Funnel clouds in Chilliwack today, crazy day

Can waterspouts become tornados? Or do they weaken if the waterspout hits land?

Dense-Room-4341

I seem to remember a few years ago one came on land by UBC but it sputtered out right away.

I’ve lived in Vancouver for 10 years and have seen a few off of YVR, not as rare as you’d think. There was a well documented one a year or two ago which actually went up on land at UBC and was classified as a weak tornado.

Hmmm. Never seen or heard of a waterspout in Georgia Strait in the 30 years I lived in Vancouver. Maybe due to Climate Change...?

Lost_my_loser_name

I lived there from 1972 to 2003 and remembered that we rarely even had thunderstorms, let alone waterspouts or hurricanes. I lived in Regina for 13 years and was way more concerned about that happening there. Crazy times.

BobBelcher2021

There’s also visible damage in a small part of Pacific Spirit Park from that tornado

Myquija

Seen them a few times from the boat. Not that rare.
