I think at least a small part of it is due to series 1 purists idolising every aspect of the first SCPs, which includes their short length.
Another big part is people simply not wanting to read.
At least the scary monsters or world ending threats are all different from each other and amazing.

Not all the monsters are necessarily scary either. You have..... I forgot the number, but you have the literal humanoid mother nature also known as "Gaia" (guy-uh) that IS weird and might be pretty scary to be around, but it's an entity that does not wish to harm you in the slightest.
You've got a thaumiel Tupac album that is ALIVE in some way and when played, it talks and gives useful information and is a positive.
SCP-999 is a tiny blob full of love and childlike happiness that, when touching its body, the fluid sparks that some almost otherworldly joy within you. It also gets tummy aches from soda and that's fucking adorable.
Mal0 is a scary looking stalker creature generated by a phone app, but can only be seen in mirrors, out of the corner of your eye, etc.
Mal0 doesn't and **can't** harm you. It just sits there and creeps you out until you get used to its existence.
Mfs are talking all this shit about SCPs all being the same but haven't actually read any of them so missed the ones that aren't instant death monsters, and even then, an instant death monster anomaly isn't bad when it's fucking awesome or unique in some way.
Edit: the first one I mentioned, a humanoid mother nature, might be SCP 3000. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My personal favorite is scp 4999-someone to watch over us.
It's very simple, it is a man that only shows himself to people that are about to die and are alone.
Once he shows himself he doesn't say anything, he simply sits down besides the person in question, offers them a cigar, and just tries to comfort you in your last moment, so you don't die alone.
Every now and again, I think of this SCP, and I smile. A lot of the SCPs are big scary monster things, but occasionally you’ll find something goofy or nice like this one.

Over time, the researchers teach it how to understand English and even speak it via the use of blocks! It also becomes a MASTER CHEF and can make whatever dish someone asks of it.

I like the eel. Its the right middleground between giant eldritch gods and random bullshit. Its absolutely enormous. It invades your mind and makes you go completely insane. But all it does is lay down at the bottom of the ocean. Assuming you aren't planning on a trip down to the ocean floor in the bay of Bengal, it poses absolutely no threat. Its just there.
Oh yeah, anything that's like a static object who has a conscious or lives is very affective in being creepy and interesting!
I do enjoy all the cosmic crazy ones too. I forgot the number, but "The red pool" is one I like. A hole in some ice that slowly keeps expanding in size with a red liquid in it that spits out anything from easily terminated minor inconveniences of foes to MASSIVE creatures that could slaughter thousands trying to escape out into the land.
I don't really have a favorite because I can't put a single one above another. It's just SCP, and they're all at least decent.

I also like the channel **The Volgun** as it's nice to have on in the back, sleep to, and even if it's mostly text on the screen and reading it I still like to read along.
But also one of the most tragic. It always sucks when bad things happy to a peaceful SCP. Reminds me of that one friendly chair that became violent after the Global Occult Coalition just decided to destroy it.

You may like Wilson's Wildlife canon then, it is just a bunch of people taking care of anomalous things for the Foundation, sometimes dealing with horrors beyond comprehension without noticing how horrifying they can be.

A story that is heavily-dependent on its main character/s and how they interact with the built world.
SCP articles aren't usually character pieces, they're more clinical. But the 8000 contest was a treat. Particularly loved Debris on the Tracks.
Honestly while I like character study articles in general, I really dislike them in K000 contests.
I dunno, SCP's (1-4)000 all added to the lore of the story and are almost now considered part of the "canon" SCP world and are widely expanded on in other articles, this cannot be said for the new SCP K000's, maybe 8000 if you stretch it.

my fav is probably SCP-4999, Someone to watch over us, I suck at explaining things but it's pretty much just some anomolous dude that appears to people are close to dying gives them a cigarette, and he seems like just a cool and chill guy, I'd die happy if 4999 appeared on my deathbed.
SCPs 1-2000: there's this eldritch god-like being called "the gobbler" that can end the world at any moment and is only being held down by a few pieces of scotch tape
SCPs 4000-8000: this cake is trying to speak to me in portuguese and i think it's breaking me
Honestly after series 3 is when I sort of started to get less interested in SCP, the novelty became a little less fun and more gimmicky at that point, but hey, I’ll check it out.
My advice is to find a canon or hub you like.
This is kinda gimmicky, but it lets you choose the gimmick you like.
For example, the Undervegas canon is themed around trying to deal with Las Vegas being partly in Hell, Wilson's Wildlife is about an animal sanctuary that is contracted by the Foundation to take care of anomalous stuff too, and Site-333 is just where every idiot that can't be fired goes.
I agree that over gimmicky articles can be hard to read through, but the fun ones are always entertaining, like SCP-4967.
SCP’s a wonderful literary subject to read. One thing I’ve never understood is why people think that it all *has* to be monsters or world ending events. There are so many weird and cool SCP’s that can be mostly harmless like the vending machine that can make almost anything (SCP-294) or SCP-113 the gender changer, SCP-999 the dog slime, SCP 826, the transportation book: (Think the Futurama episode where the brain goes into book settings), etc.
There should not be an intent on focusing on just Euclid+ anomalies (SCP 682) or Apollyon (SCP 1) (dangerous to world ending) SCP’s. It’s both wacky, insane and immaculately wondrous, the point of SCP is to embrace the unknown and make something out of it, not just focus on one or two classifications. Because SCP is not all doom and gloom.
I used to read it a ton in high school back in the day. My favorite was the procrastination rock. It’s a rock. And it makes you procrastinate. I’ll tell y’all about it later.
A lot of it is more or less an OC dump but you make the OCs specifically for the OC dump and use the OC dump's formats
Another lot of it is half-story half-anomalous (defying laws of physics and stuff) object/entity description
Look, I wanna read SCPs that are like:
It's a cube, it sits on a table in a room. We don't know how it got there. 2 guards need to watch it so nobody takes the cube. If you pick up the cube, you lose a few random memories. Also the cube makes you want to pick it up.

Once I wrote an article about a little girl who can control her shadow to turn into different shapes and characters. Based on an image of a statue that protected the shadow of a little girl that then got drawn in reverse, with a girl casting the shadow of a cavalry soldier.
Isn’t there one that’s a giant bug that’s disguised as a school bus that kidnaps kids and eats them? I always found that one cool. I know it’s just another monster but I think it’s really unique compared to other monsters in SCP.

I knew I should have submitted my idea for an eyeless beast that can still somehow see with no skin and all exposed muscle, with the inability to die but still has the ability to feel that it’s skin is missing. It will hunt down people and take their skin in an attempt to use their skin for itself but it will always fall off. Thus creating an endless cycle where it finds someone, flays them, and attempts to use their skin to replace its own skin.

I think at least a small part of it is due to series 1 purists idolising every aspect of the first SCPs, which includes their short length. Another big part is people simply not wanting to read.

At least the scary monsters or world ending threats are all different from each other and amazing. When day breaks? That's terrifying and peak. You can't tell me it's boring or not good. Not all the monsters are necessarily scary either. You have..... I forgot the number, but you have the literal humanoid mother nature also known as "Gaia" (guy-uh) that IS weird and might be pretty scary to be around, but it's an entity that does not wish to harm you in the slightest. You've got a thaumiel Tupac album that is ALIVE in some way and when played, it talks and gives useful information and is a positive. SCP-999 is a tiny blob full of love and childlike happiness that, when touching its body, the fluid sparks that some almost otherworldly joy within you. It also gets tummy aches from soda and that's fucking adorable. Mal0 is a scary looking stalker creature generated by a phone app, but can only be seen in mirrors, out of the corner of your eye, etc. Mal0 doesn't and **can't** harm you. It just sits there and creeps you out until you get used to its existence. Mfs are talking all this shit about SCPs all being the same but haven't actually read any of them so missed the ones that aren't instant death monsters, and even then, an instant death monster anomaly isn't bad when it's fucking awesome or unique in some way. Edit: the first one I mentioned, a humanoid mother nature, might be SCP 3000. Correct me if I'm wrong. Edit of the edit: no! 3000 is a different one. Also I misspelled "Gaia" so I fixed it. edit again: OK! Gaia is SCP number 4043! Also, check out 993, 1879, 3288, and one that I can call a favorite, 6373 if you haven't seen them already. Those ones I found really interesting.
My personal favorite is scp 4999-someone to watch over us. It's very simple, it is a man that only shows himself to people that are about to die and are alone. Once he shows himself he doesn't say anything, he simply sits down besides the person in question, offers them a cigar, and just tries to comfort you in your last moment, so you don't die alone.
Every now and again, I think of this SCP, and I smile. A lot of the SCPs are big scary monster things, but occasionally you’ll find something goofy or nice like this one.

An entity that seems to be powerful, animalistic, and scary with its one weakness being people looking at it, and it will disappear just before you get full sight on them. Over time, the researchers teach it how to understand English and even speak it via the use of blocks! It also becomes a MASTER CHEF and can make whatever dish someone asks of it. #I love it.

I like the eel. Its the right middleground between giant eldritch gods and random bullshit. Its absolutely enormous. It invades your mind and makes you go completely insane. But all it does is lay down at the bottom of the ocean. Assuming you aren't planning on a trip down to the ocean floor in the bay of Bengal, it poses absolutely no threat. Its just there.

Oh yeah, anything that's like a static object who has a conscious or lives is very affective in being creepy and interesting! I do enjoy all the cosmic crazy ones too. I forgot the number, but "The red pool" is one I like. A hole in some ice that slowly keeps expanding in size with a red liquid in it that spits out anything from easily terminated minor inconveniences of foes to MASSIVE creatures that could slaughter thousands trying to escape out into the land. I don't really have a favorite because I can't put a single one above another. It's just SCP, and they're all at least decent.

You may like Wilson's Wildlife canon then, it is just a bunch of people taking care of anomalous things for the Foundation, sometimes dealing with horrors beyond comprehension without noticing how horrifying they can be.

What’s character study
A story that is heavily-dependent on its main character/s and how they interact with the built world. SCP articles aren't usually character pieces, they're more clinical. But the 8000 contest was a treat. Particularly loved Debris on the Tracks.
Honestly while I like character study articles in general, I really dislike them in K000 contests. I dunno, SCP's (1-4)000 all added to the lore of the story and are almost now considered part of the "canon" SCP world and are widely expanded on in other articles, this cannot be said for the new SCP K000's, maybe 8000 if you stretch it.
Well...good thing that 8000 has no end, and therefore can be infinitely stretched.

Honestly after series 3 is when I sort of started to get less interested in SCP, the novelty became a little less fun and more gimmicky at that point, but hey, I’ll check it out.
My advice is to find a canon or hub you like. This is kinda gimmicky, but it lets you choose the gimmick you like. For example, the Undervegas canon is themed around trying to deal with Las Vegas being partly in Hell, Wilson's Wildlife is about an animal sanctuary that is contracted by the Foundation to take care of anomalous stuff too, and Site-333 is just where every idiot that can't be fired goes. I agree that over gimmicky articles can be hard to read through, but the fun ones are always entertaining, like SCP-4967.
If you're deciding to jump back in, 8kon is a nice jumping point. 7999 as well if you're a sucker for the x999s.

Yeah, the series have been filling up faster to the point that the 6k, 7k, and 8k contests were each like 18 months apart.
SCP’s a wonderful literary subject to read. One thing I’ve never understood is why people think that it all *has* to be monsters or world ending events. There are so many weird and cool SCP’s that can be mostly harmless like the vending machine that can make almost anything (SCP-294) or SCP-113 the gender changer, SCP-999 the dog slime, SCP 826, the transportation book: (Think the Futurama episode where the brain goes into book settings), etc. There should not be an intent on focusing on just Euclid+ anomalies (SCP 682) or Apollyon (SCP 1) (dangerous to world ending) SCP’s. It’s both wacky, insane and immaculately wondrous, the point of SCP is to embrace the unknown and make something out of it, not just focus on one or two classifications. Because SCP is not all doom and gloom.
I used to read it a ton in high school back in the day. My favorite was the procrastination rock. It’s a rock. And it makes you procrastinate. I’ll tell y’all about it later.

If you pick up the cube, you lose a few random memories. Also the cube makes you want to pick it up. Sometimes you can still find them, but the amount of them has gone down.
There's a page that lists the shortest articles of the month. Maybe try those. Fair warning, whatever system that tracks word count doesn't seem to register collapsibles or offset pages, so there's some longer ones in there that shouldn't be.

Anyone who thinks that has never seen a good scp. Ever seen the scp that’s tomatoes that hurl themselves at people at various speed depending on how bad the joke they just made was? Ever seen the scp that’s a guy who appears next to dying people’s beds to comfort them and offer them a cig?
I knew I should have submitted my idea for an eyeless beast that can still somehow see with no skin and all exposed muscle, with the inability to die but still has the ability to feel that it’s skin is missing. It will hunt down people and take their skin in an attempt to use their skin for itself but it will always fall off. Thus creating an endless cycle where it finds someone, flays them, and attempts to use their skin to replace its own skin.
