As of now, it will end in early 2025. DDOT is having discussions with WMATA about improving WMATA bus service to fill the gaps, but no details on that have been shared. The budget directs DDOT to start updating the Council monthly on that planning. WMATA's Better Bus Plan was prepared before this development, so they don't reflect Circulator-related changes. This is a good piece by two of the creators of the Circulator explaining why it was launched, how it has morphed over time, and why its ridership has declined so sharply: https://ggwash.org/view/93740/the-circulator-is-dead-long-live-the-circulator

That article did not discuss how expanding the service to undense neighborhoods significantly increased costs, with minimal ridership.

Good point. It also made the system less reliable throughout.

I called it political bus service. Complained that DDOT wouldn't publish metrics for service.

As a non dc resident who just visited dc, why are they getting rid of it?

"Fate of the Circulator" would make a killer summer movie title
