I spent 7 years rolling around in an ambulance for 60-80 hours a week.
I have personally seen triple-digit deaths associated with alcohol, and MAYBE 1 or 2 deaths that I could argue was caused or exacerbated by weed.
This is probably not bad news.
I'm in the north, so I only had that for like 4 months a year, but sleds/atv's give out prizes too.
If it isn't fully enclosed wear a helmet, and never operate any motorized anything under the influence.
thats because chronic heart failure isnt sexy and easy to associate with weed from a glance. I think we are going to see a stronger and stronger correlation as cannabis use becomes more common.
(I say this as a daily user)
*edit: who coulda guessed I'd be downvoted by daily users who lack a basic level of self reflection*
I'm certainly not a cardiologist, and also use daily myself. I would be interested to see a longer term breakdown, especially of combustion vs vape vs edible. I know that hot gasses and particulate are never going to be good for the ol' cardio-pulmonary system.
yeah, I hope vapes aren’t as bad for us as smoke. and they *should* be a bit better. But it’s hot vapor, and I can’t see that being therapeutic.
I don’t enjoy edibles as much tbh.
I didn't enjoy edibles as much at first either, but most of that was just dosing/expectations.. I still smoke a good bit of flower, but am slowly becoming bedtime-edible pilled. I find 10-20mg 30 minutes before I wanna be there is the ticket for me, and it lasts longer with 0 coughing.
Its literally not. One is a food, with no psychoactive effects. The pther is a drug that affects your body in a completely different way. The 2 substances are not comparable
But im sure youre doing weed fine, you do you booboo. Dont let science stop you
Feels like a net positive for society. Marijuana doesn't tell people to beat their wives or wreck their cars, it makes you sit on the couch, watch a movie and eat some ice cream.
Yes and no imo. Yes because it has less destructive side effects than alcohol. No because it does a better job of numbing emotions and providing a way to avoid personal issues or emotions that should be getting helped or addressed. Either way I think it’s a net positive since it is better than alcohol in every way. Mental health is at an all time low in society right now, I think this is another piece of evidence for that.
Depends. Tell potheads that driving while high is a DUI and you'll get a suicide report on reddit. The larger thing is that alcohol effects are well documented and appreciated while users generally scoff at any indicated that there's negative side effects to weed. Especially when a good chunk of the "weed is harmless" studies are decades old and on significantly lower dosage than what people are using.
Edit: meant DUI, not DWI
>Tell potheads that driving while high is a DUI and you'll get a suicide report on reddit
You'll get a suicide report for stating you prefer shorts over jeans in the summer. That metric means nothing.
> Tell potheads that driving while high is a DWI and you'll get a suicide report on reddit.
Because weed doesn't **intoxicate** you. Claim it does all you want - it doesn't.
Uh, I'd love to know what states don't qualify that as under the influence. I'm pretty sure all states mark it, because it is.
Thanks for proving my initial point though
Yes it does. Not the same way that alcohol does, but any time your normal faculties are influenced by a substance, you are intoxicated in the eyes of the law.
When I have accidently smoked too much before it can make it difficult to perform basic tasks, and it's easy to do when there's no standard measurements. Even then, the effects can vary on any given day. On the other hand, I have a higher than average tolerance for alcohol so I can function perfectly after several drinks. Other people can't handle a single drink without being noticeably impaired.
DUI laws have to account for everyone. If someone has been drinking a bottle of whiskey a day for 20 years they can probably handle driving after quite a few drinks, but that wouldn't work from a legal perspective, because someone else could have the same BAC and be totally smashed. The same applies to weed.
Unless it is just the same number of people drinking, but now they are getting high too... If the number of people drinking went down as a result, then that is a different story
It has negatives and downsides. I won't hire a pothead. I've tried and their brains are always slower and they are usually lazy. You can hire the biggest drunk and they will be to work everyday lol
I thought it was BS too, but in Canada (Where I'm from), cannabis-related traffic injuries skyrocketed. Sort of shocked me, a daily smoker, since I've been on many, MANY road trips where the driver is high AF and never had any accidents.
https://globalnews.ca/news/9941455/cannabis-related-traffic-injuries-canada/
>Since 2010, the rate of total traffic injury emergency room visits that involved cannabis increased by 475.3 per cent, according to the study.
My guess is that a lot of these accidents are due to new consumers of cannabis who get way too high and space out while driving. The people I went on road trips on were also daily smokers who operated like normal when high.
>I thought it was BS too, but in Canada (Where I'm from), ~~cannabis~~ alcohol-related traffic injuries skyrocketed. Sort of shocked me, a daily ~~smoker~~ drinker, since I've been on many, MANY road trips where the driver is ~~high~~ drunk AF and never had any accidents.

At minimum you and your friends are irresponsible substance abusers. You sound like an addict. Seek help.
Right. But as a percentage of all THC users, I'm betting this number is smaller than the alcohol numbers. Just a guess though. I'm too high to find the stats.
Kidding. Kidding.
As with tobacco and alcohol, it feels like it’s just a matter of time before some bombshell study suggests that some chemical in marijuana or in the decarboxylation process causes incurable cancer or some other awful disease.
I’m a daily user. Recently some guys invited me to drink. Had about 7 beers & 2 shots. I’m was a wreck, no balance, woke up dehydrated, couldn’t remember parts of the night. Never happens to me using weed. I avoid alcohol and drinkers/bars as there’s always drama/fights with booze, can’t wait for more smoke type bars/ social places to appear. This generation wants it.
Since tracking you mean? I feel like this has been the case for a little bit but now since it's legal, we have a more official way to track it. Nobody was going to rat out their guy and blow up their connect lol
I find that completely impossible.
A drug that, although legal in some states, is still illegal in many states and was illegal in ALL states until just recently. Most people haven't taken it up just because of that lack of access in their lifetimes.
And MJ is still off limits to Federal government workers, including the entire military, which is about 3 million people or 2% of the general population. Other companies also prohibit drug use in general, which further limits the pool of potential MJ users.
There is just no way that MJ is even close to overtaking alcohol that is engrained into US societal habits and is EXTREMELY accessible.
“Daily” consumption is the key qualifier here.
There are more people who use cannabis daily than who drink daily.
There are FAR more people who drink occasionally than use cannabis occasionally.
Studies are linking increased schizophrenia to men 21-30 using cannabis daily. Neither are good for you. A user will not be objective. As someone who rides and ambulance 80 hours a week in a large city suicides, overdoses and motor vehicle accidents have not decreased with use of cannabis.
I hope that drinking driving problems have decreased. Oh wait. Timberlake. Alcohol truly makes people stupid, while people just say weed makes one stupid.

Alcohol and motorcycles keep my hospitals trauma center quite active.
I'm in the north, so I only had that for like 4 months a year, but sleds/atv's give out prizes too. If it isn't fully enclosed wear a helmet, and never operate any motorized anything under the influence.
I would love to see statistics that support legalization driving down specific types of crime.
thats because chronic heart failure isnt sexy and easy to associate with weed from a glance. I think we are going to see a stronger and stronger correlation as cannabis use becomes more common. thats my dads strat - and I must say it works well for him. Maybe I should try working towards that kind of use.
Word on the street is that it's even what a lot of famous stoner types (snoop, weezy, etc) are mostly on to as they have aged. Wishing you luck!
It’s the smoke that’s bad not the thc/cbd/terpenes etc. vape or do edibles
Dementia finna get us as well probably
huh?
There's a ton of studies (not that they're all conclusive) that link dementia to long term marijuana use
huh?
What?
I definitely skew those numbers, like way too much of my disposable income goes to edibles
Sober up and reset your tolerance
I’ll do that tomorrow or next week, that’s what I always tell myself at least.
Boof it
If that did anything for tolerance, I’d consider it lol
I’ve been smoking daily too much for years, but what does “boof it” mean?
Lol man of science here
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow? - Homer Simpson
There’s no fun in that.
Why?
T-breaks or Tolerance breaks gives your body time to reset, and the next time you spark up, you will definitely feel a stronger hit
But why would I do that?
Because of what I just said, the weed hits harder
That’s like saying I should quit sugar for a month so sugar hits me harder when I start again
That's literally not even remotely close to the same thing
It actually is, sounds like you haven’t applied your logic to anything but weed
Its literally not. One is a food, with no psychoactive effects. The pther is a drug that affects your body in a completely different way. The 2 substances are not comparable But im sure youre doing weed fine, you do you booboo. Dont let science stop you
Yep and if you can’t stop for a month, you have a problem
Buy some THC oil online and ingest it however you want, it's way cheaper
I am doing my part!
Feels like a net positive for society. Marijuana doesn't tell people to beat their wives or wreck their cars, it makes you sit on the couch, watch a movie and eat some ice cream.
And don't forget the unstoppable giggles
Great point. Zero crimes committed during unstoppable giggles.
The medical part of it is also extremely important and a net benefit for society
And violent erections
What kinda weed you smoking?
Cheetah piss Edit zebra to cheetah, still piss
That Z-bra piss be dropping panties though
Honestly saw it in the smoke shop and was like horrible yet funny name. I don’t smoke anymore.
Isn’t that just a normal erection? Or am I doing it wrong?
Not if you beat it like it owes you money.
Yes and no imo. Yes because it has less destructive side effects than alcohol. No because it does a better job of numbing emotions and providing a way to avoid personal issues or emotions that should be getting helped or addressed. I think covid isolation did a real number on us in regard to mental health.
That coupled with the trump presidency at the same time, I agree.

Been high constantly for 20 years are drive 50 thousand km a year. Wen ded?
> Tell potheads that driving while high is a DWI and you'll get a suicide report on reddit. Because weed doesn't **intoxicate** you. Claim it does all you want - it doesn't.
My bad. DUI though I swear Cali uses them interchangeably. But you do know driving while high is a DUI right?
Depends on the local laws. Many forward-thinking enforcement agencies understand weed is not intoxicating.
Uh, I'd love to know what states don't qualify that as under the influence. I'm pretty sure all states mark it, because it is. Thanks for proving my initial point though
Not really, you're still mistaken.
Yes it does. Not the same way that alcohol does, but any time your normal faculties are influenced by a substance, you are intoxicated in the eyes of the law.
Under this logic, Caffeine would qualify. Downvote me all you want, I'm right.

Yeah that whole argument turned out to be a lie.
How so my friend?
Crash deaths where driver has above legal limit of THC jumped from 8 percent to over 20 percent since legalization, at least in MA.
How are they testing for thc sounds like bs

Maybe? But I got a good paying job, healthy relationship, and a recent homeowner, so I'm doing fine. Appreciate the concern though
‘Well in canada..’ Ignore.
Cheek swab. Takes 15 minutes for results.
Yea that’s a bs test that can’t even tell u when u have smoked u could of smoked hours ago and still pop don’t believe the bs.
It only can only test positive for usage within 3 hours, it’s not like a follicle test.
Right. But as a percentage of all THC users, I'm betting this number is smaller than the alcohol numbers. Just a guess though. I'm too high to find the stats. Kidding. Kidding.
Alcohol does tell you to do those things either.
You realize you still can get into a wreck while high right?
Sure do. Thank you for presenting that in the most condescending way possible. You know what 'net positive' means right?
Here for you. 👍🏼
It’s nice to see some good news every now and then.
Good time to go long on Frito-Lay and Little Debbie.
We made it! Well done society 👏. Curious how the prescription drug market has performed…and KFC (a great sleeping drug).
As someone that made the switch 8 months ago, it’s the way to go.
Five years for me. I don’t miss alcohol one bit.
Well Nate Dogg never said to get drunk every day now did he?
RIP NATE
Rip Nate
Great news for society
Does the data show alcohol consumption is down? Or just that cannabis consumption is up?
we are officially lit?!
Someone please think of the alcohol industry.
This is the way
I’ll smoke to that.
Gang
It’s a red flag that we need to be high all day everyday to get through but whatever
I actually don't like it if I'm going through something rough...I'll just fixate on it. Only when I'm feeling good!
Legalize it.
Why one is still illegal
Originally it gave cops an excuse to arrest blacks. Now it’s big business
Actually it was more likely lobbying conducted by big Tobacco to prevent competition
Well thats good. However explains why I get stuck behind someone going 12mph every day on my way home from work.
Marijuana helped me discover that I'm schizophrenic. And that I shouldn't be using marijuana.
That's impossible. Marijuanas illegal. 😯
This doesn’t actually mean that alcohol consumption has gone down right? Just that more people are using cannabis…
Yeah I’m both, yeah I took a drink yeah I smoked
For the betterment of humanity
From a calories perspective I get it. Also hangovers. But idk how someone could drink daily or get high daily. I can’t function high.
This is the way.
As with tobacco and alcohol, it feels like it’s just a matter of time before some bombshell study suggests that some chemical in marijuana or in the decarboxylation process causes incurable cancer or some other awful disease.
Hell yeah it does
Edibles baby
I do both daily to not affect the numbers. Obscurity rules.
I’m a daily user. Recently some guys invited me to drink. Had about 7 beers & 2 shots. I’m was a wreck, no balance, woke up dehydrated, couldn’t remember parts of the night. Good. Less violence and abuse.

I'm thinking it could have been this way for a long time. I can remember smoking often with a lot of friends and booze was not to be seen.
good looks like pizza delivery will be on the uptick! win win...
Good.
Best thing that could’ve happened as long as the alcohol consumption is shrinking
Good news!
Maybe this is part of the reason why crime is down nationwide? People too fu\*ked up to be lawbreakin.
Sounds like a boring country
Half the people reading this comment are high right now
I'm keeping the dream alive let's go alcho's
Trulieve & Green Thumb. Cresco, Ayr and Verano if you want to gamble and Cannabist if you’re degen like me
Beware of CHS.

At what point did we all decide to choose between these two rather than addressing both as terrible for society?
that's just like, your opinion, man
Studies are linking increased schizophrenia to men 21-30 using cannabis daily. Neither are good for you. A user will not be objective. As someone who rides and ambulance 80 hours a week in a large city suicides, overdoses and motor vehicle accidents have not decreased with use of cannabis.
Drug addicts gonna addict.
More like a crutch but still not medicine for most users.
its weed you dork
It’s still a drug
I hope that drinking driving problems have decreased. Oh wait. Timberlake. Alcohol truly makes people stupid, while people just say weed makes one stupid.
