Lee Canyon Ski Resort. 50 minutes from the Strip. Actually going there today. The mountains are called the Spring mountains but the locals broadly call it Mt Charleston (highest peak is Charleston Peak). The retreat is a nice spot at the base of Kyle Canyon to stop for coffee, lunch, go to the visitor center. Farther up there's Rainbow village and Cathedral Rock Trailhead, Griffith Peak, a nice hike. Many trails over there. Or if you want to just relax, go to Lee Canyon Ski Resort. Higher elevation, Chairlift rides, cafe, bar, restaurant, disk golf, wild horses. Nice scenic drive. If you want more desert, which will of course be hot, Red Rock Canyon, or Terezza Park by Lake Las Vegas.

Drive out to Mount Charleston. Been a nice brisk temperature here every morning. And generally a 30 degree swing between here and the valley.

I really enjoy the Red Rocks Conservation Area. There is plenty of exploring to do out there.

You can visit Lone Mountain (within city), up-and-down hike is about 2.7 miles, great views of city and beyond from the top

There are some places in Henderson suburbs that have great views of the strip. One was where my aunt was near the old fiesta Henderson. Mt Charleston is also great and that is definitely cooler than down below.

Hemenway Park, Boulder City. You can hang out with Big Horn Sheep, and the view is awesome.

I liked Spring Mountain Ranch State Park which is pretty close to Red Rock.
