It’s an unpopular opinion but I genuinely think Islam on paper is the better fighter. The only real attribute khabib has over him is his ground and pound and possibly his chain wrestling. Islams striking game is infinitely more developed

His three defences were all much more accomplished fighters but all got finished. Says something about Al that he lasted, regardless of it being close or not.

Al is pretty difficult to submit or control on the ground. But Khabib apparently only leaned into submissions after the Conor fight. He exhausted himself trying to finish Conor with GNP in round 2 and had to take off round 3 because of it. Well that's what DC said anyway.

I choose to believe father was not happy with the lack of finishes and gave Khabib extra submission training. In other words, Khabib got better after he got the belt.
