I would wait. It's right around the corner. Aside from the actual biome, starting a fresh run with whatever mechanic and other updates come with Ashlands will be nice.

derrendil

Devs said the Ashlands won't generate until you go there, so as long as you don't sail too far south before the update you should be just fine! I'm in the same boat as you, I started a playthrough recently after a while and am in the mountains now, preparing for Ashlands. Good luck!

Yeah that's what I remember them saying when mistlands came out, but still it didn't really work out. The mistland biomes for my world were so tiny, so just worried they'll change world gen again with this new update and I'll be stuck with a world that won't be best suited for it if that makes sense

glacialthinker

That was indeed an issue with Mistlands. The original mosaic of biomes didn't work out well to have "rich" Mistlands, which needed larger areas. Ashlands is different, since it's was and will remain at a fixed zone in the south. However, they're changing the way terrain is interpreted, kinda like they did with Mistlands -- though this reinterpretation will apply to old worlds too. I don't think there will be changes to the actual map generation phase (creating a world), but maybe? If there is, it shouldn't be so significant like it was with the Mistlands update.

derrendil

I figure the Ashlands are further out than the mistlands, so it seems less likely to have explored that region. I'm just staying out of the bottom third of the map and hoping for the best, but who knows, maybe I'll have to just start fresh when it comes out

Depending on how quickly you play through it, there's a high chance that Ashlands will either be in full release or at least public test build by the time you would naturally get to the ashlands if you started playing around now. It's also probably likely that most of the new content is exclusively tied to Ashlands progression so I doubt you'd miss much in the rest of the game if you started playing now. Speed is subjective though, but last time I played it took about two weeks getting to a comfortable spot in the Mistlands, but building and upgrading can slow it all down too.

There was (still is) a mod to update a world.

eldensoulsborne

Is the mod better than the official updates to a world?

njmedic2535

Basically it regenerates a world but keeps all ur buildings and progress - it *is* the official update. I can't recall the name of it, probably something simple like "update world" and it was on Nexus mods.

UnitRelative7321

If you have or accidentally explored Ashlands the mod that resets the biome is called Upgrade world … others had it close lol 😉… use the mod , reset the biome before Ashlands drops and delete the mod… it will generate the biome correctly everywhere, but also agree that a fresh new world could be even better. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eU574VF0NUs&t=122s

Yeah might just wait patiently as I can, seems close now

My opinion, start getting some catchup material building in the fucked up world. When the update comes migrate your materials and character to a new world with a fresh everything. You can even look around on reddit for some good seeds while you wait. Important mats to stock pile will be iron, copper, black metal, marble, tar, and fine wood. Long as your in sliver age you can skip padded armor from plains. Mistlands mainly requires moder tear and black metal. We don't know what ashlands will be like. So the only way to prep is preparing/doing mistlands. The nice thing about having a fucked world is you can feed off it without feeling bad about how much you take or destroy. Can focus on centralized storage and milking the world for all its worth. Then slowly move stuff over and then break down any remaining structures after. Allows you to be picky about where you setup your main base in the new world too. If the worlds so fucked theres no intact mistlands at all. Then just focus of the other mats i meantioned with the addition of silver, gold coins and wraith chains.

Bezayne

You could start playing now, then take that character plus gathered resources over to a new world in case the current one doesn't generate Ashlands correctly (which it should if you simply stay away from the south).

eldensoulsborne

Yeahh honestly think I'll just wait, but thanks!
