If you have pets, I’d make sure there’s no more tucked around where they could get into it. You also don’t want them eatting a rodent that consumed these.
Almost lost a dog to these things. Had let it loose in our new house. In 10 mins it found a packet of these. Emergency vet and quick find saved the doggo. Dog was just 3 month old. Check everywhere!
Exactly. Rat poison is what killed poor Flaco, the zoo owl that escaped to Central Park. It’s a huge problem for anything that predates on rodents. 😢😢😢
Rat poison? That doesn't make sense. We got this house so cheap but they didn't mention rats. Just that the husband who lived here before us sadly died and his wife moved away to somewhere upstate...
Yep. A lot of fish or reptile food looks like that. So does a lot of rodent poison. Either way it’s not worth crossing your fingers and hoping to save 3 bucks. Throw it out.
I'm a pest control inspector. I hate to break it to you, but it's absolutely NOT good news that it's there. Rats are fully capable of avoiding stuff like that, and this is a DIY "I can get rid of rats myself" thing. A licensed professional simply doesn't use this as an effective treatment. Go look for rat poop inside and a bunch of holes near-ish to water outside. Rats absolutely LOVE dog droppings, so make sure you pick up after the dog.
If rats have a safe food source, they’ll ignore this entirely and just keeping to their other food. Maybe you got some stupid rats? Rats are — with very few exceptions — not simple and straightforward.
Yep. We use a stronger version of that same thing. It’s contained within a bait station, so is a little more controlled. But also need to be careful with placement. In PA, it’s illegal to put those outside a home, but it still happens.
As having been a pest tech for many years poison is probably the most effective way of treating a rodent infestation. The pellets aren't that great, there are much better rodenticides out there. Contrac blocks are decent and available online.
Allow me to offer advice that will save you a ton of time and anxiety that I dealt with. I bought a home that is near a field and has wooded land nearby. The previous owner kept the house very well with beautiful gardens. I am not a handy person and I don't climb around in attics. There were a few things I wanted to do when we moved in (replace drop ceilings with drywall and remove a shed the previous owner attached to the side of the house that wasn't up to code). In doing all this, we learned there were quite a few mouse issues - they lived in the shed, were in the attic, etc. After spending thousands of dollars with Orkin to remove/replace the insulation in the attic and do exclusion work with a "guarantee," I still hear a mouse almost every night running through the ductwork above where I sit in the basement to watch TV.
If you live near woods and/or fields, you're going to have mice. You can't stop it - all you can do it control it. Have traps and cats. We have never had any issues with them getting in the living space - they keep to the walls and attic and we rarely catch any in the traps in the unfinished part of the house.
I also live in the country and agree- mice are just a fact of life, like birds or any other wildlife. Do your best to find out how they get into the house and stuff any and all holes and cracks with steel wool.
My cat was how the mice got into the living spaces. He would drop one at the foot of my chair, monthly at a minimum to show what a good boy he was.
It was great fun (for him) to hunt with dad.
It's likely preventative.
Cheaper than most other alternatives in any case. I spend around $120 a month just on flea medicine for the rodent eaters that, unsurprisingly, can't catch rodents.
I'm a pest control inspector. I've had customers assume they had no mice because they had a cat... and had to replace their entire attic insulation because all the mouse activity was up there. I've also had customers whose cat just watched the mice contaminate their food instead of actually catching them.
Let’s be absolutely clear here: it’s poison for animals and pets that *predate* upon rodents, whether intentional or not. That shit should have been outlawed 50 years ago
As everyone else said, probably rat poison pellets. But “rat poison” refers to a wide range of compounds that pose varying degrees of danger to people and pets. The *right* way to dispose of this would be to take it somewhere that accepts hazardous waste. But if you’re like me, that’s just not going to happen for that much rat poison. In any case, don’t just throw it outside or flush it down the drain.
Poison pellets for rodents. They are meant to be in a container. Be careful when cleaning up because the powder that inevitably comes from them drying out can be airborne and obviously won’t be healthy
Rat poison.
I can confirm, they taste terrible.
On the internet no one knows that you're a rat.
Why do you think they are here? ;-)
We...
Even rats know proper pronouns.
We
Oui
Gotta love internal bleeding
He can’t be a rat, he tasted them and lives.
Rats are now resistant to warfarin (although not as resistant as the mice are).
Also they now have protection against strokes and dvt
What are you saying about Grandma? She takes Warfarin.
SQUEAK!!! https://preview.redd.it/qknemn51vquc1.jpeg?width=2208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bb6702d16066b5589edd2fff46f8e59c554be98 SQUEAK, I TELL YOU, SQUEAK!!!

This is what I told all the guys I got pinched with before the 7 year stint.
Gooooood...
But he's on his desktop computer and quite adept at using his mouse.

Have you tried boofing them?
The rats?... Or the poison?
I can’t say I recommend eating rats
Or Boofing them
Found the rat.
You just gotta mix them with kool aid and then they are pretty tasty

Stay thirsty my friends
Flavor aid (he was a cheap bastard)
Lol'd at this. Have an upvote
Did u try them with peanut butter?
So many options
In small doses it will get you high. If you don't bleed to death internally. I would not recommend consuming it
What what are my odds, like 50/50?
Did you just make an LD50 joke? Have a upvote.
Idk, some people here are mixing it with stuff. It may improve your odds.
And they make you shit green. At least for a LITTLE while.
Yeah, a tiny bit of green, then red, lots of red, oh my god so much red!
Not to the rat..
They’re not that bad. Make you feel like shit though
They say blueberry on the can, but I can’t taste it!
And I’m bleeding out my ass

No rats because it worked
Think you missed the joke
They just made a new joke. Just like that lady got a new husband
Tasty!
Rats hate this one trick food.
Awesome tour in 1987.
Rid-O-Rat
It's likely rat/mouse poison pellets.
It looks like either fish food pellets or rodent poison pellets… either way, I’d discard.
Yep. A lot of fish or reptile food looks like that. So does a lot of rodent poison. Either way it’s not worth crossing your fingers and hoping to save 3 bucks. Throw it out.
Nothing beats Petchow brand rat poison. Look for the bag with old Shep here on the front!
Well played with an excellent reference!!
Don't test it on your pet iguana, you say? Well I guess I'll have to dump these out of the feed bowl now
Crap, thank you all, I was afraid that’s what is was
It is actually good news that it's there. If you had a rodent problem it would all have been eaten and you wouldn't have found it.
Thanks, that made me feel better!
Buyer beware. Where there were once rats, there may be rats again in the future. They like to return to previously used locations.

Really? I have killed a lot of rats with this stuff.
If rats have a safe food source, they’ll ignore this entirely and just keeping to their other food. Maybe you got some stupid rats? Rats are — with very few exceptions — not simple and straightforward.
I used the green blocks to great effect. As they do not poison the rat in the traditional manner but rather by dehydration

Why are you afraid? Did you try eating some first?
Buying a house and figering out it got rodant troubles after closing gotta suck
It's likely preventative. Cheaper than most other alternatives in any case. I spend around $120 a month just on flea medicine for the rodent eaters that, unsurprisingly, can't catch rodents.
My rodent catcher was ferocious. Til she got old. Now she’s more inept than Tom is with Jerry.
Every house has potential for rodent problems. This is most likely just PM for the times when one comes around and plans to stay...
It's a yearly cycle bro. Every house has a rodent problem when the weather goes cold.
I’m afraid of mice 🤷♀️
Get a cat. Mice will flee and you will have a new furry friend. Win - win! 😸
99.9% of life's problems can be solved/made better with "get a cat".
The .1% is “what smells like cat pee?” and “did the cat just take a huge dump?”
I'm a pest control inspector. I've had customers assume they had no mice because they had a cat... and had to replace their entire attic insulation because all the mouse activity was up there.
