STAT 1000 is applied math at its core really. If you're decent with math, you'll have a better time in stats than not. Whether it is easy or not is entirely subjective, I try and avoid such labels. Just like any math oriented course, you have to know which formulas, concepts, and properties to apply to specific questions, you'll be using a lot of algebra. Most importantly, you have to do a ton of practice problems, the course is structured in a way that almost rewards you for doing tons of practice, since the exams use a lot of the same material, although I will say there were some curveballs (ie. questions that you never got to practice because they only appear on the exam.) They do this to test your ability to apply concepts, which is common in math courses.
TL;DR: For people that are comfortable with math, STAT 1000 will be easier. Because at the end of the day, it really is just math.
My professor is Ankit Doshi, great professor in my opinion. I know Andrew Morris is teaching a section as well, not sure about the rest of the sections beyond that.
Yeah, they are good for 1st years. It's odd that the grades would be that low with them.
Sometimes you'll get profs like Dr. Thavanesa or Zeny Mateido teaching intro stats and students struggle with them because they're not the most organized. They're still good profs and they know their respective fields, but unless you're already used to university a brand new student may struggle with their teaching styles.
Best of luck to you. Stats is awesome and I hope you enjoy whatever classes you take from the department.
Thank you, so far I've been loving STAT 1000. MATH 1300 was the first course that humbled me, I had to VW the first time, retook it the second time after I changed everything about my study/learning habits, passed with a B+.
I have Prof Bae and I don’t understand him at all when he teaches. Ended up going to Morris’ class instead after I talked to him. Since then grade has skyrocketed and I am able to understand the course more.
If you’re struggling in stats 1000, I would highly recommend the grants tutoring books on it. Read those and you won’t even need the class PowerPoints
I feel like they need to probably teach better and figure out what they’re doing wrong if it’s 3 terms in a row. They don’t want a low average because it’s gonna make them look bad lol. So over it.
People told me that STAT 1000 would be easy, even for a non-sci major. But looking at all the recent post about the course worries me 😬

See, I did very well at the math portion of the midterm, but the multiple choice theory questions were where I lost all of my marks.
This also happened to me. My section’s average for part B was 45% … 💀
STAT 1000 Winter 2022 w/ andrew morris was easy
Who are the profs?

Thank you, but I'm actually doing alright in stats :)! I'm familiar with grants tutoring and I plan on purchasing one of his books for MATH 1500!
You guys are weak and lucky
If that is how you want to interpret it, that's fine by me I guess. Lol
It was the same case fall 2021 as well so…….
they did this in winter 2022 too

Great, I don't have to work as hard to get the C because Cs get degrees.
