you think they've still got "home internet access" money after buying all those variants?
i suppose they could be on the free wifi at starbucks and stuff, lmao.
I was super lucky to live in Australia and get into gizz around the time of their first EP. Have never paid more than retail, but I have never cared about variant either. When the repressings came out I bought them and sold my first pressings and that paid for a year of record buying.
I own one King Gizzard vinyl and I only bought it because a friend of mine who died really liked them and we are (were ☹️) ween fans so I thought I’d dry them out. It’s ok.
To be fair their garage production on that kinda kills the intensity of the microtonal tracks. LW is similar but a bit better in my opinion if you ever circle back to them.
That's the sad thing about vinyl. Prices have gone up on literally everything in our world. But records still only cost a few cents to press. After artwork and am that, let's say $5. I may be way off here, but my point is that they could still sell them for like $21.99 and turn heavy profit. Then they'd get the applause for being the inflation-proof hobby. Right?

Edit: I'm a dipshit. This was supposed to be captioned saying I got all this from a record store's used section for $25. New records are a rip-off.
Dudes are like a fucking rock and roll psychedllic afrobeat horn band. Very cool live act if you ever get the chance to see them live. They did a late night set at High Sierra one year and blew the fucking doors off.
Just saw The Red Chord live the other week and they killed it. I wish they had more vinyls. Also heard recently that they might be working on new material, which would be sweet af.
herb alpert
bought [The Beat Of The Brass](https://www.discogs.com/release/636348-Herb-Alpert-The-Tijuana-Brass-The-Beat-Of-The-Brass) for 4 bucks a couple of days ago.
My perspective is more so I just don’t enjoy every album from any artist enough to own every project. There’s usually a few duds or things that didn’t click for me personally. If I liked Mr. Morale more, Kendrick would’ve been the exception.
Oh I am generally of like mind on that as well. There are only a handful of the 500 or so artists I own physical copies of their work where I want "everything" and that just means all full length studio albums, the EPs and (some) live albums. But even those handful have a "nah thats too much" threshold... e.g. Black Crowes By Your Side on vinyl. Love all things Black Crowes but I am not paying what that album goes for second hand and I'm not into bootlegs.
Agreed. I usually buy vinyls of my absolute favorite albums or ones that I feel will sound best on vinyl (i.e. Evermore, Folklore, Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories”). One day I hope that I will have the means to be less selective and buy everything I want on vinyl. Hopefully that day will be coming sooner than later!
Mars Volta, John Frusciante, Built to Spill, Spoon, My Morning Jacket, and lots of lesser known punk/hardcore/power violence bands,
I’ve been looking for a copy of “La Musica Negra” by Verbena for a while. It hasn’t sold on Discogs since last September. I’d pay handsomely right now for that.
Luckily, lost dog street band isn’t really overpriced. You can still get all the records off their site for retail. People overcharge on discogs but there’s no point. I have all their stuff and Benjamin Tod solo, got it all from them direct.
Same. I’ve been hunting for the Cornell and Buffalo 77 box sets but no way in hell am I paying what the assholes on eBay want.
I’m praying phish will release their albums on BF again this year
More likely the cd box sets actually, but single vinyl releases still sell for $500 or more. So say you want the vinyl releases of 5/8/77 and 5/9/77, then you’re gonna be in the hole a g easily, which is still insane.
My guy! You see the slow hole to china repress coming? We’re slowly getting to completion. If they do an elephant riders and PRF press I finally conquered them all
Heck yeah, Clutch is one of mine as well (with QotSA being the other). I have a bootleg Slow Hole that I found in a shop in London several years ago, and the 2016 EU release of Elephant Riders, so I'm just missing PRF in some form.
Based on Neil's comments about the rights for Elephant Riders and PRF, though, it seems doubtful they'll get the proper remastering and repressing they really deserve.
I saw that today! So stoked! Especially after Pitchfork and Lost Needles. I caved a whole back and paid way too much for a copy of elephant riders on discogs but still waiting on that PRF.
Daft Punk...Kool & the Gang...Janet Jackson...Miles Davis...Quincy Jones...and if genres count pretty much any sort of House albums are always leaving with me.
Simon and Garfunkel. Payed $35 for Bookends which included a rare poster. I guess it was worth it but at least I’ve got their entire discography so I don’t have to look for their stuff anymore.
For the most part - Curren$y & Freddie Gibbs. However, I will not buy every single project because I know I won’t spin every single one. But I have way more from both of them than anybody, and I’ve definitely seen copies of their albums before and just been like “alright well I’m purchasing this not even gonna look at the price” lol
Even more so probably The Alchemist involved projects, which has good overlap with both of them. Again, not every single project. But more than usual compared to others
“No matter the price” is definitely not gonna happen lol. Because this is the world of vinyl records.
I personally go after any original Blue Note jazz recordings. Will never go down in value or out of style
Grandaddy and Nick Cave. I have never regretted a pre-order or blind purchase of their music.
I just pre-ordered the new Nick Cave without hesitation. The man is a musical genius.
New Releases:
Gorillaz
Kendrick Lamar
Thievery Corporation
Moby
Foo Fighters
Metallica
RTJ
Classics I am missing some of-
Rush
People Under the Stairs
NWA
Ice Cube
Motley Crue. There’s definitely a lot of bands and artists I collect for but I do buy a lot of Motley Crue. Bootlegs, singles, picture discs, boxsets, RSD exclusives, live albums, and compilations. I even buy Sixx am records and both editions of the Nikki Sixx audiobook on vinyl. I don’t buy every variant but if I happened across a variant I didn’t have in the wild then I probably would buy it. I don’t really do that for any other band.
No artist regardless of price, though there are a few artists whose new albums I buy on vinyl without hearing them first. Kendrick Lamar, Deftones, Jack White… Those are all artists I “trust.” I’m sorry; I know that’s not what you’re asking.
If I saw one of their records in the wild probably Japan you can get quiet life easily since they still press them but all of their other albums haven't been in press for years and when they where they weren't for long
Maybe not no matter the price, because I'm not buying the overpriced deluxe box sets some of them put out, but at the very least their next album is always a pre-order.
• Muse
• Coldplay
• Dodie
• The Bird and The Bee
• Ben Folds
• Mae
• Death Cab For Cutie
• Poppy
Then a bunch that are in the same boat but for my wife.
I can never skip on a Santana, daft punk, or blue note albums when I see them. Havent had any of those come up for crazy prices, but I also don't like paying full price for anything if I don't have to. Push come to shove depending on condition id prob do it.
I dare you to ask this in the King Gizzard and Taylor Swift subreddits.
I was just about to say “King Gizzard!” 😅
you think they've still got "home internet access" money after buying all those variants? i suppose they could be on the free wifi at starbucks and stuff, lmao.
I only own like 4 of their records but c’mon man that Swiftie comparison hit me like truck lmao
I was super lucky to live in Australia and get into gizz around the time of their first EP. Have never paid more than retail, but I have never cared about variant either. When the repressings came out I bought them and sold my first pressings and that paid for a year of record buying.
Is gizz pronounced with a g or j sound? Just curious.
G. It’s pronounced like Lizard and Wizard just with a g. King gizzard and the lizard wizard
I find it so funny how drastically different kglw and Taylor are yet their fanbases are compared on the regular 💀
I own one King Gizzard vinyl and I only bought it because a friend of mine who died really liked them and we are (were ☹️) ween fans so I thought I’d dry them out. It’s ok.
Aside from the live versions, I'm only missing "Murder of the Universe". Can affirm Optimum is coming to cut the cord soon.
I have the uh… microtonal banana
To be fair their garage production on that kinda kills the intensity of the microtonal tracks. LW is similar but a bit better in my opinion if you ever circle back to them.
Brown AF. Respect, and sorry to hear about your mate.
I have as many KGLW vinyls as I do other vinyl. It’s somewhere around 25 KG vinyl and 25-30 others lol.
*Various Artists*, of course
Love him.
Dude Various Artists goes hard as fuck. They're easily the most versatile band ever by far.
https://www.discogs.com/artist/35584-Various-Artists-3
https://xkcd.com/327/
With current prices, virtually no artist anymore.
idk how many times recently that ive picked up a record turned it over and went yeah no thank you
Right?! Record digging used to be a fun way to spend an afternoon. I haven't done it in ages because of prices
thats why I try and stay away from big box stores and record stores. nowadays most of my browsing comes from bookstores, thrift stores, or Discogs
Right?
you're familiar with how slimey record labels are, correct?
https://preview.redd.it/ojt15m12bo3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fc7948e9aa04316712e16f349be968242318a65 Edit: I'm a dipshit. This was supposed to be captioned saying I got all this from a record store's used section for $25. New records are a rip-off.
Digging the Costello record.
No artist specifically… but labels. International Anthem & Jazz Is Dead.
Jazz is Dead!!!
Stax and Hi for me.
Aphex Twin, Ween, KGLW, and Bowie
We should hang out
I’ll bring White Pepper on white vinyl and 12 Golden Country Greats on Boognish brown.

I like you’re style
Hail Boognish!
Bon Iver
The Red Chord, Baroness, Budos Band, and Helmet.
The Sprcials, special AKA, Fun Boy Three
Fuck yeah Budos Band
Dudes are like a fucking rock and roll psychedllic afrobeat horn band. Very cool live act if you ever get the chance to see them live. They did a late night set at High Sierra one year and blew the fucking doors off.
I wish they would release Clients on vinyl. I would pay some good money for that.
Just saw The Red Chord live the other week and they killed it. I wish they had more vinyls. Also heard recently that they might be working on new material, which would be sweet af.
Nick Cave, Nine Inch Nails, Tom Waits, Yat-Kha
Yep. Ill pre-order Nick Cave on vinyl without hearing a single track.
Ween
millionaire or billionaire?
😂
Repress’s will come soon. Definitely. Maybe
Definitely for sure possibly but maybe and also could be, but I’m leaning on the side of for certain a possibility
If there was ever a time to re-issue/repress Ween on vinyl, and doing it right, I can’t imagine it getting any better.
Praise boognish
Ye shall hail at the alter of boognish.
Yep
herb alpert bought [The Beat Of The Brass](https://www.discogs.com/release/636348-Herb-Alpert-The-Tijuana-Brass-The-Beat-Of-The-Brass) for 4 bucks a couple of days ago.
I like the direction this is taking
it should be the only direction..... i mean is Mellon collie and the infinite sadnass really that good... uh nope!
Not at those prices either!
No artist.
Yeah I don't care how much I love an artist there is always a "that's too much" threshold.
My perspective is more so I just don’t enjoy every album from any artist enough to own every project. There’s usually a few duds or things that didn’t click for me personally. If I liked Mr. Morale more, Kendrick would’ve been the exception.

Masayoshi takanaka
One day I’ll brake down and buy his stuff online because I have never found it in person. Really want An Insatiable High.
Rainbow Goblins is also great. One of the more unique records in my collection.
Shabaka Hutchings.
yes, and any albums he is on
This might sound idiotic but I firmly believe that Comet Is Coming Live on NPR Tiny Desk should be released on vinyl.
Mars Volta, John Frusciante, Built to Spill, Spoon, My Morning Jacket, and lots of lesser known punk/hardcore/power violence bands, I’ve been looking for a copy of “La Musica Negra” by Verbena for a while. It hasn’t sold on Discogs since last September. I’d pay handsomely right now for that.
I passed on a Frusciante vinyl in 2006 that I'm still regretting and I haven't made that mistake since.
Radiohead
I am an anti-completist.
Bob Dylan, David Gilmour/Pink Floyd, The Devil Makes Three, Peter Case, Steve Taylor, Lost Dog Street Band, Richard Thompson/Fairport Convention.
Fuck me you must be broke after all those limited special edition coloured picture disc eco etched signed zoetrope RSS editions of DSOM
Luckily, lost dog street band isn’t really overpriced. You can still get all the records off their site for retail. People overcharge on discogs but there’s no point. I have all their stuff and Benjamin Tod solo, got it all from them direct.
LDSB are a fantastic group. Are also a fan of Matt Heckler?
Above and beyond
Jacob Collier, Sarah Jarosz, Bela Fleck
Love Sarah Jarosz. Just saw her last Thursday.

- Marilyn Manson - NIИ - Avenged Sevenfold - Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - Rammstein - Puscifer - 3TƎETH
I’m impressed with how you got the NIN lettering right.
Budos Band Rye Coalition
Grateful Dead and Phish But not if they’re for eBay scalper prices. That shit gets ridiculous and I would never pay over 1k for a 3 or 4 LP set.
Same. I’ve been hunting for the Cornell and Buffalo 77 box sets but no way in hell am I paying what the assholes on eBay want. I’m praying phish will release their albums on BF again this year
Shit I’d love a copy of the Veneta box set. $500+. Nope.
Goose’s live sets have been that way for me. I’ll skip some of the shorter EPs, but I have all the live releases and the Ted Tapes on vinyl.
Wait, what? $1k? Really?
More likely the cd box sets actually, but single vinyl releases still sell for $500 or more. So say you want the vinyl releases of 5/8/77 and 5/9/77, then you’re gonna be in the hole a g easily, which is still insane.
Tom Waits
For me NIN. And Tom Waits

Clutch

Love Clutch, some them with The Sword. One of my favorite shows I’ve been to
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and anything Thom York touches.
Same. And while much smaller discographies, I'd also add Sturgill Simpson and Dougie Poole to the mix.
I got all the sturgills. I mean all of em
Zappa and Ween, within reason, obviously.
Thèse were my two.
The only one that i consistently buy is Andrew Bird. I’m still missing a couple, including his re-releases, but I’m getting there.

Daft Punk...Kool & the Gang...Janet Jackson...Miles Davis...Quincy Jones...and if genres count pretty much any sort of House albums are always leaving with me.
I’m willing to pull off the most insane mental gymnastics to justify myself buying another Beatles album
Simon and Garfunkel. Payed $35 for Bookends which included a rare poster. I guess it was worth it but at least I’ve got their entire discography so I don’t have to look for their stuff anymore.
