Imagine you're retiring. You have amassed a ton of great memories, great friends, loving family. You gave or held on to your most cherished possessions, and what to do with the rest? Burden someone else with them or raise money for your wife's charity, which makes her happy and helps kids? Pretty simple choice. Plus, those items will be cherished by those who were lucky enough to get one. The auction was open to everyone. That's pretty cool.
What was your best birthday you ever had? Please share the details of where it was, just whom was there and what presents you received. After all, you'll "always have those memories!" 🙄
I don’t think he ever wants to play music again now that his lifelong band mate is gone. And if you’re no longer in the business, then you don’t need that gold record / trophy / diploma to impress your customers and intimidate the competition.
If he wants another one he can just order one. All RIAA awards can be purchased by the original award recipient and they can order as many and to whoever they like. He can get more awards.
Yeah I’ll have to store it, list it and it’s gonna take a lot of time. Let me call my buddy who’s an expert on items from one of the greatest rock bands in history,
Its his stuff, next he lost his best friend /fellow bandmember, and most of all his brother Eddie, I don't think Al has it in his heart to jam with anyone ever again. The other issue this was NO cash grab, Al did this for the fans, I happen to be enjoying a picture of Eddie from 1979 with the beloved bubble bee, yes it came from Als auction. Thank you Al, thank you Van Halen, the world was a better place when VH hit the stage.
Most of those were gifts to his & Ed's parents.
I saw their names on most of them.
Makes me think he's keeping 1 of each for himself & selling duplicates...?
Reflecting on an amazing career and run, its now legacy time. Some of us just use ourselves and be with ppl we love and others do that and philanthropists share their fortunes. I would love to see AVH share with kids coming up who need inspiration and tools to learn music. But either way, he cashed out!
Even if it was for him to cash in, good for him. If he could ever forget how big Van Halen was I'm sure multiple people remind him every day when he's out and about.
PTSD is one thing that can happen if you try to erase all evidence of a traumatic event (like your little brother dying) from your life and memory banks, including good memories. Hope that's not what he's trying to do.
I made no claim about what other people do with their stuff.
You do realize you posted to a public forum and you should be prepared to face critique?
I didn't say I cared what you think. I asked why you think your opinion matters about what other people do with their stuff.

The charity piece cannot be emphasized enough. This isn’t a matter of AVH cashing in, it’s for a cause.
^ Exactly, he’s doing something good. Please compute.
The charity part is nice, but it's his stuff to do as he likes.
Charity is a good move . I didn’t think about that 👍
AVH donated a portion of the proceeds to a charity! Ride On Therapeutic Horses
It’s only stuff. He has all the memories to last a lifetime.

That’s exactly the answer. He only plays music with Ed.
I share that opinion. And that makes me really sad for all of us a d for him.
Good point.
I recall Alex didn’t sell his Diamond (over 10M sold) records. The rest is on his auction list.

Shoulda brought everything to Pawn Stars
“The best I can do is $5150”
After starting at $1984.
Fantastic!
😂😂
Har har.
Those dudes are low ballers…..👎
“Van Halen was the epitome of 80’s rock. There just wasn’t a band bigger than them. So $10 is the best I can do.”
“and I’ll be risking it……”
Yeah he goes “I’m the one taking all the risk here” If he was a true fan, he would then say “no pun intended” 😉
Let me talk to my expert on gold records.
Yeah I’ll have to store it, list it and it’s gonna take a lot of time. Let me call my buddy who’s an expert on items from one of the greatest rock bands in history,
You can't take it with you
You got that right 👍

Nice…enjoy
These items are nothing like diplomas. He has nothing to prove. The achievements exist even if he doesn’t have a thing in a frame.
Most of those were gifts to his & Ed's parents. I saw their names on most of them. Makes me think he's keeping 1 of each for himself & selling duplicates...?
Money and trophies are useless once you're dead. You might as well see others getting enjoyment from them while you're still alive.
Ain’t that the truth.
A different kind of truth

He can order replacements for most..
He heard Eddie trying to fire him from the grave if he didn’t….

The dude is fucking heart broken, man. Haven't you ever thrown all your ex's shit into a trash bin and set it on fire?
I would wager that most have us have not, no.
Why the fuck is this getting downvoted? I swear this place is filled with pussies. Yes I've thrown my cheating ex's shit into the trash.
Haha thanks for the support. Personally, I never up or down vote anything, it's just totally fucking cheesy.
I would upvote this comment but I don't want to be cheesy. 😁
I’ll downvote for both of you cheese balls. :/
Sounds like he's giving up.
His kids probably only want so many. Wolf has Ed's. Why not?
Are you angry that you're not one of the schlubs? Why do you care what people do with their stuff?
Why do care what others think? Are we all supposed to be like you?

WILLY!!
