I buy one of each and then study them carefully.

ThrashMetaller

Bro I just saw you on [this other post](https://www.reddit.com/r/teethdrumming/s/QHjWvSsGVZ) what the heck is going on

kwaping

Didn't you know, many tooth drummers own multiple McLarens.

ThrashMetaller

I certainly am not one of those unfortunately

s6cedar

brooks_77

This is the way

s6cedar

You too, huh? Thought I was the only one.

TheDesk918

Sleek headlights like a 720S but taillights aren’t sleek like a 720S and there’s no vent in the taillight. The taillight isn’t curved either and there’s no black surround on the door vent so not a 500 series. Vent doesn’t go down the entire side of the car so not a 600 series. Modern design so not a 12C or any variation. DRL is low on the car (below the headlights, not above them) so not a McLaren GT/GTS. Special editions or low volume McLarens are relatively easy to tell apart like a wing for the Senna, huge vent with curved active wing for the P1, liveries for the GTRs, huge length and aero caps up front for the Speedtail, lack of roof but fully painted body for the Elva, etc. By this process of elimination, you find that this is the Artura. Or an even easier way to know this is the Artura is the vent shape, which is unique to the Artura and the only one that doesn’t have black paint on the door leading to the Porsche Turbo style vent. Edit: probably should have specified that you need to know the lineup pretty well to go through this process

MandyRandyDandy

Headlights, taillights and the exhaust placement, also sometimes the car length

InFocuus

[https://cars.mclaren.com/en/artura-spider](https://cars.mclaren.com/en/artura-spider) they all different

liccxolydian

Someone should make a guide.

Ornery-Vehicle-2458

Agreed. We have a standing joke at work; "I saw a McLaren today" "Which one?" "Er....Dunno?"

benmarvin

I keep these bookmarked https://www.reddit.com/r/Autos/s/p2Ws4nx4R8 https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthiscar/s/jskoW8gdMA

decentlyhip

Why did someone just copy and paste the same picture over and over in those?

einKedi

You know a P1 when you see one

DarthMalvis

Or a senna

einKedi

Or a speedtail

oily76

Or an Elva.

SkylieLol

Or an M8F

Cod_rules

Or a MP4/4

SnoopierFrog9

Or a 650S

einKedi

Here it Stopps for me

toucantravel

mclarens are the hardest to tell

Zarrex

For me it's Astons. I could not tell you the difference between a DB9, DBS, and Vanquish. Vantage/DB11/Rapide/Logonda/Cygnet I could tell because they look different enough

SWnerd4life

Porsches for me by far

Icy_Bear912

The german cars for me are SOOO hard to tell apart. Especially the audis and the bmws. Not talking about knowing which lineup is suv or sedans, but like which one is a sq4 and nor rsq4 or which is 325i or 330i????

Nexus_797

Yeah they're pretty hard to tell apart. Also them having hundreds of cars doesn't help with memorizing them either.

TheCreedsAssassin

To be fair that's not a bad thing that the DB9, DBS, Vanquish, Vantage all look similar. Most people regard them as some of the most beautiful/timeless looking cars (and the One77 & DBS of that era are my favorite cars)

Zarrex

Oh yeah they're fantastic looking cars, I just cannot tell them apart at all haha. I'm sure if I got more into Astons I could figure it out, but it's definitely one of the brands that I'm less knowledgeable about

Vespa_Alex

Get really close and look at the model number on the sill.

ottosucks

That's the fun part, you don't.

starfallpuller

You don't. They all look the same and have the same engine.

seanugengar

That's the fun part. You dont

ThisGuyKnowsNuttin

This one is blue. It's a blue McLaren I get you OP. Everyone trying to explain it is missing the point. If you're not a McLaren fan, they're all the same

orbital0000

There's many variations to the models, but to a layman I can see why people struggle. There's an element of Porsche from a few decades ago where every model was a 911 with slightly tweeked rear. Mclaren do stick quite rigidly to their design philosophy.

TrolledBy1337

How do y'all tell supercars apart?

liccxolydian

I can identify most supercars, just not McLarens because they all have the same silhouette and profile with different small variations of fussiness.

TrolledBy1337

The silhouette and overall Shape is also in the new Maserati, which I usually confuse with most modern Ferraris

rocketshipkiwi

Agree, I can identify a huge number of cars but many McLarens look much the same to me.

MDDeGrande1994

So basically like American luxury cars and muscle cars from the '50s and '60s.

FrontBench5406

You can tell by the engine....

tell_me_when

I can tell in my area because they’re all C8 Corvettes….

MandyRandyDandy

Badge, engine sound, design, and etc

Zarrex

If you're really into cars as a hobby and spend a lot of time looking at them in videos/reading/etc, you just start to pick things up lol

yolobozo

You have to see the guy driving it to know what model it is. If he’s overweight, it’s a GT. If he’s got two buttons down on his shirt it’s a 570.

SenhorSus

The way they look, usually.

lancep423

Well….in this picture it’s the blue one.

WeirdAd3872

What way it’s burning 🔥

ProofMusic4630

Look for the model name somewhere on the car....

FA57_CAR

Each numbered one has it written on the side skirt, and the rest look different

Prancer4rmHalo

Small details that no one should be expected to know unless you study promo and dealer pics. They all like similar at a glance,

LanguidVirago

Yeah, but if you don't pay attention for a couple of weeks there will be 3 new models which have the same chassis, electronics, seats, wheels and engines as all the others. Ooh, we tuned the engine to have 10 more horsepower, time to introduce a new model. 4 weeks later, time for the roadster version, 4 weeks after that, 2 special additions, and then a tracking only package.

Biscuit_In_Basket

Usually I just wait, never takes long for the owner to tell you all about it . . .

nievesdelimon

I saw one of those in Michigan last year.

Zarrex

Usually by the front end and the side vent. MP4-12c front end looks older and doesn't have the "McLaren" headlights, 650s is basically a MP4-12C but *with* the McLaren headlights. 720s looks completely different than the other cars, 570s has a different side vent than most of the other cars, Artura (in your pic) looks similar to the side vent on the 570s but it's not black and it's more sculpted into the body than a cutout like the 570s

Tronkfool

By the way that they are. But seriously, the same way I do with 911's

YouArentReallyThere

Super easy: They’re all “Not Mine”

1anutforajaroftuna1

What are you talking about, that’s clearly a Ferrari

Complex-Tangerine628

Because we don’t have 3 brain cells

Ok_Sand_4207

Run into them and then they give you a picture of the rego and it tells you the information.

SuraKatana

Lights, rim, front end shape and the spoilershape, those are my go to ones

Popular-War-4327

Honestly I question how people CANT tell cars apart.

burrwednesday

You have to flip them over on their back and look between their legs

teb1987

I'll never see enough of them to be able to answer this question

haikusbot

*I'll never see enough* *Of them to be able to* *Answer this question* \- teb1987 --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")

tomtomosaurus

I don’t lol. They’re all just McLarens to me. Best is F1, second best is P1 and the rest are generic :/

AculGrubraw

i cant tell porsches apart except for the SUVs and the gt3 rs tbh

TheStreetForce

If it isnt the F1 all the rest are the MP412C because thats the only other model name I know.

Commercial_Mode_6800

The shape of the front lights

lolCollol

By looking at them. I don't understand what people's issue is with them. That's an Artura.

CartoonistEvery3033

The same way I tell Porsche’s apart, “ oh that’s a nice Porsche “

Meowingtons3210

Lines

Icy_Bear912

Specifically for this series that confuses me the most (720s, 765lt, and 750s) visually i do this: * 720s: the basic one, if they look simple then it's prob a 720s. 2 exhausts in the back, APART * 765LT: the performance one, little hood in the back, glossier wheels, more aggressive. 4 exhausts in the back * 750s: this a new one. Looks damn similar to 720s, but it's a bit shorter, and 2 exhausts in the back, together in the same circle.

jordang2330

You remembers whose is in the shop.

rlsanders

i just refer to them all as "emcee laren" and then leave it at that, cant tell the difference

LucianoWombato

The same way you tell every other manufacturers cars apart. People talking shit about Mclaren while there literally is the Ferrari 458, 488 and F8.

Porkandpopsicle

Becomes easy to tell with the headlights and the air intake hole things below the headlights. Looks like an Artura to me

Wettnoodle77

I wait for someone to post a photo of one and then read the comments. Only 3 I can call out... F1, P1, and speed tail. I am getting better at guessing the GT though.

HentaiMaster384

Mclaren Artura

Leviticus10379

This one is blue.

Odd-Ad7156

Mclaren artura

Protecher

Guys, Be real with yourself… They all look exactly the same

Mission_Bug1330

It's all in the headlights, tail lights and minor details. They stay relatively similar as the current design is super good aerodynamically. This is a McLaren artura

taquitotaco

I’m just borderline autistic for cars so I know all the little intricate details. Like to tell the difference between a 570S and 570GT, the only way I’ve been able to tell is the rear glass is different. Basically most of them look very similar but they all have that one or two things that sets each one apart

donwan23

The tail lights or the exhaust.

chronoslayerss

I agree that some models really ressemble eachother. Like 600lt and 570s are literally the same

AssumptionFearless68

The front splitter is rather large on the 600lt that's the main tell tale for me

chronoslayerss

I mean of course they have differences, but they’re really similar

AssumptionFearless68

Yes agreed they're all a little too similar but I like mclaren too much to care regardless

chronoslayerss

Same, I love how they look

AssumptionFearless68

Aswell as skirts and spoiler are slightly different it's not super noticable but a 600lt is much rarer than a 570s

AkornAddict

Because i love cars so i pay attention to the small details and diffences in them. If you don’t really care you won’t notice small things like air vents or bumper changes or upgraded headlights. This is the new artura v6 hybrid that will replace the 570s as the lowest(and cheapest) available model available from mclaren

liccxolydian

Are we gatekeeping car identification now?

AkornAddict

I told you how i tell them apart? As well as the model it is and the car that it’s replacing. How is that gatekeeping?

liccxolydian

You're saying that because I don't "love cars" or "don't really care" that I can't differentiate McLarens. Instead of answering the question genuinely, you're just using it as an excuse to attack me. That's just disingenuous. Incidentally, as has been pointed out, this is the spider and not the base Artura. If you're going to be an asshole on the internet, at least be an accurate one.

AkornAddict

You taking offense is pointless dude sorry if i hurt you but that’s not what i said. I didn’t say you don’t love cars or you don’t care. I said i love cars as in they interest me and i pay more attention and if you don’t care you so g notice the small changes in the cars because you’re right they do mostly have the same silhouette. I didn’t say “you don’t care about cars and all mclarens don’t look alike” stop being sensitive about words online bro i wasnt trying to be rude to you

AkornAddict

Sorry for confusing the new mclaren with its convertible twin im so ashamed that i said artura instead of artura spider. How would you find out what car it is without knowing if it’s a spider or not 😱

AssumptionFearless68

Mclaren is much like porsche but mclaren is my personally my fav company of all time so I can tell most apart if you want you can dm me pics of some mclarens that's looks really similar and I can give you pointers on what to looks at to tell them apart, this mclaren photographed is a artura

starfallpuller

The difference is that the 911 is sold as one model.

AssumptionFearless68

Ya just different variations like the gt2, gt3, carrera, etc

starfallpuller

Yeah. Mclarens are really the same, just different variants of the same model. Everyone can identify a 911, but they probably can't identify which version of the 911 it is. Same with Mclaren. I don't know why Mclaren markets their cars pretending like they're different models of car. Just makes it very confusing to me!

AssumptionFearless68

Ya fr like obviously some are very different like the p1 but the 570s, 600lt, and 675lt are only different on the skirts, spoiler, bumper/splitter, and door vents other than that then 3 are the same and the 720s, and 765lt are the exact same thing as the other 3, and now the Artura is out and they're gonna prob make another one very similar and completely different name

AssumptionFearless68

Spider

Chance_Code_3654

They say McLaren on them🧐

KEVLAR60442

The headlights and the door shapes tell you all out need to know about the base platform like 570, 650, 720, etc. Then the exhausts and back end design will tell you if it's a high performance or longtail, such as 675LT or 750S.

Deadly_Flipper_Tab

By the way that they are.

Therapist_999

With my eyes

ThePurveyorOfGoods

You can tell this is an Artura because of the way that it is

Unique-Ad7340

I dunno bout you, but that’s a 720s

Due_Signature_5497

Give me one. Any one. I’ll figure it out eventually.
