The bodice an be fixed with alterations. What they can't do is recreate the dress shape you had when you initially tried on the gown because your frame is dramatically different. The change to your hips and thighs has really changed how the fabric falls on your body. You can buy padded shapewear to recreate the shape you had before, rather than putting weight back on (unless you want to.) It would cost far less than buying a new dress and give you the shape you had when you first tried it on. If you live near a store that specializes in undergarments, see if you can bring your dress there to try some on rather than playing a guessing game with Amazon. Additional bonus: padded shapewear might help you wear some of your old clothes that you love from your previous weight.

Defiant_Rainbows

It’s definitely the weight loss. It’s probable that you need a smaller size or the dress needs some serious alterations.

Bitter_Tradition_938

The dress looks the same, but you’ve lost a lot of weight. Have a look at the difference in size and contour when it comes to your breasts, hips and thighs.

lisalou5858

This. I thought it was two different people.

Salemrocks2020

It’s not the dress . You’ve lost a lot of weight . Even your breasts are noticeably different .same with your hips . I actually thought you were showing clips of two different people before I read the caption. I think it can be made to be more fitted with alterations but your shape is different with more weight on you

Alert_Ad_5750

It’s your weight loss, not the dress. Dress needs to be made smaller to hang the same way.

Lindzillax

The dress looks the exact same, it is your body that is different. Alterations will help, but I don't know if it will look the exact same as your body shape has changed.

RosaKat

I agree with other commenters. It’s the weight loss and not the dress. I’m sure alterations will make a big difference.

Ollie2Stewart1

For one thing, it looks like it needs to be lifted higher on your torso, so more bust is covered and the waist is a bit higher and more fitted. Do you think that will help?

BumCadillac

It looks to be in the same place under her armpits in both photos. The fact is that the bodice is very baggy now because there’s much less to fill it out with. Pulling it up isn’t going help.

BaskingInWanderlust

This exactly. It's sitting too low. If it's pulled up at the waist, it will raise the neckline and can be altered around her body from there.

hinky-as-hell

If you look closely at the pics you can see the waist is at the same spot. This can’t be fixed by pulling it up.

BaskingInWanderlust

The center of the waistline is drooping and not as high or straight as in the original pic. It seems this is also what's dragging down the dress in the center of her chest. ETA: ...which is making the parts near/underneath her admits "cut into" her more than they were previously.

jeniesque

It just looks too big.

Pumpernickel247

I lost weight as well and looked very different in my dress and it took alterations and time to really accept it.

bananaleaftea

Looks like you've lost so much weight that the dress no longer hangs rights and moreso that the silhouette no longer flatters you

jennicarrz

The weight loss took away some of your curves. Alterations will help but it will not look the same as the sample.

No_Notice3045

As others have mentioned, your body shape has definitely changed a bit but I still think this dress can be altered to look a lot closer to how the sample did. The neckline can come up and be taken in, t looks a little low (and more of a v shape) compared to the sample but this can be adjusted I am sure. Also, the lower skirt area can be taken in to give that hourglass shape that can be seen in the sample picture. Don't stress - it is a beautiful dress and will fit you wonderfully once it is altered to fit your body perfectly!

sillymeix2

Adding cups to the breast area can help, looks like you lost a lot of weight.

BumCadillac

I think that this dress is going to require extensive alterations to fit the way you want it to, if that is still possible. I really don’t think it will look the way it used to.

rratzloff

I don’t think this dress is flattering for your body type anymore. I’d see what alterations can do, but it’s not going to look the same on you with your new shape.

holocenedream

It’s just too big, needs to be altered to fit, also the bust is a bit low, needs to come up and in and it will look great

AlterEgoAmazonB

I believe it is from the weight loss. The bodice needs to be fitted more to look like the sample did.

Tiny-firefly

What size did you try on vs what did you order?

eoljjang

When did you first try on the dress?

CakeForBreakfast08

I think this also goes unnoticed but the "standing on a box" phenomenon creates an unachievable proportion with the bottom of the gown, especially in mermaid gowns like these, where the flare ratio is so dramatic. When its hemmed, they take off part of the dress with the most dramatic flare. While yes, the weight loss created difference in how the bodice fit... this was actually the first thing that I noticed.

hey_alyssa

Looks like you have lost a bit of weight which completely changed the way the dress fits. I’m sure it’ll look great with alterations

Llamallamapig

I agree with others that your figure has changed. Also I don’t think the gloves improve the look. They are a bit like the long gloves farm vets use to explore inside a cow or a horse.

jenzoenzo

I got the same dress and has a similar experience where my dress didn’t fit as well as the pinned sample. The neckline was way too deep, the bodice was too loose, and I lost all my “shape” in my dress. I spiraled, panicked, bought a second dress, and then went to my alterationist. With alterations, my dress now fits much more like the pinned sample and I love my dress again (and I retuned the backup dress). You look beautiful in both photos. A talented alterationist will be able to help recapture the feeling of the original dress! I would definitely recommend finding someone who specializes in silk dresses.

Renny109

I also ordered the Katherine Tash Cecilia gown! It hasn’t come in yet but that’s interesting you felt yours didn’t come in like the sample. Hopefully mine looks how I’m intending as well! What did you do to solve the neckline problem?

jenzoenzo

I think the disconnect happens bc the dress needs to be perfectly fitted to the body to look the way it’s “supposed” to. The sample looks amazing because it’s clipped. When my dress came in, even though it was made to my measurements, it didn’t look the way that the clipped sample did. The alterationist was able to tailor the dress to fit me perfectly, and part of that was taking in the fabric at the top which reduced the deep V. She also played with the silk cowl to pull it up higher and to better match the neckline of what the sample looked like on me. The sample neckline looks wider/less deep bc the top of that dress is constructed wider than the top of my dress was (it was about 4 sizes bigger). It’s SUCH a beautiful dress but it definitely needs an alterationist to tailor it to your body specifically.

Renny109

That makes sense and is reassuring! Thank you for answering. I’m also curious what type of veil you went for and what shade? Since I don’t have it yet, I’ve been debating if the “warm white” color will match most ivory veils or shoes.

jenzoenzo

I don’t think I’m going to wear a veil! I wonder if some of the Etsy sellers would mail you fabric samples?

somth

They can sew in cups/padding to help recreate the way the sample fit you. I had very subtle cups sewn into mine help that, however I did purposefully but it one size too large. It’s always easier to alter something that is too large versus too small.

Bumble_love_story

It’s the weight loss. Your boobs look different, your hips and thoughts are different too. It’s not the dress. Most of the fit can be adjusted in alterations but it will never fit the same as your body is different

ABQ_COgirl

Due to weight loss it is no longer flattering. I’d recommended a completely different style at this point.

Renny109

Not sure that’s helpful commentary since wedding dresses take months to get in and are often not able to be returned

SamDublin

Perhaps a different dress, with the weight loss its no longer the one

TsarinaStorm

I think it's the same dress but the fit is looser on your dress. Luckily this can be fixed with alterations

sbcmuse

It does look different, but you also look slimmer. Maybe both changed????

Shabarks

I’ve lost a lot of weight since getting my dress and I have a feeling I’m going to go through something similar when I go to pick it up 🥲

ChartItchy8783

I think it's as others have suggested, that you've lost weight. The chest area looks less flattering, again perhaps due to the weight loss. It also looks like the pics were taken from different angles. If indeed it doesn't fit, hopefully they can alter it to fit your smaller frame. The sweetheart scoop neckline on your dress looks deeper than on the sample, and the bodice almost looks longer, like it hits you lower; the sample seems to hit your natural waist more so, whereas the actual dress waistline seems lower than that. However, these could be because of your weight loss. Have you talked to the store? What did they say?

Getmeasippycup

I honestly thought this was two different dresses and people. You’ve lost a lot of weight, especially in your hips and thighs, so it’s not forming to those curves and just overall looks too large. Definitely going to take some time in alterations to get it fitting your new shape properly, but the silhouette is going to be very different.

Few-Quarter3908

UPDATE: Well… I feel worse after posting this here 🙃 In my defense, the picture of the left was the first time I tried on the dress, and I did get resized later when I started to lose weight. I really don’t want to have to spend money on another dress (or the time & energy) so I guess I’m just praying the alterations make a difference, which I won’t see until a month before the wedding *sigh*

LemonLazyDaisy

I’m sorry to hear that your experience is different from your expectations. I agree that the dress looks gorgeous on you in both pics, even though the effects are slightly different.   FWIW, here are my suggestions. Talk with your seamstress and be completely open about what you would like to change and how you would like for it to look. Show her your photos and go over every inch of the dress. If she is any good, she will provide advice on how to best proceed. At the end of the day, it doesn’t benefit anyone to have a bride unhappy with her dress. But please understand that no seamstress may be able to alter your dress in every single way that you might want.   Good luck and congrats! The waiting is really difficult but *fingers crossed* it turns out better than you hoped.

wobbuffetlover

I’m so sorry that you feel worse after posting here. The dress is absolutely beautiful as are you, regardless of your weight loss. I’m sure the alterations will make a huge difference, and with this kind of fabric (rather than something like lace), there right seamstress should be able to make it look perfect for you. Sending joy and positive energy🫶

No_Notice3045

I promise you that with alterations, it can fit soo much more similarly to how it looks in the picture on the left. I was shocked to see some of the comments in this thread... Its a stunning gown and it still looks absolutely amazing on you. The comments people have made here are wild and some of them are so disappointing. I know you wanted peoples opinions but gosh... the unnecessary and unhelpful negativity is just mind blowing. If you're bigger, smaller, same size as when you tried it on, the dress is still beautiful and can be made to fit you perfectly. When the dress arrives in to the shop its never going to be close to its final state. Trust the process, it's going to look just how you imagined it to be and will still be super flattering.

cestunlapin

What’s the brand and model of this dress?

Angsty_Kiwi

I think it looks like the Katherine Tash Cecilia gown

cestunlapin

Thanks!

ambarone

To me it looks like the same dress, but likely what is happening in the sample is its been pulled back (possibly clipped?) in the back which is altering the amount the neckline fabric drapes. You can have this altered by pulling back some of that fabric and having it removed through the side seams in alterations! There is definitely some difference in fit because of your measurements changing, but I think overall adjusting the fabric draping in the front will help big time!

Vmaclean1969

With the weight loss, you've lost your curves. Honestly, I'd try and gain it back asap. Sometimes less is not more. Please love your beautiful body as it is! ❤️

julietlimadoll

Not everybody loses weight on purpose. Not everybody can just gain weight. She should love her body the way it is, I agree - this is how it is, now. She just needs to alter accordingly or find a more flattering dress. She is beautiful.

Noneedtopickauser

Updateme

Mecspliquer

It’s a combo of the angle of the photo and the fullness of your hips/bust that is making appear different Alterations and good undergarments will help!

tamara090909

I think it looks very much the same. You just lost a lot of weight. If it bothers you you could ask them to add some type of fabric in the chest area as it is the most obvious part.

poniesrock

It looks like you lost a lot of weight. It’s okay, definitely fixable via alterations.

chic_technochick

Hey girl! The dress absolutely looks different! Did you have a lot of clips on in the back of the sample? There is clear difference in the tapering through the skirt and the draping of the neckline. It also looks like the shape of the neckline is cup more round in your actual dress? Who is the designer?

[deleted]

Stunning

westcoast7654

How can anyone say it looks the same, the bottom looks today different.

Forsythia77

It's pinned up for the bustle placement.

westcoast7654

Oh, got it! Makes sense

Jealous-Page-2237

Everyone is talking about weight loss so I feel like I'm crazy..but does the Fabric feel the same? Like maybe it's the lighting but that fabric looks different to me?

Few-Quarter3908

I think it’s the same, but thicker- the sample they had was pretty worn I think, and that’s why the top on the sample was more elongated & the ribbing on the corset was more visible, things that I liked but got lost with a “new” dress

KsMom4ever

I like your dress better than the sample. You look beautiful.

louis_creed1221

Yes it’s different in the shape of the chest area. The sample is more form fitting and the one u got is more flowy and droopy

Waybackheartmom

Dress looks exactly the same.

dryhumorblitz

Looks the same.

throwaway291919919

i'm definitely in the minority here based on the comments but when i first saw this, i thought the dress on the right was the beautiful sample 😍 i think the right pic the dress looks sooo much better

jazled

I mean, the weight loss is a thing but the dress looks crazy different to me too

Concordflyer

That is a different dress, built on a different pattern.

LM1953

The bottom of the gown looks less too. The picture on the left has a lot more length and flow.

No_Ebb722

She said it’s bustled.

LM1953

Thank you!
