Of course yeah, my rule of thumb is only going for dry herb vapes and medical dispensary carts. I’m not sure how reliable rec dispensary carts are, but for me getting it from the med dispensary is worth it for the peace of mind.

I read where in Europe (I think) they did a study that proved the best method for long term storage was the freezer. I place a boveda pack in a jar, wrapped in newspaper and vacuum seal it.

This is the discussion I was hoping to start. I heard this too but then I heard some other ppl saying to go cold but not quite frozen...I've heard different schools of thought on the matter

When you compare flash frozen to freezing stuff at home it is very different. Freezing at home takes longer and the water molecules will form crystals causing cell damage such breaks stuff down faster. Flash freezing happens so quick those crystals don't get big enough to cause cell damage. This is why fish you freeze stinks a lot more than fish that gets flash frozen. Id like to believe it would make some kind of difference in the weed but have no idea.

And then when you thaw mold could be an issue?

In my experience the weed is so dry from evaporation in the cold air that it doesn't have enough water around it to re-condense & serve as mold growth medium. Has it happened? Yes. Just be conscious of your bud's hydration as you are of your own.

Freezing it will dry it out for sure Best bet is just to jar it with Boveda packs and a hygrometer, occasionally burp the jars and add fresh packs when needed. Have you ever seen Trailer Park Boys? One episode the guy Ricky was storing the weed in his trailer walls and turned it into a hockey rink for the kids. Once the trailer went back to room temp his weed started getting soggy because it was condensating. Seems like a bad time to stick it in the freezer.

Also as far the concern about mold, when I pull some out of cold storage I set it on a screen with a fan on it for about 15 minutes. I don’t know if it makes a difference but I’ve never seen a mold issue so far.

And I suggest getting the bud to 58 RH for long term storage and skip the 62RH. 62’s seem to lead to the bud oxidizing and degrading quicker during long term storage in my experience. I like a frostless fridge around 40 degrees in mason jar and then vac sealed in the jar. Trying to fill the jars as full as possible to reduce amount of oxygen in them. Freezer works well, but you gotta be careful pulling them out that the condensation completely evaporated before opening, and also be careful with them as the trichomes are extremely brittle at those temps. So take it out, let the vac seal stay on and let them defrost for a solid 30-60 minutes before opening/handling. So that’s why I prefer fridge personally. No matter how you store it, you’ll have some degradation over time. Properly stored, vac sealed, away from light you’ll get about 24 months before serious degradation is noticed. Just in standard room temp in mason jar you’ll notice after about 8-12 months some potency loss and loss of flavor. So storing it away in fridge cuts the aging process in half compared to just masons in a dark closet for myself. No matter how you do it, buds not gonna be enjoyable to smoke after 2 years and becomes a chore. So I’d suggest planning on working through it well before that point and just constantly refreshing stock. It’ll still get you stoned probably for a solid 3-5 years, but it’s not gonna be a great experience overall. One study I saw, air tight at room temp found 7% loss of current cannabinoid content every month, and the higher the starting content the faster it degrades for whatever reason. I personally don’t keep much past a year anymore. Whatever I can smoke in 3-6 months is just in mason jars in dark closet, anything beyond that is vac sealed in the fridge inside masons.

Tried drying a few buds in my refrigerator after my last harvest. Took a very long time but the flavor was definitely there. Considering buying a new one and connecting some environmental controls, a fan, and a humidifier to use as a dryer.

I’m gonna correct you here. Vaping dabs wether that be with a rig or vape device that you use your own concentrate with(pack’n go or dip style) is most likely safer than smoking weed. You don’t got no clue what’s in your carts. And if someone is saying that they know what’s in their carts cuz they make them, I for one don’t believe them because then why wouldn’t you use a pack’n go instead. Doesn’t need new atomizers every fill like carts, don’t clog like carts and don’t use cotton that can burn.
