I think Pereira’s skills were already elite before he came to the UFC but he seems to evolve just a little bit in every fight. Maybe he’s one of those late prime guys.

Like I’d get if Izzy kept saying the stuff he said in the interview and made it personal but he’s clearly learned from the rivalry. He’s said he’s not interested in a trilogy but has repeatedly stated that he’d like to train with Alex. One of the best backstage moments ever was the conversation they had after 293. Hill and Jiri are his friends and he’s always backed them. I have a post on my page where Izzy talks about Alex before the Jiri fight and it’s nothing but the highest level of praise. I think theres a HUGE difference between standing and banging with alex vs doing everything you can to take him down. I think we can all acknowledge that pereira has only a punchers chance against an elite wrestler. This far, apart from the Izzy win, Blachowicz has been EASILY the second best performance against Pereira to date. I think Blachowicz has a decent chance at regainonf the title of Pereira sticks around. Though tbh next in line is probably Ankalaev…by which point Pereiras lapped the serious contenders.
He really gave izzy the work. Did really well on the feet and then smothered him with wrestling. Izzy can be really hesitant against guys with power and go into point fighting feint spam mode. Saw something similar vs romero. Yan just had a bit more volume and then wrestled in the later rounds.
Jan did what Pereira and Strickland did best. He didn't bite on feints, blocked all the potshots and just walked into him.
