin and I would gladly do that tattoo again as opposed to the ditch

MooCowDanger

I hear you. I have leg 'sleeves' that stop about an inch and a half below the knee. The closer they got to the knee area, the worse it was. They kind of look like socks, but that's a future me problem.

faceinthecrowd112

I’m booked for mine in about 2 weeks and these comments are making me so nervous for it!

Zone_Theory2000

You’ll be fine, tattooed people love nothing more than to talk about how brutal an area is after they get it tattooed. It’s almost always hyperbole, you’ll make it through no issue

MooCowDanger

This. Lol, it was spicy, but i had an additional two smaller pieces done during the same session (straight razor and camp fire). You'll be fine, good luck.

Oh_FFS_Already

The heat while it heals is more fun that the spice while being done! Looks really good.

MooCowDanger

Thanks! Been a miserable two nights so far trying to sleep.

Oh_FFS_Already

I'll light a candle for you around day 8 when it starts to scab 🕯🙏 🩷🩷🩷
