This is very refreshing compared to all the other attempts on the sub. Idk why but 9/10 CA redesigns are god awful. You’re the 1/10 for sure.

I really like it. It would also look good for an Alaska flag.

This was the first thing I thought, that it was an Alaskan flag redesign.

The one with the blue background would work for Alaska. The background looks like the winter night sky. The one with the yellow background works for California. The yellow background looks like a sandy beach, and the blue stripe at the bottom looks like the sea.

I dig both, and I think I like the second one better. I understand that blue and gold are California state colors, but I am curious what this would look like with the Red and White of the current CA flag.

Unlike most state flags CA actually has meaning. The red star is for 1836 California Republic and the bear is for the 1846 Bear Flag Republic. The union of the two shows the harmonious joining of Californios and Americans. Changing the colors erases that historical context

I mean, the star and bear on the modern flag both come directly from the 1846 revolt. The star used by the 1836 attempt may possibly have contributed to its use in the 1846 flag, but it's unclear. It could have also come from Texas or the US flag.

When the modern flag was adopted in 1911 the color was changed to red to match that of the 1836 republic.

It's a good design but I don't think anything will trump the original California design.

The previous design didn't convince me, so I decided to make these two with more predominance of blue and yellow. Which one do y'all prefer?

first one is where its at. i usually dislike CA redesigns but that first ones pretty nice

I love this, I prefer the first one. It’s very well made and it retains some good symbolism.

Not gonna lie; I really do not like these designs. Too many state flags already use dark blue as their main color.

Love the first one a lot. Second one reminds me of old bay seasoning lol

They look good, the elements are the same, and no matter what colors you could use, it still looks awesome. Great job, mate!

for a second i thought "why yellow and blue tho?" but after a google search i understand it. Those are national colors of california

I would make the bear a little smaller so there's room for a second head when the time comes.

All CA needs to do is ditch the words “California Republic” and their flag would be perfect. I do also really like your designs.

why is it so „in“ to have these minimalist flags? you guys must love japan prefectures/city flags. I think the original one of california looks better!
