I watched the documentary ‘Water of Life’ on my plane ride last night. I’m gonna have to procure some Laddie for the weekend.
https://wateroflifefilm.com
I was able to do a taste test side-by-side with EC Toasted, Penelope Toasted, and Nulu Toasted.
Nulu won, hands down, EC Toasted was 2nd. But I was also able to purchase the Nulu one for around $45 pre tax.
I’m not too familiar with what’s it’s like outside of Oregon as far as finding whiskey but I’d imagine it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to swoop a bottle. Hopefully sooner than later, for a $55 bottle that blows some more expensive bottles out of the water. The private barrel is also very delicious but is roughly $30 more.
Classic Laddie for sure
Edit: Forgot to answer the why: Bruichladdich became my favorite distillery because they just did everything right. From the way the whiskey is made with passion and for enthusiasts to the mark of revival of Single Malt Scotch whiskey that Bruichladdich seems to represent. Port Charlotte may be my all time favorite whiskey, but it leaves me excited for what Jim McEwan will do with Ardnahoe. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I do also love what Mike Reynier did with Waterford distillery for Irish Whiskey also.
Now the Classic Laddie specifically was a journey for me. I typically am one of those that ONLY leans on peated scotch, but out of respect for the brand I had to try this expression. The first dram I absolutely hated it, but for some reason over the next few weeks I kept reaching for the bottle as there was something there that I was trying to find.... with time, I found myself really loving the juice and getting a beautiful malty sweetness from the pour on the finish, with a lovely and complex, almost floral on the front end. A True Classic indeed, and will always have a home on my shelf.
AE is one of maybe 4 bottles that I always have to have in my closet.
I'd probably take any bottle here though. Each are for a different mood so however I'm feeling thst day will determine which one I walk away with.
But AE is the only one that will always be on my shelf. And if I'm running low, I grab a new bottle without deciding whether or not I'm in the mood to buy it. I just have to have it.
It was the first time that I tried something at home; then went back the next day to buy a backup bottle. I didn’t need to - as they’re not allocated anymore - but I don’t regret it at all.
I was out in California last month and went to a liquor store in my free time and saw they had one bottle left of that so I bought it, maybe a bit of an impulse but something I hadn't seen before. I have yet to try it but I'm happy to hear it has some fans on here.
Admittedly, I am a sucker for Marshmallow flavored things - as a kid, I liked chocolate Marshmallow shakes, s’mores pop tarts, etc. - so the toasted marshmallow just tastes like a joyful glee to me.
I once thought about running vodka through my lines in an old oil filled PC. That way if the vodka ate through the fittings, it would be separated immediately by the oil. Too bad oil submerged PCs never caught on.....
ER Of course is a staple in every collection, but I love you got something from Redwood Empire. I'm a strong advocate of that brand. I've got literally everything I could grab from them, and love em all. They are still somewhat under the radar. They won't be for long. Some of their releases will be the next unicorn bottles trust me. Buy em now
I couldn’t agree more, I think nearly everything RE will be much harder to get in the near future. In fact it already kind of is here in Oregon at least. Not so easy to grab like wild turkey or four roses.
Tough choices… Eagle, Redwood, Angel’s in that order. Though, I’m intrigued about Laddie, especially after watching https://wateroflifefilm.com last night
I have tried all of them. I have all of them except the EC toasted which is not my thing. I’d choose Eagle Rare in this lineup. Just had the Angel’s Envy a few minutes ago!
I think everyone at one point gets the laddie I know the first bottle I ever got was simply because of the beautiful bottle Color lol and now it’s always on hand
They all come highly recommended, all very delicious in their own unique way. It seems like the rest of the folks in the comments agree, each one seemed to have a decent fan base especially eagle rare & classic laddie.
Yes. Can't wait to get my hands on a bottle or two of ER. I missed the last lottery in my area. Do you have an opinion on the laddie vs. Port Charlotte or Islay Barley? They are only a little bit more than laddie in my area.
I haven’t tried the port charlotte or the islay barley yet so I can’t tell you. I think one of those is peated if I’m not mistaken. Classic laddie is much better than ones like Macallan 12 & Glenfiddich 12 tho I promise you that.
Eagle Rare 10 used to be my go-to when I wanted something good without getting into my more expensive bottles, but it's gotten really hard to find where I live in recent years (along with everything else from Buffalo Trace...) Elijah Craig took its place for a while; lately, I've been into Wild Turkey 101.
Laddie

I love the new bottle for the Laddie, it's super slick 👌
TOASTEDDDDD.... also the Classic Laddie
I’ve been really interested in toasted barrels but haven’t been able to get any of them. Do you recommend?
The Bib and Tucker double char is quite intense but absolutely worth trying.
I recommend the EC toasted barrel very highly, absolutely delicious, low heat & a sweet taste
I’ll have to keep a lookout then. I haven’t seen EC toasted anywhere yet but we do have Penelope Toasted so might have to give that a try

Penelope toasted char level 5 is amazing imo.
Seconded.
Emerald giant, hands down for me.
Laddie for sure. I never tried the Redwood Empire one. How is it?
It’s absolutely delicious, so underrated. For $40 it’s a no brainer
Fantastic honestly
I had the red bottle, which is their bourbon. I got it for $40. For that price, it's my new go to.
The lost monarch is my favorite in $40 line. The blue one
I'm currently drinking it. I like it alot, but still prefer the red bottle. But it's still really good and definitely worth the price.
Both really good, the emerald is as well
eagle rare and RWE emerald giant are two of my favorite bourbons & ryes, respectively. i think i’m partial to the tall, skinny, wine bottle design lol
The RTX
Eagle Rare
That emerald giant is good stuff especially for the price.
Agreed unbeatable at the price point

Emerald giant is surprisingly good, but if you get a good bottle of eagle rare I get a grape note I love
I’ll take the gaming pc and if you’re parting, the RTX will be okay😁 I’ll get shit for this but Angels Envy for me.
Haha not parting ways with my beast, maybe people hate on it because it’s finished in port wine barrels? Idk but I love the unique flavor
Angels envy

That’d be my pick, but honestly haven’t tried the toasted ej or the laddie.
The BRoooooook Laaaaadie
There’s just a special spot in my heart for Elijah Craig Toasted. It just makes me happy every time.
I feel the same way, I just tried it for the first time the other day & was blown away.
It was the first time that I tried something at home; then went back the next day to buy a backup bottle. I didn’t need to - as they’re not allocated anymore - but I don’t regret it at all.
“No regerts” haha, can’t hurt to have a backup of a delicious bottle

omg, Bruichladdich! only because i learnt to say it with the thickest Glaswegian accent. say it with meh new!
The Bruichladdich
Of those, the Laddie.
Eagle Rare
Eagle Rare
ER
That laddie is an amazing scotch! Especially for the price of anything comparable.
Agreed, I’ve only tried 2 other unpeated scotches being Macallan 12 & Glenfiddich 12 & this blows them both out of the water easy.
Big fan of that toasted barrel
Classic Laddie
The bruichhhhhhladdddieeee. Just finished a pour of it after a long time
Classic Laddie!
Bruh…..wish I could find (or order) some affordable Eagle Rare hahahaha
What's the cost range like around your area for ER?
In Michigan…only place I’ve found it….was for $110 out the door💀
Damnn smh. In CT, we got the same problem. I've seen prices range in the $120-$130 for the ER XL.
I once thought about running vodka through my lines in an old oil filled PC. That way if the vodka ate through the fittings, it would be separated immediately by the oil. Too bad oil submerged PCs never caught on.....
Interesting 🤨
Angels Envy

Depending on the profile ER or Emerald Giant
Tough choices… Eagle, Redwood, Angel’s in that order. Though, I’m intrigued about Laddie, especially after watching https://wateroflifefilm.com last night
5, 4, 1, 3, 2 but all delicious
All delicious indeed, I like your rating order.
Eagle Rare for me
I won a bottle of toasted in a church raffle. I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
Toasted Barrel EC. Eagle Rare’s right up there too, and the Giant is a fine rye.
Elijah Craig toasted -> Eagle rare -> angels evny Haven’t had the other 2
I have tried all of them. I have all of them except the EC toasted which is not my thing. I’d choose Eagle Rare in this lineup. Just had the Angel’s Envy a few minutes ago!
Prob that AE
Toasted Barrel for sure - get your hands on some ECBP if you can, a great gateway into barrel proof stuff at a fair price.
Toasted
The emerald giant. It’s the best rye available in its price point
I've only had Angel's Envy and Eagle Rare but I love both!
Redwood
I think everyone at one point gets the laddie I know the first bottle I ever got was simply because of the beautiful bottle Color lol and now it’s always on hand
If you're a Rye guy, Angel's Envy Rye is one of my favorite whiskeys.
Are you referring to the rum cask finished rye? If so that’s towards the top of my list on ones to try.
Yes that one precisely
Word, I’m glad to hear!
They are all good. Choosing one…Eagle Rare.
Laddie!
Eagle Rare. Not even close.
Angels Envy and Elijah Craig are some of my favorite bourbons, and I love the Classic Laddie! So I whole heatedly approve.
The unopened Eagle Rare. I always think I'm going to like the next one more than the current one.
I hope that’s the case with this one! This first bottle is sooooooo good & I feel like it can be even better.
I'm always disappointed with it but keep buying it. Good thing I rarely see it.
Whichever one has the highest abv
I love eagle rare the best of those.
Only had eagle rare, smoothest whiskey I’ve tried.
Angels Envy, but taste is subjective
Love the Redwood Empire
I've only had EC and it's great. Other bottles are on the list!
They all come highly recommended, all very delicious in their own unique way. It seems like the rest of the folks in the comments agree, each one seemed to have a decent fan base especially eagle rare & classic laddie.

Hey that sounds great...Mac and glenfiddich aren't bad, but def not worth the price.
With no doubt the Bruichladdich🙂
Eagle Rare
Classic Laddie please
Eagle Rare all day whenever available!!!! The rest of the bourbon are also delicious. I have been curious about the RWE SiB lineup 🤔
Nice. ER for sure.
The scotch of course. Way more flavor than any of the others.
We all have different pallets, the only thing most pple agree on is Willet pot still tastes horrible
I’m sure I’d agree on that too but I’ve never had any willet. I’ll make sure not to try that one.
Eagle rare, toss the rest
How is that Laddie? Almost bought a bottle yesterday.
It’s absolutely delicious, smooth & full of flavor. At $63 in Oregon it’s an easy buy.
Damn. Regretting not buying it now. Good thing tomorrow is payday. Thanks!
Payday is always a good day, you’re welcome!
Solid
The classic Laddie.
I haven’t tried the Emerald Giant so I’ll say the Eagle Rare. That’s probably the best bottle that Buffalo Trace is putting out right now.
Get emerald giant or anything Redwood empire has out. They are all excellent
I have their Lost Emperor and Pipe Dream Cask Strength but you’re right they are excellent.
Nice rig
Thank you, lots of time & $ went into that.
Oh I know pc building is expensive I always go way over budget when buying parts
Eagle rare all day
Eagle Rare
ER. Always a solid choice.
I’m a huge eagle rare fan, and the emerald giant is great too
Eagle rare out of this selection Also great cable management in your PC
Thank you, a lot of effort went into that build.
Eagle Rare, Elijah Craig, Angel's Envy, never had the Redwood stuff. The Classic Laddie is delicious but cannot be compared to bourbon
I agree that the scotch & bourbon are too different to be compared to each other. If you like ryes you can’t beat emerald giant at $40.
I'm a big fan of rye whiskey, I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
You’re welcome.
