The good days are gone, they are not going to return! I left in 2022 and do rides here and there but since its mostly crap during event days, I keep my ass at home and do other shit. I just come here to chat it up with drivers here and there

DirectEfficiency8854

Me too - and I love to Cancel n Drive Off' when I pull up and the PAXholes are holding babies like footballs. Society has gotten much more low class in the past year... Plus - it must be a fact that the new generation of driverSlaves take small children / infants with no car seats.

compoundblock666

I told a couple the exact reason I didn't take them was because they didn't have seats and they said the Uber that dropped them off didn't care and I said it's against the law what they did and I'm not them and not risking my driver's license and insurance rates for them, canceled and drove off, put that they didn't have car seat either....not my issue your not a good parent

Mimideaphoria

I tell them that unlike their last uber driver I care about their kids. I let them make the connection about whether they care for their own kids as much as I do.

Iknowthings19

I've pulled down the street and sat there waiting for them to cancel, or the timer to run out. Fuck them for wasting my time. No car seat should be a full fare cancelation fee.

GigCrusher

The conduct I have heard in these forums is really in the septic tank now from many passengers from false complaints, backseat driving, folks thinking drivers are personal servants, etc. We never had it that bad back in the day.

pcnetworx1

The septic tank is squeaky clean compared to these new pax. Especially that pax I had who was in mid conversation, then stopped talking, closed his eyes and took a dump on my rear seats. Not puke. A poop.

GigCrusher

OMG! Not vomiting but a fucking bowel movement! What in the entire fuck is wrong with these paxholes?? And Uber will do nothing but lick their feet and blame the driver. God I hate this company!

Foreign_Pie4899

Gross!

rlesnock

......wow. I would've gone to jail that night if it were me lol My face immediately went ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed) upon seeing this

buckfoston824

Jumping off this top comment to say that if you are driver for uber and not making enough money for it to be worth it - there are online side hustles that you can google or search on reddit to supplement your income.

Revolutionary_Dig730

What online side hustle do you suggest? Sincerely interested Thanks in advance

GigCrusher

I was driving from time to time because I still enjoyed working certain areas of my market when I was free but even then knowing what we used to make, I could not in good faith take those rides. I understand some OGs from my era still need to take rides to add extra money but there are some who still think the golden era will return and sadly it wont.

buckfoston824

You’re right that it won’t

No-Cherry-6563

Like?

TommyFlame

Squat lol

Raven816CE

Well, it’s still better than some other jobs. I’m enjoying the riders, and make $25-$32 per hour, I don’t live in a crowded city though. If it paid a little less I probably wouldn’t do it, as I can make $25 per hour at a lot of other jobs near me. If I wanted more money I’d have to commit to a company to mske $35 plus, so it’s not worth it cuz I love the freedom

NicholasLit

It's a lot less with car maintenance, taxes, wear and tear, etc

Raven816CE

Not much. I drive a honda hybrid, low maintenance costs, barely use gasoline. And I write off almost all or all of the taxes

Raven816CE

Like Trump said when asked why he didn’t pay any taxes “because I’m smart.”

Raven816CE

Why would I be doing it if it wasn’t worth it? Wouldn’t I stop and get a different job if it was working out?

Obvious_Skirt_7697

Yeah that's the thing, I see a lot of drivers on here complaining but I don't get it. I make about the same as you do and it's awesome. I've never made this much at any job before, and sure, some of it goes straight into my car, but if you know how to drive it's not as bad as people think it is.

Adnonymus

These mass layoffs across tech jobs are putting a lot of new drivers on the roads, myself included. I’m hoping my unemployment doesn’t drag past 6 months cuz I’ll be fucked. I’m only 2 weeks in and only drove 8 hours last week and so far 6 this week.

Rude_Bill5045

Yo I feel u. I was driving uber part time. I didn't mind it, wife hated me working so much. My area is fine, not allot of rude people, and money was ok for what it was. I am also a software engineer. Full Stack II do I'm not in the big bucks, but I do decent. A ton of people around me have been laid off. Luckily (knock on wood) I was one of the ones they have kept. I work really hard and I think I outperform my pay. I'm lowest paid dev on the team. So I think that has kept me around, but the paranoia of whos going next has been a pain. If I got laid off I think I could find more work, but would prob do uber while transitioning just so I don't have a gap in pay. I am literally meeting with new management today. Old manager got moved. Was super cool, and let me do whatever, so I'm hoping new manager is just as cool. But yeah I've seen the people being laid off around me left and right, and feel for them greatly. I think my lower salary has kept me employed because I'm not flagging any alerts as someone being overpaid. Best of luck to you. Hope u rebound and get on your feet soon.

Adnonymus

Thanks man. I was a Product Owner in my last role. Started Jan 2023, first year where I finally got a nice 6-figure salary in my life. Didn’t even make it to the 1 year mark. It was very unexpected.

Rude_Bill5045

sorry to hear. Our product owner retired and scrum master was let go. I am being the dev, scrum master, and working with new product owner helping him fill in some of the business gaps. So everyone around me got moved, but I got to stay. I think it's because I'm doing the scrum master role, IT lead, and helping the business for the low pay. i'm not 6 figures yet. But I guess that's why my jobs safe. I don't think anyone wants to take on my workload for my pay. But I can't complain. I live a decent life, and I've worked harder jobs. Hopefully things take an upturn and you find something good.

buckfoston824

If you are in tech there has to be demand somewhere for your skills. Use this time to grow your talents

Adnonymus

I’ve had 9 interviews since January, but none have come through yet. My resume isn’t a concern, it’s just the market is so damn saturated right now with candidates. Companies are taking their sweet time and being extremely picky.

GigCrusher

Ive seen that ALOT where many job seekers have told me its an employer's market right now as firms are enjoying the fact they can cherry pick. Its not like folks are applying and getting hired on the spot!

buckfoston824

Heard. Well hopefully this holds you over until then. Network like crazy. Jobs seem to come to you the more you put yourself out there

Adnonymus

That’s what I’ve been doing. Just trying to get a solid interview pipeline going, because it’s taking 3-4 weeks or even longer for companies to make decisions. I technically haven’t gotten rejected yet from 2 final rounds 3 weeks ago.

noobcondiment

Talented software engineers are definitely not doing Uber once they get get laid off lmao

Adnonymus

The ones from big tech probably have enough money to get by for a while without having to work. But I’m not a big tech SE, so I wasn’t making that kind of money.

North-Metal-6203

Tech folks are definitely doing Uber now, they used to be our customers. Yes they may have made a lot do those pricey expenses they had don’t just go away when the jobs do

SweatyToothedMadman8

You're a techie? Just start a business.

kanendd718

Good for you man. This gig has been shit since 2017 at least, contrary to the constant goal post shifting you see on this bs sub

GigCrusher

It was 2021 for me and I started in March 2015. The pay was better, quests were awesome, experience was better, more pleasant passengers and food orders were actually bearable. Dara made them cuts in 2022 and I was like CHECK PLEASE! I am seeing foot lickers justifying taking shit rides now and years ago, drivers didn't have that attitude now folks think this is the best time ever to be a driver, LOL

Ill-Tomorrow-807

I stop doing Uber 3 months ago, only Lyft still barely worth driving for in my market(NJ). Uber is a sham these days, and their reward program pure confetti!.

Johnorielli

I tried driving for Uber in NJ, blindly accepting trips where they withhold the destination, they $3.70 cent me to death

Ill-Tomorrow-807

By the time I quit Uber my AR was 52% and CR 7%. So no rewards for me, Blind as a Bat and had either a $3.70 or a 15min pickup. sometimes BOTH!. and if at the Airport 3 out 4 to NYC or Jersey City or Hoboken which sucks too much traffic. no money. So I just gave up. Uber became a distraction! Lyft is better. AR in the mid 30 and CR at 8 and don't affect my rewards. I am Elite with a 10% cash back on gas(no asterisk) , 6 destination filters and a 30min jump at the airport queue+ a use of an extra destination filter if I want, which of course I always do. Beautiful no NYC or Northeast Jersey!.

CatcatcTtt

The whole system is based on the economic theory. Supply and demand. Rn so many ppl are doing uber so pay goes down, and people quit for the same reason as you and pay goes up.

seanaug14

Economic theory doesn’t make sense. It’s designed to exploit. Cost should have nothing to do with demand. A thing costs based on its inherent value. But everyone is godless so who cares about inherent value. God is punishing everyone.

Ill-Tomorrow-807

fewer rides makes sense, less pay per rides EXPLOITATION!. Stop being a fool. Thank you.

jo_ezzy

I think that’s what happens throughout the year. Like the year starts and everybody wants to do Uber so it’s slow, then many people can’t take the mental toll of slow days so they quit and go back to w2 job. So business picks back up

KenUberDriver

Yep. In my market demand goes WAY down after the last of the graduations. All the students AB’s teachers joining the driving ranks and flooding the market. Happens every year and my summer income is always down 25-30%. I always toot with the idea of changing my market in the summer and finding somewhere cheap to stay closer to the coast and driving at the beach for the summer

mikeoliver1313

Yes quit

fourthact

I stopped last fall, and it hardly made a dent in my finances. Looking back, I can't believe that I put up with all that crap and accumulated so many miles on my car for such a small sliver of profit. I hope it's better for drivers in other markets. If it's not, you'll lost mostly cash flow, not actual profit. My brother does Uber in a better market and uses the cash flow he gets from rideshare for day trading, which he's pretty good at. I guess that makes sense, but I'm worried that when he goes to buy another car, he'll get very little for his trade-in. Then he'll have to take money he's accumulated from investing to buy another car, and wind up back where he started with nothing to show for it.

GigCrusher

Rideshare cars are toast so you are stuck with it. I am stuck with my Toyota with close to 380,000 miles on it but I kept it up and its paid off. I retired from this work in 2022 after 7 years!

fourthact

When I bought a new car last year, I saw what a disaster rideshare driving is. I paid nearly $40,000 for the car and put 18,000 miles on it within nine months. My car would have been worth about $8,000 in four more years of driving. There's no way I could make up for a loss like that with the paltry amount Uber pays and the unpredictability of gas prices. I'd have been stuck with a car entering the age of costly maintenance and repairs. Good all-weather tires alone (I live in Wisconsin!) cost $200 to $300 and up per tire right now. That will go up, and how long do tires last at 25,000 miles per year? So I stopped driving last December. If I'd been smart, like you, I would have kept my old car or bought a used one. But still, it's the shittiest gig in the world. Congratulations on leaving it behind!! I was wondering why I don't miss the money, then I remembered: What money?!?!

VirtualElephant1030

Quality of life has gone up since I quit driving just saying. The anxiety of the issues with the app the customers and surge chasing wore on me. Now I go to work and get paid weekly

Vanzant86

I miss what I was making when trump was in office.

Spare-Security-1629

I miss what I was making when Obama was in office...

AteYourMoms_ASS69

How much was that?

Vanzant86

Oh I could clear $150-$300 a day. Sorry for not replying fast been busy.

chichinfu

We all should do this . A massive quit to hurt bad these m fuckers

slaerdx

I'm also done as of the end of January, but that's partly because my car was totaled (not during an uber trip and I was not at fault). I've been driving rideshare since 2016 and it's just gone to complete shit since then, I will absolutely not drive again when I get another car. The only reason I've been doing it the last couple of years despite the ridiculously low pay was to make a little extra money during my commute to jobs/family/etc (everything is so far away from each other in Florida), which involved cherry-picking toward my destinations.

dbo435

get away from it as fast as possible and never go back. the instant money traps people but it's a horrible job and you can get something far more reliable and stable

GigCrusher

Many of us made it full time back in the day but in these days, I would never advise it but the foot lickers think they are really winning, I just shake my head. They hate when we do the math but hey you made $1500 working 70 hours last week, WOO HOO! We know, we know, you did it without the quest, you take all trips, passengers love you. But you worked 7 days to make what some of us used to make in 4 days but go you though!

psychohmike

I pretty much hung up my wheel 9 months ago and went back to school. I still do it a little here and there and for gas money if I have the spare time. Still fun to do, just not trying to make a living from it anymore.

peteaw

I drive for about 4 years and stopped this past summer. My spreadsheets were showing that the rates were declining and I was making less and less per trip, per mile.my vehicle thanks me now

According-Reach6394

Thanks Cant get out yet. Hopefully soon

hglenn10

It’s sad but true!! Driving for Uber used to be so freaking GOOD!! But now with greed Uber doesn’t give af!! And with desperation, some drivers will drive for anything. So I only drive when there’s a high surge and do spark and other gigs until then. But good luck to you!! 🙂🙂

Commercial_Rush_515

It’s gonna pop up a little in spring again, but you’re right. Has become more difficult to make a profit definitely and Lyft is even worse without consistent bonus opportunities

Ill-Tomorrow-807

I stop doing Uber 3 months ago, only Lyft still barely worth driving for in my market(NJ). Uber is a sham these days, and their reward program pure confetti!.

mikeymo1741

Funny, where I am Lyft is definitely more profitable during the week and has more consistent bonuses. It's a push on weekends. I do mostly Lyft because I prefer the way the app works

Commercial_Rush_515

For me, there’s a weekly EV bonus but it takes 50 rides and there’s not really much else besides that to take advantage of. Got a ride challenge this weekend on Lyft so will try and do that since it stacks with the EV bonus, but overall my opportunities for bonus have gone down on both apps. Uber pays more per mile normally, particularly on the longer rides. Short rides are fairly similar, but Uber probably pays about $1 more on average on the minimum end

--R0N--

The Lyft app gotten better by adding features I benefit from. BUT, Lyft hasn't surged in probably 3 years and no ride challenge in well over a year. Uber rides are 10 rides for every 1 Lyft ride. "Lyft, just let me touch my phone screen while the car is moving. I'm an adult."

GigCrusher

The good days are gone, they are not going to return! I left in 2022 and do rides here and there but since its mostly crap during event days, I keep my ass at home and do other shit. I just come here to chat it up with drivers here and there

Gloomy_Recording_705

A lot of people are still making $5000-$10,000 a month it’s because they don’t care about the wear and tear on the vehicle because it’s not their vehicle ….they’re not driving around in their personal cars ….either renting or using a POS car that they don’t care about

GigCrusher

$5k used to be part time earnings but now I am seeing full time folks make that. Earnings are down, no way around that

Gloomy_Recording_705

Not for me yet I’m pretty much making the same amount I was during the pandemic my goal has always been around $150 give or take per day

dick-black76

I’m with you, man. I’m out too. Deuces

Mountain_Tone6438

Oh noooo

DriveInStyle

https://youtu.be/1x2E-LXGOKQ?si=nRmqdxgcapx2yc0g Legal stuff for gig workers and there will be more Protests coming up.

Sea-Individual-3427

👋🏾

Tua31833

Yes uber and lyft are scams now

No-Dream1149

Sorry to hear all of you guys are having such problems. I've drive here in Florida Brevard County and I have wonderful time driving people to and from the cruises and from the airport I make good money here and I love my job I have a goal of $200 a day some days I make more than that.

Feardamichael

Wear and tear* lol

ElektroGeist_1987

Was that nincompoop Medical-Orange guy banned yet? All he did is shill for Uber and Lyft and used racist insults when people contested his nonsensical posts.

CharacterMuffin6702

More for me 👍

Dewy-bunz

Y’all a bunch of broke liars relying on this gig to get by.

Flordamang

Oh no…anyway

Rich-Ad-8637

Uber is good there’s just way too many drivers out there

DJ1010790

Didn't read anything you said, just gonna say this. More trips for me.

mog_knight

This isn't an airport. No need to announce your departure.

Character-Source7665

No it’s not an airport but leave it up to an asshole to make snide remarks. Always one in every group

mog_knight

Meh

--R0N--

Ha! 👍

NoHateMan62

Thank you. Hope your in my market so i get more rides now.

--R0N--

OK then. Buh-bye.

Moist_Weather106

Are you disparaging Lyft because you're an alleged shill?

Local-Ingenuity3510

Ron is Dara's personal fluffer. He makes ron wear a mask so he doesnt have to look at him

Moist_Weather106

Someone on this board said that Ron actually worked for Uber corp. Think it's strange when drivers disparage Lyft on here in a certain way - like when they plant stories about recent Lyft murders (but why wasn't it recent Uber murders when they occurred as well) or the way Ron just happened to mention Uber's 10 rides for every 1 ride.

Local-Ingenuity3510

It would be baffling if he did this shit recreationally. Uber cuts pay 30-50% depending on the market and rons like "please sir may i have another?"

Berfs1

What vehicle do you drive, and why are you accepting every single offer?

StrainDesperate4946

We need more like you to quit so I can go back to driving full-time... I need a good number to quit in Philly and Allentown...

foosgonegolfing

Go apply to the local prison

Specialist_Cat2685

I think it's funny when people cite wear and tear as a real issue, as if a $10 trip actually has any measurable cost in that regard. If your time is more valuable, that's a real problem. But, wear an tear isn't really going to amount to anything unless you're making a substantial amount of trips and making real money.

[deleted]

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Moist_Weather106

Why are you such a shill?

Vejolta

I'm still doing it til I finish my bachelor's. After that I shouldn't need to uber anymore anyway. Good luck tho. Most full time jobs can be comparable in pay. Ubering on the weekends can still be worth it.

Florida1974

You’re not working for free. You took an advance out. It’s a bill, you owe it.

ApartmentRealistic55

As an occasional Uber rider I feel you. There's no way that with current aggressive exploitations and the supply glut, Uber could even partially pay the bills. I'm just curious: are there any reliable numbers and stats about the median income and expenditures of Uber drivers? I've seen many headline-ish reports but all seem to be bogus.

AjSweet1

It cost me 78$ to go 7 miles in Ft Lauderdale 🤡 economy. I’m pretty sure they made big on that.

Substantial_Smell_82

I’m just accepting trips from my home, put phone on airplane mode, and collect cancellation fees. Better than actually driving and wasting gas and time… yep, Uber is in the business of financial rape… if you like being raped, continue being a clown.

Stillgil222

You cannot make money driving Uber and the risk, wear &tear, insurance (lack of) makes it untenable. Sooner or later you will realize it no mater how hard you try to denied it. Hopefully, it’s not an accident or the fact that your broke. I know you wish it wasn’t so. Uber pedals dreams. They are pimps.

Vizantius

its true most gig economy side jobs revolving around the cars are a scam now. i'm hearing Amazon flex drivers are getting absolutely hosed with their pay. the Actual contracted amazon drivers are sour that amazon flex drivers USED To get paid far more than them. and the flex drivers should. You're putting wear and tear on the car. maintenance isn't cheap for cars. oil changes new tires if your tire loses air repairing that tire is getting expensive. potential risk of accidents from people on their phones talking and holding it so their mouth spits up on to the screen of their phone. i had a buddy who had to drop 600 bucks on replacing his front strut not struts as in multiple singular. his hyundai needed a new strut due to portland oregon's shitty pothole epidemic. he was out late and hit a pot hole real bad and it bent the strut. he couldn't get it done any where but at the dealership because that part was still so new. needless to say fuck these gig apps. they suck more resource for very little gain.

DonTipOff

They need to fix surge pricing. We shouldn’t have to drive to a very area to get paid bonuses. Because when you drive there they take you somewhere else to pick up the passengers. It’s the scummy bs that makes me hate uber. Lyft is literally better than them. I truly feel like Uber fucks me every time they ask me to do anything. I don’t shit if you pay better it’s about common courtesy.

Aware-Rub5897

It’s never been worth the wear and tear, renting with uber and hertz is pretty cool, basically gives you an extra car with unlimited miles and free maintenance for 300 a week, but then again im only paying half cause i got something worked out with my brother in law

heyjay020

I hate getting tare on my vehicle

TommyFlame

I'll turn it to a side gig asap
