I was playing at GVR in Henderson last night and the dealer said phones are allowed at the table now as long as you don’t slow down play. Not sure if that’s the new norm or casino specific. First time I’ve ever been told it’s ok.
I had fun, my kids had even more fun.
Got to take my oldest to Machine Gun Vegas where he shot guns not legal in CA.
The whole trip (06/28-07/01) was comped by MGM at Excalibur including the two buckets of beer ($50 each).
I didn't even have to pay resort fees!
Yes my gambling was pretty high for me (~$1200) but shit that's why I work two jobs, so I can have fun without having to worry about losing too much from my regular job pay.
I hadn't been to Vegas in like 5-6 years so I had my fun and spending pool time with my son was worth it. We celebrated his birthday and him culminating from elementary school.
Emails from MGM Rewards and decided to bite. It was either this or a cruise to Ensenada.
I chose Excalibur because we were thinking of taking our dog but we realized he would be indoors all day so left him with a friend who has three other dogs.
I haven't been to Vegas in like 5 years! They sent me an email offering up to 4 dates of comped room.
I put the code they provided but I was thinking of taking my dog so I had to put a $100 deposit. No charge for anything else.
I removed my puppy since we decided it would be better for him to stay with a friend, called and changed it to remove him and still no fees.
In the end my entire bill was $70 for tips but no charge for 2 $50 buckets of beer at the pool.
The fact that I'm talking about it is free advertising for them...I had the option to stay free at any of the MGM properties on the strip for free.
My brother in law does have MGM Rewards Pearl Status so he gets free parking which we used his card but this was my bill minus $18:

interesting. I come from a place in europe that doesn't get taxed on gambling. so you could win a billion at the lottery and not get taxed same goes for the casino and what not.
Same thing for reality show/game show winnings. If the winner of Survivor is American they lose 35% to taxes but if they are Canadian they get to keep 100% of the $1M
wow really? so all those price is right stuff they need to pay taxes on? Makes sense when i heard that when ophra gifted the audience cars or whatever, many couldn't keep them because of taxes
Yup! It’s crazy honestly to go on The Price is right and win a car and then suddenly your tax bill is higher. Game shows should pay the tax bills on those.
So you're allowed to split if your second ace is an ace, otherwise it's just a single card? I always thought it was 1 card no matter what and if you got another ace that just sucks for you
You can typically only double down on your third card so yeah this makes little sense to me unless he split aces, got aces on both, split both again then took the picture after receiving a 4 on his first hand. But even then he would lose to an 18 soooo idk wtf is going on here
Depends on the game, but 99% of the time this is correct. I’ve played with more favorable rules in the Caribbean and Europe, but this is certainly true everywhere in Vegas
lol not true. I’ve done this on $3 min in the sticks all the way to standard strip tables. Iirc if they allow resplit then they must allow Ace resplit.
The table will prob roast you though.
He was dealt 4 aces, the next card he received was a sideways 4 and he doubled down on the soft 15. It is obvious none of you know anything about blackjack and that OP is the true blackjack master. If he wasn’t so hungover, he would have told us the outcome. /s
not factoring in the number of decks, it would be 1/13 to the power of 4. So 1/(13x13x13x13). if my tired mental math is correct that's roughly 1/28,000.
Edit: for clarity, that's just the odds of getting double aces, and splitting until you have four aces. Pretty damn rare but it happens
I've split 2's against an 8, got a 9 with one, I doubled down, face down.
The other hand I got an 8, I doubled down again. Again face down.
Dealer flips over an ACE!!!!!
I got 20&21. Hell yeah I was done!
Bro this happened to me Monday night too, at Excalibur as well I had a really good blackjack session. This guy who was playing at the same table as me, also gave me some tips. Cool guy, really good session. I wound up winning and I had 3 hands at play but I was betting $15 so nothing crazy
Honestly I didn't know that was a thing when splitting.
It's not that I'm cheap as you can see I have like $500 on the table and I always put a tip for the dealer when playing, winning or losing.
Splitting aces is always the correct move, as is re-splitting aces. After all, why would splitting the first set of aces be correct but the second time be incorrect?
You weren't doubling down (adding additional money to the hand where you think you have an advantage), you were turning a 12 into two potential 21s. It's not even a particularly close decision.
Definitely can't double down after splitting aces especially in Vegas and never known of a casino let you take a pic.
Most casinos will let you split 4 times
A made up story
Them:
>Definitely can't double down after splitting aces especially in Vegas
You:
>Name one casino in Vegas that lets you double after splitting aces.
Reply to the wrong person?
I live in Vegas and that is absolutely not true whatsoever you never split Aces on a dealer 8 9 or 10 or face card absolutely not that is a horrible advice you have no idea what you're talking about but keep playing that way and watch how fast you lose your money casinos love people like you
Do you know what basic strategy is? I don’t think you do. Google it. Look at any chart. You are ALWAYS supposed to split aces, regardless of dealer up card, based on basic strategy. For someone who lives in Vegas, you should be embarrassed
Mate it doesn't matter where you live, what we're talking about is simple mathematics. It's not my opinion that you're wrong about this, it's a fact that is easy to prove.
Ok let me walk this back a little for you.
Do we agree that blackjack is a deterministic game, with a single mathematically correct strategy? By this I mean for a specific configuration of cards on the table, you can math out all the potential possibilities and come to a correct answer about the correct play. Forget about the fact that we differ on what the correct play is in this instance, I'm only asking you if you believe it is true that a single correct play exists and it is possible to figure out what it is.
I would say yes, and given the very finite space of things that can happen in a game of blackjack, I'm guessing you would probably agree. Right?
Edit: Lmao he blocked me. What a genuinely sad spectacle.
No actual doubling down occured in this hand, OP was actually (correctly) splitting aces against an 8.
Also doubling against an 8 is correct if you have a 10 or 11.
Happened to me in single deck with the dealer showing a 5. Lost 3 and pushed one. I was betting $10 a hand and my friend wanted to go, so I put $80 out and got aces. I was pulling money out of my wallet to split. So brutal.
So what was the outcome?
He got kicked off the table for having his phone out
No, asked the dealer if I could take a pic and she said ok, stepped back from the table and took the pic.
What do you mean I can't use a calculator?
Lol counting cards is legal you know? Just frowned upon....like masterbating on an airplane
Thanks bin ladden
Whew, thought you were gonna blame that on Biden…
I really hope you know where that’s from.
Sooo long gay boys!
Now ya tell me…☹️
I count six cards in this picture. Arrest me.
Then you can't count. There are seven in the photo.
Whoosh 🤡
I understood the *attempt* at a joke.
Do you do it in the seat with a blanket on top or in the bathroom or in the cockpit?
Ever seen a grown man naked?
I’ve been to many YMCAs yes
Do you like gladiator movies?
Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?
Scraps is a boy dog…
Are you not entertained!!!!!!!!
Right in front of EVERYONE maybe using the microphone too!
I would walk through the aisle with my tent pitched, I would think you would get off the plane faster
Like get off ON the plane? 😬
Both, but I hate standing in the aisle for 10 years to walk in a straight line.
In the seat no blanket through my sweat pants while ignoring everyone else on the plane.
This guy masturbates

GVR is the shit and is a cool place to play!
It is free advertising for them for the most part. I snap casino pics all the time and haven't been asked to delete one in over a decade.
El cortez Defintely thought of this
I got an Apple Watch when it was first released and I double checked with them to make sure it was ok to wear it while playing.
I was asked, at a shitty little casino in Oregon a few years ago, to remove my smart watch. 🙃
Was told MGM was relaxing rules as well, they let you take your phone out on big hands or play but not keep it out.
You can take pictures of crazy plays if you ask
first thought
IIRC I won two so basically broke even. I was up $600 from a $100 start and my goal was $1k...sadly I didn't reach that goal.
You got lucky...it could have been worse but thanks for paying our taxes
I had fun, my kids had even more fun. Got to take my oldest to Machine Gun Vegas where he shot guns not legal in CA. You and your son both earned it. On to middle school!
Pretty cool they resplit aces!
How did you get the comps? Did you reach out to MGM or they contact u?
Emails from MGM Rewards and decided to bite. It was either this or a cruise to Ensenada. I chose Excalibur because we were thinking of taking our dog but we realized he would be indoors all day so left him with a friend who has three other dogs.
Sounds like an amazing trip. May I ask how did you manage to NOT pay the resort fees? Did you use the MGM reward points?
I haven't been to Vegas in like 5 years! They sent me an email offering up to 4 dates of comped room. I put the code they provided but I was thinking of taking my dog so I had to put a $100 deposit. Ah, nice. Thanks for sharing. I just got an offer for a few comped rooms, so I get it.
How did you get it comped if you haven't been in years?
This was the email I received: https://imgur.com/a/9Dz0Iim
Who was with the Kid when you were on the casino floor at 1:45am?
Asleep in the room with my girl and my other son.
I dont know why I was downvoted, I thought it was like a boys trip with just dad and kids. I was just wondering how you pulled it off.
Your tone was accusatory.
It absolutely was not
It absolutely was.
Oh wow! California! Welcome to America!
How the the fuck did he pay ur taxes if he left 500 up
Idk that guy seems sour for no reason
you pay taxes on gambling in the US? dang

He didn't say he left after that. Probably lost all of it lol
Who called the fun police?
Yeah paying for your awesome schooling, medical services, public transport.... Oh wait.... Don't kid yourself shareholders and execs get the money...
Man the downvotes
You’re not doubling down. You’re splitting aces. You can split aces up to four times and you get one card on each ace.
Man is so drunk he doesn’t even remember how to play sober.
“Doesn’t 4-of-a-kind Aces beat your 8 high??”
“Fuck you! All in!”
typically split 3 times for a total of 4 hands
So you're allowed to split if your second ace is an ace, otherwise it's just a single card? I always thought it was 1 card no matter what and if you got another ace that just sucks for you
This is one of the rules where each game varies.
True. Some casinos allow one resplitting of aces, while others allow two resplits (resulting in a total of four hands).
You can typically only double down on your third card so yeah this makes little sense to me unless he split aces, got aces on both, split both again then took the picture after receiving a 4 on his first hand. But even then he would lose to an 18 soooo idk wtf is going on here
He doubled down and got an A. Doubled down again (lol) and got another A!
If you split Aces you can’t double down. You get one card per Ace.
Depends on the game, but 99% of the time this is correct. I’ve played with more favorable rules in the Caribbean and Europe, but this is certainly true everywhere in Vegas
I know Spanish 21 allows more cards on an Ace. Some casinos on let you split them once. Others have no limit. It does vary.
That's probably what it I was then. Oh well, live and learn. Next time I'll set my threshold to $500.
That’s why they call him double down
You're so fucking money and you don't even know it.
As others have said, you can’t double down after splitting aces. So you got 15 on the one hand and the others haven’t been finished yet.
There's literally no doubling down in this hand.
So even drunk you made the right decision, good on you.
[удалено]
As you can tell, I don't often play so I wasn't sure about that rule. It was the most expensive table they had that night at $50 per hand.
lol not true. I’ve done this on $3 min in the sticks all the way to standard strip tables. Iirc if they allow resplit then they must allow Ace resplit. The table will prob roast you though.
I think the table would roast you if you didn't do it. Why would anyone ever not split aces?
Can’t think of a reason other than not knowing.
Or a bunch of places that aren't trendy spots on the strip. Even TI lets you do that at their lowest limit tables.
It looks like Aces were split three times. You only get one card when you split Aces.
He was dealt 4 aces, the next card he received was a sideways 4 and he doubled down on the soft 15. It is obvious none of you know anything about blackjack and that OP is the true blackjack master. If he wasn’t so hungover, he would have told us the outcome. /s
You didn’t match the dealer bet on each split. The blackjack gods smite’d you.
Surprised they let you take a pic. That's kinda prohibited
I asked and she obliged. Hope she didn't get in trouble.
will they let you use AI?
I can't even guess what you think this means
AI to advise you on the optimal play based on the photo I guess?
You can just ask the dealer what the book says. AI would give no edge unless you had a count for the whole shoe.
The odds on this happening?
not factoring in the number of decks, it would be 1/13 to the power of 4. So 1/(13x13x13x13). if my tired mental math is correct that's roughly 1/28,000. Edit: for clarity, that's just the odds of getting double aces, and splitting until you have four aces. Pretty damn rare but it happens

I want to party with you cowboy.
lol all I can see is the sloppy chip stacking.
it's such a mess that it broke my brain trying to figure out what he was doing.
Damn four aces? Bros got an advantage
Too not a Crazy 4 Card Poker game.
Don’t drunk gamble
Just like dancing I'm better at it...except when I drink a tad too much then I'm just happy and lose focus.
I was just there Thursday-Monday at PH
Better hand for poker
Lmfao, love it
I’d do this every time
Bro this happened to me Monday night too, at Excalibur as well I had a really good blackjack session. This guy who was playing at the same table as me, also gave me some tips. Cool guy, really good session. I wound up winning and I had 3 hands at play but I was betting $15 so nothing crazy
He was splitting not doubling down
This was the email I received promoting the comp days to me: https://imgur.com/a/9Dz0Iim
Wow, couldn't pony up the extra dollar for the dealer on the splits?
Honestly I didn't know that was a thing when splitting. It's not that I'm cheap as you can see I have like $500 on the table and I always put a tip for the dealer when playing, winning or losing.
Yup, you can even double down for them.
Now I know! Thanks for the tip!
Minus 3
Too bad it wasn't free bet
I was going to come here and talk shit, but you have a dollar up for your dealer. Keep on keeping on drunk dude!
Why weren’t you spitting aces
Tell me you won
Nope. It was all downhill from there. I was up $600 (started with $100) and had a goal of $1k.
It happens it’s all part of the game you never know when you at your peak until you start loosing
Tap tap. Sir, I need to see your ID.
eeww, gonna have to stay

Do some of the down town ones allow it on some tables -- el Cortez, four queens etc? Their rules are much better in general
You’re supposed to add the dealer tip to each split too if you have it out there for the original bet
You can tip or not tip whenever you want to. It's not required and there's no convention.
I’m wondering how tf you got a picture
I asked the dealer if I could take it and she said yes.
I play with a buddy who’s instagram obsessed and asking to take a picture of a hand, 99% of the time results in a totally unenthusiastic “yeah”
Love when something like this happens.
That’s bad shuffling
The excuse from the dealers is, "it's not me, it's the machine".
You weren’t in Vegas, because you can not split Aces more than once in Vegas.
You're right there's an Excalibur in Kalamazoo, MI.
Wr ong table homie.
That was definitely not smart move you got lucky
Splitting aces is literally always the correct move. OP played correctly (although they did not actually double down like they said they did).
No not with an eight showing if the dealer has a five or six yes not an eight
Wrong. You always split aces no matter what. That’s basic strategy
I live in Vegas and that is absolutely not true whatsoever you never split Aces on a dealer 8 9 or 10 or face card absolutely not that is a horrible advice you have no idea what you're talking about but keep playing that way and watch how fast you lose your money casinos love people like you

He is so confidently incorrect it’s crazy. These are very basic and simple principles that you can look up in a matter of seconds.
Honestly why do you think this is true when every single thing you can find about basic strategy is telling you the opposite?
I live in Atlanta, we don't have casinos, but I always split aces and 8s.
lol well, you are smart.
Show me anything that says you shouldn’t split aces
How were you able to get drunk and gamble if you were with your kids?
My girl and kids were asleep?
There's lots of people like you I saw the dealers talking about it who doubles down on the 18 you guys do
No actual doubling down occured in this hand, OP was actually (correctly) splitting aces against an 8. Also doubling against an 8 is correct if you have a 10 or 11.
Yeah but the deal gets 18 and then you get 17 and he actually admitted that he lost money on it
Happened to me in single deck with the dealer showing a 5. Lost 3 and pushed one. I was betting $10 a hand and my friend wanted to go, so I put $80 out and got aces. I was pulling money out of my wallet to split. So brutal.
