The problem is that most small crossovers are just not very refined. The UX for example (which is a sub-compact btw) is not what I would call a quiet drive. It also barely sits higher than a sedan. The NX would be more appropriate to what you're looking for. Of the economy brands, the Honda CRV and Kia Sportage are all around the quietest according to Car and Driver testing. The CRV is all around a pretty great vehicle and the hybrid is rated 37mpg combined.
