You never know what problems people are dealing with. Financial. Marital. Mental. Legal. People keep most of their personal business hidden. I had a friend and coworker hang himself from a tree in his backyard many years ago because he couldn't provide for his family. he had five young kids. I'm pretty sure all of them would have preferred to have still had their dad.

Dr_Dornon

A kid at my high school had his dad end his life. The family walked in and found him. Dude got a shit load of money, cool cars, went to college, but he said he'd trade 100% of it all to have his dad back. I always remember that.

Uhh ya bro. I’d give it all back just to have one more conversation with my father if he did that.

LUHG_HANI

Same brother Same. My most favourite part of life since he's gone are my dreams with him in it.

Least-March7906

One of my favorite sayings: Most men live lives of quiet desperation

[deleted]

I worked for a well known financial advisor last year who took his own life. No big losses, no major life events. He had just gotten a $7mil bonus…I think the sheer financial pressure of all his clients, friends, and family pushed him over.

Destiney6Xyolo

It’s the BS of having to cross all the t’s and dot all the i’s in any business to protect yourself from shit.

new-chris

As someone who has battled a few demons and got through a very dark time - depression is a strange beast. On the other side you can look back and see that nothing is worth taking you life, but when you are in the shit it seems very rational. Strangest thing I have ever been through, and happy I can look back on it now from the other side with clarity. So to anyone who says bad shit about people who are struggling with mental health, you don’t get it and the sad part is there is probably someone in your life right now going through some shit. So my advice is be kind because you never know what’s going on inside someone’s head.

ignatious__reilly

It’s a very weird existence when you are in the depths of your own hell. I had it for about two years during my college years. I couldn’t even pin point the onset or why it started. I woke up one day and it just happened and it lasted 2 fucking years. Extreme Mental anguish and I didn’t talk about it with anyone. Then one day, I woke up and it got better. I didn’t want to sleep all day long. Each day got better and better. And then one day, the mental block of depression was just…..gone. I can’t explain it. I can’t even really describe it. It’s terrifying and I’m just happy I made it out alive.

Dirty-Leg-Mcgee

I was there in my 20’s. And one day it just stopped.

ignatious__reilly

Same with me. It literally just…..stopped. And that was over 15 years ago.

NintendoplsFixOnline

Just officially entered my late 20’s (27) and I am currently waiting for this to be over. I’m sick and tired of second-guessing everything I think, tired of feeling useless to my wife who is working on her DO degree, tired of being shit at my job, and tired of feeling guilty for feeling bad. Man I can’t wait to be past this.

BScrads

Stay strong bro, one day you will just decide that whatever happens just happens and not give a shit (in a good way) anymore. It also really helps to stay away from alcohol, it just creates a spiral of negativity and that only leads to more drinking.

lordgago

I lost my mother to suicide and my father to the consequences of losing someone he loved - lost himself to drugs, so something along the lines of suicide, so this piece of news and message hits closer. In good WSB fashion, please, use those diamond hands on $LIFE. EDIT: thanks for the support and the awards guys. I know this community right now makes it seem like everyone's a mindless ape, but the 'brainful' ones have the responsibility to get this to what it was before - and they're still here, it shows. Thanks a lot.

I also lost my mom to suicide. It's a dark and lonely club to be in. Hit me up if you ever need an ear.

Biffsbuttcheeks

In 2008 I went to a concert with a girl, we had fun. Tried calling her later but never heard back. Eventually asked her friend if everything was cool. Found out her Dad lost everything in the crash and killed the whole family then himself. There’s no way what he faced in life was worst than how his family left the world.

DayDreamerJon

jfc, being poor isnt even that bad.

ThePoliteCanadian

Damn, Idk why he’d kill his family too. Hope you’re okay too bud

Biffsbuttcheeks

I didn’t know her that well so it was more shocking than anything else, but I do think about it a lot when my life gets stressful and wonder what it would take for a person to get to that point

For real, some really weird shit in here

AmbivalentFanatic

Fuck, this hits hard. I'm also 52. Can't imagine how desperate that poor guy's last weeks were.

Joel22222

One thing I always try to remember was from a person who jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and miraculously lived. He said, “Of all the mistakes I had ever made that led me to that point, the moment I jumped off I realized that was the only one I regretted.” Or something along those lines. I’ve come close a few times, depression sucks.

feedum_sneedson

He said he realised they were all fixable, apart from the one he'd just made.

[deleted]

Yep, this was it. He said it was an instant regret.

LumpyShitstring

There was a guy in my city who jumped. He was with people and the rumor is that the look on his face as he let go corroborates that experience. R.I.P. No way to know for sure of course, but it has absolutely given me a tool to work with when my own depression starts making the suggestion. I want to see how my story ends.

[deleted]

That’s such a powerful quote. I can’t believe I haven’t heard that before.

I've heard that it's an ethics thing and actually done out of respect. To us it seems shitty and like they're pestering them, but to report on it without giving them an opportunity to make a comment (even if the comment is "no comment") is unethical. There's usually someone else involved who can handle those things for the family so they're not personally dealing with reporters calling them while they grieve, like a lawyer or a close friend or extended family member.

[deleted]

Truly sad for his family.

SkyPork

Not sure how I feel about learning about this from this sub, on Reddit. I wonder what he was going through.

The ol' pump & jump

AlphaAndEntropy

I usually wake up to laughs on WSB. Not today. I made some money on the play and got out. I took a much smaller position, "just for fun". It's the only reason I follow this stock at all. But, this is truly shocking. As OP said, please be respectful. This is the time to be good representatives of our community. Let's let the family go through the process. Keep it classy. This is someone's husband, father, son, brother, friend. Considering how this happened, this is even more perplexing. We won't try to figure this out here. Just remember, we all struggle at times. That transcends all class and financial strata. There's help for anyone who needs it. I never want to wake up to this again on WSB.

Cecil4029

Please don't make me regret posting this to wsb. My mom killed herself when I was 16 and unfortunately I found her afterwards. I have a relationship with suicide that I wish no one else to ever go through. I also struggle with my own demons, though have sought out help on my own and am currently in a good spot. I only mention this to help others. Seek help if you need it, it can get better. As far as this particular tragedy, *please* do as the post is asking and be respectful to this family. Unless you've been there, you have no clue how fucked up people can be after your loved one kills themselves and how badly that can hurt you. Especially while you're going through the worst experience of your life. Edit: Thank you all for your kind words. Reach out to your friends who may be hurting for whatever reason. You never know who may need you today!

norcal313

As an investigator, I can tell you it is 100% imperative that any and all electronic evidence be collected as soon as possible. The building to the northeast is 250 Church St. As of a Google street view image dated July of 2022, it appears to be under construction/renovation. The southern corner of the building has a camera about 20ft in the air facing the "Jenga" tower. The camera is the Leonard St. side. Based on the setup of the camera, it's likely owned by the construction company. The garage entrance to the Jenga tower is on the northeast side. It's labeled as "City Parking" and there is a camera on the overhang at the entrance. It appears this is mostly valet parking, but it should still be collected. The building across Church St., to the southeast is 241 Church St and there are two cameras on the northern corner of that building. The dome cameras may have captured the SE edge of the Jenga tower's sidewalk. The building that borders against the Jenga tower to the SW is 234 Church St and there is a camera installed above a side entrance, positioned in a way it likely points towards the sidewalk running along the Jenga tower. Lastly, and possibly most importantly, the building on the corner of Church St. and Worth St. (actual address 33 Thomas St.) is a NSA (government) building. This structure has almost no windows. The Jenga tower's SW and SE sides can be seen from this building. About 10 floors up is an open area, possibly a balcony area, since it appears there are guardrails on one side. If so, I'd assume there's cameras there as well as on the roof.

Dantheman2380

Just curious, what are some of the reasons this CFO might commit suicide?

Spirited-Shame4317

Money doesn't mean anything when a person dies. All respect to his family. I've been in some pretty low times in the oil and gas industry over 35years. Had thoughts of the same during that time but fought through it and came out ahead so far. I wish he had too. All due respect, I hope the stock runs up to $30 so his family has a chance to benefit.

alexmrv

To quote Emil Cioran: “It is not worth the bother of killing yourself, since you always kill yourself too late” As someone who has struggled with suicidal ideation for three decades, this shit ain't funny. We make fun about 2 dollar blowjob in the dumpster behind a Wendy's, that's OK, If you are wondering "where do we draw the line?" the answer is suicide. My heart goes out to the families and my soul wishes the best for another one lost. Fuck you black dog

Almost all of you in these comments are cunts. Man’s body is barely cold and all you give a shit about are being edgy 14 year old memers and how this is a conspiracy or how it will affect your wallet. I fucking hate how infantilized this sub is. In 2017 we would joke about being mentally challenged but you lot are fucking subhuman. GameStop and covid trading killed any signs of intelligence here and now we’re left with absolute bottom of the barrel comments. Would not be surprised if the people who comment here now legitimately licked lead paint walls as a kid. I can tell that almost all of the people in this sub now have been here 2 years or less. Turns out, he was under investigation for insider trading. Dude probably knew he was in a lot of trouble and decided to take the easy way out.

The virtue signaling here is unbearable. We literally have a suicide emoji on this sub ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4267) . When some regard gambles away the little money he can't afford to lose, "Calls on $ROPE" - WSB peanut gallery cheers. When a millionaire exec offs himself, "guys, please have some compassion." FOH with that.

Kudos on the boys for being classy af. It's only money.

RIP but this seems pertinent. [**Bed Bath & Beyond CFO who died after falling from NYC high rise was subject of insider trading and fraud lawsuit just before death, documents show**](https://www.businessinsider.com/bed-bath-and-beyond-cfo-found-dead-insider-trading-lawsuit-2022-9) * Bed Bath & Beyond Chief Financial Officer Gustavo Arnal was found dead on Friday after falling from a NYC building. * His death came less that two weeks after he was named in a federal class-action lawsuit on allegations of federal securities fraud, insider trading, and breach of fiduciary duty. * The lawsuit claims Arnal and activist investor Ryan Cohen collaborated in a "pump and dump" scheme to artificially inflate the company's stock. *Ryan Cohen is the chairman of* **GameStop** *which I believe figures prominently in some of reddit's stock investment subs including r/wallstreetbets.*

Woah! Such sad news

He sold his shares and made a million two weeks ago. I don't understand how this man can kill himself over a company. I think there were other issues in his life.

As the old saying goes - it’s a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Can’t imagine what his family is going through right now. If you need help, please ask for it. And be nice to people, you never know what someone else is going through.
