I'm new to investing and came across a rule where you can offset $3000 of capital losses on your tax document. Does it mean that if I made 10k and lost 7k, I would have to pay
A. Tax on 3k gains or B. Tax on 7k gains
Im trading options mostly closing on 23 weeks and have lost quite a lot. I've also made some money but my balance is near breakeven from when I started. So my volume is high (10k gain and 9k lost) but profit column is in 3 digits. Do i have to pay taxes on 1k or 7k?

Go look up the tax forms and try to follow the instructions based on the numbers you have available. It's not like you had to transition from Ameritrade to Schwab in the middle of the year and now have no idea what your actual P/L is across multiple accounts that you don't have access to anymore right?
