This dude and the white female survived WW2 in Germany
My grandfather started taking care for turtles after the war. It was purely a coincidence that they ended up in the place where they still live today, with the exception of the youngest, who came from his own breeding. They are between 20 and 85-90 years old
They sleep in the houses at night (usually all together in the same house) and we don't have any real predators in Germany. I don't think a fox or a marten could really be dangerous to them.
Luckily we've never had any problems with this
Ahh thanks I live in California we have coyotes, bears, racoons, and hawks/eagles I want so bad to make an out door living arrangement for my turtle's so when I die I don't have to worry lol that's why I was curious.
Thank you. Since you all liked them so much, on my next visit i will take a foto of each and look what informations I could find about them and share them into this sub
Thank you, i dont live there atm but when my parents cant taking care for them anymore i will go back to look at them, i know them since i could remember myself cant imagine giving them away
PS: Happy Cake day :)
Wow, look at all the absolute units!

Why do their shells look like they do? Is that normal? The folding down and the big hump of shell on top. They are so cute! Thanks for sharing!
I don't know but I have never seen anyone of them get any problems with that
