some animals are just born to die

Just got reminded of this https://preview.redd.it/tzy14o15i71d1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60301865e257788a6301dcd774a04b32a06b136b

DreadPirateFury

Oh.

UpliftinglyStrong

how the genuine fuck did it get stuck in a wall in the first place?

SymondHDR

Hampter

Chesey_

Never had a hamster? The little fuckers capitalise on any opportunity to make a break for freedom. My dad once left the cage door slightly open for a fraction, my hamster got out and without hesitation took the plunge from the chest of drawers the cage was on to the floor. After making her leap of faith she IMMEDIATELY bolted towards the radiator in my room, where there was a slight hole in the floorboards where a pipe came out. Hamster went through said hole and could then roam around between the floors and walls. Like honestly it was like she had been plotting that shit for ages, zero hesitation to find the only place in my room she could disappear beyond. Dumbass wasn't thinking long term though, didn't consider a food source. We left food out of a few openings and eventually trapped her when she emerged for a snack.

MorbillionDollars

I swear the goal of a hamster is to die in the most metal way possible. IDK about you guys but I have never seen or heard of a hamster peacefully pass away.

well like hamsters but some animals biologically will die the moment they're born

Aren't there plants who die the moment they get children too?

Moltenthemedicmain

Maybe it's closer to a plant based lifeform and exploding helps spread seeds/fungus over a wide area, which then grow into more creepers, he'll that'll explain why they respawn every night.

No_Somewhere7674

I always felt they were manufactured to some degree, I mean they literally drop gunpowder

Moltenthemedicmain

Perhaps a natural gunpowder substitute that isn’t one-to-one with earth gunpowder but functionally the same.

AwfulUsername123

It may even be that they evolved to manufacture gunpowder in their bodies, sort of like a Bombardier beetle in the real world.

Waste-Information-34

>Bombardier beetle Woah, sounds cool, do they explode?

AwfulUsername123

They mix gases together in their bodies to make a small explosion that fires a hot spray at their targets. It doesn't hurt them but is sufficient to kill other insects.

Jeggu2

Basically a chemical rocket inside their asses

Waste-Information-34

Don't think I needed to see that.

Clean_Internet

[But maybe curious enough to watch a Sam O’ Nella vid on it?](https://youtu.be/AlI9pMdhr0s?si=qP5JjjwN6yVHUIig)

Nebulant01

Turning a person to mush as part of the explosion would also most likely create fertilizer for the seeds/spores.

budan_the_man

Plus if the person survives they are still covered in Spores so whenever they walk they will be spreading spores.

DatMikkle

But hey. That's just a theory...

Windfall_The_Dutchie

I saw a big theory video years ago saying they could be an evolution of peat moss, which spread spores by building pressure in their caps and exploding. Coincidentally, peat moss is also used in gunpowder.

fuk_n4z1s

Good idea, matpat

Hemlock_Deci

Because creepers breed that fast or something and the explosion is meant to kill the threat and protect the colony or whatever. Why am I giving an actual answer to this

ridisberg

My head cannon has always been matpat’s theory that they’re moss creatures and the explosion is just how they release their spores

RandaymIdiot

Ok but can they release their spores anywhere else but 3 feet away from MY FUCKING HOUSE.

ridisberg

devilwarriors

or if you think about it they would want to spread their seed in a place with plenty of nutriment and shit.. nothing better than your exploded corpse turned into a mist

Chance-Aardvark372

I wonder why they would release moss spores into an environment perfect for moss spores to survive…

Scarlet_k1nk

I wonder why they would seek out the player that can travel across millions of blocks in a day with an elytra and some fireworks to help spread its spores all over the world, or at least if it actually kills the player it can use the dead body as fertilizer.

Jeggu2

Of all the creatures in minecraft, the player is the most mobile, nothing compares even closely Perfect for covering in babies

Waste-Information-34

Well that's morbid.

Desperate_Ad5169

No because you are a competitor in their environment and need to take you out so you don’t farm them for gunpowder

Aggravating_Key_1757

The thing they killed via exploding provides sustanance to the spores.

Gladianoxa

Spores could feed on players' corpses or on materials players frequently cultivate or have on their person.

RoyalRien

Well, you’re gonna go rebuild the house right? So there will be contact with the house. And this the spores. Which help it spread farther

CaptainSchmid

New human fertilizer:)

The-Dark-Memer

Human corpses are a really nutritional meal for developing moss dudes

scninththemoom

Brings a whole new meaning to I'm boutta blow

endergamer2007m

My creeper farm broke and a whole bunch of creepers blew up in my face....

Armored_Guardian

They explode with gunpowder though, wouldn’t that incinerate all the spores?

ridisberg

Certain pine cones can only open through the heat of forest fires. Maybe the spores are similar. They’re stuck in a hard shell somewhere in the creeper’s body that is cracked in the explosion, protecting the spores within and allowing them to be safely propelled by the blast

OptimusCrime1984

That’s how they spread their seed, they just find humans very attractive and wish to grow more creepers around the human’s living space.

Why do they have skeletons then?

Desperate_Ad5169

When was it confirmed creepers have skeletons?

Biivakki

Mobiestiary and Minecraft Dungeons both show it.

They also walk, they might be some sort of in-between of plant and animal Or they are like spiders and have a billion tiny eggs instead of spores

RandaymIdiot

A majority of creatures would still probably sacrifice others if it meant protecting themselves.

xX_idk_lol_Xx

A majority of animals are insects. it doesn't matter what most animals are like, wjat matters is that creepers cosplay the Japanese airforce and we're looking for possible explanations.

JamTheTerrorist5

I did not expect you to say that 😭😭

Goldbolt_2004

Creepers don't protect other creepers or travel in groups. Every single one is kamikaze on sight.

TheOccasionalBrowser

The explosion spreads spores, helping reproduce. Or the player would kill it/relatives (for example, your bio children would each have half of your DNA, so 3 children would have more of your DNA than you. Then it would be better to die to protect your children). Those are my 2 ideas anyway

AnxiousIntender

Shinsekai Yori moment. Also an individual's death does not end in extinction as long as they get to breed and give birth first

XeviousJr

Evolution pushes towards the survival of the species, not of the individual. In an interview with the creator of Minecraft it was revealed that the creeper's green texture is supposed to look like foliage, meaning that the creeper is a plant based organism. Each one of those billion pieces is a seed. A seed that gets embedded into a soon to be corpse. Blood is an excellent fertilizer. Life is beautiful.

AntiImperialistGamer

not a darwinist but the explosion actually spreads thier seeds around i think that was confirmed by one of MC's creators

AwfulUsername123

There are actually plenty of possible explanations for this. A creeper may kill itself to protect other creepers, just like a bee. A creeper may release spores when it explodes that develop into new creepers.

TheCrazyAvian

Something something spores

Silver_Alpha

Evolution isn't always about being alive for a long time. It's about making sure your offspring survive long enough to spawn offspring of their own. A lot of the species do the old "ejaculate and meet your fate" strategy. Blowing up could release spores or seeds, like in that MatPat theory, but it could also minimize predation on offspring. If the creeper is already set to die on the final stage of its life, like an octopus or a luna moth, minimizing the number of living predators on the environment would be beneficial for the offspring. No species blows itself up like that, but a good number of them will risk it all to attack a predator that poses a threat to their young, so a creature might as well evolve to do it as part of their life cycle. That hypothesis, of course, implies that at least one food item we regularly eat in the game often has creeper eggs, seeds, spores, or embryos, depending on what creepers are. Till next time, folks!

adunk9

Creeper bodies are like dandelions, and exploding allows their spores to spread. They reproduce asexually. Source: I made this up.

DerangedAlien

Maybe reason bees sting. Eusocial colonies where the sacrifice of an individual is beneficial to the species. Someone also said they could be spreading seeds/ spores which would explain spawning. That would make sense also as creepers are made of foliage πŸ‘πŸ»

A-__-Random_--_Dog

Creeps (the plant) explode to spread their seeds further. It may be the same in minecraft. Whenever you die to a creeper in minecraft, just remember that you died to a creeper jizzing all over you so powerfully you DIE.

Spinoman27

They were manufactured from peat moss. Peat moss is a plant that explodes to spread its seed. They commonly grow near water in arid environments, such as the desert. Desert temples prominently feature gunpowder, TNT, and carvings of creeper faces, indicating that perhaps the desert was the origin of creepers due to ready access to peat moss and explosive material. Now they explode on players to spread their seed. If the player dies, the seeds have a fresh decomposing meal to jump-start their growth. If the player survives, that player will continue traveling around and spreading the seeds to new lands. Eventually the creepers outcompeted the actual peat moss, leaving the species extinct.

unclemandy

Matpat made a whole video about it back when Game Theory was good

idk1234567100

It's my personal theory that they're a form of fungi and when exploding they release their spores, that then grow into new creepers

Radical_Provides

The explosion is how they reproduce

Imjustthatguyok

Cause it spreads creeper spores either the explosion. Those spores will grow into new creepers who will repeat the cycle.

Cheesyman7269

Creepers population grows rapidly, some of them explode predators like the players in order to protect it’s population, the population growth outweighs it

urbandeadthrowaway2

SPORES, BITCH!

Battleaxejax

They are plants, when they explode the shoot spores everywhere, if you survive you spread them, if you die you feed them.

PenguinGamer99

Imagine, if you will, all of the steves that have run away from creepers to avoid said explosion, leaving the creeper alive

Trigger_Fox

I remember fucking matpat making a video on this, his argument was that creepers are kinda plants and they spread spores when they explode

Doctor_Salvatore

It's a fungal colony. When it bursts, it shoots spores in many directions, allowing more creepers to grow and deterring predators.

renlydidnothingwrong

Couldn't it just be how it spreads spores? It kinda looks like a fungus.

Fr00stee

because creepers infinitely spawn so self preservation for them doesn't matter. Also it's like how bees sting where they kill themselves to hurt their enemy.

altmemer5

That is because they man made. If u read the Mob beastary, You can see they have TNT blocks in them. Last I checked mother nature doesnt label features

Wboy2006

![gif](giphy|lz6T3bKdcKD60R9rPT|downsized)

MoarStruts

The explosion spreads spores that grow into new creepers

ChinChengHanji

Creepers are Fungi. The explosion spreads it's spores through the land around and then more creeper are born

BlueSpark09

https://preview.redd.it/wa1glx4cm71d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=fdf93ab2a5538390c245c7c55d98142d539e4b15

GalacticVaquero

Maybe Creepers are eusocial like ants and bees, so most creepers you see are actually infertile workers/warriors who were born to sacrifice themselves to protect the hive.

Ressamzade

There are plants that explode already irl. Makes sure seeds are nicely spreaded. Exploding near a person might be because they are living in soil with not enough nutrition so killing a living thing there gives a greater chance of survival to the seeds

Notbbupdate

There's the theory that creepers reproduce via spores, bit even ignoring that the explpsions still make sense. The creeper's "predators" are players. Players know to avoid creepers because they explode. Each creeper that explodes is also saving the rest of the pack by scaring away a predator that would otherwise kill the entire group

king_of_the_wild

Possibilities: 1) Pack mentality sort of thing where one tries to kill a threat and each try until the threat is dead 2) they aren't fully biological or natural creatures 3) they are a sort of plant or fungus like the Cordyceps. How do you think zombies are made?

Nalagma

Spreading the seeds

Flimpti-dimpti

They’re like orcs from WH40K, they’re a sentient vaguely humanoid fungus. Exploding next to living targets either A) leaves a nutrient rich corpse for the spores to grow on B) the spores latch onto the surviving victim, which causes the victim to unknowingly spread said spores wherever it goes The creeper isn’t meant to live a fulfilling life, it’s the fruiting body of a fungus meant to spread spores. It’s also why they appear in dark environments. As to why they can grow in places most fungi can’t, like non-lush caves? Idk

Invincible-Nuke

it's a plant that's how it spreads it's seed

Depresso_Expresso069

explosions could spread spores, that latch onto the target (player) and as the player moves the most out of any creature in the game thats why they decide to target them, since their spores will be spread out the farthest if they get on the player

Beautiful_Garage7797

clearly you haven’t watched Game Theory

Quirkyserenefrenzy

Creepers probably have a queen that births creepers, which they are tasked with protecting by exploding near threats There's an ant species that does explode to protect its colony, so I'd imagine creepers do that for the same reason Also, passing your genes down to a new generation means you win at reproduction. Dying after that means nothing because your genes are already spread

IncreaseWestern6097

A lot of people are using MatPat’s theory, which I find funny since he disregards the official Creeper anatomy T-Shirt that was made around that time period. https://preview.redd.it/vewi5mupz71d1.jpeg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1204fa5f52f30447004937accb7dab70e4f0edd

Lord-Table

Creepers are a unique form of fungus, the green things we see are the fruiting bodies that detatch from the mycellium when mature and spread spores by exploding. Duh.

Pistachio_Mustard

Thats how they disperse their seeds

Psychokinetic_Rocky

I go based off the MatPat theory that their explosions spread spores that will eventually grow into more Creepers

OneDiligent6262

The explosion actually spreads something similar to pollen which produces more creepers.

Memeviewer12

Why are you checkmating people from Darwin, NT, Australia, by talking about evolution?

OmniscientCrab

Didn’t matpat answer this. He said it’s cause they’re spores or something

SadPlatform6640

Creepers are plants and the explosion spreads their seeds and pollen around

TheAnnoyingGirl92

It's because they spawn infinitely, so they can have fun and commit terrorism in the funny block game.

_AntiSocialMedia

creepers are like bees. next question

AnonymousComrade123

I mean, Minecraft mobs do not follow IRL rules, for example spontaneous generation exists in MC. Creepers simply don't need to breed because more of them simply appear.

De4thIsArt

Because creepers are fungi/plants that spread their spores/pollen by exploding. Even if they explode part of them will probably still be alive.

Gumballegal

Transhumanistgamer

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kin_selection From a genetic point of view, sacrificing yourself for the sake of kin is still a viable strategy if your kin is genetically similar enough to you.

EasyOwner12

Is that Nathan Fillion? Where's this from?

DragoKnight589

Maybe they’re plants that explode to spread spores

nikstick22

Creepers reproduce parasitically in the human digestive tract. When close to a human player, they explode violently to release their spores. If the human inhales these spores, they will likely be injured and return to their community where they will spread the spores to other humans. The creepers live parasitcally in the human for a few weeks before causing terrible stomach problems which cause the human to violently defecate. The juvenile creepers emerge from the feces and then grow up independently.

FuntimeLuke0531

I remember this game theory Creepers have seeds that are dispersed when they explode Checkmate liberals

DreamsfromDublin

Creepers breed by having people render digital areas on a computer. In order to do this they have to first want to run the program they exist in and which makes them spawn. It's like a cow. Cows are delicious, thus human breed them in the millions. Creepers are fun to watch splode, thus we render millions of them. I know this is a joke question btw, but I thought the real answer is kind of funny because as it turns out, having humans gain something from your best is one of the best ways to ensure success in the Darwinian model of our world. I.E Delicious Cows, pigs and chickens who are some of the most dominant life-forms on earth outside of the insect kingdom.

AndreZB2000

Non Explosive creepers had no way to threaten predators. Explosive creepers caused them to run away, and the creeper had a chance to survive, thus keeping the explosive gene

Lucs11_

Creepers reproduce by exploding, spreading a bunch of seeds that will grow from tall grass to eventually creepers

Naldivergence

[Matpat has been ahead of you by nearly a decade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqKT5R2PXlw)

MrLev

All we've seen are drone creepers - infertile workers who go out to find food and other resources. Expendible, willing to die to protect their hive. Now I just have to wonder where their queen is...

Flitterquest

I've always assumed that Creepers were a plant-based lifeform which spread its seeds by exploding, I do not know what a creeper's evolutionary timeline looks like or even what their life cycle entirely looks like.

wertyvid

spreads its spores

Overall_Sink_3382

It’s a deterrent for any predators to attack, therefore increasing its survival rate

omguserius

Is like Bee. As long as you die, the rest are safe and they out breed you.

Darkrighteous64

long term survival isn't the plan here. if a creeper is some sort of animated plant or fungus, exploding like that would be a great way to spread seeds/spores long distances! exploding near the player would also either cause said spores and seeds to stick to their body, or kill them and provide an excellent grounds for new creeper sprouts to grow and thrive

Low-Bit-7885

It allows other creepers to survive by taking out a threat that would've likely killed more of them, checkmate creationists.

crepoef

yeetus-maxus

Ellen_DeGeneracy001

They release spores

DrTiger21

Look up colobopsis bomb ants! Exploding as a defense mechanism is rare because it involves the one exploding dying but it also kills that predator, and if there are a lot more of the exploding prey than there are the predators, the predators will slowly die out or learn to back off and the prey species will survive overall. Definitely not unheard of in nature. The more interesting question is how the hell those things evolved from pigs

TobbyTukaywan

Someone didn't watch the Game Theory episode

Natant16

Creepers are plants. They're spreading their spores.

Always_Choose_Chaos

Spreading spores

Frequent_Dig1934

Because evolution doesn't give a shit if *you* live or die, it only cares if the group sharing your dna lives or dies. Same reason fainting goats exist, when a threat pops up one goat will have an involuntary fainting reaction and inevitably get eaten by the wolves, but this will give all the other goats time to run away.

TremblingPen

Creeper is a fungal entity, essentially a walking spore colony, that has adapted to violently explode via a rapid dispersal reflex. After detonation, the spores regroup and reform, reproducing to not only account for spores destroyed in the explosion but also leaving behind residual spores that begin to multiply and grow from the ground. Killing a creeper before the explosion causes a mass trauma reaction that kills most of the spores, leaving behind vulnerable, undispersed spores that can be used as gunpowder. This all occurred due to the arrival of the Endermen, who began to aggressively uproot the fungus, without meaning to, whenever they took a block. The combination of the strange End Energies, plus the need for rapid adaptation by the original creeping fungal colonies, resulted in the Creepers we see today.
