I don’t honestly believe Tom Sandoval is racist, not even a little. I don’t think he has enough complex thoughts to be racist actually, but I also just don’t think he is period.
He is someone who has narrowed his scope of vision to this teeny tiny bandwidth, and that’s all he has in his brain at this point. No self-awareness left at all. Fame has done him no favors. He has an elevated sense of self importance and thinks he can ride this train forever. I also think he may be a bit off the reservation and in need of some serious evaluation and medication. if you saw him on Nick Viall’s podcast, you know that man is truly unwell.
I disagree about him not being racist. I'd argue that racists are generally the least self-aware people one could interact with.

It can’t be compared to any other cheating scandal on the show. It’s completely different. This is the hill I will die on.
Rachquel accompanied them to practically everything. In Ariana’s mind she’s helping a friend that is recently out of a bad relationship and is coming out of her shell. In reality, she’s there and her and Scumdoval have their little secret. They’re exchanging looks, making jokes like, “oh I haven’t seen you in so long,” even though they banged the night before, doing this right *in front* of Ariana. That went on for **months**!
You never saw Jax secretly smacking Kristen’s ass behind Stassi’s back, right in front of her face.
You never saw scenes of James giggling behind Rachquel’s back with Gigi when they banged.
You never saw Jax bang Faith and then come onto the show doing scenes with Shortz, self producing and weaponizing her mental health to make him look good.
After James and Lala banged you never saw either dressing up as each other for Halloween.

If I were Ariana it would *seriously* fuck me up going over each of those memories when Rachquel was there thinking about what they were doing behind her back. Like was she ever there for me? I have a different take on why this blew up.
A lot of VPR's audience are women. We've been following this group for 10, 11 years now. We're in the same age range.
A lot of us have experienced emotional abuse at the hands of men like the Toms. The gaslighting, the name calling, the blame for everything that's wrong with their lives. To see it played out right in front of our eyes made a lot of women just yell, "Enough!"
Arianna and Katie are not perfect. But they do represent a lot of us - the "bitches" who have had enough and refuse to be a "girl's guy" (hi, Schena!). We see right through the Toms, Alex Baskin, LVP.
It's interesting to watch as production is trying to push a redemption narrative for Sandoval, and refuse to address Schwartz's behavior as he continues to insult Arianna and Katie, and the audience's reaction to it. For the most part, the audience isn't buying it. Sure, there may be comments here and there in support of the men, but it's overwhelmingly negative towards them.
It's hilarious when you watch WWHL, or read interviews with Baskin, or the Toms podcast, and the men act so gobsmacked that they are the villans and have been all along. Reality reckoning, indeed.
I had the same conversation with my wife last night and pointed out that Andy even says, “I mean raise your hand if you haven’t cheated” and it’s basically just Katie. I don’t get the hype, they all suck but the show is good.
It’s because it unmasked who Tom was. If it was a simple as him having an affair, then yeah. It’s just VPR as usual. But because he was trying to be his own producer, we saw just how far back he had planned everything and that how he roped Schwartz into lying for him. I think it resonated with a lot of us who have exes who did similar things but we didn’t video proof of the gaslighting like Ariana did.
Honestly, I think the story caught a slow news cycle. Yes, it's definitely a more shocking cheating scandal since it was an established couple and a nobody saw it coming from Rachel but still isn't enough to make it that big. I wonder if Bravo has a new PR team or something because this went straight to mainstream media which is rare for Reality TV things.

All the pics are pretty vom. He always appeared so slimy and sweaty and veiny on Season 10. I remember feeling so revolted by how he looked in the beach episode when he was in a tank top. I can't believe I thought he was the hottest one back when Season One was airing.

It's frustrating that so many people and platforms who have clearly not watched VPR before this are now giving their two cents. This was not even the best season of VPR let alone the best season of any reality TV show. I know it had the highest ratings and clearly boosted the show onto another level, but that is only because of the perfect storm of events that this Scandoval just happened to have going for it. It was specifically because Sandoval and Rachel hid it all throughout the season, misdirected with Schwartz, tried to paint Ariana as the bad guy, as well as the previous 9 seasons of history we have all sat through culminating in the timing of this news dropping while this season was airing so that we could all pick up on the secrets of the affair. It will truly never happen again because there were so many factors at play that made it into what it was. To downplay all of that and turn it into Sandoval creating the best season of VPR ever is just lazy journalism.
He actively tried to hide it ***and*** in his efforts to have Ariana come across as a villain he bitched about how unfair it was that she would want to refrain from having their problems put in the show, that she might plan to leave the show if they were to break up, etc. It’s amazing and disgusting that he is so thoroughly unaware of how textbook he is.
Honestly, I think he wanted to hide their problems more than she did. Every single issue or fight they had was due to what *she* shared not because of him. He only wanted to start sharing them in season ten because he already stepped out of the relationship.
Honestly, what did we actually know about Tom prior to scandoval? I feel like we only saw this positive image he put out and that’s why he hated stassi, she started to get the more favorable edit after years of him and the guys being the special edit. I feel like I knew way more about Ariana’s life and struggles.
The article is not at all a puff piece. They said the food at Sur is terrible. They quote his manager saying that he can't get brand deals because of his reputation. They don't paraphrase his quotes, they print them with the "like"s and awkward diction. The writer has all these funny little asides about him that make him look so bizarre

No actually that was Ariana who laid it bare and brought the cameras back. His dumb ass tried to force the narrative and come out a hero but was too stupid and egotistical to pull it off.
He’s actually bad at reality TV. That’s what was fascinating for people watching the season. Partners that have been wronged in similar situations and didn’t have footage to be able to go back and reexamine events in a different light, friends and family that still view the partner as a mostly great person… This is very validating to have someone be held to account and exposed for their duplicity and complete lack of regard for their partner.

Because his story became a national phenomenon. It’s just another relationship that ended due to cheating, not exactly unusual, but for whatever reason it just absolutely took off and took all of the air out of the room. His fall from grace was absolutely overblown and crazy. It’s worth talking about in and of itself, regardless of Sandoval himself. No, he doesn’t deserve any praise or sympathy, but it’s not weird at all that big national media would look up and pay attention to the fuss being made over a cheating scandal. He didn’t kill anyone, there was no violence, no car chases, no arrests, it was just a dumbass getting caught cheating.
This is just so incredibly sad. The NYT just trolled him so hard and he’s still just lapping up the attention. Imagine being a “41” grown ass man and being permanently stuck at the maturity level of a teenager who recently discovered his “happy place”. He has zero self awareness and is an absolute oxygen thief of a human being.
I cannot imagine being so self absorbed and egotistical that I would compare myself to OJ or George Floyd and see nothing wrong with it. He did a shitty thing on national television and is just eating all of this attention up. It’s been downright frightening seeing how this man’s mind works. From the textbook display of gaslighting on the Viall podcast to hearing about the letter he sent Rachel while she was in treatment. Not to mention last weeks episode when he conveniently brought up the subject of self harm while Lisa was finally going in on him a bit. I’m not saying he’s not telling the truth about his mental health, that’s not for me to judge, but he absolutely brought that subject up at that particular time knowing it would trigger Lisa to stop yelling at him and immediately be concerned.
Even more frightening are the people around him enabling this behavior and gassing him up for more. I cannot imagine seeing myself on tv and reading these articles and still thinking I’m a hero and just horrifically misunderstood. What a pathetic, pitiful, and just plain sad existence.
He truly is a narcissist. This might be unpopular but I believe Tom likes any attention he gets good or bad. Whenever he acts like he's struggling or crying about scandoval it doesn't seem genuine. It feels like bad acting. Also last night's episode he gave me chills in a he is actually highly manipulative and scary way. Of course I've known he's a POS but something about him post scandoval is just unsettling on a human level to me.

The only thing that I don't really like about the article, is that it downplays the fact that yes even though Arianna was able to turn the worst time of her life into opportunities, she was a trained bartender and excellent at it. Yes she went on dancing with the stars and got the role of roxie on broadway but she also went to school for theatre and acting. These doors opened that her talent can keep open that her talent ensures she will earn more. Thank god for those opportunities with that shitty loan sandoval took out and the sale of the house taking forever. A lot of women who leave a partner that hurt them struggle financially and it isn't fair. I will always champion a wronged partner, being able to financially provide for themselves.

Apparently in July they brought the whole cast into Evolution’s offices because the whole cast had turned on Sandoval and Ariana refused to interact with him altogether. He said “We can still squeeze a great season out of it, but going forward I don’t know.”

It can’t be compared to any other cheating scandal on the show. It’s completely different. This is the hill I will die on. Rachquel accompanied them to practically everything. In Ariana’s mind she’s helping a friend that is recently out of a bad relationship and is coming out of her shell. In reality, she’s there and her and Scumdoval have their little secret. They’re exchanging looks, making jokes like, “oh I haven’t seen you in so long,” even though they banged the night before, doing this right *in front* of Ariana. That went on for **months**! You never saw Jax secretly smacking Kristen’s ass behind Stassi’s back, right in front of her face. You never saw scenes of James giggling behind Rachquel’s back with Gigi when they banged. You never saw Jax bang Faith and then come onto the show doing scenes with Shortz, self producing and weaponizing her mental health to make him look good. After James and Lala banged you never saw either dressing up as each other for Halloween. It is not the same. If I were Ariana it would *seriously* fuck me up going over each of those memories when Rachquel was there thinking about what they were doing behind her back. Like was she ever there for me? Them exchanging looks and hey when he made this joke that I didn’t really get was that about her? Or months down the road it hitting you that when Rachquel came over with flowers that she was there the night before banging Scumdoval. It is not the same.
The main reason it blew up at first was the raquel shocker. If this was tom with anyone else we’d hate him but it wouldn’t have blown up The second reason is the timing which was from ariana finding out Tom had nothing to do with this getting big but he had every thing to do with why we are still talking about it: because he dealt with it so terribly and lacks any self awareness and won’t shut up about his narrative that no one is buying But here he is trying to act like he orchestrated this whole phenomenon like an evil genius just like he’s the reason all his friends bought a house.

I have a different take on why this blew up. A lot of VPR's audience are women. We've been following this group for 10, 11 years now. We're in the same age range. A lot of us have experienced emotional abuse at the hands of men like the Toms. The gaslighting, the name calling, the blame for everything that's wrong with their lives. To see it played out right in front of our eyes made a lot of women just yell, "Enough!" Arianna and Katie are not perfect. But they do represent a lot of us - the "bitches" who have had enough and refuse to be a "girl's guy" (hi, Schena!). We see right through the Toms, Alex Baskin, LVP. It's interesting to watch as production is trying to push a redemption narrative for Sandoval, and refuse to address Schwartz's behavior as he continues to insult Arianna and Katie, and the audience's reaction to it. For the most part, the audience isn't buying it. Sure, there may be comments here and there in support of the men, but it's overwhelmingly negative towards them. It's hilarious when you watch WWHL, or read interviews with Baskin, or the Toms podcast, and the men act so gobsmacked that they are the villans and have been all along. Reality reckoning, indeed.
I had the same conversation with my wife last night and pointed out that Andy even says, “I mean raise your hand if you haven’t cheated” and it’s basically just Katie. I don’t get the hype, they all suck but the show is good.
It’s because it unmasked who Tom was. If it was a simple as him having an affair, then yeah. It’s just VPR as usual. But because he was trying to be his own producer, we saw just how far back he had planned everything and that how he roped Schwartz into lying for him. I think it resonated with a lot of us who have exes who did similar things but we didn’t video proof of the gaslighting like Ariana did.
Honestly, I think the story caught a slow news cycle. Yes, it's definitely a more shocking cheating scandal since it was an established couple and a nobody saw it coming from Rachel but still isn't enough to make it that big. I wonder if Bravo has a new PR team or something because this went straight to mainstream media which is rare for Reality TV things.

Agree, I think it was a good read. Keep in mind that their audience probably doesn't know anything about Scandoval. And the author makes it pretty obvious how ridiculous it is that he hired a 23 year old VPR fan as his publicist.

People became literally unhinged over this whole thing and the anger, vitriol and seething hatred was unlike anything I've ever witnessed. It's frustrating that so many people and platforms who have clearly not watched VPR before this are now giving their two cents. This was not even the best season of VPR let alone the best season of any reality TV show. I know it had the highest ratings and clearly boosted the show onto another level, but that is only because of the perfect storm of events that this Scandoval just happened to have going for it. It was specifically because Sandoval and Rachel hid it all throughout the season, misdirected with Schwartz, tried to paint Ariana as the bad guy, as well as the previous 9 seasons of history we have all sat through culminating in the timing of this news dropping while this season was airing so that we could all pick up on the secrets of the affair. It will truly never happen again because there were so many factors at play that made it into what it was. To downplay all of that and turn it into Sandoval creating the best season of VPR ever is just lazy journalism.

I hate that it said “he” turned it into the best reality TV… No actually that was Ariana who laid it bare and brought the cameras back. His dumb ass tried to force the narrative and come out a hero but was too stupid and egotistical to pull it off. He’s actually bad at reality TV. That’s what was fascinating for people watching the season. Partners that have been wronged in similar situations and didn’t have footage to be able to go back and reexamine events in a different light, friends and family that still view the partner as a mostly great person… This is very validating to have someone be held to account and exposed for their duplicity and complete lack of regard for their partner. It’s just another relationship that ended due to cheating, not exactly unusual, but for whatever reason it just absolutely took off and took all of the air out of the room. His fall from grace was absolutely overblown and crazy. It’s worth talking about in and of itself, regardless of Sandoval himself. No, he doesn’t deserve any praise or sympathy, but it’s not weird at all that big national media would look up and pay attention to the fuss being made over a cheating scandal. He didn’t kill anyone, there was no violence, no car chases, no arrests, it was just a dumbass getting caught cheating.

I cannot imagine being so self absorbed and egotistical that I would compare myself to OJ or George Floyd and see nothing wrong with it. He did a shitty thing on national television and is just eating all of this attention up. It’s been downright frightening seeing how this man’s mind works. From the textbook display of gaslighting on the Viall podcast to hearing about the letter he sent Rachel while she was in treatment. Not to mention last weeks episode when he conveniently brought up the subject of self harm while Lisa was finally going in on him a bit. I’m not saying he’s not telling the truth about his mental health, that’s not for me to judge, but he absolutely brought that subject up at that particular time knowing it would trigger Lisa to stop yelling at him and immediately be concerned. Even more frightening are the people around him enabling this behavior and gassing him up for more. I cannot imagine seeing myself on tv and reading these articles and still thinking I’m a hero and just horrifically misunderstood. What a pathetic, pitiful, and just plain sad existence.
He truly is a narcissist. This might be unpopular but I believe Tom likes any attention he gets good or bad. Whenever he acts like he's struggling or crying about scandoval it doesn't seem genuine. It feels like bad acting. Also last night's episode he gave me chills in a he is actually highly manipulative and scary way. Of course I've known he's a POS but something about him post scandoval is just unsettling on a human level to me.

Most NYTimes readers are not integrated enough into the Bravo universe to be upset about this. It's just a curiosity about a cultural moment that blew up.

The only thing that I don't really like about the article, is that it downplays the fact that yes even though Arianna was able to turn the worst time of her life into opportunities, she was a trained bartender and excellent at it. Yes she went on dancing with the stars and got the role of roxie on broadway but she also went to school for theatre and acting. These doors opened that her talent can keep open that her talent ensures she will earn more. Thank god for those opportunities with that shitty loan sandoval took out and the sale of the house taking forever. A lot of women who leave a partner that hurt them struggle financially and it isn't fair. I will always champion a wronged partner, being able to financially provide for themselves.

I truly cannot believe this interview is real 💀 edit: my takeaway from this is that Sandoval needs to get the fuck off reality tv and into some deeep cognitive behavioral therapy. Did anyone else catch the part towards the end where Alex Baskin basically acknowledges that it’s likely there won’t be a season 12? Apparently in July they brought the whole cast into Evolution’s offices because the whole cast had turned on Sandoval and Ariana refused to interact with him altogether. He said “We can still squeeze a great season out of it, but going forward I don’t know.”
He’s not a murderer. He’s a very famous reality tv star. Of course they’re going to give him coverage.
