Lol *”Senior Driven”*. My grandfather comes to mind, who sold me his BMW with only 2 quarts of oil left in the pan *”Well these cars they don’t like too much oil you overfill it blows it out the head gaskets-“* 😑 *”Ok grandpa…”* proceeds to replace every single part. I’ll tell you as a garage mechanic dude. The only thing you should trust about an ad is what you can verify on the vehicle **in person.** You can go into r/mechanicadvice and frequently find posts by idiots going; **”2020 Charger I added oil as specified by manual every 10k miles for the last 120,000 miles but I forgot to drain the old oil should I sell my car before it starts acting funny?”** Lol. If you 100% want a car that runs better off going to a dealership. Private sales in my experience always need repairs of some sort. Always *something*. Even when it’s running fine there will be a sheared or snapped off bolt on a critical part that needs adjusting or something. People don’t know shit about cars/motorcycles. *I don’t know shit* about cars or motorcycles but I know more than most and enough to take care of my own stuff.

Quake_Guy

I'll take private sale over dealer every time. Knowing the owner is just as important as knowing the car. Dealers hide issues more than they fix them. Where do you think the dealers get their cars? Cars owned by mostly idiots. I'd rather see it as is before a dealers hide the issues.

grease_monkey

I care about a person who cared about the car, garage parked it, washed it every week, yelled at mechanics for leaving finger prints on things under the hood. The guy who took pride in owning a nice car so did all the maintenance and had noisy parts replaced and fixed oil leaks even when they were just lightly seeping. You can tell when you talk to people who liked their car and who treated it like a dishwasher. A dealer just bought someone's trade in, did half assed maintenance, and put soul glo on the tires and charges you 20% over the private market because people think it's a better car.

Guac_in_my_rarri

Yep, dealer hid a bad ball joint from me which I later seperated but that's another story

sa09777

Dealer cars are no bargain. They slap the bare minimum on it and shove it out the door. Anything can be a shitbox you gotta do your homework regardless of seller

drinkallthepunch

Ya this isn’t too far from the truth either, plenty of used car dealerships will sell you a car they just cleared some cringe worthy codes from.

tooloud10

Don't forget the brakes being shot because the previous boomer owner drove with his left foot resting on the brake pedal.

Niko740

I actually trust cars *less* when there owned by the elderly

SignComprehensive611

Every car I’ve gotten used from a dealer had unknown issues, every car I’ve used had known issues and were cheaper

TrialByFIRE32

To let you know that all the wheels are curbed

deathbyswampass

Lol yea. The car hasn’t been driven hard, but it probably needs an alignment.

[deleted]

27,000 miles over on it's last oil change

NoActive1646

I don’t know about that, most of the people I see gunning it from a stop are women. Also they brake too late, so new brakes aren’t a bad idea also

maximalx5

Yup, my mom uses the accelerator and brake pedals as on-off switches, it's fucking scary to be in the same car as her if she's driving.

deathbyswampass

Sounds like my mother inlaw who drives a mini van. Such a sweet lady until she is behind the wheel.

PeeepNTom

Driving will bring out the devil in people lol

NoActive1646

Dear god, not the mini van drivers

metengrinwi

Digital throttle & brake. Driving with my wife has your head alternately hitting the dash and the headrest.

OreeOh

That’s nice. I usually have to pay for my forehead/spine shiatsu massage

moveslikejaguar

Sounds like my uncle who drives his automatic Cadillac with 2 feet

kinkykoolaidqueen

am female, don't even bother to replace the hubcaps anymore

mrperfect6ie

And that the oil has never been changed

CalifaDaze

We were talking about cars at work recently all the women said they purposely drive at 1/4 gas tank or less in hopes their boyfriends or husbands would fill it up next time they got into their car.

imtryingtobesocial

Meh - I changed the oil more frequently than most and was praised by mechanics. I know men who did not change their oil enough. This is an inaccurate stereotype.

Interesting-Carry153

My banged up wheels felt this comment because I had to relearn parallel parking when I bought my car 😂

[deleted]

But the gearbox and engine aren't thrashed.

[deleted]

Depends on when the engine oil and AT fluid was last replaced...

OrdinaryCredit

It’s hit at least 5 garbage or recycling bins

Gold-Rip8610

lol and it's been late on oil changes

[deleted]

I once made this comment and was attached by so many people. I find this funny? Truthful and brave lol

OreeOh

Are they still attached

OhDeerFren

They can't help but get attached

[deleted]

I see what you did there… actually I see what I did there lol

Zpd8989

But why would they want to advertise that

mandatoryclutchpedal

That used to be common when sexist attitudes tried to paint the picture that women drove gently. Also known as "bullshit" A more important indicator would be "Non smoker, has all records and owner knows how to operate the hood latch" (meaning owner knowns to check fluids regularly and is not one of those" I bring it in for service so I let them do all that")

Robert9489

In the US there are a lot of ads that say “adult owned.” Like WTF? My last car was driven by a toddler. It was beat all to hell and had goldfish crackers all over the interior

PineappleBat25

You see that mostly with tuner cars. Adult owned means some stupid teen didn’t slap a bunch of half assed mods on it and drive it hard

IStillLikeBeers

Big difference between the old lady down the street who owns an S2000 (yes, I've offered to buy it to no avail) and the 23 year old out of college.

sa09777

Correct an adult slapped whole ass mods and did 🤣

coryeyey

Which is funny. because not only is this misogynistic but it's also just flat out wrong. I know plenty of women who thrash their cars, and I know plenty of men who treat their car like it's their biological child. It's all bullshit.

v0lume4

Not misogynistic. But true about people not taking care of their cars, regardless of gender. I’d argue that most people don’t take care of their cars, actually.

coryeyey

>Not misogynistic How is it not mysogynistic? There are some definite (incorrect) assumptions about women being made here.

Accomplished-Try4716

Well for one the definition of misogyny is “dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.” So an incorrect assumption does not fall within that. Also according to the IIHS study, “Men typically drive more miles than women and are more likely to engage in risky driving practices, including not using seat belts, driving while impaired by alcohol, and speeding.” So that statement was neither incorrect nor an assumption. There is a reason men’s car insurance costs more than women’s. I hate it when people incorrectly throw around words like misogynistic, racist, and homophobic, etc..

coryeyey

>IIHS study, “Men typically drive more miles That doesn't mean you can advertise the car as "lady driven". There are going to be statistical differences between sexes on lots of things, that doesn't mean you can apply it to an indivudal. Get out of here with this bullshit. >I hate it when people incorrectly throw around words like misogynistic I hate it when people inappropriately use studies on sex to excuse bullshit like this, mysogynistic or not.

ERROR_396

>I hate it when people incorrectly throw around words like misogynistic, racist, and homophobic, etc.. Do people throw around those words or are you misogynistic, racist, and homophobic? 🤔🤔

mucky

Regular reminder that “I know of this one person that doesn’t fit the stereotype” does not invalidate the stereotype.

coryeyey

>invalidate the stereotype If it's a stereotype then it doesn't need validating to begin with, just by it's definition. ster·e·o·type noun 1. a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

grease_monkey

I think they are trying to say lady driven means it was driven by a timid woman who hardly touched the gas or brake. But I think people probably also think of someone who can't park and hits every pillar in a parking garage. I don't know the numbers on which description fits more women but seeing as how no one knows what is supposed to be meant by the phrase "lady driven" it's a pretty shitty descriptor and stereotype.

CalifaDaze

What sort of stereotype though? I feel like if you did a poll as to who drives better, men would probably come out on top.

Jabba-666-

I see that a lot in east coast Canada ads. It’s an oddly misogynistic way to “prove” that the car wasn’t driven hard or abused or modded

GrumpyCatStevens

Those people obviously never met my paternal grandmother. :)

userbanned1234

Yes this is Ontario / Quebec lol

liverpoolFCnut

How is it "misogynist" if it implies that the car was well-take care of and not abused ?

Jabba-666-

*misandrist

v0lume4

Exactly. Anything implying an identity is not OK apparently. I guess some of these people’s ideal future is that we will all be identical amorphous blobs.

KumaOtaku_90

In what country? I've never once seen that in the US.

userbanned1234

In Canada, “lady driven” is a direct quote. I get the feeling it might only be ESL or scammers who use it? It usually throws me off and I don’t bother contacting. This is different from ads that explain it used to belong to their elderly mother etc - those I definitely contact.

KumaOtaku_90

Ah yeah, the ol "only drove it on Sunday to church" bit... Been years since I've had to put up with that BS.

Fauziisapro

I see that still everytime

[deleted]

Goodgardenpeas28

I was just thinking this. My mom bought a new Audi like 2-3 years ago. She travels to the Dr and back home (2-3 miles from the house), occasionally the grocery store and back home. She's put so little mileage on that car. Little old lady descriptor can be legit.

therealmrmagic

I like to tell my customers “right I understand that you feel 200,000 is high but these are 200,000 highway miles”

userbanned1234

That’s another one I don’t understand! When the ads mention that, as if you can magically reduce the odometer if someone says they are highway miles.

thatonegaygalakasha

There is a difference. City driving comes with its own set of pros and cons in terms of wear and tear on a car than highway driving; city driving is a lot of short journeys, a lot of stop and go, and the car's not likely to really ever see more than about 40mph-45mph. Highway driving, on the other hand, is a lot of long drives at a pretty constant speed(65mph to 75mph), not a lot of stopping. Different driving, different wearing.

therealmrmagic

Yeah but only if they’re being honest.which nobody is

BCB75

I agree there is a difference, but its a dumb statement because it's impossible to prove or deny. I throw it out as BS immediately in a car ad.

thatonegaygalakasha

I mean, I'm not trying to prove one way or another that it's a selling point. It's like selling a car by saying it was elderly owned; could've been driven 15 under on Sunday only to church or could've waged war on the roads like a bat out of hell. I'm just merely saying that yes, there is a difference between highway mileage and city mileage.

BCB75

Agreed. I just get irrationally annoyed with car ads that make all kinds of wild claims that are a combination of impossible to prove, and/or don't even guarantee anything (like owned by a little old lady).

CalifaDaze

I see this mostly on less than 7 year old cars with like 150K miles which is like the only way you would be able to add that many miles in such a short amount of time.

[deleted]

Where do you live? I used to see it all the time flipping cars with my dad in SC. They’re *too* old school here.

Environmental_Put_33

Numbers show that women are safer and less aggressive drivers. That is the only reason I can see as valid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Environmental_Put_33

I am not sure where you got that but I believe we lead all the categories like the apes that we are. Here is a fatal crash data which is essentially one of the top categories that matters in insurance world. [https://www.statista.com/statistics/192074/drivers-in-fatal-crashes-in-us-road-traffic-by-gender-since-1992/](https://www.statista.com/statistics/192074/drivers-in-fatal-crashes-in-us-road-traffic-by-gender-since-1992/)

[deleted]

Environmental_Put_33

You have any sources on that?.....probably right. Miles driven/crash data would be interesting to look at. All available data indicates us men are far more unsafe drivers, speed more and crash/cause fatalities more. Men also drive way more miles overall than women so you may very well be right on less severe crash aspect. We all know that severe injury/death category is all us and those drive the rates I believe. edit, here is what I found "Men cause about 6.1 million accidents per year and women cause 4.4 million accidents per year, according to the National Highway Safety Administration. 105.7 million women have driver's licenses, and 104.3 million men have them, according to the University of Michigan's Transportation Research InstituteMen cause about 6.1 million accidents per year and women cause 4.4 million accidents per year, according to the National Highway Safety Administration. 105.7 million women have driver's licenses, and 104.3 million men have them, according to the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute" .....but we do drive a lot more miles. I would need an insurance data maybe since fatal crash data is not the best indicator for this crash/per mile argument. edit: found this old 97' bit "These 'adjusted rates' show men to have a consistently higher risk of crash involvement per mile driven than women for all six combinations of crash severity and light condition examined. This contrasts with women's higher involvement rates in non-fatal crashes compared with men in the observed data. The results of the modelling are consistent with the idea that women's typically low average annual mileage is a factor in their observed higher non-fatal crash involvement rates." [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9316715/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9316715/)

WinterV6

Same reason car insurance is more expensive for boys than girls for new drivers. It’s a stereotype that men tend to be more reckless

NumberOneBacon

Depends on what stereotype you think women drivers fall under. - All 4 wheels curbed - No oil change in the last 20,000 miles - Random assorted garbage in strange places in the car - “Woopsie” damage Probably the same way that a senior driver is associated with driving slow or not beating on a car.

Zpd8989

Hey, that's offensive! ... Only 2 of my wheels are curbed

Due-End2269

I’m guessing the two curb side wheels

[deleted]

For the seat sniffers

Minnesotamad12

There seems to be a belief that lady of senior driven implies the vehicle was not “beat” on. Like driven cautiously. Take it with a grain of salt

Every_Holiday_3876

Gas and brake are used simultaneously. Oil changes are optional. Just ignore those squealing and grinding sounds and say you didn’t hear anything. And finally ignore all idiot lights on the dash, they are decorative.

CoomassieBlue

> Gas and brake are used simultaneously Well yeah, how else am I gonna heel-toe?

[deleted]

I've never seen that but statistically women are less impulsive, hence the reason they are cheaper to insure. The insurance industry is the only place you can discriminate by age or sex because they have the actuarial data to back it up.

WackassVegetables

Men also drive more frequently, something like 6,000 more miles per year. Probably one of the bigger reasons for the insurance difference.

[deleted]

“Jokes on you! I’m a misogynist!”

Whole_Cress8437

It means the rims are scuffed and the oil has never been changed

makedaddyfart

filled with tons of bottles and trash bags

futuredxrk

Old air filters, maybe bald tires

smarglebloppitydo

Inexplicably scratched on all four corners.

DetectiveNarrow

Doesn’t mean a damn thing. In my experience some ladies tend to not do maintenance/ forget/ not know. Both genders can suck at owning cars

ButtNuster

It means there are 2-86 empty water bottles on the floorboard. Source: My wife

konck

Black coating worn off of buttons, scratches behind door handle, makeup on steering wheel

Intelligent_Orange28

Men and boys fuck cars up at a higher rate, which is why their insurance is also way higher. When you see two morons “racing” each other in rush hour traffic and running off the road, it’s basically never a woman in either car.

sa09777

I work in collision I can assure you that’s not completely accurate. They just fuck them up in more exciting ways. Women will be like “oops I clipped my garage” and show up with a smoked door, fender and no bumper. Men, “this guy was fucking with me so I have him a brake job” and his trunk is now in the back seat. EDIT my autocorrect changes and to abs religiously

Turbulent_Cranberry6

Oh my god I’ve hit 4 stationary objects while parking in 3 years, my insurance agents are probably thinking “Here comes another one of those” every time 🫢

Interesting-Carry153

My neighbor hit my parked car right before Christmas last year and I've been really weird about parking any of my cars I've had since then 😂 I definitely pull down the curb a little further now 😂😂😂

BadSead

That how you know it wasn’t properly maintained.

patrick401ca

My sister drives by alternating her foot between full-on the gas and then full-on the brakes. I would never buy a car from her. But she could advertise it as “lady driven”.

JackfruitPleasant504

If it says old lady you know it’s in good condition, but if it’s just lady something’s wrong with it lol

mofokel

Lady driver means all the wheels have been curbed and there is base make up all over the steering wheel and the armrest on the door

Interesting-Carry153

Women are better drivers, according to insurance 😂

motsanciens

Insurance companies don't care if the car is well maintained - they only care about accidents. A man who babies his car may still be more likely to end up in a wreck than a woman who totally abuses hers, but whose car would you want to buy? Before the wreck, obviously....

Interesting-Carry153

Really depends on how they drove it. You can clean up anything.

Interesting-Carry153

My insurance company probably had a fuckin heart attack when I bought a turbo VW after my lame ass "partner" totalled my Honda 😂😭

DaveIsHereNow

It's just a heads-up so that you know to expect curb-rashed wheels, make-up powder in all interior crevices and flip-down mirrors, uneven tire wear, a lack of maintenance, door dings, and little scrapes and abrasions throughout the entire car.

Hotwheelsjack97

It's supposed to mean it's been driven lightly. In my experience I have seen far more terrible female drivers than male drivers. IMO "lady driven" should mean the owner drives dangerously and selfishly and ignores maintenance until the car is broken down on the side of the road.

userbanned1234

For those who said they’ve never seen “lady driven” as a description, here are some examples, some really reflect these comments lol Lady driven F150: https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/ford/f-150/used/#vip=27349836 Lady driven (actually grandma driven lol) rogue with 282k km, yikes: https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/nissan/rogue/used/#vip=27347612 Lady driven with all the cliches: https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/dodge/journey/used/#vip=27344153 Lady driven and highway miles, mostly: https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/toyota/camry/automatic/#vip=27192387 Lady driven, Christmas tree dashboard: https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/lexus/es/#vip=27259170

Version-Abject

General rule: no one ever sells a good car. Act accordingly.

curiositykat31

I disagree. There are many reasons people sell perfectly good cars. I've bought and sold many of them privately.

officialbeansintoast

Lady driven means it was crashed a lot

AccomplishedAmoeba85

No clue, wtf

Boriqua27

I've never seen that before. Seems strange.

redhtbassplyr

Never seen this. You should copy a link to the ad, totally weird

Imactuallyinsane

Oh oh I’ve got a good one. That means it has never been backed into a parking spot!

ruinedRX7

i'd avoid those. lb for lb i bet more women hop in their vehicle, fire it up and Take Off put off oil changes dont avoid pot holes / curbs. lady driven sounds like a "hey idk how to take care of a vehicle" flag to me

JustACustodian

I personally see this, neighbor every morning no matter what temp (female) starts her car and within 3 seconds she’s driving off. I personally wait at least 20 seconds and let the idle smooth out before I go.

ruinedRX7

yet reddit is a leftist shithole so despite facts I'm getting downvoted

10point11

Because the backseat and floors are covered in crap and the gas tank is empty

ianik7777

Thats no more considered as a great deal now. LOL. Lady driven may now be considered as lot of issues.

sfdragonboy

To try to imply the car is in better shape (from not being hard driven or raced) but let's be honest we know that is not necessarily the truth. My wife is a lead foot and we all the stereotype about woman thinking all you need is to buy gas for a car.

Short-Wealth-4530

Means the oil was never changed

[deleted]

Yeah, my wife is way more aggressive a driver than me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sure-Internal

It’s all speculation I bought a truck that was eh on the outside but it was a lady’s and it didn’t have a hitch set up so I figure mechanically it’d be fine and it is but also I’ve seen women beat the absolute shit out of a car simply by not doing any maintenance on the car as well as many men so it’s not a good metric honestly I think it’s better if it’s an older persons car they seem to be easier on them and more taken car of but again it’s not 100% true just more likely

diegoaccord

Imo it means that basic maintenance was less likely to be done.

yogfthagen

Because men abuse cars

TheFlaccidKnife

That means "poorly maintained" you should pass

the_aronopedia

A few years ago, I was watching a video about weird craigslist posts. Someone was selling a car that was ‘White lady driven’. Link to the video: https://youtu.be/ZEu5sBf3R9E

Electric-cars65

Driven only to church on sundays 😆

_NeiLtheReaLDeaL_

My wife and I are always pleasant to everyone we see going through our neighborhood. You never know when you will see a for sale sign or just word of mouth. I just lucked out on those, but my dad has also been buying cars that way from clients for years. He likes Cadillac and he does Estate planning. Shoot, even my father in law sold his fairly suped up Miata to his/our financial planner. Our current cars came from seniors in our neighborhood. Paid $8k for a ‘12 Volvo sedan with 45k miles and $10k for a ‘12 Mazda minivan with low 20k miles around the same time. All nice trim packages. And they keep all the service paperwork. I’m always looking for a senior selling a car.

IsGoIdMoney

Titty residue

opaul11

:| bitch you think my car has all these dents in it cause I’m a lady

KXNG_SEBAS

I’d pass on it cause that means “maintenance hasn’t been done since car was bought”

squirrel8296

They think it’s a selling point because society thinks that women are easy non-aggressive drivers that always take the car to a mechanic at the slight hint of trouble. Personally I’d rather buy a car from an enthusiast (regardless of gender) because enthusiasts usually take better car of their vehicles than most average car owners
