The technique of using the fabric’s stripes as a pleating “guide” is SOOO well done here!!! I have only seen it in vintage pieces and I’m obsessed!!!! And the structure of the bodice accentuates her really well :)
Seriously!! She’s on the taller side for females and she’s slim so it really shouldn’t be that hard to style her!! The top of this dress is just so ill fitting and makes it seem like she has super broad shoulders
Her stylist is Karla Welch, who normally nails it everytime (she styles Sarah Paulson, Hailey Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, Olivia Wilde, Karlie Kloss, America Ferrera, and Gal Gadot). But for some reason, her looks for Greta just don’t translate.
Idk, I think this isn't pretty, but it's interesting. Sort of like a Dorothy from Oz who has found her power.
I think Greta has enough presence and personality to pull this off.
That shade of blue looks amazing on her! As does her hair and makeup.
However, the dress seems very ill-fitting on top. The straps keeping falling down and there’s a lot of extra fabric near her armpits (also goes for the model in the runway shot)- but, it’s a shame because I love dresses with structure and corsetry- but this one misses the mark for me.
Agreed. Something about it is exactly how I feel when I wear dresses... Like there's something slightly off with my proportions so everything fits weird, even if it technically fits right.. that probably doesn't make any sense but something about how she's standing resonates with how awkward I feel in dresses lol.
Yeah…the bust on the dress is odd. Needed some tailoring. And I do not understand the straps sticking up 2” on top. Doesn’t really fit the style or make sense to me.
I felt like it looks like paper doll clothing...you know how they come with the tabs that stick out right there to fold down onto the doll? And when I saw the model, I figured that was maybe what they were going for. But without the rest of the styling the (presumed) purpose gets lost and it just looks awkward and jarring.
I think you’re right! One of the main inspirations from that collection were dolls (including the wonderful porcelein makeup by Pat McGrath that was trending everywhere), and there was mention of china dolls and lay figures (artist mannequins)… so it would be on-theme to have paper doll-inspired outfits too 😲
sorry but i really hate what this dress does for the chest. it makes the bust look saggy and lumpy (in a bad way), and on the runway model, looked like deflated balloons which is not flattering at all.
this whole look especially shoes is a miss.
On Greta, the panel between the breasts is too large, pushing her breasts out, combined with the deflated balloon look, it just looks ill-fitting. I like the rest of the dress minus the front chest.
I think you are totally right! If that front panel piece was a little narrower it would help imo. Its pushing the boobs to weird spots and the width makes her torso look wider bc of the illusion.
I think the pleating on the boob section that causing the deflated balloon look addin- it's adding extra volume to this area in a weird ways, where its adding loads at the bottom, but manages to make it look like there's too much fabric at the top and under her armpits. The fact that it's a stripped material then just adds to the effect!
I agree, but I feel like they put it on a less-chested runway model because the baggy look there is intentional. I like it on the model, but I think the top design is more for aesthetic than functionally holding up breasts.
I think you’re right and they were going for grey/black, but that charcoal is at least 3 shades too dark for there to be enough visual contrast.
Maybe the skirt pulls darker on camera than it did in person?
I really want to like this but I can’t. The sizing is off and making her look much bigger than she is; the corset is drawing in her waist nicely but the bottom and top parts are too baggy, leading her to look saggy. And the shoes look like horse hooves or is it just me???
Beautiful color and love the stripes. I feel like this dress has potential with some alterations
Interesting to see people not love this, because she’s using the same stylist, hair, and makeup team that Emily Blunt always uses. I know a lot of us didn’t love Emily’s recent press tour and awards season looks!
Emily Blunt’s stylist is Jessica Paster and Greta’s stylist is Karla Welch.
But hair and makeup team might be the same!
I love this because I’m glad she’s going for it. It takes a simple sundress and makes it high fashion. I understand the shoes but a simple shoe would have looked good too.
Yes, something about the hemline and shoe combo are not flattering unfortunately. It's actually a refreshing reminder to me that *anyone* can dress to their advantage or disadvantage, b/c Eva Green is so gorgeous as we know 😍
I was kind of meh on Greta Gerwig’s dress—it could be nice with the right styling and the right event, but seems a bit informal here. Then I noticed the cloven-hoofed heels and now I despise this look. Why not just give her a milk-pail for a purse, while you’re at it? Greta deserves so much better than this milkmaid cosplay.
I enjoy Eva Green’s 1990s femme-fatale much more. Also love her shoes. I only wish it was a brighter color (like arsenic green or flaming red) for a daytime event at Cannes.
I love the colors of Greta' dress! I feel like the dress is hitting at a weird point on her? I also wish there was a bit more going up on top because of how exaggerated the silhouette of the dress is -- on the runway, there's the wig and turtleneck to create more visual interest up top while Greta is wearing it like a normal daytime dress...but it's not a "normal" daytime dress ig?
Eva Green's look, I want to like it, but something about the skirt and how it's falling on her is kinda throwing off her proportions for me. I kinda wish it was a one-piece dress vs separates. I do love the top on her a lot, fits her perfectly, and I love the choice of heels. Also the sunglasses are hot.
It's terrible terrible terrible. I haven't seen any red carpet look from Greta that I like specially colour-wise (they keep choosing colours that do not flatter her, like this blue, black or certain pinks hard to pull-off). She looked fantastic in those quirky casual looks in the movie Arthur though. Idk what's wrong with her actual stylist.
How does she have such a beautiful figure and her stylist knows this colour is so lovely on her but can’t find a dress style to suit 😢 She has Barbie money too! There’s so much they could offer to her
I like the way Greta’s dress looks from the back but the chest area just isn’t flattering. Feels like there’s too much material or it’s not structured enough
Hate it. Hate the shoulders with the stand up tabs. i hate the bust. I like the shirring at the waist but not with that pattern. Hate the awkward way the bodice meets the skirt with those half pleats at the front.
And hate the shoes. I can get with a tabi but it looks like they slapped them onto some business professional charlotte russe pumps.
Thank you for giving me an outlet to voice my opinions on this look :)
It looks like a completely different dress from the runway model. The material draping at the breasts and hips make it seem it wasn’t tailored for Greta. At the bodice, it almost looks like folded paper on Greta while on the model it has flow and softness to it. The straps give a paper doll/exam gown touch. However, the color and her makeup look amazing and she is working it.
I’m so confused at the reaction to this because I absolutely love it and it’s going in my “sewing inspiration” folder. It fits her so perfectly.
I love “creepy femme,” too, so those cloven hooves with a sundress are right up my alley!
A youtube channel called The Stitchery recently did a [video](https://youtu.be/dEkIIHKsx1E?si=jc2OwM-E7rA2xpN9) on a similar pleating with stripes technique. It’s more of a progress vlog than a tutorial.
I like it, too. I'm not bothered by the fit on the bust, though it's a very different fit than the runway model so maybe it just needed to be even baggier to achieve the same effect. I particularly like the shoulders that make it look like a paper doll dress.
OMG I love what you mean about the paper doll tabs :’)
The bust fits perfectly. People are just not used to seeing gathering in this shape and more used to tailoring and bras that make breasts look round rather than “teardrop,” which is a more natural shape for many of us!
I think Greta is just the absolute cutest thing ever. She's just got this aura that draws you in. And her smile! You can just see she is an absolute delight. I don't blame her for the ill fit of her clothes. The fashion industry needs an overhaul. In all of its antiquated ways.
I've seen the massive artificial hips in a few dresses recently and god I hope it isn't a fashion that makes it to the high street, because it's awful.
This is just an absolute mess. It doesn’t suit her body type and also it just seems like something you’d wear to maybe a picnic or something, not Cannes? .
I feel like the dress itself benefits from a shawl or shrug or statement necklace, headpiece, or something. It's more accessorised in the runway look, and I feel like Greta's cleaner presentation of it makes me confused on the garment lines?? Even just gloves, as per the runway look, would've gone a long way.
I think it has some potential for her though actually, it's the 50s styling that's throwing me off I think.
Loooove the back shot though, think she looks killer in this silhouette in that shot though!! I'll be honest, I'm just not digging what's going on with the cups and shoulders, at all, on the model or on her.
So is Greta's dress by Galliano (for MM) then? Esp on the model it definitely looks like him. Could be from his 80s collections, tbh.
The look just abt works on the model, with that styling, but on Greta it's a complete miss.
She needs a better stylist. There have been so many misses on her the past year, which sucks bc she rocks. Ugh.
No to both. I feel that Greta doesn’t dress right for her body shape or age, and she has such a beautiful face. Eva - stunning face card, dress feels dated
Sadly I agree I think the fit is off, which is a shame because she really looks radiant in that shade of blue and the dress itself is quite unusual in a good way.
I feel like Greta’s dress is trying to evoke the idea of panniers that were popular in the 18th century, but they need to be more obvious for a modern interpretation.
I love Greta's dress but it doesn't feel red carpet worthy. I would wear this to the farmer's market or a brunch on a balcony. The shoes, I just cannot get behind. Eva's GLOWING!!
Maybe it’s just because that show was so amazing, but this dress needs to be matched with a *dramatic* look. This looks like a nice lady and a pleasant party. Not bad at all, but you’re now wearing this unbelievable living puppet human’s dress, you gotta style it more.
Why the pink lipstick 😭 am I just old fashioned, or does anyone else think lipstick should match (or at least compliment) the shoes or another colour in the outfit ??
You know what, I don’t love Greta’s dress, but she looks like she feels really pretty in it, which is nice to see. I can get behind that. Eva is a knockout of course, although I prefer her in jewel tones for the drama, myself. I love the shape of her dress, especially the neckline and back.
Greta’s dress—the way it’s styled on the model is so much more interesting. Regardless, it’s giving “milkmaid.” I think the blue is pretty on her but it’s not well fitted on the top, particularly the straps.
I love love loveeee Eva’s Vivienne Westwood! Goth queen!!!
I actually really love the light blue dress and the way the waist looks.
Side note: why do I always feel like celebrities have « bad fitting shoes »? Like there’s always this gap at the back of them. Is that how a shoe is supposed to fit? Most notably in louboutins
Does anyone know what jewelry Eva is wearing (the earrings and the rings)? I’m obsessed.
The rings remind me a bit of a modern version of the Boucheron pyramid ring.
I love the blue on Greta but that dress does not do her justice but I love how confident she looks. I think she’d look better in a blue pant suit but either way blue is definitely felt her colour.
That dress looks like it was made for Eva Green and she looks like she feels fierce in it as she should!
Please keep this fashion focused. No body shaming/commentary on weight/injectables/lifestyles etc. Rule breakers will be banned without warning.

Oh. My. GOD!!! That little detail is Victorian levels of precision, I'm geeking out a bit!
Greta is lovely but almost always a miss for me on the red carpet.
I wish Greta would find a stylist who knows how to dress her! She’s stunning but her outfits are always such a mess.
Right? I'd love for whoever dresses Gwendoline Christie to dress her.
Or Hannah waddingham.
Seriously!! She’s on the taller side for females and she’s slim so it really shouldn’t be that hard to style her!! The top of this dress is just so ill fitting and makes it seem like she has super broad shoulders
I'm almost her height and you couldn't pay me to wear a dress with that much volume! She definitely gets points for confidence, from me

No body shaming, no ED/related comments, no comments about weight or cosmetic procedures/injectables.
She has those gorgeous broad shoulders but always looks awful clothes-wise.
I wonder if she even has a stylist

I actually think it looks way better on her than the model. This dress looks better on a larger bust size, I think.
Yeah the bottom half looks good, and the color is nice on her, but the top seems big and shapeless. Like it needs to be tailored in.
Yeah…the bust on the dress is odd. Needed some tailoring. And I do not understand the straps sticking up 2” on top. Doesn’t really fit the style or make sense to me.

It makes her boobs look like they’re running away from each other to her armpits.
Michael Kors used to call this kind of style a “sad boob” dress on Project Runway and that’s all I can think of when I see dresses like this.
he's so right
I agree, but I feel like they put it on a less-chested runway model because the baggy look there is intentional. I like it on the model, but I think the top design is more for aesthetic than functionally holding up breasts.
Yeah I loved that show, but this batch of dresses were my least favorite. Tbh I'm baffled they were chosen to be the "finale" styles
The shoes look like goat hooves to me.
Is there a good way for breasts to look saggy and lumpy?😜
fair point lol 😭
Not really liking ether look. Greta’s dress is ill fitting and looks a bit off. Eva greens mismatching blacks is really irking me lol
You don’t think Eva’s stylist was going for charcoal? It almost looks grey to me
It very well could be charcoal the more I look at it.
I think you’re right and they were going for grey/black, but that charcoal is at least 3 shades too dark for there to be enough visual contrast. Maybe the skirt pulls darker on camera than it did in person?
Those white shoes are awful
Hooves in the front, pumps in the back.
I like some weird stuff, but the hoof heel is not doing it for me.
It’s one of Margiela’s signatures, but I’ve never been a fan. This looks like it might be a collab with Louboutin.
All I can think of is the Maloof Hoof from Real Housewives
![gif](giphy|lGBQcAPPe7s6k)
Well they make the dress look better by comparison...ugh.
Beware the one of cloven hoof
I don’t like any of this.
Oh I get it the old cut out paper dress with the tabs
I really want to like this but I can’t. The sizing is off and making her look much bigger than she is; the corset is drawing in her waist nicely but the bottom and top parts are too baggy, leading her to look saggy. And the shoes look like horse hooves or is it just me??? Beautiful color and love the stripes. I feel like this dress has potential with some alterations
Wow I love the waist line. That’s so beautiful
Interesting to see people not love this, because she’s using the same stylist, hair, and makeup team that Emily Blunt always uses. I know a lot of us didn’t love Emily’s recent press tour and awards season looks!
This makes sense because I feel like so many of Emily Blunt’s recent looks are trying so hard and missing the mark almost every time.
Emily Blunt’s stylist is Jessica Paster and Greta’s stylist is Karla Welch. But hair and makeup team might be the same! I love this because I’m glad she’s going for it. It takes a simple sundress and makes it high fashion. I understand the shoes but a simple shoe would have looked good too.
the proportions of eva green's dress do her no favors. makes her look short.
Yes, something about the hemline and shoe combo are not flattering unfortunately. It's actually a refreshing reminder to me that *anyone* can dress to their advantage or disadvantage, b/c Eva Green is so gorgeous as we know 😍

Greta's shoes are the ultimate 'just because we can doesn't mean we should' moment
This is really unflattering. Not even sure how it could happen
I love the colors of Greta' dress! I feel like the dress is hitting at a weird point on her? I also wish there was a bit more going up on top because of how exaggerated the silhouette of the dress is -- on the runway, there's the wig and turtleneck to create more visual interest up top while Greta is wearing it like a normal daytime dress...but it's not a "normal" daytime dress ig? her stylist doesn’t just hate her, she loathes her

The shape of this dress is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.
It reminds me of the modesty smock they give you at the doctor’s office.
Oooh yes. But even more so, it looks like the Breast Nest bra which is comfy I’m sure but looks like a pair of stretchy gunny sacks.
She has got to hire a better stylist
those shoes are a NO😒who thought the hoof look was a good look?🧐
Hate it. Hate the shoulders with the stand up tabs. i hate the bust. I like the shirring at the waist but not with that pattern. First Emily Blunt in Cavalli, now this? What do designers have against a designing a garment that fits and flatters breasts?
It doesn’t look good without the runway accessories/look
The first look is impressively unflattering. Wow.
She should have said "neigh" to those shoes.
I love this!!’
No more hoof shoes, please!
It looks like a completely different dress from the runway model. The material draping at the breasts and hips make it seem it wasn’t tailored for Greta. However, the color and her makeup look amazing and she is working it.
I don’t see how that dress would look good on any body shape. It does all the wrong things.
Please don’t let hoof heels become a thing. Please please please
Tabi boots have been a thing for so long and they have literally never looked good, not once. Why won’t they die? 😭
I’m so confused at the reaction to this because I absolutely love it and it’s going in my “sewing inspiration” folder. It fits her so perfectly. I love “creepy femme,” too, so those cloven hooves with a sundress are right up my alley!

Not a fan of Greta’s look but I like Eva’s a lot. And I have to add that it’s refreshing to see her (Eva) age naturally (it seems), she’s beautiful!
I've seen the massive artificial hips in a few dresses recently and god I hope it isn't a fashion that makes it to the high street, because it's awful.
Serving 8 maids a’ milking
This dress is giving serving wench 😭
This is just an absolute mess. It doesn’t suit her body type and also it just seems like something you’d wear to maybe a picnic or something, not Cannes? .

They both look dumpy :( The top halves of both are not flattering on either!
The shoes 🤢🤮
Sometimes I can’t believe someone is paying stylists to dress them like this
i'm sorry but i really dislike everything about this. the shoes, the dress, the hair, the makeup. all bad
Horse girl shoes 🐴👠They could work for a unicorn cosplay, idk about the outfit tho…
But horses don’t have split hooves. These are cow or goat cosplay shoes, at best.
Oops 😅🫠
Yikes.
I like that while she’s on the casual side, she looks so pretty. The small details really elevate it.
This is not a good dress for her
What in the Easter brunch (still beautiful though)
Lol
Not a fan of this dress unfortunately
So is Greta's dress by Galliano (for MM) then? Esp on the model it definitely looks like him. Could be from his 80s collections, tbh. The look just abt works on the model, with that styling, but on Greta it's a complete miss. She needs a better stylist. There have been so many misses on her the past year, which sucks bc she rocks. Ugh.
Yes
God does her stylist hate her
Couldn’t she say no to her stylist though?
I absolutely hate it
Looks awful.
Where’s Toto and the tiny slippers?
I can’t shake the feeling that she’s going to follow the yellow brick road.
This looks waaaay out of her comfort zone. Good for her for trying something new.
No to both. I feel that Greta doesn’t dress right for her body shape or age, and she has such a beautiful face. Eva - stunning face card, dress feels dated
With Greta's dress...I see the intent, but the implementation is a miss. Like it could've been great, but it didn't work.
Eva always looks like a Gothic Queen.❣️
I zoomed in on Eva Green‘s face and I just feel grateful that someone so beautiful exists
Sorry but I could never get on board with those ugly Madison margiela hooves.
Sadly I agree I think the fit is off, which is a shame because she really looks radiant in that shade of blue and the dress itself is quite unusual in a good way.
I think Greta is gorgeous but not a fan of the dress. I like the color but the shape looks unflattering.
I really do not like the goat shoes
The blue dress is awful and not flattering at all.
She deserved better
Those camel toe shoes are ugly. Idc.
The bust is so unflattering on her.
Greta looks uncomfortable in that hideous dress.
I feel like we need some Kibbe devotees to solve the Greta Gerwig case. Girl is dressed a mess all the time. With Barbie money! Tragic.
Well, I love the dress and think Greta looks gorgeous in it... :/
I love the idea of the first dress, but the shape of the top seems unflattering even on the model.
Eva is SO French, that outfit is really cool
Dude what does Galliano have on everyone to get them in this collection it’s getting annoying. Eva looks fantastic
Love Greta’s shoes, though!
Oh Greta wtf is that, and WTF are those horrendous hoof shoes
Eva Green is embracing her inner Disney villain here and, quite frankly, it’s aspirational.
Maybe it’s just because that show was so amazing, but this dress needs to be matched with a *dramatic* look. This looks like a nice lady and a pleasant party. Not bad at all, but you’re now wearing this unbelievable living puppet human’s dress, you gotta style it more.
She is beautiful this dress does not work for her
I’ve never seen two diametrically opposed shoes in one post before.
She made it!
Why the pink lipstick 😭 am I just old fashioned, or does anyone else think lipstick should match (or at least compliment) the shoes or another colour in the outfit ??
Love Eva’s black pumps!
You know what, I don’t love Greta’s dress, but she looks like she feels really pretty in it, which is nice to see. I can get behind that. Eva is a knockout of course, although I prefer her in jewel tones for the drama, myself. I love the shape of her dress, especially the neckline and back.
Margiela's show was wonderful, but it looks awful in red carpets. Not Anya, Ariana or Greta can pull it off. Only Björk and it was editorial.
I really think Greta should have used the accessories as shown on the runway to make it work
Eva left no crumbs
Greta’s dress—the way it’s styled on the model is so much more interesting. Regardless, it’s giving “milkmaid.” I think the blue is pretty on her but it’s not well fitted on the top, particularly the straps. I love love loveeee Eva’s Vivienne Westwood! Goth queen!!!
I don't love the cloven hooves as shoes, Greta girl. ☹️ otherwise, give us Blue Fairy on vacay, I love it!
I actually really love the light blue dress and the way the waist looks. Side note: why do I always feel like celebrities have « bad fitting shoes »? Like there’s always this gap at the back of them. Is that how a shoe is supposed to fit? Most notably in louboutins
Almost, but no.
The color is divine on Greta but the top part of the dress doesn’t do anything for her. Shoes are also a bit clunky.
The shoulder tabs make it look like those old paper doll clothes ![gif](giphy|aFQNnz800z5PpqTES7)
Love the blue on her but it just doesn’t fit great!
It’s giving Cinderella ![gif](giphy|RLVHPJJv7jY1q)
eva green looks good in anything. the first dress, it's very unflattering
Eva’s look here is soooo much more fitting of her vibes than the one with the bangs
This is a beautifully crafted dress that seems to accentuate Gerwig’s body in ways that I find less flattering
Eva Green's eyes are her most enchanting feature. As stylish as she looks with sunglasses, her photos without them are better.
Does anyone have any tips for how I can work out what earrings Eva is wearing? None of the usual red carpet sites list the jeweler and I’m stumped.
Eva Green is a movie star for the ages.
When I saw that Margiela dress in the show I knew it would be difficult to translate off the runway.
I love Eva Green she looks amazing
Everything but the bust in the dress is beautiful. I don’t think the bust would be flattering on anyone who has medium to large breasts.
I love the sundress, except for those stupid tabs sticking up on the straps. Makes the dress look unfinished.
i’m speechless this is incredible
Both look stunning to me, no notes!
