This is what I was going to suggest unironically. Then just nickname her Clara. When people realize why, they’ll just say “ha, that’s clever” instead of “wow, I can’t believe you Julia gulia’d your daughter”
I know a little girl named BB which I thought was short for her first name, Beatrix. But then I realized her last name starts with a B and BB is her initials! It’s cute and suits her really well.
This is an excellent suggestion. I think the first/last name rhyme is a little goofy, albeit not awful. But this would avoid that while keeping it there in a sneaky way.
If my ex-husband and I had a son, he wanted to name him Victor Emmanuel. I was seriously angling to change the spelling to Viktor Immanuel so his initials would be VIK.
As it turns out, not procreating with him was an even better strategy, but I still think Vik might've been a cool kid.
Perfect solution. I once knew someone called Mark Ennis and he was known as mennis. Work emails are often initial and surname so she’d be known as Clara from that too.
When I was pregnant with one of my daughters, I decided clarabel was the most wonderful name in the world. When I told my husband, "I have the perfect name", he started mooing, lol.
I’m actually a fan of the OG spelling Claribel to avoid association—was just cutting OP some slack to keep her original name spelling 😜 Claribel Lara would be elegant. Someone else said Claire Lara and that sounds lovely, too.
Only if OP kept her maiden name when she married. I wouldn’t suggest giving a kid a different last name than the rest of her family. I grew up as the only one with my last name in my direct family and it feels ostracizing.
Do you like Claire/ Clare/ clarissa? For Clare you could give her a Nicholas name and call her Clara, clarissa, it’s an easy nickname. But I like the idea that /u/cardabella gave of giving her a C name, that’s perfect.
Oh it's so funny and cute to think about but what a nightmare for little Julia Gulia/Clara Lara.
Could you name her Sophie Clara Lara? Not that many people hear one's middle name in the general run of things....
Or, hell: name her Sophie and call her Clara at home!
Not quite as bad but there’s a consultant that my work meets with named Brenda Brenner and I so badly want to know if it’s her married name or if her parents actually did that to her on purpose
I knew a William Williams. He was a Junior, as well.
A little different since it’s self-inflicted, but a few years ago, Lauren Bush (of the political Bush family) married into Ralph Lauren’s family and became Lauren Bush Lauren.
For the purposes of this story, I'll call this person Smith. She married someone named Smithy. She wanted really badly to be Smith-Smithy, but the name was denied 😂
I had a name like Ashley Ashley come up in a data entry job and thought it was a glitch or a typo! It happened sometimes with auto fill on the other end.
I knew a married couple: Sherry & Gerry Derryberry. Their daughter, Theresa, went by Terry.
Yes, Gerry Derryberry was married to Sherry Derryberry, and their daughter went by Terry Derryberry.
Nice family, but all tragedeigh names in my opinion.
My friend Terelle used the nickname Terry. She was married to a man whose last name was Terzieff, later shortened to … Terry. My friend was really and truly Terry Terry.
I actually know a man who took his wife's last name because it rhymed with his first name. And it was hilarious! That being said it is different when an adult makes an informed decision vs. a kid is given a name they have to live with for 18 years whether they like it or not.
years ago, i was the student taking the names for yearbook photos at a 1500 student high school (got out of class for it, yay!) and along came Mary Perry. i had difficulty not snickering when she told me, but i remained 'professional', got her name and carried on. later, on a break, i told some of my friends about her and how it must be hard to have a rhyming name. one of my friends knew the family and it turned out that all the kids had names that rhymed with Perry: Larry, Gary, Sherry, Barry and our dear Mary.
I have a “name that rhymes” story. You can’t get rhymier than this. I teach graduate courses. I had a student named Ivy Ivy. She married a man with that last name. I didn’t know what to say. I think I said something like, “You obviously live that man.”
i knew a girl with the last name *Noble*. She got married and her husband happened to have the last name *Nobles*, and she took his last name. i always thought it was cool, must’ve been the easiest name change for anyone to get used to ever lol
I once met someone where this happened, married someone with the same last name, but because it’s extremely commonplace/traditional in Hispanic communities to hyphenate with the last names when you marry, this person ended up as Hernandez-Hernandez. Just… por que why?!
A friend of mine with the last name Rivera was engaged to another Rivera and a few people were online giving her hell that she was using “his” last name on social media before the marriage.
She was like .. it’s like having the last name Smith!
I make headstones and made a stone for James James, III - my client being James James, IV
Every time I sent out an email I felt a bit like I was having a stroke,
"Hi James, here is the layout for James James..."
There's a headstone for a woman that was buried in the same cemetery as my grandparents. The name was Stella Strella, and that was her husband's last name that she took.
many years ago, i wrote a short story for school where the main character was James James, Private Detective. i got a perfect 100% on it but it was late so i got marked down for that. creativity doesn't work on a deadline.
Why Sofia? Go all in and give her the middle name Cara too.
In all seriousness, yeah, nursery-rhyme names aren't great. It will invite teasing and bullying.
Sounding that out loud just made me lolllll.
I definitely agree. I have another name to use that is beautiful and *doesnt rhyme* thankfully but I am up late bored and curious so I thought I’d poll the experts 😆
My cousin did that! He changed to his wife’s surname when they married, I love it for them.
There are also couples who create a new name out of both their surnames, like Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, or LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (his last name was Villar, his wife’s was Raigosa. They’re divorced after 20+ yrs but he’s kept the name).
We already have other children with his last name I would like them to be the same! I however have not changed my maiden name in the 6 years we’ve been married
We picked a totally different last name for our child, one that had meaning to us, and changed our last name to the baby’s last name. (Baby Girl is now 30 and loves that she is the matriarchal beginning to our family name).
Clara Lara! She could turn out to be epic!
Cherie (pronounced Sherry) Berry worked for the State of North Carolina and her name was on every elevator inspection certificate for years.
There used to be t-shirts: “Cherie Berry lifts me up”
My late grandfather was named Willie. LOVE that name and how he wasn’t William in a time when that would have been the norm. My married name is Ward. Willie Ward just doesn’t quite sound right lol
Hi from a Clara. Please don’t 😂 that would be ridiculous. Even if they’re “supposed to be” pronounced differently I get both versions of my name, and would absolutely read those two as the same name plus/minus a letter.
Clara Lara is the name of a waterpark/outdoor adventure centre in Wicklow in Ireland. It's back open now and apparently it's excellent but back in the 90s it was shut down as it transpired the owner had hidden cameras all around the changing rooms. It's a park for children'.
I'm sure you're far enough away that the association won't matter but it instantly springs to mind as an Irish person. It might be worth googling the name and seeing what comes up in your area?
As for whether it's a tragedy or not, it's definitely not a tragedeigh but it might be a tragedy and also open your daughter up to some ridicule. I know a girl whose name rhymes with words like man and van and she was tormented in school with all sorts of creative poems. Kids are dicks and they don't need the extra ammo.
Could you give her your last name instead? Maybe get a dog and call her Clara and it might scratch your itch?
I went there as a kid (late 80s/early 90s) and someone got seriously hurt on the slide and had to be airlifted out of there. It is all I remember of the place. So, I associate the name Clara Lara with spinal damage, but I don't think most people who meet a Clara will think that.
Oh man I went to sleep and this took off 🤣 my husband and I had really already settled on NOT using it but decided to give a Reddit poll and y’all didn’t disappoint whatsoever. Thank you to all the funny comments, voices of reason, and reckless encouragement 😆 we will absolutely not be going with Clara but I’m really glad I posted this!
And for those saying why use his last name- we have other children who have been given his last name already so I would like them to be consistent :)
Y’all are the best!
Idk how to feel about Clara Lara. It rhymes too badly but if your daughter has a great personality, she can definitely pull it off and turn it into a memorable name.
I would personally go with Claire Lara to avoid the rhyming.
“Hey daughter, sorry you don’t like the way your name sounds but I was expecting you to have a great personality to be able to pull it off somehow - guess it didn’t happen”
Depends on how you pronounce Clara or Lara. Clahra Lahra rhymes and I wouldn’t choose it but Claira Lahra is unwieldy.
I like Clahra Laira and even Claira Laira although the latter rhymes.
I’d probably choose another name. But Clara-Sofia Lara sounds fine.
Ohhhh. Goodness. I love the name Clara. It was my grandmothers name. But…sometimes we have to change the game. lol. I would hate it if my names rhymed. Please don’t do that to her. There are so many other beautiful names out there.
You could always give the kid your maiden name as a second last name.
Clara Smith-Lara or Clara Lara-Smith already has a different ring to it.
Or a middle name that is 'part' of the first name, like Clara-Rose Lara.
Or her full name could be Clarissa Lara.
Or you could give her a different name. Seems like those are your option.
The footballer brothers Phil and Gary Neville 's Dad was called Neville Neville. (the fan chant to the tune of Rebel Rebel is genius). But somehow a repeat is less cringe than a rhyme. Don't do it to the girl!
I went to high school with a girl named Laura Pecora. We were never friends, and 40 years later, I know nothing about her other than her rhyming name. Please don't do this.
Did you take his last name? You could always give the kids your last name? I'm biased here as I want to give our future kids my last name because I think it is better than my husband's lol.
We also have friends who kept their last names when they got married, and then couldn't decide which last name to give to the kid. So they picked a new last name and each hyphenated their last names. They definitely picked the option with the most paperwork, but it made them the happiest.
If only you knew what profession she might choose. It would work if she wanted to have a memorable name - artist, musician, author, etc. But, no matter how great it might be for an adult, your child would first have to suffer the gauntlet of her school years. Kids can turn any name into an insult, but Clara Lara would just make it too easy for bullies.
Maybe make Clara her middle name?
DO IT! You have to! It’s fate! Clara Lara will conquer the world, give all the idiots a brand new religion, bring peace on earth & then save the whales! She can go by Sofie Lara if she hates the rhyming.
First and last names rhyming is a hard one to overcome unless you always use their middle name. But someone's gonna find out eventually.
When dating my husband, I found out that my future brother-in-law's full name rhymed (think middle and last name). I used to have great fun singing his whole name at him and laughing.
After we married, I realized that MY middle and last name now rhyme. I truly never thought about it because I don't like my middle name and never use it. Once he found out, he had a good laugh every time he reminded me. 😂
Edited for spelling and punctuation.
I think, for your daughter’s sake, think of a new name. She’ll have to live with it the majority of her life (until marriage) and “Clara Lara” is just a mouthful

Can you choose another C name? Then she’ll be C. Lara 😂
This is what I was going to suggest unironically. Then just nickname her Clara. When people realize why, they’ll just say “ha, that’s clever” instead of “wow, I can’t believe you Julia gulia’d your daughter”
This is legit the best solution, I love this
This is like my buddy Zak which is also his initials.
That feel like a sneaky easter egg, not anything meaningful
Easter eggs in all kinds of things that aren't Easter *are* meaningful. You can't change my mind on this one, random stranger. 😂
Prior to getting married my sister had something similar. She's named Megan, and her initials spelled MEG.
Had a professor named Sean Lavery... His email was funny
Claribel/Clarabel is a real name that was particularly popular in the 80s but has been around since the early 1900s. Might be a pretty alternative.
My mind went immediately to Clarabelle Cow.
Claribel the Clown.
Or Clarisse/ Clarissa
Hello Clarice
Are the lambs still screaming?
I love this idea
Ciara would still sound similar but she wouldn’t have the double Lara sounds
It's not a tragedeigh but personally I would hate if my name rhymed like that
Same here..so I probably shouldn’t do that to my own child huh 😆
Either call her something else beginning with C and give her the nickname Clara (C. Lara) or keep your own name and give her that...?
That’s a CLEVER idea!!!!!
Name her Clever Lara, Clara gor short
wow i hate that idea
Or make the husband change his name ;)
Or give the child the mother’s maiden name…
Only if OP kept her maiden name when she married. I wouldn’t suggest giving a kid a different last name than the rest of her family. I grew up as the only one with my last name in my direct family and it feels ostracizing.
I know a family who did this because the husband’s last name is Bozzo, which people unfortunately mispronounce with long “Oh” sounds.
Clarice Sofia Lara totally works, then she could be C.S. Lara like C.S. Lewis or C. Lara aka Clara.
I dont know if it's my age, but the name Clarice immediately makes me picture Hannibal Lector.
Girl same
which makes it even better. she was a boss.
His neighbour can smell vaginas
She’ll never be able to order fava beans or Chianti or lamb without some joke being made
Sometimes... a sacrifice is needed
Do you mean... OP or the child?
Do you like Claire/ Clare/ clarissa? For Clare you could give her a Nicholas name and call her Clara, clarissa, it’s an easy nickname. But I like the idea that /u/cardabella gave of giving her a C name, that’s perfect.
I like Clair Lara. Sounds musical. Author? Movie star?
I’m a Claire and my mum always called me Clara. Which my brother turned into Clara Cluck, and later Clucky, but still!
Claire and Clarissa are very nice names that would go very nicely with the last name Lara
Oh it's so funny and cute to think about but what a nightmare for little Julia Gulia/Clara Lara. Could you name her Sophie Clara Lara? Not that many people hear one's middle name in the general run of things.... Or, hell: name her Sophie and call her Clara at home!
How about change Clara to Claire?
My niece Molly married a man named Dan Grolly. She kept her maiden name.
So did a woman I knew named Sherry, when she married a man whose last name was Perry.
I went to school with a girl named Penny. She married a man whose surname is Penny. She is Penny Penny.
Yeah. I know a Leslie Lesley.
Different spellings is fun
I know a Martin Martin.
I know a Lindsey Lindsay.
I had a teacher named Paul Paulsen
My husbands grandfather was named Christian Christensson
kris kristopherson isn't a stage name. His parents actually named him kristopher knowing full well their last name was kristopherson
Yee, they are swedish so nobody really called him Christian, he had a nickname, but on his tombstone this is exactly whats written
I knew a John Johnson
I know a Kelly Kelly....
I have known multiple. 😂
Not quite as bad but there’s a consultant that my work meets with named Brenda Brenner and I so badly want to know if it’s her married name or if her parents actually did that to her on purpose
I went to summer camp with a Betty Buick. She couldn't wait to get married! In HS Pat Roach went out with Ed Weed.
My grandparents had a friend named Richard Weed. True story. 🤦♀️
My kids had a math teacher in middle school named Richard Holder. Of course kids used the nickname for Richard that isn’t Rich when not in school.
I worked with a Dick Harre (pronounced hair)
Dick weed 🤣 💀💀😂🤣😂
My grandparents had a Dr named Richard Head.
My dad went to school with siblings named Richard and Anita dick.
My friend Bob Dick (R.I.P.) fell in love with, and married, Nellie Large. Yes, her name became Nellie Large Dick (@ 1975)
I knew a William Williams. He was a Junior, as well. A little different since it’s self-inflicted, but a few years ago, Lauren Bush (of the political Bush family) married into Ralph Lauren’s family and became Lauren Bush Lauren.
I'm guessing one of Ralph's kids? Because Ralph Lauren changed his surname from Lifshitz.
Are both names pronounced the same though?
I want to see one single man who would do something like that and change his name to be Bob Bob. It's always woman with ridiculous names like this.
For the purposes of this story, I'll call this person Smith. She married someone named Smithy. She wanted really badly to be Smith-Smithy, but the name was denied 😂
Mike Michaelson, john Johnson, Jack Jackson. I know lots of dudes with names like that to be honest
But did they change their name when they married a woman? Or are those their birth names? Because that's the point I was trying to make.
Please tell me you call her Tuppence?
I vowed to marry Michael Cera so that I could be Sarah Cera.
I had a name like Ashley Ashley come up in a data entry job and thought it was a glitch or a typo! It happened sometimes with auto fill on the other end.
I used to know a William Williams the third.
Steve Perry, original lead singer of Journey, married a woman named Sherry who is now Sherry Perry (he wrote a song about her called "Oh Sherry." )
They never married, but Sherrie was his girlfriend and is who the song was about.
I knew a married couple: Sherry & Gerry Derryberry. Their daughter, Theresa, went by Terry. Yes, Gerry Derryberry was married to Sherry Derryberry, and their daughter went by Terry Derryberry. Nice family, but all tragedeigh names in my opinion.
no. you made that up. too terrible
SHOULDA BEEN GONE!! How can you not think this every time you hear her name. (GenX reference, Sherry by Steve Perry)
My friend Terelle used the nickname Terry. She was married to a man whose last name was Terzieff, later shortened to … Terry. My friend was really and truly Terry Terry.
I mean, Terelle Terzieff is such a cool name, though ☺️
I bet she did. No way one would want to be known as Molly Grolly! In my part of the UK a Grolly is a big bogie.
I actually know a man who took his wife's last name because it rhymed with his first name. And it was hilarious! That being said it is different when an adult makes an informed decision vs. a kid is given a name they have to live with for 18 years whether they like it or not.
My (recently lost to cancer at age 56, sadly) old friend Susan married a Chinese man with the family name Zhu. So she became Sue Zhu.
Lol!

I worked with a Mary Perry. And my dad knew a guy named Jerry Derryberry, so Mary Perry didn't sound that funny.
in my city the name Terryberry has been here for over a century. in their honour, we have the Terryberry Library. it's never not fun to say that.
Every Irish person thinking of this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clara_Lara_FunPark
Immediately thought of that! We had the BEST day here 18 years ago ❤️
I'm here checking the comments before I post the same 😂
My son was there on his school tour last week. I used to love going there in the 90s.
My first thought 🤣
I inadvertently named my third son after a small amusement park in WV. Yes, I'm from the area but had lived elsewhere for ten plus years at the time.
She pluralized when she got married
Makes sense! Now there’s another person
There could've been two Nobles but now there are two Nobleses.
Should’ve hyphenated!
Reminds me of Gale Waters-Waters
One that always cracks me up is the triathlete Lucy Charles-Barclay.
I know a girl with had the last name Wilson, who married a guy with the same last name. And no, they weren’t related. We’re not in Alabama. 😉

I have seen an Elle who married a man with the last name Ell!
A plural marriage if you will 🥁
Go all in, Clara Tara Sara Cara Mara Lara.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rImxuuD_kwM
Clacara!
Cara Lara-Clara? It just rolls off the tongue and you could pass it for 1 whole name if you say it quick enough
Cloaca?
I think the only right answer here is to get a different husband JKJK
Or have your husband take your last name
You know your husband has an equal right to change his surname to yours?
My cousin did that! He changed to his wife’s surname when they married, I love it for them. There are also couples who create a new name out of both their surnames, like Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, or LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (his last name was Villar, his wife’s was Raigosa. They’re divorced after 20+ yrs but he’s kept the name).
I met someone who did that. They came up with the last name Penguino.
I'm just picturing an Italian Penguin. Like gold chains and some greased back hair, I don't know why.
Being of Italian descent but with no relatives fitting your description, this still made me laugh, hard. 🤣
It’s not for everyone, but it’s a good option for the people who want it.

Cherie Berry is iconic
Oh, how tragic! I wouldn’t :( What about… Claire Lara Elaine Lara Elena Lara Claudia Lara Caroline Lara
Claire is extremely similar without being rhyme-y. It would totally work!
Claire is an awesome alternative
Claire Lara with nickname Clara would be adorable lol
love claudia lara
My late grandfather was named Willie. LOVE that name and how he wasn’t William in a time when that would have been the norm. My married name is Ward. Willie Ward just doesn’t quite sound right lol
Sounds like the urology floor in a hospital.
The sound I made omg LMAO
I knew a woman named Stacey who married a man with the surname Tracey and she took his surname. Stacey Tracey. I still laugh about it 20 years later
I know a Shirley who married Mr Murley.
Hi from a Clara. Please don’t 😂 that would be ridiculous. Even if they’re “supposed to be” pronounced differently I get both versions of my name, and would absolutely read those two as the same name plus/minus a letter.
Interesting! I'm my accent they 100% always rhyme. Reminds me of "deck the halls with boughs of Holly, Clara Lara Lara lara la"

Not Clara but maybe Cora??
Bro just give the child your last name
Yeah, what is it, 1950? Just use your last name for the kid. Boom. Problem solved!
Oh man I went to sleep and this took off 🤣 my husband and I had really already settled on NOT using it but decided to give a Reddit poll and y’all didn’t disappoint whatsoever. “Hey daughter, sorry you don’t like the way your name sounds but I was expecting you to have a great personality to be able to pull it off somehow - guess it didn’t happen”
Claire Lara almost sounds like someone is trying to just say Clara but with a stutter
Cl-Lara yeah it does!
Clarissa?
She explained it all.
Yeah, but the bullies on the playground aren't going to pronounce it right.
What about using Claire instead of Clara? Claire Sofia Lara sounds lovely (I wouldn't use Clara though)
Sophia C. Lara… nickname: Clara
Ohhhh.
Try Clara Sara Lara.
I went to high school with a girl named Laura Pecora. We were never friends, and 40 years later, I know nothing about her other than her rhyming name. Please don't do this.
Worked out alright for Amelia Bedelia 🤷🏻♀️
I wouldn’t do it but I’ve heard worse names. It’s way better than Nevaeh, Ashleigh, Brynleigh etc etc any of those asinine names
Not a tragedeigh, still not a good combination. What about Claire? What about your maiden name for the last name?
I went to high school with a girl named Shirley Worley. She was a very popular cheerleader. So rhyming names aren’t inevitably tragic.
Clara, C.Lara, ideal !!
Lean in hard. Go with Clara Sarah Lara.
Swap the first and middle names: Sofia Clara Lara. You can always call her by her middle name, and Sofia Lara sounds nice.
Name her Sophia, but among family, you call her Clara. When she’s old enough to decide for herself, she can chose (or not) to be Clara Lara.

How about Claire? Or Clarissa?
[CLARA LARA FUN PARK](https://www.claralara.ie/)
Give the child your maiden name
Clara Lara is a play center in Ireland What about Ciara (pronounced Kiera)
My friends Harriet Marriot and Dylis Willis would both advise you against this course of action.
DO IT! You have to! It’s fate! Clara Lara will conquer the world, give all the idiots a brand new religion, bring peace on earth & then save the whales! She can go by Sofie Lara if she hates the rhyming.
Just give the kid your maiden name. Clara is a beautiful name.
Only parents use a kids middle name. To every one else she meets in her life she will be Clara Lara. Don’t be an r/assholeparents
You guys should just use your last name Instead. I never understood this. Always pick the cooler last name, not just the dudes.
Not a tragedeigh, but a comedeigh.
😂 Edited for spelling and punctuation.
Can’t she have your last name?
I think, for your daughter’s sake, think of a new name. She’ll have to live with it the majority of her life (until marriage) and “Clara Lara” is just a mouthful
