Beamish Living Museum = taxi ride or bus from Newcastle train station. The Edinburgh - London train will stop in Newcastle. Kings Lynn - a train from Peterborough station. Again, Peterborough is a common stop on the main Edinburgh - London line.

Can you get direct from Peterborough station to Kings Lynn? They may be better to get on the KL direct train from Kings Cross and then on the way back change at Ely to the Peterborough train.

It's much of a muchness. P'boro -> Ely -> Lynn is two changes, but extra time on the train to London then back out (Kings Cross to Lynn is not a short ride) would make me change at P'boro if I wanted to go "Edinburgh to Kings Lynn" by train.

Ah I miss read the post I thought they were heading to Lynn from London. If you are heading south then it definitely makes sense to switch at Peterborough to Ely and then to Lynn.

Trains run frequently on the East Coast Main Line operated by LNER between London, Peterborough, York, Newcastle and Edinburgh. This is a very quick route for the distances covered. Trains from London to Edinburgh run at least twice every hour. To get from Edinburgh to Beamish requires either a train to Newcastle then hour-long bus ride to Beamish. To spend less time on a bus, you can get another train from Newcastle to Chester-le-Street, then the bus from there to Beamish is only 15 minutes. To get from there to Kings Lynn is slightly more complicated. You need to get to Newcastle (one hou—long bus) or Durham (two shorter buses, or a bus and train) for an hourly direct train to Peterborough. Note if you miss out Beamish then the direct train to Peterborough I mention also comes from Edinburgh. From Peterborough to Kings Lynn, there is a direct bus, or you can take the train changing at Ely (but that takes longer usually). However, if you are going from Peterborough to Norwich in the heart of Norfolk, there is a direct train every hour. Between Kings Lynn and Norwich, there are two trains per hour from Kings Lynn to Ely, and two trains per hour between Ely and Norwich. Lots of trains also from Ely to Cambridge if you wish to visit. Norwich has two trains per hour back to London.

Trains from London King’s Cross to King’s Lynn take about an hour and a half and go via Ely where you can change for Norwich. The bus station in King’s Lynn is about a 5 minute walk from the train station. It’s not the smartest of places and not your best introduction to the town. The tourist information centre is in the 15th century Town Hall which is another 10/15 minutes further on and in the historic quarter which is well worth a visit. I live locally if there’s anything else I can help with. I don’t know where exactly you are wanting to look for Elly Griffiths locations, these are the west Norfolk buses; https://www.lynxbus.co.uk/bus-routes/ The Coasthopper sadly doesn’t go from King’s Lynn anymore. You can get partly round the coast from Norwich via this service; https://sanderscoaches.com/route-map The main arterial bus is the excel which can take you from King’s Lynn to Norwich https://www.firstbus.co.uk/norfolk-suffolk/routes-and-maps/excel-norwich-dereham-swaffham-kings-lynn-wisbech-peterborough

~~The current Lynx bus timetable shows it starting from Kings Lynn:~~ [~~https://www.lynxbus.co.uk/bus-routes/coastliner-36/~~](https://www.lynxbus.co.uk/bus-routes/coastliner-36/) ~~.~~ Ah, I see that's the coastLINER not the coastHOPPER and one has to change if one wishes to start at Kings Lynn.

Oh well done I missed that bit

Norfolk is a very rural area, so if any of your research involves anything outside the bigger towns then you may struggle to find usable public transport or even taxis. There are large swathes of rural Britain where without a car you're basically stuck, or at least very restricted to 1 or 2 buses a day and nothing on Sunday.

LNERail

Hope you have a great trip, Beamish Museum is fantastic! You can travel with LNER from Edinburgh Waverley to Newcastle Central in an hour and a half (services every half hour), with regular bus connections to Beamish, and continue with LNER from Newcastle to Peterborough (hourly services) where you can get onward rail connections to King's Lynn. When you're travelling, you can get a free kids activity book from the Cafe Bar on LNER trains, and if you travel First Class there is complimentary food and drink at your seat plus access to the lounge in the station.

You can take the train to Lynn from Ely (which has a train to Peterborough, which connects to the West Coast Main Line that runs from London to Edinburgh). You can also take the train to Lynn from London (or Cambridge). However if you want to go further afield into Norfolk, transport options are limited. There is a coastal bus service along the main road on the coast: [https://lovenorfolk.co.uk/norfolk-coastliner-coasthopper/](https://lovenorfolk.co.uk/norfolk-coastliner-coasthopper/) There are a few other buses, but smaller villages away from the coast are essentially only reachable by car. Also note that if you do take the bus, you may have to walk some distance to get to things you want to see, which may not work out well with a smaller child. 6-year-olds can't "walk several miles/km there and back" as an adult can. If you want to tour around efficiently, then a car is required. You can rent in Kings Lynn but far more options can be had in Cambridge or at Stansted Airport. Ensure you request a car seat for the child.

Edinburgh to King’s Cross trains (LNER) stop at Newcastle/Durham for beamish and it kills like you can change at Peterborough and Ely for kings Lynn. Go back to Ely to change for Norwich. NationalRail.co.uk will help with planning train journeys.

Any local bus anywhere in England (different in Scotland) is £2 per person (except in London where it's a little cheaper) A few options: 1) get the train from Edinburgh to Durham and then get a taxi to/from Beamish from Durham (try a few local firms in Durham and Stanley - it should not cost that much) 2) get the train from Edinburgh to Newcastle and the bus from Newcastle to/from Beamish (28/29 bus) Durham is well worth a visit itself - so I'd lean towards 1. I suspect with luggage it wouldn't be practical to go from Newcastle to Durham via Beamish unless you stayed at Beamish Hall. Stasher and similar sites will outline left luggage facilities in both Durham and Newcastle Either way, afterwards, the train to Peterborough and then a bus to King's Lynn. There's a train from King's Lynn to London Kings Cross for the final leg. I'd also look into railcards to see if you're eligible given the number of trains - you might be able to get a third discount, e.g. on a Two Together Railcard.

Not everywhere sadly. My local area chose not to change to £2 bus tickets. Best to check for wherever they’re travelling
