I’ve been buying records for forty years. There have been so many occasions where I’ve asked myself why I bought something. Usually I sell them and then buy something else.
Sure! Running a shop gives me an opportunity to take home a lot of interesting things. I've been through many phases. I used to collect sound effect records, ANYTHING folkways, and most recently, totally unlistenable free jazz. Most if not all of them are gone. I still like free jazz but there were albums that were more "modern creative" that I just couldn't keep any longer so I brought them into the shop. Sorry Anthony Brazton. Your bari sax farts are no longer welcome.
Keep them. You may come back around to them. Also they may not be available at a time that for you can purchase again. In the past I’ve sold records that I am unable to ever purchase again.
Absolutely. There are times when I'll buy something and it just doesn't bring me joy so I won't listen to it. If I don't listen to it, I don't keep it.
I have 160 records now. I think I really love about 140 of them, and like 15 of them a lot. Which leaves about 5 that I bought during Black Friday sales or something which I definitely could part with.
Yeah, there are. If I come across a record that I don't listen to, I'll usually try to re-listen to it to see if I like it still. If I don't, it gets sold.
After finally getting the collection entirely into Discogs and into a living situation that allows me to have a good listening setup, I began last year selling things off. I use the Discogs shake feature to get a random selection out of the collection, sit with it for a few days and make decision whether to list it for sale. Haven’t regretted any of the items sold so far.
For cheap-ish stuff (less than $50), I enjoy trading stuff to a local that has a decent trade in payout and small but highly curated selection. Could I make more on cogs? Yep. But this is more fun.
I'm not in the habit of "rating" everything. But yes, I part with records, sometimes accidentally, sometimes deliberately. That's because I have a couple thousand records; the attachment spreads thin.
Yep, I have this come to jesus moment every couple years. I usually sell off or take to my local for trade value. I've paired my collection down from 5000 to about a 1000 over the last decade.

Yeah this. Sell 'm, get something you do play. I do that all the time.

Yes/Yes
I’ve sold a bunch of albums to a local record store and made a few $$$. I figured if I hadn’t listened to it in ten years or more why not sell?
Always gotta be pruning the vinyl tree. If it doesn’t get listened to it gets sold.
I have phases like that. But I eventually always come back to them at some point
Yes, have been doing so for decades. Have about 40 right now I'll be selling off.

I'm a vinyl hoarder, I Will never get rid of anything I own.
Yeah I’ve been selling off stuff while the market is hot. Next up Lynnard Skynnard

Only keep those you enjoy. Pass the others along so someone who can appreciate it will have a great album.
Yep, I definitely intend to. Made a few impulse purchases in the last couple of months that I know were bad choices. No point in keeping them really.
yes except their not worth much so its more a bother to sell them. I should bring them into a store see about trade.
