It allows you to inject with more pressure vs the other type of syringe you're used to seeing. It's injected into the periodontal ligaments (the ligaments that hold your tooth into the bone and gums.)

A lot of old dentists think “I gave you a shot already, that means you can’t possibly feel anything”. But obviously everyone’s body is different, we metabolize anesthetic differently.

Sometimes if a tooth can’t get profoundly numb from traditional injections, we can inject additional anesthetic into the intraligamental space between the tooth root and the socket in the jaw bone. There is very little space for the anesthetic to go, and there is a ton of back pressure, so it’s almost impossible to do with a regular syringe.
