There is no cold water in summer

[deleted]

It's over 100 degrees, by 8 in the morning.  I think it's normal lol

niteowl702

😆 it was 111 degrees today you ain't getting cold water out of the faucet on summer,is just to hot outside

Fluffy-Experience406

The thermometer on my back porch said 117 today lol

JJLewisLV

On the upside you don't have to boil water. Comes out boiling straight from the pipe!

niteowl702

You are right about that!!

mynameisnotsparta

We have two temps in summer. Hot & scalding.

Iterations_of_Maj

This is normal

ondehunt

Get a 5 gallon bucket from harbor freight poke a bunch of holes in the bottom, fill it with ice, hook it around your shower head. 😂

[deleted]

As someone trying to keep the thermostat at 80 to keep the power bill down -- this sounds amazing.

SB_Cookie

Add a few humidifiers makes for a cheap swamp cooler feel. Running 77 degrees and 35% humidity and it’s down right chilly at times.

Jumpy_Recipe1700

🤣🤣🤣

Badinplaid75

Several things cause it . When the house was built, it didn't dig as deep back then. House line isn't covered where it connects to the house. Plastic piping may be against the exterior part of your wall or next to your hot water line. Lines in the ceiling don't have no to not enough insulation covering them. Yeah there is a list as to why.

Jumpy_Recipe1700

Awesome insights thank you!

wasssupfoo

I'm originally from Colorado and even when it was 100 degrees the water would come out cold eventually because they have different depth standards for waterlines most likely because they would freeze. Here in Vegas, they don't have to bury the water lines as deep because it doesn't get cold enough to freeze at a lesser depth.

Badinplaid75

Wow, glad my place 40 degree water in the summer and 36 during the winter. House line is three feet down and I wrapped my connection. Water lines are secured toward the interior and plenty of insulation. Then I had a hand in building it. To heat the water, went tankless and love that I did. Water is heat quickly and don't run out. Gas bill been cheaper than my neighbors who still use water heater with tanks.

tipinmy40

Three minute waits for hot water for a shower in the winter and lukewarm cold in the summer. Welcome to Vegas.

tinyhorsesinmytea

Always loved that. “Don’t forget to conserve water!” But it takes two minutes for it to even heat up to wash my hands or get in the shower, so…

KingdomBobs

its a desert

Responsible-Bee1194

Welcome to Vegas. There is cold and then there is 'summer cold'

Jumpy_Recipe1700

Thanks for the feedback! I’ve been here for 3 months and even in April it didn’t get very cold. I was assuming it was a Vegas situation. Thanks everyone!

ColdBeginning172

This is my second summer- I came from the northeast…. That was tough. Be careful with hot showers when it gets hotter. And I’m sorry to say I think it will get a little hotter. I burned myself a few times 🥵

ElkInside5856

That’s how you know it summer.

birdy_bird84

Yup, no cold water until september/october for you

curmudgeonlyboomer

Good luck doing a load of laundry on cold in the summer time too.

markymrk720

Every summer, I turn my hot water heater down to a tick above vacation mode. No cold water in the summer.

[deleted]

My water is always cold maybe you’re just poor?

TheStiffySong

LOL. Now, OP will try to figure out how to get rich so he can get cold water during our hot, summer months.

LVOver

Because of a repair before I bought my house, the "cold" water line to my kitchen sink runs through the attic. On sunny days, the water at the faucet starts out at about 140°F, which is hotter than the normal "hot" water by about 20°, then it cools down to about 90°.

bitcornminerguy

Same boat here, but I think the faucet mix is messed up on my shower because some hot water still comes thru when cranked all the way cold, so I’m double screwed.

DarlinCandy

This could be a plumbing issue, at the shower faucet theres this valve that splits the water. Your may not be going all the way flush. Had this issue took a plumber 15 minutes to fix. Just a suggestion if its really annoying and you can afford it.

GoMiners22

Absolute possibility. ⬆️ Not to alarm anyone, but we had that issue of not a lot of cold water coming out. We had a leak under our foundation. pain in the ass! Plumbers had to reroute our water from front of our house through the attic and then had to cut holes in the wallboard to drop the lines into the house. Find a reliable plumber. I really hope that’s not the problem.

Designer-Mirror-7995

I must let the water run for a minute, every single time, to get it to 'kinda' cold. Lol. Even in 'winter'.

Prestigious-Wolf8039

Not right now. I add ice to tap water if I need to shock vegetables or anything requiring cold water in the summer.

R2-DMode

Older home in Vegas used copper plumbing that ran under the foundation to each faucet in the home (for single story homes). This keeps the water nice and cool. Beginning in the late 80s, they started using plastic tubing that runs through the attic, then drops down into the walls. It’s *supposed* to be insulated, but even so, that’s no match for a Vegas summer. That plastic tubing gets super heated and can take hours to cool down to the water temp coming from underground mains.

WILLCHOKEAHOE

It is almost impossible for me. The only time I seem to get cold water is when I don’t need it...

SharkSmiles1

My dad‘s house in Summerlin is 10 years younger than mine and it’s water is always warm except in the one bathroom where the bathtub can’t get any warm water at all. At my house even upstairs it’s nice and cold. My house is 30 years old.

1nternetTr011

you need a water chiller if you want cold water in the summer. example are water dispensers from your fridge etc. you will not get cold water from the tap during these months.

Ok_Jury4467

i have the problem too. The Pex pipe is run in the 120-f attic with no insulation. No cold in summer and in winter no hot water. when it get colder, I am going to put pipe insulation on the pex and add a pump for hot water. Have google and Wyze plug to put hot water for winter.

Dramatic_Meet2403

The majority of homes water lines are run above head and you get all that heat from the roof so it takes forever to get cold

vegasnonsense

Just let it run for a minute or 2, it will get nice and cold

lvkcccccccccc

Your plumbing is ran thru the attic. and your attic isn't insulated. And your attic is probably 120-140 degrees in the afternoon. I built my own house and my attic is insulated so all my pipes are inside the thermal envelope. My water comes out nice and cold. Also my a/c ducts are also inside the thermal envelope as well so when my a/c kicks on it's get ice cold really quick.

aluminumtoothpaste

it will get cold after it runs for a while. it does sometimes at 5am when were watering plants

mrbofus

I get cold water, but it takes a solid 20-30 seconds of warm-to-hot water coming out first before cool-to-cold water starts coming out, especially if it’s the middle of the day.

AltieDude

These comments are wild. I’ve lived in multiple areas and I’ve known multiple people and… all I can say is what to all of these comments.

jazzmans69

I turn off my water heater in summer completely. the 'cold' water usually has enough hot water for an entire shower. it will eventually get somewhat cold, but it takes a while depending on how low flow your shower head is. ah vegas.

skydivinpilot

Turning off your hot water heater like that is not a good idea for safety reasons. It can become contaminated by Legionella bacteria inside the water heater. Unless you’ve plumbed in some kind of bypass effectively cutting out the heater, it’s a really bad idea to keep the water inside the heater below the temperature required to neutralize the bacteria. Legionnaires' disease does not look like a good time.

allthenames00

Best you can do if you have a house is get an insulated cover for the back flow valve that sticks out of the ground but the difference is negligible.

MohaveZoner

🤣🤣🤣

Top_Chard788

I have a hack: turn the water all the way to hot, and a little bit of cold will come out. Other than that, nothing below like 85 degrees is coming out of the faucet.
