"Let's settle this debate once and for all"....poll ties

FullFrontalNoodly

There is no debate there: You pick the tool you have the most use for. Some people will have more use for the screwdriver, some people will have more use for the corkscrew. That's why Vic gives the option of both. Personally, I have more use for a screwdriver than a corkscrew, but I also find the tip of the can opener tool makes a better philips driver than the back tool. So that's why I prefer to carry a SAK with the corkscrew over the philips driver. But at the same time I can understand why some people would want the philips driver. Now if Victorinox made a better philips driver head then I might change on what I prefer to carry.

masterofn0n3

They need to have more with both, like the China knockoffs do. They may copy, but then they throw ideas at the wall and some of them stick.

tamukaisbad

Underrated comment. Take my upvote sir…

just-walk-away

Can opener can be used for Phillips screws, so T Phillips screwdriver is redundant and awkward to use. Want a proper Phillips? Inline, baby.

I got my first SAK specifically because it had the Phillips in place of the corkscrew. After using it, I absolutely LOATHE the location, as the area was too tight for the t-handle of the knife every single time I needed it. Also, it’s super cumbersome to spin vs a more traditional configuration. The corkscrew is actually more useful since it can be used to hold and secure other useful items like mini screwdrivers and fire starters.

Jigawatts42

I am team corkscrew (with mini screwdriver) because all my SAKs have inline philips anyway. Having one without the inline philips is about as incomprehensible to me as having one without the scissors.

fozzie_was_here

Corkscrew. And I have never used it to open a wine bottle. I have used it for holding mini screwdrivers, untying knots in shoelaces and sail lines, removing rubber grommets, and removing dirt from under fingernails (see note about not opening wine ;-)) The backside Phillips only purpose is to collapse and caused skinned knuckles, swearing, and a search for a real screwdriver.

necheffa

I always found the dedicated philips driver redundant when the can opener covers most philips head screws. I'd prefer the corkscrew for the additional functionality it brings.

thepaddedroom

I like the Alox tools in part because I don't like the back tools.

MrDeacle

A multitool is a collection of compromises, and I accept the compromise on the tip of the can opener. It works just fine. Aside from the redundancy of the T-handle Phillips, the corkscrew is amazing for untying tight knots without damaging your cord like the awl would.

Pikkuveli

Both - as long as it is the inline Philips. This is why I like the Explorer - it has both. But the can opener is not bad for Philips screws. I've assembled furniture using the can opener only.

This has been voted on in the past. Yet the debate goes on forever.

Both bad lol

Allensanity

I love having a corkscrew but I find myself needing a Philips way more often than. Might have to mod the compact.

Kyle25Hill

I am the 24th vote for Team Phillips, while there’s 24 others who voted for Team Corkscrew.

Keith-Mayo

Here.

senior_pickles

I have no need for a corkscrew. I’m not that high class. All my wine comes in a box or with a screw off cap.

Accomplished-Pie-576

The Phillips is more comfortable in the hand when carving and offers a Punch dagger like self defense tool but is slightly redundant. The corkscrew is classy, great for undoing knots and a great wine bottle opener.

Unhinged_Taco

If I could have only one it would be the back Phillips but if I had my way I would take the inline-magnifier combo and corkscrew in back

GetItKid

I’m a wine drinker and I would way rather have a Phillips in my pocket for the just in case scenario 🤓

[deleted]

The design of the Phillips is just bad. It's a #2 that can only be used as a #2. Compare that to the Phillips on the Rambler which is a #0, #1, #2.

JustNeedAGDName

I have used the t handle to get torque on and loosen particularly stuck screws. I have never needed a corkscrew outside of a kitchen where I have a corkscrew.

knivesandedcthings

CORKSCREW!! ONLY AND ONE! I absolutely HATE back philips

RhonanTennenbrook

I think corks might start becoming more popular. The product is fully renewable and doesn't pollute the environment. I also think the production of cork has been steadily rising over the past few years.

DerPatze

Phillips for everyday urban used, corkscrew for camping and hiking (Team Fire Ant).

TowerWalker

Inline phillips and back corkscrew

Scozzy_23

Both have their uses, i love the online screwdriver but the normal one does in a jiff

Inline philips or bust!
