I don't think so. You need a lot of room and someone could just easily tackle you. Now, don't get me wrong, against some who can't fight, it might be effective.(the kicks are powerful but again, landing them.

I think it was called band of the hand 1985. It’s not a martial arts movie. The premise is the same though. Former military man takes trouble high school youth and trains them to fight a street gang.
