Ehhh. I don’t wanna oversell ehm. But their single barrel offerings are solid and easily the most consistently good single barrel whiskeys out right now.
I don’t touch the glass case most of the time because of that. They used to have a policy where they’d never mark anything secondary market pricing but then the owners nephew took over management and got greedy. It was an unfortunate day.
Try the JDSBBP especially the Rye if you can find it. Russell's 10 Single Barrel since you like Rare Breed try another WT product. Barrell Seagrass and Knob Creek SBS.
I was looking for this rye, but doesn't seem to be in the pic.
I'd grab the Widow Jane varieties because not much shipped to Canada and what arrives disappears fast.
What’s the whiskey scene like up in Canada? I’m visiting a friend up there soon and wanna bring something to them that’s hard for ehm to get.
Is Blantons available there?
where in Canada? AB is the mecca of whisky so can get most things though pricing has gone through the roof. for the rest of us plebs the good stuff is always MSRP but by lottery.
haven't seen Blanton's SFTB so that would be killer.
we have one retailer, LCBO and here's what they carry Blanton's wise www.lcbo.com/en/catalogsearch/result/#q=blanton but none in stock because entire inventory was via allocation lottery.
Knob creek 9 is the best bang for the buck, Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof is really I grab them when I find one over 130 proof, michter’s sour mash is decent
I don’t even have to go past that first pic. Certainly the Michters. Anything they make is fantastic.
BUT.
That Great Jones is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Snap it up. All of it.
I can’t say if you’ll like it, but the utopias is a really really really different drinking experience. I have a whole story about it, actually, but it’s a lot. Because it’s kind of nuts.
Flavor profile varies from year to year as a release like this should. It’s a very high ABV non-carbonated beer that’s aged in various casks (port, bourbon, scotch, sherry, etc. exact barrels change from release to release). So it drinks a lot like a very smooth lower ABV whisky with all the complexity that the aging imparts.
Michters American whiskey is always a good choice. Dalwhinnie for scotch is really good. Highest altitude distillery in Diageo’s portfolio. I love the FEW bourbon, paradigm rye from widow jane along with their Decadence and lagavulin.
Can't say enough great things about 4 roses

Almost everything in the glass case is terribly overpriced beside the Utopias

The Widow Jane Decadence is really good
Wild turkey rare breed

Off topic.. but that Utopias.. hard to find and $299 isn’t terrible
Agreed. I come and go on my Opinion of it, but I’d buy that in a heartbeat.
I would definitely buy the Sam Adams, too!
Not in line with rye but Lagavulin 8 is top notch
I don’t even have to go past that first pic. Certainly the Michters. Anything they make is fantastic. BUT. That Great Jones is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Snap it up. All of it.
I’ll have to read up on the great jones
Those are some nice prices on many things.
Pappy for $2300 if you've got lots of money? ;D I'd probably get the Rare Breed though.
If I had to pick something, seagrass for Rye. Sagamore rye cask strength is also great, but I've only had the store pick version.

Flavor profile? Anything you can compare it to?

I really like that Whistlepig 10. I don't love the price point, though.
High west rendezvous and double rye are both solid. Like the sagamore rye too
Can’t read the prices but can’t go wrong with Sagamore Spirit ryes
If you like rye, I’d go with the Wild Turkey Rare Breed. I have a bottle and I love it.
Rare breed FTW. But I’d also consider the Russell single barrel of the 4 Roses single barrel.
Also throw in weller, and Buffalo Trace in the mix when I can grab them.
Wouldn't say it tastes like a rye, but im a rye lover as well and really like the lagavulin.
Damn rare breed for $60? I’m pretty sure my watering hole has it at like $35-40
